Memo from Melbourne: Ricoh Arena lined up for Great Britain's Davis Cup tie with Russia
Great Britain's Davis Cup team could be sent to Coventry for their unusually juicy Euro/Africa zone tie in April against Russia. A venue has yet to be announced but it is understood that the Ricoh Arena in the Midlands city is being strongly considered, along with Glasgow. Andy Murray has yet to decide whether he will play in a match that could propel GB to the verge of the elite World Group.

For anyone wondering about why the Ricoh Arena is under consideration here's an extract from their website (http://www.ricoharena.com/). The main 'Arena' is actually the Football pitch used by Coventry City FC. The likely tennis venue would be the Jaguar Indoor Arena (http://www.ricoharena.com/sport/sports-facilities/jaguar-indoor-arena/)which can accommodate up to 10,000* (or far fewer if the configuration for less is needed). One slight problem - especially in terms of parking - could be that Coventry City have a home game on 6th April which would be the DC doubles day.

Our Business is your Business
The Ricoh Arena is an international concert and sporting destination ...

The International Events Centre (IEC) at the Ricoh is a world-class conference, convention and exhibition centre that can cater for 7 to 7000 business delegates and up to 40,000 event visitors. The IEC at the Ricoh Arena has it all, from the bespoke De Vere suite meeting and training complex, to the technologically advanced 650 seater symposium auditorium with permanent AV and translation capability. In addition we can accommodate up to 1000 delegates in our column free E.ON Lounge, 1000 delegates in the Ibex hall 3 and 10,000 in our impressive 6000m2 Jaguar exhibition hall.

From the numerous conference/meeting facilities, to 2,000 onsite car parking spaces, the on site De Vere hotel, a variety of bars and restaurants and the largest casino in the UK we are the ultimate destination.

Our venue also boasts an ideal location within a 2 hour drive from 75% of the country, 500 yards from the M6, 10 minutes from a mainline national railway station and 20 minutes from an international airport.

Braehead Arena (http://www.braehead-arena.co.uk/)and it's facilities, well known to many of us, has a limited capacity of probably 2500 for a tennis event (they state 5200* on their website) which might be considered too small when hosting a tie against Russia.

In the last 6 years our 'biggest' opponents were Austria and Poland and those matches were played at Wimbledon Court 1 with a crowd capacity of 11,000. Since then, the level of our challenge has meant a smaller venue of up to 3000 seated was enough hence the trips to Bolton, Braehead, Liverpool and Eastbourne.

Russia is a biggie, they're ex-World Group and a much bigger draw.

Wonder which way the LTA will jump???
-------------------------------------------------------------------

* Having been to Braehead my guess is that the seating capacities indicated are for when the venue is in use as a conference or concert layout i.e. filled with seating and a stage at one end. So the venues are quoting their maximum capaciities.
The tennis court at Braehead takes up a fair bit of space reducing their actual seating capacity to around 2500.
If the same applies at the Jaguar Indoor Arena that'd make a max of around 7000.
Both places can be configured with fewer seats if ticket take up was low ...

Sallydaisy

Wish they would get a move on announcing a decision.
Not so far to Coventry Sally!!
Not for us - in fact it could be a day trip!!!
Others will still have long journeys though - e.g. all the Scottish fans who want to cheer on what might be a predominantly Scottish team!!! (Baker, Fleming, possibly a Murray or 2?).

HOTELS
Just so's you know:-

Braehead Arena has an almost inhouse hotel - the Travelodge which is about 1/4 mile walk all the way through to the Arena entrance. The rooms are very basic whereas the Campanile (which is about 3/4 mile away from Braehead Arena) has a bit more atmosphere and better facilities.
Some of us have made provisional reservations at the Campanile which can be cancelled up to 4/4/13 at n/c.

Ricoh Arena HAS an inhouse hotel - nearly 50% of the rooms have a window onto the football pitch!
;)
I can live without that - but if it's your bag it's the De Vere and they're currently quoting £150 for 5/6 April for 2 people sharing a room. They're also nearly fully booked so if the LTA doesn't decide soon it's almost certain that tennis fans will be staying in various places all at least a 10minute drive away.

