View Full Version : US OPEN 2012, R1: Bye bye "Bogie"; Muzzah meanders to the win 6'2, 6'4, 6'1
It is a little bit of a weird match, this. Every time I think Andy's got himself into cruise mode, he drops his serve and lets Bogomolov back in.
Hang on, it looks like Boggy's not feeling too good again. the Doctor's on court.

He is getting frustrated with himself as he knows he should be 3-0 up as he was really opening out and showing his class in the first two games of the set.
Just needs to focus enough and get another break and then consolidate it, then he will be able to have a bit of daylight which should hopefully relax him.

Andy holds for 4-1.

Not allowed to as it's a conditioning issue.
Hi all, just logged on. Sounds as though our man is doing fine? Apart from cramp?

Well, he's winning. Bits of his game are working OK, but the rest has been a bit poor. Probably just a bit of rustiness...

Nervous start...typical for Andy. Not his best match but he won and quite easily by the score! Wasn't that easy but he's into the 2nd round. Well done Andy!!:clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:

Well done on the win. :)
Part of me feels that Andy knows he could break out as no. 1 in the next few months and win that 1st GS, but he has to remember that even when playing somebody way below him in terms of tennis ability, he has to stay focused and literally "on the ball" for enough points to win the matches comfortably.
So glad he did not have to play an extra set today. That was enough of a tough match to play himself into the tourney!
The first thing Andy should do is move out of that "quiet" hotel, it's having the wrong effect. ;)
Job done with hopefully no ill effects. Looks like Dodig next who is breezing through against the Japanese qualifier.
I'm glad this is over.
So am I! Not what I expected ..... where did he leave his serve? Surely he can't play as poor as that again? Who will he play next and when?
great on court interview , just love him

Ivan Dodig from Croatia.
Glad he's got that one done and dusted; judging by forum comments it wasn't a great match, but the score looks good! Hope he feels more at home next round. Play like you're playing for Gold Andy!!

Andy certainly struggled at times and it wasn't always comfortable viewing but he won the important points and at the end of the day it was a straight sets win. That's the opener out of the way and surely he will step it up as the tournament progresses, certainly needs to improve the serve. However, first rounds can be a bit tricky and Andy showed us some sublime stuff even if sparingly, well done! Bit concerned when he cramped up, but looks like nothing to worry about.
Well done Andy :yahoo:
So glad he's got that nervy first match under his belt. Yay, in straight sets. Onwards and upwards.
Well that was a bit of a weird match where the stats and scoreline are a bit misleading. Was quite the murraycoaster but Andy won ugly! Well done Andy! First match out of yje way! :cheer:

Did not want to mention it during the match in case it jinxed him, but for the record (and future years' nerves) Andy has never lost a first round USO match.
Wasn't able to watch this match but well done Andy.
Sounded like a murraycoaster in places but hopefully that's his 'bad' match out of the way.

I didn't see it either. What did he say?
Just said that it was a tough start , was very humid , when asked what he would give himself on that performance out of 10 , he said 6
and that it was just a hamstring cramp

Here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U__oM6XhHuQ) is his press conference from after the match. :)
Dare I say "normal" service (for Andy!) has been resumed. All the Murray familiar idiosyncracies we hadn't seen for a bit (irritable, clutching at body parts, erratic serving etc etc). Frustrating watching because, as ever, the talent and the class shines through showing us just how much better he is than most players in the draw even when playing the way he did yesterday.
Decent performance by Andy, not that much anxiety here! He absolutely destroyed Bogo's serve so the outcome was never in doubt. Had Murray served 60+% as he has been doing recently I think the score would have been embarrassing. He made a lot of errors at times but for most of the match Andy was really hitting the ball pretty well. Roll on round 2!

I wish at those Press conferences they would turn the sound up when the questions are being asked. Half the time I can't hear them properly and I'm guessing what the question was when he is answering.
me too, madeleine, but cazza has kindly downloaded the transcript, in the 'off court' section
I find it interesting that, playing in very difficult conditions, Andy lost only 7 games in his match but is criticised for erratic play while, in much easier conditions, Fed lost 9 games to a player who has been out of form all season, dropped serve - which he didn't throughout the Cincy tournament - and is applauded. Double standards perhaps?

Yeah... it's really weird. Federer was hardly on either. He is Federer though, that's what he's got going for him. We know how it works, the haters/critics come out of their holes as soon as they find even the slightest thing to criticize. Andy always has to work much harder to get just a little bit of praise/appreciation. When Federer wins while being off they call it cruising and with Andy they call it battling.

An ok match with the right result from what I saw of it. Well done Andy!
I'm still confident of the win, but he's got a few things to work on - including that first serve.
As a former forum regular said on Twitter last night... if the aim of the game is taking positives from last night's game, Andy has an embarrassment of riches to choose from!

Double standards perhaps?I noticed that also. And not one word of criticism from Cowan and Shiras at some of his wildly inaccurate shots. Made me very annoyed!!
Well done Andy. :swingin:

It was only the fact that Andy's serve got broken many times that his play was questioned. He lost just 7 games and three of them were on his own serve - when did that last happen ? His all-round play was as good as it had to be with some exquisite shots.
I'll take a 3-set 2, 4 and 1 anyday ! Well done Andy

Me too! In fact, we were all very happy with a 3-set 2, 1 and 4 win on 5th August when he beat Feddykins for the Olympic Gold Medal. But, despite that almost identical scoreline the match against Bogie seemed so much more of a struggle for him when compared to the dominance he showed at Wimbledon that day against the World#1.
Glad he got through it though, and in humid/windy conditions which don't always suit him.

Just a word about the humidity for those who've never experienced it in NY. It is absolutely awful. Not only are you soaking wet but occasionally you think you can't breathe and you feel lethargic. I noticed even Mr perfect was sweating profusely in his night game and it is far worse in the heat of the day wind or no wind. Andy and his team will be prepared for tonight...just hope his brilliant service game comes to the fore as his other shots were fantastic. Is it only his loyal fans who see this?
Seemingly, Supergran. I appears that all Andy's minor mistakes are noted while his wondrous shots go unnoticed - of course, with Fed the reverse is the case! C'est la vie!!!
