The longest ever #Wimbledon ladies singles semifinal was 2 hrs 50 mins between Dementieva and Serena (who won the match) in 2009.

This singles semifinal between #Radwanska & #Lisicki is already the longest women's match played (in games) at this year's #Wimbledon

It became a great contest with so many twists and turns some drama! Whilst I'd have preferred a Radwanska win as I find her a more attractive player also a Lisicki fan and she's really stepped it up this tournament and she should be more confident outside of the grass now/ Whilst not completely discounting Bartoli Sabine must be clear favourite to win it. Think Aga needed more first serves at crucial times today though obviously she fought and also had another good run.

I meant I find Radwanska's game style just a bit more attractive, though it might have been a bit ambiguous :big grin:

Agreed on all fronts!

I was a wee bit torn about this match, as I like both players - but if pushed would have liked Aga to win. A bit gutted for her but at the same time, such a wonderful win for Sabine.

I am glad that their semi final match lived up to its billing, and especially so after the relative non-event of the other semi final.

The Sabine v Aga match was the final for me. I had been hoping that whoever won the match would go on to take the title. They would be a deserving champion. Fingers crossed that Sabine can do it.

I'm with you S8 - felt that match should have been the final. I'm gutted for Aggie because I love watching her play but Sabine is a very engaging character and has made Wimbledon hers this year. I have nothing against Bartoli but I think it would be good for women's tennis if Lisiki won on Saturday.

I am rooting for her after seeing her beat Serena so well on Monday and it would be great for German women's tennis! cant believe Steffi Graff was last woman in final!!!

That was defo final material rather than semi. I hope the final is a three-setter too. I hate these rubbish one-sided finals. But happy to see Lisicki prevail altho' I really like Aga too. And good to see Marion in the final as well. It'll be interesting. My husband is very happy - he LOVES Lisicki!

I seem to remember Boris Becker a few years ago saying that she was a young player to watch.

Really hope Sabine wins the final - was listening to the final set on the radio and she finished just in time for my golf match! What was that about at the net at the end? Radwanska appeared very unsporting.

Think it should be a great final - 2 battlers.

I can only imagine how disappointed Aga must have been; this was her best chance probably to win a slam.

JAMES4578

on the highlights programme Martina wondered if there was any history between Aga and Sabine. Whilst disappointing she made such a quick exit I think Aga felt she had missed a great chance and was annoyed with herself.

Oh I was so looking forward to this final but it was really disappointing. Sabine let the occasion get to her and it affected her tennis badly. But kudos to Marion - she stayed focussed and solid. How many chances will Lisicki get? I doubt she'll get another one but I do hope so. She did brilliantly to beat Stosur, Franny, Serena and Aga.

Well done to both Lisicki and Bartoli, they both did a great job to gt to the final.

Massive congrats to Bartoli - even though Lisicki was the fans favourite

Nice to see Bartoli happy and take the win after her 2007 loss to Venus.

A bit of an anti-climax but some good moments. I thought Marion played very well and Sabine seemed to be paralysed with nerves until she started playing better in the middle of the second set. Well done Bartoli..she played so well and I'm pleased for her. Loved her reaction and the hug at the net. Did wonder though who the attractive blonde lady in the black dress who reached out for a hug was.......as Marion ignored her. Lovely speeches from both ladies.

JAMES4578
06-07-2013, 15:49
A pity Sabine didn't really do herself justice as she seemed overwhelmed by the occasion, however Marion was on form and deserved the win. She returned really well though of course it wasn't a confident delivery from the German. The comeback was just too late, had she taken bp early in the 2nd things might have been different. Obviously Marion had the easier route but you faced the challenges before her and Sabine couldn't quite get up for the title match, maybe she wanted it too much.

Gutted for Sabine, who I thought was more deserving when you compared their paths. I hope she gets another chance in the future as she seems to be a really nice girl.

Am I the only one who wanted Marion to win ? I was really happy for her after losing to Venus last time, I felt she doesn't have a lot of chances of winning a Slam but Sabina is still vey young with a lot of talent, she will bounce back and am sure she will win one soon. Massive Congrats Marion, so happy for you and your father.

Really.........and why is that? What if we'd said that about Andy. Look at the oppo she got through to get where she did - speaks for itself IMHO and she's only 23 and still coming back from injury. She just hasn't had the experience of the big occasion before. Next time (and I believe there will be one) she'll be more prepared.

Was disappointed as I wanted her to win but am happy for Bartoli.

Before the match I thought I would prefer Lisicki to win, but I am glad that Bartoli won, as she was in a Wimbly final several years ago and lost, so it's nice that she has won it at last. I'm sure Lisicki will have more chances and hopefully will win it sometime in the future.

I hope she does but let's face it this was a freak Wimbledon where the top seeds went out early. Yes, she beat some top players but can it happen again? I don't know. I really hope she does do it, would dearly love to see her win this trophy.

Yes, that's true. But Lisicki is 8 years younger than Serena - Serena must surely start to decline at some point and Lisicki is still on the way up.

Must give full credit to Marion.

Everyone knew that a huge opportunity arose when the big 3 were out of the tournament. She was the one able to take that opportunity. Her resilience when Sabine did threaten was impressive, and she won so many games from deuce, fought off so many break points.

Fortune favoured the brave and well-prepared - including those power-naps!

Had her seedings panned out, her path to the final would have been:

R3 Cirstea (22) (Giorgi)
R4 Sharapova (Knapp)
QF Stephens
SF Azarenka (Flipkens)
F S Williams (Lisicki)

I doubt anyone would think she'd win based on that! But even 2 of the big 3 would have been a major obstacle. I don't think that it is doing her a disservice to say that the draw was uber-kind to her.

She beat who was in front of her. Only the 6th or 7th time a player has won Wimby without dropping a set.

That non-hug in the players' box was strange moment.

Far too much negativity about her appearance either, which does make it better that she did win the damned thing. Inverdale made a disgraceful comment on 5live about her. The BBC have apologised about it already - but the person who said it ought to be made accountable for his comments. Details here:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/tennis/wimbledon/10164511/Wimbledon-2013-BBC-apologise-for-John-Inverdales-Bartoli-not-a-looker-comment.html

Yes, I just posted that on the News thread. Disgraceful of Inverdale. But nothing to the truly vile comments that have been posted on Twitter by loads of people. I just cannot understand them. I feel so sorry for Marion if she sees any of it. I don't often tweet to players, but I have tweeted to her to congratulate her on her win, as I feel that she will need as many positive tweets as possible. (NB I did in my blog comment on her eccentricity, but I don't see that as being rude. I like eccentricity in players.)

It's a Nike T-shirt, right - so possibly from Nike themselves?

I had a wee look around. A few sites had the women's one, but no more - but there are men's ones kicking about - but not sure if that would do? e.g. John Lewis (of all places)

http://www.johnlewis.com/nike-tennis-grass-union-jack-t-shirt/p398140

There were other sites too (I noticed that sizes were limited on JL site..)
