If Milos serves well, will be tough for Blake unless he serves well and wins in straights e.g. three tiebreakers!
I didn't expect Blake to get this far, so it's a bonus that he has, really.

Yay Milos!!! :yahoo: That was much easier than I anticipated. I watched the match and he served very well except for one game. James really seemed flummoxed.
Anyway, really happy he's through to the fourth round and that I'll get to see him play Andy unlike in Toronto where I was denied.
Really disappointed that Kim and Bob lost the mixed dubs second round. :crying: Was hoping they'd win the whole thing.
Keep it going, Andy and Laura! I remember reading somewhere that Judy Murray, after she had taken over the girls' team, had predicted a break through for Laura very soon. Love her or hate her (Being Andy's mum, I always defend her and think she gets a bit too much stick sometimes as does Andy),no one can deny she knows tennis and recognises talent when she sees it.

Fleming/Hutchins around 6pm UK time on Court 17.
Luke Bambridge plays his R1 Junior Boys match at 4pm UK time.

Djokovic looked very impressive against Benny. 4 set win for Ferrer, first two sets were a enthralling. Good tournament from Hewitt, and did well to give Ferrer a match after two previous 5 set marathons.
Tipsarovic in control in his match and Gasquet currently 4-4 against Stevie Johnson!
Isner and Kohlschreiber just starting their fifth set as I type!

Kohli causes the upset putting out Isner 6-4 in the 5th in a late night marathon! Ferrer may well benefit from this as Isner was in his quarter.
Shame for Isner in front of his home crowd. Sincerely hope Andy's match doesn't go this long otherwise I will miss the end!! Have to leave for work at 7 at the latest ....

03-09-2012, 15:09
There was well over an hour rain delay so that's why Isner's match started so late. Plus Shazza's went to three. Disappointed Petrova didn't beat her as she was up 2-0 in the third before the rain started.
I watched till the bitter end (2:30 a.m.) and it was really interesting that Kohli mentioned in his post match interview they didn't need any tiebreaks. He's very articulate considering English is his second language. Anyway he was certainly playing very well indeed. Impressive.

From Andy's perspective, he just needs to concentrate on beating Raonic, and ideally avoid a long, drawn out, late-night battle.

There's been a change to the Order of Play as a result of the rain delays (and forecast more rain) which has disrupted play at Flushing Meadows already today. Junior matches are being played indoors. As last night the USO officials are rearranging some matches to ensure all of R4 gets done today/tonight. They seem to have learned a lesson since last year when the scheduling caused difficult delays for some players. Now all they need to do is sort out court covers ........ the rain is backed up to New Jersey apparently.
Djokovic v Wawrinka have been moved to Armstrong Court and will play directly after Ferrer/Gasquet.
Tipsy v Kohli have been moved to Grandstand and will play after the Mens Doubles.
Roddick v Del Potro will follow on after Bartoli v Sharapova on Arthur Ashe Court.
Per the journos:
Jonathan Overend @5livetennis (https://twitter.com/5livetennis) Djokovic v Wawrinka moved to Armstrong as US TV don't want to risk a delay to the Roddick night match.

Much rain already in New York - here's the views of Neil Harman and Brad Gilbert on twitter

Now this!!!!!! http://pic.twitter.com/LV9tMNkz (http://t.co/LV9tMNkz)
Brad Gilbert @bgtennisnation (https://twitter.com/bgtennisnation)
Just took a walk outside and weather looks very dodgy strange very warm humid and dark grey, going to be one of those days again on and off. The latest from the weatherman 80% chance of rain but a little better in the eve only 30 % seems like the normal now for 2nd week.
What is amazing with just 1 rain day in the 2nd week because of 1st rd over 3days makes 0 sence and semi and final back to back. They need zero rain in the 2nd week to make this currant foremat work, also need to go 1st rd over 2days and play semi on friday ?
And this (with my approximate translation below)
Carole Bouchard @carole_bouchard (https://twitter.com/carole_bouchard) Niveau temps ici ce matin c'est comme passer dans un sauna avec pluie intégrée... Ô joie... Combien d'heures de jeu aujourd'hui ?...

Scores/courts update:
ARTHUR ASHE
The ladies are now 1 set all on Ashe court; Roddick v DelPo to finish their 4th Round match after that. Then in theory it's the first 1/4 Final of the top half = Andy Murray v Marin Cilic.
LOUIS ARMSTRONG
Errani has just beaten Vinci so Nole can get back on court v Stan to finish their R4 match.
GRANDSTAND
Tipsy takes the first set 6'4 from Kohli and it's 3-3 in the 2nd set in their R4 match.
There is only one other match currently scheduled for this court today - a mens doubles
I suspect the US Open officials might review the OOP ... there's rumours Andy's match might be moved. Wouldn't be surprised if he's put onto Armstrong and the Mens Dubs moved to Grandstand.
Wouldn't it be better to leave Andy where he is and keep Serena v Ana on Ashe BUT move Fedex v Berdy to Louis Armstrong??? Can't see them moving Serena that's for sure.

