We never get anything in the LTA ballot but did the queue this year and got two days of great tennis out of it. Including Murray on centre court from the second row on the first Tuesday. We will be queueing again next year :)

After managing to convince my mum to join the queue and camp overnight, very happy to say we scored centre court tickets for Super Saturday. The atmosphere was amazing and looks like my mum is up for camping again next year! She's already looking at tents and getting prepared so I think she enjoyed the camping part of it which is a shock! :yahoo:

Was thinking about this and wondering when we'd have to be in the queue for centre on Monday. Last year 1pm Sunday narrowly got us court 1. Apparently some there to see fed turned up before queue began. I imagine it will be same for Murray next year. Just can't think when we'd need to be there

I've never pre-queued, so forgive my likely stupid question, but where do you pre queue and how do you sort sleeping arrangements? We joined the queue when set up so camped so I'm not sure. Also Saturday morning is even earlier than I thought! Obviously I'm unrealistic lol

I actually don't mind the camping. There are decent loo facilities and I had a little trangia for evening meals and cups of tea. Luckily we weren't there for many of the very rainy days and so left before the place became too muddy. It's a good way of saving money not paying for hotels lol.

Yeah, I'm probably just panicking. Hopefully afternoon will be fine.

JerryD - the pre queue is just on the pavement outside the park. It's where the queue always used to be before they opened the park for camping. I've never camped before but followed viewfromtheQ closely in Twitter this year for the inside info.

Yeah we did last year. We made our own food on the trangia and took plenty with us so we only left the campsite to go into wimbie. Tougher in the pre queue but I guess just take it in turns to go and buy food. Doubt you can use the trangia on the pavement.

Yellowlivi

The ones with two layers are. I'll give it a think.

Will also be getting a pop up tent that can be used on the pavement as well as in the park. I'm not sure if the pre queue is even stewarded .... it may be just a case of agreeing with those around re: leaving the queue to get food. Will just have to see. I don't even like camping! Must be mad doing it for 2 nights just to see Andy walk out as champ ... but will be worth it!

JerryD
08-09-2016, 23:56
My friend hates camping too. She says (maybe even on this thread) that o oh wimbie could coax her. Some of the pop up ones are only one layer which means they aren't very waterproof so I'm looking for a two layer one. I think we will be doing 3 nights (sat, sun and mon). It will be worth it. Yeah I guess so. Well we will probably see you there. As well as next weekend of course!

04-12-2016, 15:22
Yes you are right in a lot of ways. I know loads of people who are only too happy to go to Wimbledon with me but are not interested in going to any other events, even if they are in the London area and I can get to all the venues (in London) fairly easily.

Caro
12-12-2016, 12:59
Rafa and Roger being absent from the WTF definitely affected tickets sales. There were tickets for the semis going for less than original price on viagogo a few days before plus there were also tickets at the box office. Can't remember that happening before. But I don't believe it will affect Wimby as much if at all. As others have said, it's just the fact that it is Wimby. Non tennis fans even want to go.

themass15
12-12-2016, 13:18
Defo affected WTF. I bought a Viagogo ticket at just over cost. That would never have happened if Roger and Rafa had been playing. Also last year 9 sessions at least were sold out before tournament started. Other than Andy the others at WTF do not have the same pulling power.

Guerkins2
13-12-2016, 16:00
People see Wimbledon as a day out, whether or not they are tennis fans. Also I think it's one of those places people like to say they've been to. Tbh it is better value than the O2 although of course at O2 you are guaranteed to see more highly ranked players

themass15
13-12-2016, 16:30
Depends what day you go to Wimbledon. On a lot of the courts you get 4 matches the first few days.

What day you go if you can't queue and can't afford debenture tickets is in the lap of the gods. Whereas at least with the O2 you can actually make a choice.

Very true, although IMO Wimbledon is better value whatever day you go. It's less money than Queens or WTF, you get to see more matches and men's are best of 5 rather than best of 3. No brainer for me. Don't get me wrong, I love WTF (especially THAT semi this year!) but the latter rounds are mega expensive for 1 singles and 1 doubles match. Andy's match was worth every penny to me but the Djokovic one .... not so much ;)

themass15
14-12-2016, 15:23
I agree Caro. If you get a good day at Wimbledon it is just amazing. Much better value especially the first few days; as long as it doesn't rain, you can't beat it.

