Ive been wondering something ..... did Mr. Federer send congratulations to Andy on his uso win ?? I saw some other players had . Probably a silly question tho

I imagine Roger will probably say "He did well, but was fortunate not to have to play me..." ;)

As to Novak, yeah, I wasn't happy about the medical time out either, and I thought the crowd were right to boo him, but at the end of the day it played into Andy's hands by getting the crowd behind him! ;) I think he's someone who will do anything within the rules that allows him to win (such as timing his medical time-out so that it makes Andy think longer about having to serve for the match), he's a fierce competitor the same as Andy is. At the same time, I like the fact that he is always courteous and respectful towards opponents when he loses to them, and acknowledges their good play. So it's swings and roundabouts, but overall my opinions of Djokovic after the final are positive ones rather than negative. :)

And as to Annabelle Croft, she's not someone I particularly rate in any capacity, although I must admit I've never felt she was especially "anti-Andy", just trying to give an unbiased opinion. Who knows, maybe she's fiercely pro-Andy and tries to criticise him so as not to appear biased in his favour!! It must be very hard for commentators like Mark Petchey to remain neutral when commentating on Andy's matches, given that to me, at times, it's very, very obvious that Mark is pro-Andy and wants Andy to win... :)

Sorry for the long post, I really need to post more often so I don't always have so much to say in one go!! :D

Take care... :)

Would like to add my congrats to Andy, was in the middle of Norwegian fjords so no sat. signal. Oh joy of joys when we found out he had won. Jumping about our cabin with excitement and pride in his achievement. Going to take me some time to catch up on all the newspaper reports and hopefully watch the match on utube. Terrific ending to a great holiday.

When Andy Murray won his first grand slam, I was sitting in the car with my dad, on a hillside in the Scottish highlands, outside our holiday chalet listening to 5live at 2am. It wasn't quite how I imagined it, but there you have it. We managed to catch the first two sets or so in the pub, before they decided they were closing at midnight. Not quite sure where they loyalties lied that evening, but they were questionable.

I've just got home, and feel the need now to tell you all about my thoughts on this most magnificent of triumphs.

I'm not sure Its fully sunk in with me, the magnitude of it. When Overend was choking up on the radio at Game Set & Match, all I could muster was a smile and sigh. In a way, it felt so normal, so conventional that Andy's talents could led him to a title of this magnitude. I'm absolutely delighted for him, his team and his family. We drove into Dunblane on the way home today, stopped and got our photo taken next to 'that postbox' and had a nice wander round the village. It was great to see the photos and congratulatory messages in the shop windows. It was surprisingly quite, perhaps just the calm before tomorrows storm.

Perhaps in a few weeks i'll be able to write more about this result, but right now, all I feel is contentment.

He did it.

We knew he always would.

Would love to have a copy of the match to keep and watch at my leisure on the larger screen - I wonder if there's any chance of a dvd????

Thank you for putting on the link to the whole match. We had only seen the highlights and it as wonderful to see the whole match ad the interviews. The last set was magnificent. How Andy played with a toenail off I cannot imagine. The pain must have been horrendous. This happened to me once on an endurance ride but at least my foot was in a stirrup but my goodness it was still painful.

I remember when I was about 13 I used to do both ballet and ice skating. In the morning I had an accident on the ice where I foolishly wasn't wearing my gloves - and a fingernail was sliced off. I had a ballet exam in the afternoon. I was shaking from the pain and was sure that I'd failed. But I passed!

It wasn't any problem for me to remember that Andy won Olympic gold, but for some reason the US Open win just won't sink in. I think it has something to do with the short ceremony. Can't wait for the AO, it's like carnival time over here. Australia Day fireworks, barbecues, flags everywhere, parties on beaches, and the tennis is the icing on the cake. And then there's my clients who constantly point to some tennis player and declare that he/she is 'winning the tennis' (they can't read well, so it doesn't matter, everyone's winning), and my work colleagues who are delighted to discuss the matches and ask me who this player is, how well they play, and so on. I always got the feeling that the US Open just doesn't have that holiday festival vibe to it. Not to mention the commentators on telly, who are pretty fair to all the players.

Okay, so I'm biased, bored, and going into tennis withdrawals already.

How does Britain enjoy the Wimbledon/summer season?

I love the fact that I book time off work for at least the second week of Wimbledon so can watch it all on TV. Plus as you said Aussie Andy, everyone who is not tennis mad at least knows what is going on and is talking about it.

Here's to Andy winning more GSs next year :cheer::cheer:

Just checking.
He did, didn't he?

Aussie Andy
27-09-2012, 02:56
Well, we currently have 22/23 pages in the Newspaper and Internet thread saying he did, although we could be victims of mass delusion. Just wait while I watch the match replay yet again... hmm, it LOOKS as though he won, but who can be sure? The video didn't give enough slow motion close-ups so I could tell.

BTW, I want to complain about my Australian Tennis Magazine which I bought this week. It had Serena Williams on the cover! And the poster they had inside was of David Ferrer! How insulting! How outragous! Who CARES about Serena Williams? Sure they did articles on Andy, but they didn't have any full-page photos! :grrr:

Now I shall have to wait until the other tennis magazine comes out, Tennishead. If they don't have Andy Murray on the cover, complete with trophy, Olympic medals, Kim, and dogs, I will complain to the editors.

I just wish they hadn't rushed the trophy ceremony.

They rushed it because their primetime evening schedule had been distrupted and because they want to stuff as many ads in there as possible. Sad thing about American tv, I'm afraid.

Okay, I couldn't help but share this with you all....

I came across this site today and saw some AMAZING photos of Andy at the US Open. Look at this one for example: http://ellaling.smugmug.com/Tennis/US-Open-2012/25573038_XZP2Wk#!i=2109804575&k=8qXtwtt

Isn't he gorgeous? Click on the photo to enlarge.. it looks even better! There are many, many more. I spent more than two hours seeing pics of Andy at tournaments dating back to 2010 and I think I saw supergran taking a pic of herself and Andy at the 2010 US Open.

The photographer is Ella Ling. You can follow her on twitter too @ellaling23. It really doesn't get better than this!

Just to say that Tennishead has released their next magazine, and it has a big picture of Andy kissing his trophy on the cover. All is forgiven. Now I just have to buy it tomorrow when the newsagents get it in.

Amazon are advertising a dvd of the final - released later in Nov! It's 336 minutes long, but if you look closely it does say "the story of Andy Murray's US Open triumph including extended highlights of the epic final" - so looks as though it's not the whole match, which is a shame.
But it's on my Christmas wish list anyway!

I echo your sentiment, Elenive. I really, really, really want him to win that. And Wimbledon. I don't care if he never wins the French, or the US again. Though I'll be happy for him if he does! So I suppose I do care.

JAMES4578
09-11-2012, 10:02
It seems ridiculous it's talking so long to get the replica but suppose he'll have it in his hands at some point! After being so close on a few occasions would be fabulous for Andy to win the Oz open in January though of course a few obstacles to overcome. Would love a Wimbledon too mind you and would also be thrilled with another Us open! Think all of them next year is unlikely though.

Alis
09-11-2012, 14:12
I can't understand why they don't have a replica ready to give to the winner on the day - it's not as though they don't know what it looks like!