Nole has only just finished his R4 match and has to play his Quarter Final tomorrow ... Federer is still scheduled to play AFTER Roddick/Del Potro which could go to 4 sets AND after Serena v Ana.
What's jammy about that?
Andy is still going to be well ahead of them in terms of time advantage.
ah good - just home and saw the score on AA and figured I might be asleep by the time Andy begins. Not sure how long I can stay awake for, but at least I have a fighting chance!

I'm scared too. Probably more scared than him meeting Fed. I'm not sure where Berdy was if he thought the crowd was great. They did seem to come around a little bit at the end I guess. It's Andy's turn for a great match though. He seems to be palying one good, one bad etc. He better get out of that pattern after the semi though.
Nite everyone, still early here though, 8:40pm better go back to work. Payroll conversions - hate them!!!!

Certainly surprised to hear Berdy won, he must have been in form even if Fed wasn't quite at his best. Whilst Thomas has been a tricky opponent for Andy in the past still think it's an easier match up in a slam semi. Nonetheless there is a bit more pressure and Andy will certainly need to step it up! Sure he won't take Berdych lightly.
Berdych had to say nice things about the crowd, after all he'll want some support in the semi-final!
Wow well done Berdy. I hate that the crowds always support Fed. They did that to Andy too in the Wimby final. I'm glad SmugFed lost. Definately not a fan. Andy's been beaten by Berdy a few times, so will know to beware. He'll have to play well. I think he'll be very wary of him.

Juan Martin Del Potro (ARG)[7] v Novak Djokovic (SRB)[2]
Louis Armstrong Stadium
11:00 start - Women's Doubles Semifinals
Llagostera Vives/Martinez Sanchez(ESP)[8] v Errani/Vinci(ITA)[2]
Followed by - Men's Doubles Semifinals
Granollers/M.Lopez(ESP)[6] v Paes (IND)[5]/Stepanek(CZE)[5]
Followed by - Men's Doubles Semifinals
Qureshi (PAK)[9]/Rojer(NED)[9] v Bryan/Bryan (USA)[2]
Followed by - Women's Doubles Semifinals
Hsieh (TPE)/Medina Garrigues(ESP)[16] v Hlavackova/Hradecka(CZE)[3]
Although I'm usually more than happy for anyone to beat Fed - I'm really anxious about Andy meeting Berdy. There will be more pressure on Andy because he is the higher ranked player and so expected to win. Having said that, I have every faith in our boy and, hopefully, the crowd will be on his side.
Its ridiculous they have put an exhibiiton match on before the second quarter final. If it rains it would mean the winner would have to play 3 days in a row.
Was really surprised and really happy to hear that Fed lost ..... then I started thinking what everyone else has already said - Andy has more pressure than v Fed and h2h not great either BUT he can do it people!!

Certainly was a guutsy win for Ferrer but a marathon match and think he will have his work cut out with Nole. Looks like Djokovic was on superb form last night.
The Tipsy / Daveed match was epic, but however good it was, I just couldn't stay up for the final set. 4 and a half hours sleep the night before then a full day at work yesterday meant I had to get a decent few hours sleep as work again today. Saving myself for Saturday .... Have to be out early Sunday morning too so have to prioritse.
Shame for Tipsy but I like them both. Nole is kinds slipping under the radar but palying awesome tennis by the sound of things. Who the heck is going to stop him?? Our ANDY, that's who!! :cheer::cheer:
Think Daveed will put up a good fight on Saturday. Fortunately he's got some recovery time. Potty is nowhere near the athlete that Ferrer is IMHO. Plus Nole and Potty just seemed to be bashing the ball back to each other as hard as they could - not many (any?) of the angled shots that Ferrer can produce. Actually the level of tennis in the quarters has been so high it terrifies me. Wondering how Andy can get past any of them without his AA game. Does anyone have a spare set of fingernails I could borrow please?

You're probably right! Must keep things in proportion........but it's very difficult.
I'm so pleased that Ferrer won yesterday. :) He's such a fighter - to come back from 2 sets to 1 down, and then 1-4 down in the final set is fantastic. Tipsy played some of his best tennis ever but Ferrer still found a way to win.
Not surprised that Delpo didn't win yesterday, though I'd have liked him to have. He just doesn't have the variety to trouble Novak consistently, and in the baseline rallies Novak has the advantage of much better defense.
what the hell is that abomination of a suit that bouncy was wearing on Sky? Times hard, Andrew?