Slightly straying off the Wimbledon piste here but I thoroughly enjoyed Paris this year. Great value for money. One main court with the really big name matches and 2 smaller courts (one little more than a leisure centre hall) with doubles and less interesting singles matches eg Karlovic. So there were 6 matches a day on the main court from 11am to late at night. Loved it!!!

Absolutely the best value for money. Went for 3 years on the trot and was lucky enough to see Andy twice. The first time he came back on the same Eurostar train as me! Haven't been able to go the last 2 years as we normally go away around that time and I would rather miss Paris than WTF, given I live so close to London.

Sounds like a plan Caro, tbh part of me is expecting yellowlivi to chicken out before then ;) in the months before then I will have camped in the Cairngorms in early spring, stayed in a Bothy on a wood shelf, slept in a log cabin in the jungles and camped 3 nights in the Inca trail. Camping won't bother me by then, it will be warm and luxurious by comparison.

I feel a little Selfish going though as I always run the 10k race for life in Sefton park in Liverpool and this year it clashes with that first weekend. But I am going to search for another race I can enter instead, lots of them are on while I'm away so I may have to travel to one. Not that I can usually drive afterwards. 10k on a treadmill is easy but on stoney uneven ground plays havoc with my knees. So maybe i will get KevD to chauffeur if I have to trave far to one x

Luckily a hard floor is meant robbery good for a bad back. I might benefit from camping on the pavement. I have camped in snow before so it's got to be better than that.

You can't camp on the pavement, you have to set up your tent in the official queue which is on grass.

We camped on the grass last year, I think he means the overnight wait for the queue to open. From Saturday til the Sunday morning. Later than that and there won't be a chance of centre tickets. Last year only just managed court 1 (people after us got court 2), that was queuing early on Sunday. In the end we decided not to get the court 1 and got court two instead as there were matches we preferred on it.

It was me who started the pavement queue rumour ... I thought they wouldn't let you in to the park until Sunday morning. I remember seeing it on TV a couple of years ago, people on the pavement like in years gone by when the whole queue used to be on the pavement. Sorry if I got it wrong :shamed:

I will give them a call to see but I was told it was this Friday; sometimes they send a small amount before the main ballot goes out. However, thought that was normally for Court No 3

themass15

Called Wimbledon. The only tickets that have gone out are those for Court No. 2 (all balloted, capacity 4,000) and Court No. 3 (max 1,000) as half the stadium is unreserved seating. The lady I spoke to would not tell me when the first main ballot is going out, but from the conversation I had a couple of weeks ago with someone else, I think it is likely to be this Friday. The message on their phone says mid February onwards.

Re - the pavement theories - it seems there is no camping on the golf course until the queue opens at 8am on Sunday. But it also seems that if you want to be in with a chance of cc on day 1 you have to be there to queue for the queue on Saturday. So I guess this means sitting on the pavement near the golf course beforehand. It seems confusing. I've only camped from the Sunday. Is anyone else going to attempt to get cc day 1? Is so what are your plans for the Saturday?

Yeah by Sunday afternoon we hope to be pitched up in the park :) though they may not have let us peg in yet. It was about 3/4 last year when Berdy was mooching about the tents in the queue and we got a photo with him. So it will a (hopefully) dry grass party.

Hey Kar, what I would say is don't be worried at all. There are so many people there on their own and in groups, it's easy to find people to chat to. Last year we made friend with one neighbour who gave us her rent when she left and sat hearing about another's crush on Lopez the next day. It is fun, there is a great atmosphere and people their are tennis fans too. So you're not really on your own.

Second it is vey light camping. You just need a small two man tent, not like a camping holiday. In fact they have rules about bigger ones. A roll mat and a sleeping bag and change of clothes etc. You aren't allowed bbqs but we did take a small camping stove for making tea and packet pasta. There are places on the golf course you camp on that sell food and drinks. You can even order takeout and have it delivered to the main gate. There are a lot of people and floodlights and stewards so if always feels safe. Last year we took an evening walk around the lake and didn't feel nervous.

The whole thing is ran so well and there is so much help on hand. There are toilet blocks with really loos and sinks not nasty portaloos. So you can have a place to wash your face etc. I enjoyed it, the buzz of it. Other than the Aussie talking politics in the queue in the morning lol. The left luggage to store you're tent and bags is easy too.

It is a great way to get tickets. Last year we camped on Sunday arriving about 1pm. Arriving at that time we had the choice of court 1 or 2 but picked 2 because there were better matches. On Monday evening we left the grounds at about 5 because I was following the queue in twitter and realised there was still a chance of centre. We ran back and rejoined the queue and got centre!! We were in the second row to watch murrays match. It was so worth it!