Here's a full list (http://www.booking.com/searchresults.html?src=landmark&landmark=16163&error_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.booking.com%2Flandmark% 2Fgb%2Fricoh-arena.en-gb.html%3Flabel%3Dgog235jc-landmark-en-gb-ricohNarena-nobrand-gb-com%3Bsid%3Da120993023c265cfbe8bdf7ab9dc8f1a%3Bdci d%3D1%3Binac%3D0%3B&dcid=1&label=gog235jc-landmark-en-gb-ricohNarena-nobrand-gb-com&lang=en-gb&sid=a120993023c265cfbe8bdf7ab9dc8f1a&checkin_monthday=5&checkin_year_month=2013-4&checkout_monthday=7&checkout_year_month=2013-4&org_nr_rooms=1&org_nr_adults=2&org_nr_children=0&group_adults=2&group_children=0#map_opened) of hotel options but I've picked out the ones nearest to the Ricoh.

They might have noticed the "Location: Coventry" on the left there anyway.

Parking could be interesting given it's a home match day on Sunday. I am told that Coventry v Brentford isn't going to be that popular, but most parking will still be reserved for season ticket holders. I'm not sure if the attached indoor arena where the tennis would be has its own reserved parking or not, but even if it does, there will still be a lot of bodies in one place.

Isn't it a Saturday match for CC v Brentford?
I looked up the fixture list. Coventry City v Brentford Sat April 6 3pm
It could be OK if they played the doubles match EARLIER i.e 12noon or 5pm after the footie is over.

This is all idle speculation of course - we might still be up in Braehead!

:rolling:

I wonder if they are waiting to hear if Andy will play before committing to a venue.
Tricky decisions all round.

Andy is only likely to be in the UK for a short while after 4 weeks playing in Indian Wells/Miami (ends on 31.3.13) and before heading into Europe for the clay season starting in MonteCarlo on 14.4.13. So, if he reached the Final of Miami he'd probably not get home until 2nd April and would need to be off again on the 11/12th to practice a day on clay. 9 days?

If Andy were to play he might prefer it be Scotland to make the most of his time so he can catch up with family/friends during a 4/5 day trip (and visit his new investment up the road?) and knowing a lot of 'home' fans would be there to cheer him on. However, the combination of Andy's presence and the opposition being a recent World Group team like Russia puts the LTA in a dilemma. They'd want maximum exposure for our star player (and maximum profits) which the limited capacity of Braehead might not offer.

This tie really does warrant a 3/4000 crowd regardless of Andy's participation. I wonder why the Echo Arena hasn't been considered (maybe it was?) because that would have offered a good option this time round with great facilities for players and fans alike.

The alternative seems to be Coventry which is probably better in terms of the number of fans it can accommodate. If Andy wanted to play, but didn't want an extended visit to Scotland, this makes sense particularly taking into account that we're up against Russia. His close family have often travelled to DC ties to see him play so he'd get to see them anyway (and he did head to Scotland for Christmas for a catch-up as well as his Dunblane walkabout).

The other factor is Lendl who didn't represent his country for DC and is likely to be working with Andy on his schedule and, 'cos it's his job!, how to manage what he does to win more Grand Slams. IMHO that might not include playing 3 days on an indoor hard court at DC. Hope I'm wrong though ... I'm pretty certain that Ivan will want Andy to do well on clay (and spring a surprise win?) so how Muzzah ends up spending those 9 days in early April is still very uncertain.

Had heard that Coventry and Braehead both being considered, but can't remember where that was quoted. If the team consisted of the Muzz Bros plus Colin Fleming and maybe Jamie Baker, then surely Braehead is the obvious choice. But appreciate that everyone south of Hadrians Wall would like somewhere different for a change. Surely they must be announcing the venue soon though?

...although of course for many of us it's within day-trip distance. ;)

More to the point, Andy likes being able to stay at home during Wimbledon! Probably he's got enough bedrooms in his mansion to be able to put up all the team there rather than staying in a public hotel...

Didn't the commies say something about Earl's Court being considered during Andy's match this morning? (I was dozing off at the time!)

Heard them talking about Earls Court, Coventry and Glasgow again just now in the highlights programme. Frew then quipped "If Murray doesn't play he should be sent to Coventry"

I suppose if it were at Earls Court, in London, that'd make it easier for Rosco to come along and say hello to the team.
:)

I know where I'd like to send Frew McMillan and it isn't suitable to be posted on the forum.