OOP (http://www.usopen.org/en_US/scores/schedule/index.html) for "Super" Saturday, 7th September 2012.
(it might not be so super this year - there are thunderstorms forecast from 4pm onwards!)
WEATHER NOTE
There are scattered, but heavy thunderstorms, forecast for NYC from 16.00 thru' the evening.
It's going to be a bit windy (12/14 mph) between 11.00 and 13.00.
From 13.00 thru' to 22.00 the wind picks up to 18/20mph bringing the storms.
As a result of that forecast the USO schedulers are starting play at 11.00 today instead of 12noon (per the original ticketed time) to try and get both Men's Semi's played. They have to play Andy/Tomas first because those 2 have had an extra day 'off' and it wouldn't be fair to Nole or David to have put them on as the first match.
There is a distinct risk, if Andy/Tomas go to 4 or 5 sets, that the 2nd Semi will be subject to rain delays so it's an advantage in many ways for Andy to be playing first today and get his match done. Despite his apparent dislike for early starts he dislikes windy conditions even more!
The Ladies Final is also likely to suffer delays as it's the night match and there's a higher risk of steady rain + the wind which will make conditions difficult.

It would definitely show favouritism to Djoko if they moved Andy's match to AA. The more logical scenario would be to move Djoko's match if the first match isn't finished by the time they are due to start. In view of what happened with the Cilic match, Andy would certainly have just cause for complaint if he was switched. I sincerely hope Lendl is already enroute to the tour director's office to stop any such ideas before they start!

He's going to give Nole a lot of trouble if the start of this match is an indicator. He runs everything down (which DelPo didn't do) and is likely to play until he drops to try and reach the Final.
Nole leads their H2H (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Players/Head-To-Head.aspx?pId=D643&oId=F401) 8-5 and on hard courts it's 7-2 to the Serb. So, he can, and has, beaten David and 3 of the wins have been at Grand Slams - notably in the Semi's at the USO in 2007 and 2 QF wins at the AO.
Apparently the wind has died down - nothing is flying around and it's a lot calmer on the court. That might be the calm before the storm ...
Simply for this match i don't mind who wins but i'd prefer Andy to beat Nole in the final

This Semi-Final will finish tomorrow. Have to think this stoppage will benefit Nole because not only can he regroup but the weather tomorrow will be much more to his liking.
The Mens Final will almost certainly be on Monday.
It gives Andy an extra day to recover ...
What a break for Djoko - hard lines on Daveed though.
Play is stopped. They're going to evacuate the entire place.

Tornado warning....play suspended with Ferru at 5-2.

I just looked at the score and thought I might watch a few games and see if Daveed could get the set. Oh well, let's hope the weather improves. Presume they'll finish the sf before the ladies final.

Am happy the final is going to be on Monday for personal and selfish reasons, but how scary is it really to be evacuated?!

I'm so happy it's going to be a Monday final because my daughter has her b-day party tomorrow evening and I was really afraid I'd miss seeing it live. So that's good for me. :yahoo: Too bad they didn't let Ferru serve the first set out, though.
Pity they couldn't at least have finished the first set

I want daveed to win as I think it would be easier for Andy to win against him than Nole - although either way a tough match for sure.
monday final then ???? booo I will miss it :crying:
He's got 4 of 'em? Explain?imo someone who has never won more than a 500 dosnt deserve to win a slam, saying that if he wins 7 matches this week he obviously dose
Really fed up as I'll be away on Monday

They were showing everyone leaving the stadium via all the stairways within 3mins of the players leaving the court. They're serious alright. A tornado isn't definite but the thunderstorms/lightning are and they need half an hour to get everyone out and be sure they're safely away.
Really fed up as I'll be away on Monday :sad:sorry for ya i know how you feel i was gutted thinking i was missing it tomorrow

Hope Smitty8 doesn't mind me sharing these tweets of hers ........
I very much agree with the sentiments in her first one - they should have played Djokovic/Ferrer on Armstrong or even Grandstand!!!
The tournament director just said on TV that they hadn't even talked about
moving the other match to Armstrong. Um, what? IDIOTS!
People were trampled trying to get out of a county fair here,
also one person hurt when a stage collapsed, tents blown away

Well I think he does deserve it. He's been to GS semis before. Next step up. After his heroic battle vs Tipsy t'other day I do think he deserves it. But not NEARLY as much as oor Andy!
They are showing a programme about Rafa now :)

It's all immaterial whether Nole or Ferru deserves to win more. Neither of them are winning it! It's Andy's!
He's got 4 of 'em? Explain?btw he has 5 :rolling:
