I am so sick of commies praising Novak and how brilliant he was....he has had an easy run all week and no opposition at all tonight. OK. He played as well as he had to tonight but he may find tomorrow a bit more difficult

He certainly looked more like his old self than earlier in the week but Kei gave it to him on a plate so don't agree with the commies going OTT with the praise. My main concern for Andy is physical and mental tiredness, but he can only go out and give it all he's got. At least he knows this is his final match of the year

Well, that was pathetic from Nishikori.

Nothing left in the tank; I am afraid for Andy in that regard tomorrow.

So am I. However he really didn't expect to hit No 1 this side of Christmas. He has, and nothing can ever take that away.

How did Djokovic actually play as it seemed from the scoreline that kei did not turn up

Better than he has earlier in the week, but Kei was very very poor so hard to know how Djok would be when tested

........................... but they always do go overboard, don't they? Let's just see what happens tomorrow. I just hope that Andy has something left in the tank.

Thinking about Andy's week so far - he played really well against Ciluc, not so well against Nishikori, really well against Wawrinka, not so well against Raonic - so he's due a cracking match against Djokovic tomorrow to keep the sequence going!;)

What a heart attack inducing match today!! We've all been following Andy for enough years to know that we can't be sure how he's going to be the next day. It seems that all is pointing against him tomorrow but this is the LAST match of the season. Our boy will fight, we know that and it's all we can ask of him. Good luck Andy, praying you can do it cos you absolutely deserve the year end no 1 accolade far more than Djokovic does.

The sad fact is that tomorrow is a must win against all the odds for Andy. Not because of the #1 spot only but as much because it's his first meeting with Nole for some time and if Andy really wants to keep Nole down then he has to ensure he doesn't rekindle Nole's confidence by either letting him win easily or indeed at all.

Nishikori was woeful. And we missed most of the doubles due to the queues to get back in. Being at Andy's match did compensate. All I can say right now is what a privilege it was.... I'm still recovering!

I'm sure there must have been a lot of frustrated people at the O2 last night. Tickets are very expensive and missing the doubles due to queues followed by a very one-sided match is not value for money. Luck of the draw, I guess, and the afternoon crowd got it all.

I was lucky enough to be there in the afternoon. Evening session very disappointed. I watched Strictly again.

When the O2 sends out an email about heightened security, don't sensible people turn up in plenty of time? I know my friends and I did.......

Just in case we wonder if Mr Lendl will be completely passive, don't forget past rivalries in the boxes! I am sure he will be remembering this as well! http://www.atpworldtour.com/en/video/epic-becker-v-lendl-1988-masters-final
C'mon Andy!

That wasn't the problem. The problem was that those with evening only tickets were stuck queuing outside waiting on the afternoon session to finish - -those of us at the afternoon session had to come out and join the back of that queue. And they couldn't let the queue in straightaway as they had to clean up. That's why we were so late getting in. It was a complete bottle neck. I get why this is the system. My complaint is they shouldn't have started the doubles til more folk could get in. It was t our fault we couldn't get in on time and it's not fair on the players to come out to such an empty arena.

Totally agree, did not help Jamie and Bruno, they must have been affected

Novak giving the journos instructions but will they listen?

"We should let Andy enjoy this, guys. Don't ask him questions about (defending the No. 1 ranking) next season."

He also said.....

'There was no serious chance for me to win this match. He was the better player.'

It is funny that one of the supposed best World Tour finals was between Andy's and Nole's coaches.

The irony is that they moved the start time of the evening session earlier because in the first couple of years, the session was going on too late and people were having to leave before the end to get the last trains home. You can't predict how long some matches will take and the Andy/Raonic match was probably a freak occurrence (except it happened earlier in the week too!!). Just one of those weeks where the organisers can't really win.

well I've had a wonderul tme watching the tennis, on tv, reading all the posts, the up-loads etc, utterly thrilled for Andy etc.
But I reckon Djo is utterly thrilled too. not saying he threw the match, but certainly not himself, not the man who pulverised Kei, but Andy is now the Number 1, so Djo has a purpose in life, to regain his crown. if this leads to a series of close title fights I will be delighted.
I characterise Djo as The Man, and Andy as the Fighter, the guy who can comeback from 2 breaks down in the fifth to win it.

Just wondering about the Djokovic fans. Were they all Serbian? I thought I heard a couple of British accents shouting out for Nole.

No they weren't all Serbian. Some were, but there were also other (I would imagine) Eastern Europeans, Orientals and Brits. Either side of me were young people supporting Djoko. Fortunately, there were two young guys supporting Andy who were right next to me.

There were British voices cheering for Nole, SG. I know people are entitled to support who they like, but in many cases they weren't cheering for who they genuinely like, rather were doing it to be all superior -the 'I'm so non-conformist, dahling' type. Overheard one Nole "supporter" ask her friend if Novak would go back to 1 if he won - obviously a huge fan  This type used to cheer for Tim and Greg's opponents at Wimbledon too. Saddos.

Think it was block 416, tm15 - not lower tier, but in the corner and had a good view. Shame I didn't see you or any othet forummers, but it was all a bit of a rush job!

edit: nope, just looked at my ticket and it was block 408, row L.

Probably doing it because they don't like Andy. But all the great Andy supporters drowned them out!

I've heard exactly the same nonsense against Tim and Greg at Wimbledon though - just a certain type being desperate to be different.

But yes, Andy fans were in great voice last night. The lady behind me tapped me on the shoulder at the end and said it was the first time she'd every cheered out loud, because she is quite shy, but she's had a great time. Well, amazing Andy gave us so much to scream about, just had to be done!:)

The man next to me was British. Before the match started he asked me who I was supporting which given I was wearing a BacktheBrits tshirt was a bit of a silly question. But he was supporting Djokovic and shouted loudly all through yhe first set. I and everyone else around us drowned him out though. I was worried it might be a bit lacking in atmosphere in the upper tier but needn't have, lots of people were shouting and supporting Andy very loudly up there. There were pockets of Serbian fans dotted around the arena but they were well outnumbered

You were in the same block as me RB.I was on row A. I heard you shouting and even got my binoculars out to look for you. Silly me never thought to look behind me! The acoustics made it sound like you were below me though. I stayed in my seat for ages after the match so must have missed you on the way out too.

Just going back to the day of the semis .... the evening session was a real damp squib but having been to the afternoon session we weren't too upset ;)

The situation with trying to get back in though was a nightmare. Luckily I am an O2 customer so Gill and I were able to get through via the priority line so once we had got out and walked all around the outside of the arena we more or less got straight back in. When we did, the arena was EMPTY and I mean a handful of people in there, and we had been to grab a sandwich at subway first, anticipating that they would delay the start of the evening session. They did delay by an hour but when Jamie and Bruno started there was hardly anyone in there. People were just starting to come back in numbers as the match was finishing. I felt so sorry for them, what a way to have to play such an important semi final match! They really never not going and I'm sure that situation didn't help. people were coming in through the whole match and I'm not just talking about change of ends ....

For future reference, you don't need to go outside and walk around. I was caught out like that a couple of years ago. When you go out from your seat and back onto the concourse where the toilets/food are, head around to the right towards where the main entrance is. It's perfectly possible to go out that way as did hordes of other people last week.

That's where we went- but the main entrance was queued out the door with ticket holders who'd only come for the evening session. We spent almost as long queuing to get back in as the 2nd semi lasted! Anyway, we still had a great day.
