Tipsy doesn't have to beat Ferrer in straights for Andy to play Del P, any kind of win from Tipsy will do.
Why couldn't Del P have played the 2nd set like he's played the 3rd so far?

I hope you are right. Technically it would mean more time for Andy or Federer whoever wins to rest before the final... Good for the homegrown player. Unless Federer complains of lack of rest between today and semi which will be very annoying and that is what I am worried will happen

As for who Andy plays next, we'll have to wait until this evening.

xenon21
10-11-2012, 16:26
Yup, BBC only have the afternoon semi so having Andy vs Federer in afternoon makes the most sense!

I get the feeling Federer would prefer to play andy as he did try and get one set. Apart from his serving in the 2nd set he was relatively poor though DelPo played very well

JAMES4578
10-11-2012, 16:42
A impresssive performance from Del potro, though of course Fed wasn't firing on all cylinders and knew he had already qualified. Know he can step it up but all being well sure Andy can handle him! In any case really can't see Tipsy beating Ferrer.

I am hearing talk that Federer vs Andy may be an evening match. gutted if so but no confirmation yet

So, it would be Andy Vs Delpo? 5-1 for Andy, but their last meeting was in 2009...

Poor Ferru and Tipsy, they'll play "for nothing"!

Andy/DelP if Tipsy wins, Andy/Fed if Ferrer wins.

So basically Tipsy/Ferrer are playing to determine the matchups for the semis. Great consolation prize I'm sure.

Tomorrow BBC coverage 2-4.30 on BBC 2. Sky Sports 2 coverage 12 noon and then 6pm. We have been badly let down by the BBC. No doubles, one singles daily and to read what BBC 3 and 4 are showing from 7 pm is laughable. Something else has struck me. As Fed played today will he prefer the evening match....after all what he wants he usually gets.

Alis

No because, Federer and Del Potty will both have won 2 matches and Del Potty wins on H2H. If Ferrer had won, then there would have been 3 players with 2 matches each, so sets and games count and not H2H.

He won his first two matches in straights and took a set of Potty. I think he looks just fine altho' I do have to say that Djoko defo looks the best of the bunch. But I'm hoping Andy can sneak by all of 'em.

Yeah, Nole is lookiing very good, although it was just a few points between Andy and him in their matchup so there's hope! Also, if Andy does end up playing Potty, Andy still has a very tough match on his hands.

david1610
10-11-2012, 20:27
Yes on balance although Federer could be trickier if he is on form, I completely agree that Andy is likely to be more "up for it".

BTW if del Potro or Federer had to withdraw with an injury, do they move everybody up so the third place finisher gets a SF berth or does the opponent get a bye to the final.
If I were the organisers I would do the former as then 17 800 paying customers get what they have paid for (as well as the doubles of course).
If that is the case, even if remote, I would be putting a bit more into it if I were Ferrer!

Very true but compare Fed's half of the draw to the other one and he beat who precisely in straights??? I don't think he'd have had quite such an easy ride if he'd been in Andy's half instead of Andy! So chins up as we say in our house. Potty is playing outstanding tennis, that last ace (yes I know he has a height advantage) was one of the best I've seen all season (of course Andy's ace right on the edge of the box in the last game of the us open final wins best ace of the season!!). Really hope Potty puts nole asleep for 2012. This has been suggested before and I think if Jamie had a higher ranking it probably would happen. Unfortunately, Jonny has said that he needs someone with a higher ranking to guarantee him entry to main tour events particularly the Majors. It's a great pity as they would probably both profit from such a partnership and it would be great to have another good all British doubles pairing but it seems to be a bit of a chicken and egg situation.

In fact they did actually have a small spell of playing together - including taking Nestor and Zimonjic to 5 sets at Wimbledon in their round one match in 2010...

What a pity they didn't stay together then. I have to say I don't really understand why so many good pairings seems to break up so regularly.

Indeed Marc Lopez has been doing very well lately, though would prefer Bhupathi and Bopanna to prevail I think. Real pity about the fall out with Leander and Mahesh though.

I'd really like Marc to win because he's such a good friend of Rafa's. I guess it's good that Mahesh is doing so well coz he's teaming up with Danny next year. Anyway, ONCE AGAIN, I'll be more interested in the dubs match than the singles. I do hope Djokovic can cream Federer, preferably in straights.

Good match, though I was disappointed it kind of fizzled out in the ctb after Mahesh and Rohan levelled the match. Feel it should really be a 3rd set to decide it but still Marc and Marcel were in great form.

'Hopefully retirement looms'

Delighted to hear the news that Djokovic thrashed Federer last night; wish it had been Andy but he was a spent force in his last matches. It's been a wonderful year for him and all his fans and much to look forward to in 2013. I shall always admire Federer's achievements but in recent years he's just got so smug and fond of opulence - our Andy will never go down that route no matter how successful he becomes! Age catches up with us all and I'm sure Federer is already planning his next 'job' - king of Europe perhaps?
Hope Andy enjoys some quality time with Kim and Maggie and Rusty; perhaps get Kim a ring for Christmas - now I'm getting carried away!

Hi Pat,

Fantastic week at the O2. A friend I met there did all 15 sessions which would just be too much! I went to 7 (four afternoon and three evening) and would not do any more. I am sure Andy will come back next ready for action. He still has a 10-9 H2H over Federer. Perhaps next year he will widen that. I think I am right in saying he and Rafa are the only players who has a positive record H2H over Federer?

I was delighted to see the match last night. WELL DONE NOLE!!

I think rafa/nole/andy have muchos respect for eachother and never say anything condescending. nole possibly possibly could enter smug king of the world mode if he won 17 slams but he seems to have a lot more awareness for other players. i still cant believe how strong hes come on mentally like if he does a flop point you can see him refocus and nearly always wins next point. look forward to more marathon battles! rafa is missed too hope hes ready by oz open

Just repeating what the commie - Castle I think - had said. Seemingly, it is an unwritten rule that the lower ranked player takes the seat to the right of the umpire and the higher ranked player to the left (although it could well have been the other way around) . Fed would have known this. Surely even if the towels had been put in the wrong place Fed should have taken the correct seat. He certainly would not have been amused if the boot had been on the other foot!

:cheer: :cheer: :cheer:  :trophy:

I hope his father recovers well.

The world No1 will fly home to *Belgrade today and intends to take the trophy he lifted at The O2 into the *intensive care unit for his dad to see.

Srdjan is understood to have a serious blood disorder and Djokovic said: “It is something that has been happening for the last couple of weeks. At a certain stage, it was very critical and we didn’t know what tomorrow brings.

“But now he’s much better and is recovering although he is still in intensive care. I will visit him and try to bring the trophy with me and at least make him smile. Having my father fighting his own fight for health gave me extra strength that I wanted to play for him in a way. That’s one of the reasons I really gave it all every match. This was a title for him.”
