View Full Version : Davis Cup - Rest of the World. 2016 onwards.
What an amazing match! Kudos to both guys - they gave it their all. I'm delighted for Delpo - seemingly, it's the first time he's come back from two sets down and what a time to do it! I do feel sorry for Cilic, even though he is not one of my favourites. Still all to play for - it would be amazing if Karlovic could pull it off for his country at the ripe old age of 37. Who on earth would want to change the format of the Davis Cup? It has everything - please leave it alone!!!!

And to think they're suggesting a neutral venue. You would never get an atmosphere like this
First set to Delbonis :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

Interesting tweet from Jamie yesterday on the amazing atmosphere in the DC final. Judging by the 3 sad faces after his comment,I presume he is being sarcastic?

Can't see Ivo doing a Delpo and pulling this one out of the bag. Cmon Delbonis, finish it off
Cilic looks gutted at the moment

Certainly great atmosphere and even considering a neutral venue in the future seems misplaced, Delbonis seemingly in control and looking good for Argentina! Whilst not counting Karlovic out think it'll be difficult to emulate Delpo's fightback.
Cilic looks gutted at the momentWouldn't you be?

Come on Delbonis. Went off him when I saw him beat Andy earlier this year but then saw a fantastic match at Wimbledon between him and Fognini. Fognini came through but warmed to him after that. Don't know why but I have soft spot for the Argies.
Delbonis wins the match and the Davis Cup for Argentina - congratulations to the team:yahoo::yahoo: :cheer::cheer::cheer::bravo::trophy:

Well done Argentina, so pleased for them and especially for Delpo. Lovely for him to get some major silverware in his comeback year

Fantastic Davis Cup Tie and Argentina deserved their first win.
Delpo will be very, very dangerous next year - he has his tail up and all to play for - watch out the top ten!!
This is all so emotional! So pleased for Argentina, but still feel for Croatia. We won it last year for the first time from forever ago, and Argentina won it for the first time ever this year. Delbonis was amazing. That turned out to be a real bonus weekend of tennis.

Pat you have said it all, nothing to add:thumbup:
Davis Cup is something else - what a fabulous showcase for tennis! Delbonis may never play a match like that again but it doesn't matter. He sealed the deal for his country - fantastic!! Well done to all the Argentine team and commiserations to Croatia - so near and yet so far!

Amazing effort by Delpo and Delbo :bravo: Congrats to the Argies on a very special and deserved victory. I'm pleased such an epic battle decided who had the honour of being listed on the trophy after Andy and team GB. Not handing it over easily. Commiserations to Croatia.

Just amazing DC tie. Argentina were so near to going out at 5-5 in the third set. Somehow Delpo turned it around and the rest is history. Richly deserved. A worthy team to take over from what GB achieved last year.

Very pleased that Argentina won - some terrific play over the weekend - and I agree with others that a neutral venue for the final would be a big mistake as the atmosphere there was incredible although obviously difficult for the umpires!

On Delpo's effort "His comeback is the comeback of history, his comeback today was the comeback of the Davis Cup," said Argentina captain Daniel Orsanic......
hmmm, beg to differ, that honour stays with Wardy the Warrior's victory against Isner, ....but still, bravo JMDP, Wardy would approve
Does anyone know why Pico wasn't part of he Argentine team - is he injured?

Maybe his ranking was too low? I think he was out with injury not too long ago so dropped a bit - now 65?
Maybe but then Mayer is down at 139 and who was their fourth player?
After watching Strictly, I thought Croatia had won it. But, when I looked it up I found del Potro had levelled the tie by coming back from two sets down to beat Cilic. I later found out that Delbonis had beaten Karlovic in straight sets to win the trophy.

He didn't play in September either - I think he was injured then so maybe he's not back playing much yet.

Miss Pico too, but his heroics have normally come on clay.

I watched the Strictly results then watched the end of the DC tie.
Had to wait till this morning to watch my recording of the last match. Great win. Delighted for Argentina. Pleased Delbonis was able to clinch it. Experience told and Karlovic must have been VERY nervous.

It is well worth a watch; especially Delpo v Cilic.
I only got to watch one complete match .... the DelPo v Cilic one. Think I chose well ;) Saw the end of the Delbonis match to see Argentina win the trophy ... OUR trophy! It was really strange watching another team holding it aloft! Seriously though, what a fantastic comeback from DelPo, 2 games from losing. Brilliant stuff!

Well done Argentina ! So happy for Delpo. I think he could well prove to be a pain in the butt from now on but can't help admiring him for the way he has soldiered on when at one point he really looked like a busted flush. Great result for them
So glad that Argentina won as they beat us in the semis. :trophy: What a treat to get such good tennis matches to finish the season.
I will be very surprised if Delpo doesn't finish in the top 10 next season. I'm delighted for him but he certainly will be a fearsome opponent.

That 5 set match yesterday was one of the best matches this year. And lovely to watch it without being stressed out. I will always be on the side of Delpo unless he is playing Andy.
Delpo has played some amazing matches this year - the Olympic final, the DC semi v Andy and yesterday's match v Cilic. An amazing testament to tenacity and determination - well done Delpo!
Watched most of the last 3 matches of the tie. I was really sure Argentina would get the doubles. When lost I told myself it was fine because they'd win the next two, but I wasn't sure inbjeibed it. With Delpo past injuries I wouldn't have predicted his comeback. He was amazing, and playing with a broken finger after a while too! They deserved the trophy. There were some great matches and I was so invested I nearly cried when they gave their interviews after the victory. Another weekend getting the result I wanted :) great end to the season.
