:crying: Poor Cam - he didn't have much time to recover between the Auckland final and today's match. I see Sandgren lost too.

I didn't think Cam played badly, and many times he played very well. Unfortunately, I think (as Alis has mentioned) that he was probably tired from reaching his 1st ever ATP Final and the 'stress' that brings in wanting to win it. He didn't have much time to get down to Melbourne for practice and to acclimatise.

We know (through DC) just how much he's willing to fight it out over 5 sets (if need be) but I think also that Taylor Fritz was keen to 'level the score' having lost to Cam last week. And I think Fritz played the clutch points better which ensured he won.

I hope the pair of them, having traded blows, can now do some damage in the Doubles Draw.
As to singles, I think it may take a bit longer but I'm sure Cam will notch up a title or two soon.

Oh dear. That was not Cam's finest hour. He really was woeful, sending balls sailing over the base line or dumping them in the net time after time. Couldn't take advantage of any opportunity he got. Lost his cool, threw racquet on a number of occasions. Best to move on quickly from this one, Cam. Lost in 2 sets to a qualifier.

Not having seen the match, I agree that is a disappointing result, but I would say not really too unexpected. Cam was coming in cold to his first clay tourney of the year against a local clay courter who had come through qualifying. Hopefully Cam has got rid of his frustrations and will be better prepared for Rio next week.

Yes I think he did really fight, especially after losing the first set but just didn’t have the self belief/ when he was in a winning position. He sent a lot long or into the net at those points. He was just brilliant in Marbella wasn’t he?

Very pleased for Cam today. I always worry about him finishing off sets but, although I was only following live scores, he seemed to cope well in the latter stages of the final set.
Apparently that is his only consecutive win in ATP main draws since July last year so that is encouraging news for him.

Rublev predictably was too strong for Cam winning 6-2 6-1. Cam did have a break back point once but just not enough.

His game just doesn't match up well against some players. I guess Cam likes to work a point, move the ball around. If he plays a mirror image, or some-one who plays a strong power game, he's going to struggle.

Tiafoe pressed reset and took first 3 games, Cam next 3 but Tiafoe took set 2 6-3. I did not watch all of last set but Cam got the break for 6-4. Well done Cam! He plays Seb Korda in semi.