One thing for queueing though bring cash as when you get to the front to buy your tickets it's cash only. You can leave the queue for meals etc but don't be gone long and wait until you get your queue card before you do.

Hope that helps

I've never dared leave my tent for long - I've seen them remove unoccupied tents from the queue. And it's a pity they don't have showers. But otherwise, it's fine. I've certainly not felt worried about being on my own. When I had to move my car and the queue was moved on whilst I was away, two very nice Dutch girls who were immediately behind me in the queue moved all my stuff for me.

Yeah to be honest we didn't leave the queue at all last year except to go into the grounds. We camped two nights and travelled home after Tuesdays tennis. I cooked dinner on the trangia and we carried food into the queue so once we got there we didn't have to leave :)
We got a lift down last year and trained it back, where did you park Linda? On the golf course?

Hi Karen, the ballot for No 2 and 3 courts went out on 3 Feb. Years ago the ballot was sent out end Jan but has gradually got later. Overseas applicants are notified by email and have to turn up in person to collect their tickets. The LTA also advised successful people by email. Hope this helps.

It's strange how that happens. I actually felt a bit guilty when I got Centre Court tickets the very first time I ever applied 20 years ago, as I knew someone who had applied for years and years and got nothing. Well done Lesleyann if you got men's semis. Absolutely the best day to go. Play starts at 1 p.m. You can pre-book parking. I have never taken my car but car parks 6 and 7 are probably best to aim for. Some private households rent out their drives but I am not sure how you would go about reserving that. I would aim to get there around 11.30 a.m. The traffic in the area should not be so bad by that stage of the tournament. There will be more ballots so anyone who has not been successful should not give up hope, although I understand the chance of getting them is about 1 in 5.

Aww thanks, my worry was traffic as iv no idea what to expect but that's a great help thanks. I planned on prebooking car park so that really helps thanks. We did a driveway last year but ended up further away than we expected.
I'm so excited I don't know how I will cope waiting until July

I never pre-book parking and have never had trouble getting into the car park. (Although for those camping, it is better to go for one of the private front garden car parks so you don't have to move your car at the end of the day and again in the morning.)

I've been given the chance to stay at any hotel, in London, for free. But, I don't know if I'll do it during Wimbledon or leave it until our next DC tie after Rouen.

So one of my friends just messaged me, thanking me for letting her know about the Wimbledon ballot (how to do it, timings etc.). She only just got tickets for the Mens final!

I applied at my address and my brothers and we got nothing. Only been successful once (court no.1) now for the past for years.

One day hopefully I'll get to go to centre court and watch a grand slam final somewhere.

Guess I still have the BTM ballot. Was unsuccessful last year so little hopes.

I have been a member of the LTA since 2000. Only once did I get a half way decent ticket and that was Court No. 1 in 2010 and we were lucky enough to see Federer. The only times I got Court 1 on the final Sunday and Court No. 2 on the 2nd Wednesday (only dubs).

I know the tickets are non transferable but as you said, its a shame you can't share with like minded fans!! We will just queue and hope that my mum and aunt let us sit in their seats for a couple of games! Think it will hard to get them shifted once they get settled into the match but they have promised lol!! All the best!!

It has got much harder over the years. When it first started in 2007 it was easy. For the first 2 years I got tickets whenever I wanted, including the men's final in 2007/2008. Everyone knows about it now, so a few years ago I started going for Court No. 3 instead, well that worked until last year. Won't give on it, but as I have slow broadband, realise the chance of me getting any more tickets that way is extremely remote.

Silverdee
14-03-2017, 16:13
I've just given in and placed an order today for fast broadband at home. For the LTA sale yesterday, for fast broadband, I went down to the local library to use my IPad there. Couldn't believe how successful I was, tickets for myself and Tennisfan for all 3 days (she got 5 tickets to put into the forum pot) so bit the bullet and upgrading now so ready for any future ticket sales.

Believe overseas emails are sent out the same time as the UK ballots.

Thanks, I believe you are correct. Unfortunately, the e-mail confirmation received when I applied stated that
"You will be contacted by the end of March 2017 if you are successful in the main ballot. Returned or declined tickets are continually re-balloted so, if you are unsuccessful in the main ballot, your application will be reconsidered in subsequent, smaller ballots."

I don't understand this wording as it seems obvious that the first and even second ballots have gone out and it is only mid-March. A little annoying as even if successful, travel still needs to be booked. I have heard that some overseas applicants have been successful though.