Coventry would be a day trip on the train for us .... but it's nice to have the weekend away and have a few drinks with everyone after the tennis. May consider staying at least one night anyway for that reason.

If it's Braehead, have pre-booked the Campanile. Would quite like Liverpool. Had a great time last time it was there.

Steven - How could you say Birmingham is worse than Coventry?! We could fall out you know ;) Spent my formative years in Brum and its a great city ... yes, really! I remember a run of DC ties similar to the number of times it has now been at Braehead. It was at the NIA in the city centre - great venue and great atmosphere.

It's up to everyone else what they do ... but Pabbers and I had a chat and we've hedged our bets and made reservations which can be cancelled so we've got a hotel sorted out.

Braehead - at the Campanile for 4nights (arr Thu, dep Mon). Bit of a walk but sharing taxis is inexpensive if shared. It means we can easily get to the Arena, shops, restaurant and easy access to motorways/airport/trains. And a lot of us know our way around so that makes it easy.

Coventry (http://www.premierinn.com/en/hotel/COVCRO/coventry-east-m6,j2?cmp=GLBC)- at the Premier Inn (Coventry East) for 2 nights (Fri/Sat). It's tucked away at the edge of a retail park and close to Jnt2, M6. The reason for picking the Premier Inn is that we know they tend to be consistent nationwide and we think it's good value. Within walking distance is a Bowling complex with several 'chain' restaurants and there is also a Taybarn restaurant/bar alongside (as there was at Bolton). Oh, and a huge Tesco Extra within walking distance. It does mean a 10/15 minute journey to the tennis but we think that more people will have cars so we can share lifts and the route is very easy along 1 junction of the M6.

I guess the LTA will announce the location when they've finalised everything and not before. I'd stress we do not know where we are going!!!

To be fair, I've only ever spent one afternoon in Coventry and 90% of my time in Birmingham was at the NEC (and not at the DC tie there), so I probably didn't get the best impression. LOL

I only saw the NIA ties on TV but you're right, they seemed to have a fantastic atmosphere.

Coventry it is folks - but without Andy.

Per NeilHarman on twitter:-

Neil Harman ‏@NeilHarmanTimes (https://twitter.com/NeilHarmanTimes) GB Davis Cup tie v. Russia in April will be played in Coventry. No Andy Murray this time around
Jamie Baker and James Ward will almost certainly be lead singles players for GB v. Russia.
Doubles - Jamie Murray and Colin Fleming?

Neil Harman ‏@NeilHarmanTimes (https://twitter.com/NeilHarmanTimes) @TennisReporters (https://twitter.com/TennisReporters) No definitive reason given. Presumably to concentrate on clay preparation. No Andy means very little chance of victory

It is up to everyone where they want to book hotels BUT there are quite a few and fairly spread out. So, if we want to stay together and socialise then staying in the same one makes sense.

Some of us have chosen the Premier Inn (Coventry East, Gielgud Way) simply because it's a chain we know which offers decent rooms/service and it has a bar and restaurant adjacent. It's also very close to other eating places/bowling alley and a big Tesco is around the corner.

Given that more of us are likely to drive this time around we can probably organise lifts to and from the Hotel and Arena (a 10/15min zip up the M6).

I'll try to find out group ticket prices and post back here with details.

Just looking at hotels after Lankster Chris said on twitter that the Hilton had good deals - indeed they do! £82.80 for room only for 2 nights or £104 with breakfast. Versus the Premier Inn at £119 without breakfast!!

Sallydaisy
31-01-2013, 18:34
Don't want to mislead anyone so here goes. Last week one or two of us booked the Premier Inn Coventry East on spec because we know what the standard is and knew we could cancel if the tie was at Braehead after all or Earls Court.

Now we know - and there are many more hotel options including some much cheaper deals.

I understand that the Hilton is currently quoting £52 room/night including breakfast (through booking.com (http://www.booking.com/searchresults.en-gb.html?label=gog235jc-landmark-en-gb-ricohNarena-nobrand-gb-com;sid=a120993023c265cfbe8bdf7ab9dc8f1a;dcid=1;ch eckin_monthday=5;checkin_year_month=2013-4;checkout_monthday=7;checkout_year_month=2013-4;class_interval=1;csflt={};dest_id=16163;dest_typ e=landmark;inac=0;landmark=16163;latitude=52.4481; longitude=-1.496;order=popularity;radius=8;redirected_from_ci ty=0;redirected_from_landmark=0;review_score_group =empty;score_min=0;si=ai%2Cco%2Cci%2Cre%2Cdi;src=s earchresults;ss=Ricoh%20Arena;ss_all=0;ssb=empty;s sne=Ricoh%20Arena;ssne_untouched=Ricoh%20Arena;row s=20;offset=20)) non-refundable. There are others that might be around the same price but these are likely to be deals that cannot be cancelled.
It also has a swimming pool ...

