Andy's campaign to win the US Open title begins with a R1 match against Bogomolov.

Andy leads their H2H (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Players/Head-To-Head.aspx?pId=MC10&oId=B842)2-1 with all their matches taking place last year and all on hard court.

Andy lost to the 29yr old Russian in the Miami Masters and whilst he was still trying to deal with his loss in the Final of the AO. Murray redressed the balance in style later in the year at the Cincy Masters and Tokyo ATP250. Prior to those matches they had met in 2005 in the Binghamption Challenger where Andy prevailed in 2 sets.

"Bogie" has yet to win an ATP tour title (Andy has 23) and is currently ranked #73 but reached a career high #33 this time last year. This year he's not played so well and notched up mostly R1 losses with only 1 QF (Sydney) and a smattering of R2 appearances.

The match will be played on Mon/Tue/Wed but we don't yet know which.

erm, according to Neil Harman Andy could play any day Mon-Wed:

Neil Harman ‏@NeilHarmanTimes (https://twitter.com/NeilHarmanTimes) @Tang_Viola (https://twitter.com/Tang_Viola) He could play on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday given they spread the first round over three days here (lunacy)

When we went in 2010 I had booked ground passes for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd day. Andy practised on the second day which I watched and his team were annoyed he wasn't playing that day. He was then scheduled to play on Ashe on Wednesday after 1 and it was boiling hot. We were at his first round match on Wednesday 1st September and I agree with Neil Harman...lunacy! If you go in the first week you need to book for the first three days to ensure you see Andy play. We bought expensive seats for Ashe once Judy told us when he was playing but cheap seats were available during the first week.

I have forked out £4.99 for a month's subscription to Eurosport Player. They better show Andy's matches!

I paid for a month's subscription to Eurosport Player last time, but they didn't show any of the matches I was interested in. They mainly showed the women's matches and just some of the lower ranked men, none of the top 10 players. So I complained and they gave me my money back.

Really? Do you mean the USO last year? The AO coverage was ok, I think, though I remember complaining that at least one of Andy's matches wasn't available to watch later. I'll certainly be complaining if they don't show the top matches, their email inviting me to subscribe again shows Roger, Andy, Novak, Shriekapova and Serena. I'll report 'em to the Advertising Standards Authority if they don't show them!

SamP

I don't know about you, but I can remember very little about last years US Open. I must have been doing something.

Was the Haase match last year? If so, thats all i've got.

Oh, and he lost to Rafa and got upset. *SIGH*

This is the first time i'll be able to watch the US Open properly, as we now have Sky at home. (thank you thank you thank you).

But despite this being my least viewed Slam, Its still full of alot of painful memories. It's often said that it's Andy's best chance at a major, but honestly, I would only put it as Andy's third best chance. He's often failed physically at this event, defeats to Cilic and the final in 08 spring to mind first, and after a particularly exhausting year, I'd love to get carried away with Andys chances, but I can't just yet.

The Bogomolov match on paper throws up alot of problems, but I think i'm right in thinking that he's had a pretty poor year, so I believe Andy will win handsomely today.

Finally, I wouldn't read too much into his draw, its tough, but I think he rises to the occasion against the best, and should he stay fit, playing tough players in each round will help him to go through the gears and I believe he has every chance to win this thing. I just hope his body lets him.

Eurosport on the TV certainly can't show Andy matches live as Sky have the rights for that. Different for the Australian as sky don't cover that.

So glad we're not that proud at Wimbledon and as soon as there is a shower they go on, no matter what the court.

I had a friend who worked at the AELTC and he said (pre-roof days) that rain on the first and second days were a total MARE for them because you had full rounds of people in the men and the women to get through, and they would just put them anywhere they could just to get through the R1 matches so that precisely half the fields would be gone. I am not sure about AO but they seem to do the same at RG as well just to get through the rounds.
But just reading the tone of some of Neil Harman's tweets over the build up, the USO seems to be a complete law to itself, and I think, because of their complete dependence on the TV schedules - I suspect you may be sadly right.

Of course. Just to clarify, a 128 tournament has 64 matches in R1, 32 R2, 16 R3, 8 R4, 4 QF 2 SFs 1 F which is a total of 127 matches (128-1 or, more formally, 27-1). That makes 254 for Men and Women. So 128 singles matches to get through in the first round, never mind doubles and other matches! Put simply, the first round days are where you need all the courts for as long as possible on each day given all these matches.

Andy has held serve - just needs to break back now.