Will try again next year. Gotta be in it to win it. :)

themass15
14-03-2017, 18:09
Maybe they don't send out emails to overseas applicants after end March as people need to arrange their travel and hotels. In the UK they go up to mid June, could be later this year as the tournament starts a week later.

Hi Everyone - longtime lurker - first time poster!!

Does anyone know if there is something up with the LTA ballots. I got an email from the yesterday about the btm ballot saying I had been successful - clicked through and it was the men's final centre court - uber cuffed because I was one of those unlucky souls who court 1 tickets for that day last year where there was no outside tennis and we got a full refund - a so I felt it was karma - particularly as I flew over from Dublin for the tennis.

Anyhow - I paid for the tickets yesterday afternoon and received payment confirmation emails but this morning when I got up I had a second email from the LTA saying I had been successful in the ballot - do they normally send multiple emails? I have emailed them to ask but my fear is there has been a massive f up and I didn't win any tickets despite what my two emails said. There was also nothing on the LTA website in the ballot section to say I had bought my allocation - it almost seems like I could have paid for them again...the money has definitely gone from my account!

If anyone has any wisdom i'd appreciate it! Thanks, Siobhan

I saved off one of the posts with Q info from previous years:-

Hello folks. I'm starting to see a few questions about the queue, so thought I'd post some info about waiting times in the last few years. I made this list once I realised I'll probably have to queue this year. Info is compiled from tweets on the excellent Wimbledon Queue twitter feed (mentioned by Caro above). The times are approximate, and of course they shouldn't be used as a crystal ball for this year - things can vary hugely depending on schedule and forecast.

There may also be the odd mistake and typo as there were so many numbers/dates/times to type up. But I hope you find it helpful.

Wimbledon 2013

(Mon 24th June – Sun 7th July – In first week, Fed, Murray, Tsonga, Nadal on odd days, Djoko on evens. Nadal beaten on first Monday, Fed and Tsonga out by Wednesday)

Fed and Nadal’s early departures have huge impact) 500 at 2.30pm on Thurs 27th, 800 at 6.24pm on Thurs 27th (would’ve probably got to 700 at midday if Fed/Raf still in), 900-1000 at 5am on Fri 28th (very slow, may have also been a bad forecast)
Day Six (Sat 29th June) – 500 at 8.30am on Fri 28th, 800 at 1.50pm on Fri 28th, 1500 at 7pm on Fri 28th

Later matches rained off this day.
Day Eight (Tues 1st July – Womens QFs but with delayed matches from Nadal and Fed) – 600 by 9pm on Mon 30th (some for Weds), 800 by 11pm on Mon 30th, 900 by 5am on Tues 1st, 2000 by 7am on Tues 1st.

Day Four (Thurs 2nd July) – 500 by about 11am on Weds 1st, 1000 by about 7pm on Weds 1st, 1500 by about 3.40am on Thurs 2nd, GPs by 2pm on Thurs 2nd (really slow day for ground passes – people possibly put off by heat on previous two days, as well as rain storms on the Thursday morning)

A warning was put out that the queue was so full, people shouldn’t bother coming in the afternoon.
Day Six (Sat 4th July) – 500 by 7am on Fri 3rd, 1000 by 9.30am on Fri 3rd, 1500 by 2.20pm on Fri 3rd, didn’t recommend camping for GPs – warned people to stay away, GPs gone by 6.20am

Day Eight (Tues 7th July) – 500 by 8pm on Mon 6th (though as many as half were waiting for mens QFs on Weds), 1000 by about 5am on Tues 7th. Definitely a lot of people were in the queue waiting for mens quarters - someone got Centre Court for the womens QFs at 5.15am on Tues 7th.
Day Nine (Weds 8th July) – 500 by about 5.30am on Tues 7th (670 by 10.30am), 820 by 4.45pm on Tues 7th, 900 by 6.20pm on Tues 7th, 1000 by 10pm on Tues 7th.

I've emailed them for now and if I haven't heard by Monday I will give them a ring - a double notification email just seems weird....

Men's final is very exciting though - it will make for a different experience that's last year ear - sitting in the rain in court 1 watching the screen seeing them put up and take down the net on multiple occasions and only a smidge of tennis in 8 hours!!

If on schedule likely to be a combination of Juniors/ over 35's and possibly Mixed . 3 matches last year http://www.wimbledon.com/en_GB/scores/results/day20.html You would also have access to the outside courts but not Court 3.