Here's a reminder of some of the other places to stay.

These are all within 10/20mins drive of the Ricoh.

North-west of the Arena and closest to it

McDonald Ansty Hall (http://www.macdonaldhotels.co.uk/our-hotels/macdonald-ansty-hall/rooms/) - 4miles out, country house hotel, quoting £138 for 2 for 5/6 April (non-refundable)

The Hilton and the Premier Inn are less than 1 km from each other (10-15 mins walk) so if some people are staying at each, it shouldn't be hard to meet up.

I'm shocked at how bad (i.e. virtually non-existent) rail links are within Coventry and how little accommodation there is within walking distance of the Ricoh, apart from the on-site hotel which doesn't have great reviews.

PatM, Pabbers and I in Premier but we know we can cancel rooms if need be and go to Hilton.
Going to decide later tonight ...

1 or 2 others looking at Hilton because of the better price they are offering (£52/night including breakfast).

They are about 1/2 mile from each other opp sides of the A4600 Hinckley Rd so pretty close.
Premier has better facilities nearby - other restaurants, Tesco.
Hilton bigger, has more formal businessy areas, pool and gym.

Either way getting together won't be a problem because so many more of us will have cars.

It'll probably be a bit like at Braehead with some in Premier and some in Hilton.

EDIT - Caro/Gill going to Hilton Sat night only.

PARKING AT THE RICOH
Fri/Sun will be OK but Saturday there is a Coventry City home Footie match.

Wonder if the LTA are negotiating any kind of deal or perhaps playing the doubles earlier or later so tennis fans can also be able to travel and park cars easily?

Right. Pabbers and i have switched to the Hilton at £46 per night sharing a twin room and w/out breakfast. + it'll cost us £10 each to park cars but that guarantees a space. It means we'll pay per night £56 instead of £63 at the Premier Inn.

The Hilton also has a £41 per night special w/end deal which means min Fri/Sat nights but I suggest you read the small print to check details before committing to booking.

So, that seems to make the Hilton the hotel of choice for this tie.!!!

Here's a link if anyone needs it:

I have now booked in at the Hilton (thanks for the link) and cancelled my booking with Premier Inns (thankfully I had paid the small extra amount to have a flexible booking).

I see that check-in time is 3pm and 'early check-in cannot be guaranteed' so we'll have to phone beforehand about that. There was nowhere to add parking to the booking so I suppose we pay for that separately when we arrive. I see that In-Room Wireless Internet costs £15 (it doesn't say whether that is per night or per stay) but Public Wireless Internet is free.

Sallydaisy

At least we can leave things in our cars whilst at the tennis; not sure how that is all going to work for those travelling by public transport. Wonder if there is a 'left luggage' facility as there was at the PI in Liverpool? They had a huge store room IIRC.
Nearer the time we can co-ordinate what happens perhaps.

I think the parking at or near the Ricoh is likely to be a bit of a headache; most Car Parks seem to involve a 10-15 minute walk to the venue itself so we need to find out more on that. One thing is very clear - there is NO onstreet parking anywhere near the Ricoh and they're very strict about enforcing that for the sake of local residents.

Don't worry Sue! It's a shame you can't come - best wishes to you and family!

I guess you, and many others far north, will have the same dilemma some of us southerners had when the DC was played at Braehead. It's easier to get to an event if it is on your doorstep and if it isn't there's a lot to weigh up in terms of time and costs.

I'm sure the Hilton will have a left luggage facility. Most half decent hotels do. In fact the only one I have come across that doesn't is the Travelodge chain!

We will go straight to the arena on Friday as going home that day but will leave the car at the Hilton on Sat. I think the best idea is to get taxis to the arena for which we can share cost. I can't imagine it will cost more than parking at the arena, and will be a lot less hassle!

