What an incredible point from both men to end the match - but it's Tsonga who wins 25-23 in the 3rd set (erm, 6'3, 3'6, 25'23).
Smiles at the net from both of them and a good hug; very sporting.

Now I can finally have a shower and eat lunch. It's almost 2 p.m. :shamed:

Not disappointed Milos lost coz he'd have no gas left for tomorrow and now he can rest up for his hometown tournament next week.

Phew! That was a gripping match!

That was the longest ever Olympic tennis match at 3hrs 56mins.
Nadal v Djokovic (Madrid 09) is longest ever 3 set match (4hrs 3mins).

Feliciano Lopez is through after beating Juan Monaco 64 64 - and plays marathon man Tsonga next

Djokovic was awesome today and just blew Andy Roddick away. His serving was amazing and gave him lots of free points so I am very afraid for Andy!!!

Managed to see Baggy and Gasquet as well and really glad that Baggy won. I cheered him on before Andy started. Lots of photos for my scrapbook. Jamie was in thencrowd behind me and Judy came to talk to someone near me so added their photos to my stash. Pus got shots of Kim, Jez, John Isner, Janko T and Kei Nishikori - great day

Centre Court
They've just opened the roof ahead of the Djokovic v Hewitt match.
Might have been tempting fate .....

Neil Harman ‏@NeilHarmanTimes (https://twitter.com/NeilHarmanTimes) Suddenly gone very cold and breezy on Centre Court. Feels like it's going to rain at any minute

Court One
Federer got off to a good start against Istomin; won his first service game, broke the Uzbek and then held for 3'0. However, Istomin then held for 1-3, broke Feddykins and then held again so it's all back on serve and 4-4.

Others in progress
Del Potro leads simon 4-1
Almagro leads Darcis 4-2

RAIN DELAY

ITF Olympic Tennis ‏@OlympicsTennis (https://twitter.com/OlympicsTennis) The rain is coming down again @Wimbledon (https://twitter.com/Wimbledon) and play is suspended! But it's very light and the covers aren't coming on just yet

Now the covers are coming on as the rain gets heavier... shame!

Cue music over tannoy to keep fans entertained on Court 1... 'Paradise' by Coldplay... not feeling exactly like Paradise right now!

01-08-2012, 19:59
Unbelievable! They've just moved the Nishikori v Ferrer match onto Centre Court.
Score is 5-4 to Nishi in the final set with Ferru about to serve to stay in the match.
It might all have been over in 1 or 3 games!!!

I think the move will favour Ferrer tbh.

Linda
01-08-2012, 20:00
This will be really tough for David to come out and serve to stay in the match. If they were going to do that, they should have done it at 4-4.

The tiny crowd moved into Centre from Court 14 are managing a Mexican wave.

And here come the players.

Sallydaisy
01-08-2012, 20:15
I agree - think it's very difficult for both guys tbh. Has Ferrer played on Centre Court before?
I doubt Nishikori has so it'll be a whole new ball game for him!

They've been off court now for nearly half an hour so at least they get a 2minute warm-up.

Have to say I think it may have been difficult for them playing on Court 14 with all the noise coming from Court 18 where the French v India match was being cheered very loudly!

Linda
01-08-2012, 20:16
Yes, it was obviously difficult for them - but the doubles match finished before they were moved.

Sallydaisy
01-08-2012, 20:25
Well, that's that. Nishikori knocks out 4th seed Ferrer 6'0, 3'6, 6'4.

All that kerfuffle to play one game; they could have finished on Court 14 in the time it took the Referee to come on and announce that play was being moved.

See note in Olympic Tickets thread - if you get into the Resales queue earlyish you might be able to buy a Resale. Today there were more Court 1 tix available than Centre (apparently they were being sold from 10.30 onwards). It's probably because a lot of peeps haven't been to Wimbledon before so don't know the Resale booth is there .............

Apparently they prefer to sell Resales to people with Ground Passes rather than those who have already got tickets to a showcourt. They encourage swaps according to Xenon.

Who are you guys hoping for in the semis? Djokovic seems a bit out of it lately, so I'm not sure who would be the tougher opponent. I'm confident Andy will reach the final either way though. Just a feeling that I have, I don't know. I'm usually rather pessimistic.

Djoko couldn't have been in Fed's half RL - they are seeded 1 and 2.

02-08-2012, 21:01
I thought the scheduling was pretty stupid too. Didn't manage to get on to Court 1 for Andy's match so had to content myself with listening to it from just outside. However, I did managed to get on for the tie-break which decided the mixed doubles match and Laura looked over the moon.

02-08-2012, 23:47
Did you get on through the resales themass? I find it very weird that initially they advertised court 1 as having 1 singles men's semi final which for the price of court 1 was amazing! I guess people bought court 1 tickets based on that but today found out that both semi finals will be played on centre court and are pretty upset about that!

I was lucky enough to get centre court tickets (figured if Andy won his semi they would put him on centre) so will be cheering Andy on very loudly! The only downside is that I would love to see Andy and Laura play on court 1 but have no idea how I would be able get on

I wonder if they did the scheudling like that in case there is a rain delay...

Jonathan Overend ‏@5livetennis

LOCOG statement explains today's tennis schedule. Roof a key factor as so many of the singles players are still involved in doubles.. /cont

... And the doubs events are one day behind so the priority is to finish the tournament on schedule. (which won't placate the Ct1 crowd)

Statement on today's schedule - we are a day behind in doubles, 3 sfs on Centre with roof helps and 4 players still in singles/doubles

david1610
03-08-2012, 15:19
As long as Laura serves well, the mixed doubles might be a useful warm down for Andy after his match.
I see no harm in another twenty thirty games in this match as it mentally wears down the winner for the final. At some point they will have to move one of the centre court matches over to no. 1 and presumably not Andy's as the crowd would go crazy.
Mixed doubles is unlikely to go much over an hour and a half even with a CTB. And playing in front of that GB crowd!

Edit just went and reminded myself of the court 2 schedule. There are two mixed doubles matches which cannot be played as at least one competitor is either playing singles or is about to. That will become three with Andy's match. Put simply, they still have two singles matches on one court which is still finishing a third singles match.
Logistically one of those singles matches will have to be moved, or the mixed called off, or the centre court roof used and all players told to expect a late night!
Or.... mixed tomorrow.

A couple of extracts:

17-16, Raonic serving. A baby cries, again. I presume it was conceived and delivered during the third set.

18-18, Tsonga serving. Somewhere, Mahut and Isner sneer, and then try to hide a bone-deep shudder, from the depths of their souls.

19-19, Tsonga serving. London Bridge has now actually fallen down.

There are some interesting tweets from ‏@WimboGroundsman with pictures of them working on the courts.

Fascinating - there goes the grass! I think they've missed a trick there, though. Surely there are fans who would be crazy enough to pay for a bit of turf. Well, from centre court, anyway.

Good idea! Maybe they could mount it or press it somehow and put it in a frame and Andy could sign it!!

They probably haven't started on Centre Court yet. Still time to tell em.

Doesn't look as though we're being offered the chance to buy chunks of Centre Court ...

Wimbledon ‏@Wimbledon (https://twitter.com/Wimbledon) Centre Court at Wimbledon is now officially without grass. http://on.fb.me/PQJzNM (http://t.co/bUn4vc1U)