I've updated the first post of this thread with price and seat details. We have 30 spaces reserved but only 15 confirmed names so far so here's hoping we can fill up!!! Deadline for booking is Monday 11th February.

We have some great seats!!!
In the words of the TD:
"Sally holds = Stand C Row E 61-69. Rows F-H seats 63-69 ie total 30 seats [behind GBR team bench]"

So the lads will hear us cheering them on!

I have a medical appt in Banbury on Monday morning so plan on going up to Coventry Ricoh after that to suss out the joint and will add further information that evening.

Hi guys, have been talking to Liz and we've decided to join the party with the forum for all 3 days. Ideally, if possible we would like to sit together for 2 of the 3 days and if you could give me an aisle seat so i could stretch out my long legs. If that doesn't suit then that's fine.

By the way, the seats sound amazing :}

Hi all

We have some spaces left so if you know anyone that might like to join us please let them know.
5 spaces for all 3 days and 2 spaces for Friday and Sunday only.

To those who've now committed I'm sending out emails over the next 24hrs which will cover:-
1. paying!
2. transport to/fro - there is a LOT to think about.
3. Hilton Hotel facilities
4. local facilities/places to eat/meet/drink

I'm trying to sift through the mass of information I picked up so it would help to get all 4 wodges of information before lobbing any questions at me. I'm sure there will be queries that we need more answers to ...

Meanwhile - here's a seating plan showing where we'll be. Please note - the LTA always has to set aside certain spaces which are not for sale to fans e.g. away team supporters, home team family/friends and officials. We cannot sit in those areas no matter how many bottles of hooch I threaten my contact with.
;)

RICOH ARENA SEATING PLAN

http://d3tv2c2b9wxna2.cloudfront.net/images/seatMapImages/Ricoh_Arena_13_Small.png

.........................1......... 2.............. 3........... 4........ 5
..................... ...^.........^.............. ^...........^........ ^
OK. Looking at the diagram I'm going to sub-label the C block as:
1. the left hand oblong
2. the left inner squiggle
3. the middle
4. the right inner squiggle
5. the right hand oblong

Our seats are in section 4, the right inner squiggle, and our rows are the whole narrow section there.
So, we are NOT immediately behind the team bench (which extends from the Umps chair to the service line) but very close and it should enable us to get some decent close-up photos of the team.

I hope this is OK with everyone.

They are no longer available. One of our members had them made when our forum was part of Andy's official website, so they say Team Murray on the front and andymurray.com on the back. I really think we should look at getting some new ones (I realise there isn't time for this DC) with our new forum website on.

Yes, you can, but you're likely to get spaces in one of the further-away car parks, and I guess in theory they could run out of spaces. It's fairly cheap, so best to book in advance, I'd say - just to be sure...

Having said that, we booked ours weeks ago, and we're in Car Park C which is still a bit of a walk...

Sallydaisy
25-03-2013, 19:09
Agree with KnightOwl - best to book, especially on Saturday 6th April because there is a Coventry City home match and Car Park C has already been opened up to footie fans for booking spaces. The other car parks available are a 15/20minute walk (I'm hoping Car Park C is only 10/15mins via the footbridge or underpass!).

Apparently they're still hoping to play their remaining three home matches there, so if they manage to get that sorted with Arena Coventry it probably won't make much difference as regards parking for DC - but it's not looking good for the club - they've been struggling financially for a while now...

Wishing everyone who is travelling a distance a safe journey and hoping that you all have a wonderful time and give lots of loud support to our boys.....they're going to need it. Looking forward to info on here and on twitter so that I can, in a small way, feel part of it.:GBflag::thumbup::GBsmile:

Pity some of you who'd like to come can't make it, we'll certainly cheer the team and sure you'll do your best from afar! Look forward to seeing you another time! Replied to Sally email, just to say here that my choice for Saturday night would also be The Hilton as I think it's the best menu and also more convenient.

Well Pat, you could tell him that many Andy supporters are absolutely sick of his inane drivel and how he latches on to every mistake Andy makes with undisguised glee and that a lot of people think he is a *****************On second thoughts, better not. Why don't you all just hiss when he is introduced? Ssssssssssss:GBsmile:

Ok ....DC tickets, parking tickets and all instructions received ...... but I am so out of touch ..... who is 'Bouncy' and what has he done???? I really must try to keep up! Soooo looking forward to next weekend but I need to know who it is I'm meant to hiss at :easterbunny:

Ah yes, I never was very keen on him ... hissing practice will commence :grrr: Hope the sheep are ok. We'll miss you next weekend. Home turf for us, but Coventry is absolutely NOT my favourite place to drive in. I will have to have my calm hat on ready for the horrible ring road where you suddenly have to be across 3 lanes and no time to do it ... terrible road planning.

Have fun everyone and cheer and hiss loudly. Wish there was a DC while I will be in UK but will have to settle for Wimbledon, he!! he!!. Hoping to meet some of you then.

Eeeeek I hope I don't have to tackle that road.........hate driving when I don't know where I am. But will have satnav at least - Sally will disapprove I know but I think on balance she'd rather I turned up than not!

Ah, yes, the lovely on-off junctions where cars are leaving and joining via the same slip-road....!

Pat - assuming you'll be coming M5/M42 you're probably best to carry on up to the M6 then east along there til the roundabout with the M69/A46 which is pretty much right next to the Hilton - do that and you won't have to go anywhere near the ring-road!

Nope, M1 and M6 for you.

Thanks Sally, what time are you hoping to arrive at Coventry?

Sallydaisy

Anyone who is travelling via the Motorway network next week has no need to go anywhere near Coventry town centre and most can stay off the ring road completely.

Bear in mind that both your destinations are right by exits from the M6.
Ricoh is Junction 3 of the M6.
Hilton Hotel is Junction 2 of the M6 where it meets the M69.

From the South-East ...
a) M1/M6 to J2 and south
b) M40 then
- J12 and A423 to pick up A46 ring road north which becomes A4600 before it reaches J2 of the M6.
- J15 off at Warwick and A46 (almost all dual carriageway) all the way up.

From the South-West ...
M5, M42, M6 Londonbound

From North-East
M1, M69 to end where it meets J2 of M6 and off there to get to Hilton

From North-West
M6

erm, people with Satnavs can presumably look up/key in/follow a route?

Haven't thought about it yet tbh Pat. Doors don't open until 12? for play at 14.00 on the first day.
Was thinking of arriving 11ish but please don't take that as an actual ...
I can let you know better the day before?

You have two options, Pat - either M1/M45/A45/A46, which is what I do on the way home from work, or as Sally suggests, stick on the M1 til you get to the M6 just north of Rugby, then west along there (2 junctions I think) til you get to the same roundabout I mentioned earlier - where the M6, M69 and A46 all meet just next to the Hilton.

The first option would be quieter, if there's traffic (avoiding the M6 is usually a good plan if it's busy!) but there more junctions etc to think about, so the second option would probably be better for you as long as the traffic isn't ridiculous.

Edit: sorry, Sally, hadn't noticed your post when I replied to Pat :shamed:

Are those of us with cars arriving at the hotel first? Or do we go straight to the Arena - I know we can't check in but I wasn't sure if we're shuttling from the word go or if we start by shuttling back from the Arena after the tennis.

Shuttling apart I suppose it's an issue of whether to ask the hotel to store luggage till check in time if I arrive there first or if I go straight to the Arena, trusting I won't have my car broken into! Also my car is very small (Ka) so if we ARE shuttling folk back from the Arena with luggage, it may have to be spread among other cars.

Sorry if this is a bit anal!

For this one, Sally, I think the J12 option is a bit tricky if people don't know the area - I'd recommend the J15/A46 bit for most people, but if anyone fancies the country-lane alternative, I would say the best bet if you're coming off at M40 J12 is to take the Gaydon road (B4451) then west along the B4100 til you get to the Fosse Way (B4455) which is a lovely straight old roman road, and takes you right up to the tail end of the A423 where you can pick up the A46 Coventry bypass up to the Hilton :)

You really want a reply to that last sentence .....

I've asked the hotel about 'left luggage' and am waiting for a reply.
Also, I'm waiting to see how many of those coming by train will have got to the hotel before we need to leave and if so how we 'manage' things because of the 4 or 5 who might have luggage they MUST leave somewhere.

I'd have thought it best to congregate at the hotel because:-
a) residents can park there for free from the off i.e. arrive, and go to Ricoh using tokens exiting
b) people travelling a distance can get a coffee and check out the area if they want to
c) it's a far better 'landmark' than anything we could give people at the Ricoh.

Was planning to update folks on the finer details mid-week.
