Safe travels everyone! Hope you have all prepared for the cold weather and have a great time in Ottawa! Cheer loudly for those of us staying at home and we will hope for the next one to be nearer home in April - fingers crossed. I will be watching for the Japan v France scores - that result will be known before the Sunday GB matches start as Japan is 14 hours ahead of Ottawa.
I will be keeping one eye on Japan too, now the Aussie is over I'm counting down the days to the Davis. I'm certain the guys can do it with support from the fans there. Have an amazing time all who are going, sad to miss it, first time in a while but i know you guys will shout for all of us at home. I think France will be too strong for Japan even without monfils and tsonga!

Just had BATS email, they have 34 going, just a few more than us!
I suspect that the numbers went up after they sent and email about lack of number at past ties. There seems to be a number of murrynators going too, and a lot of the army. So hopefully with them you guys can all make it feel like a home match for our guys, like we did in Serbia!
Very slightly off topic but that email also mentioned the bats weekend in March are you going Roy?

It's another reason I'm jealous, I love the cold and the snow. One of our best holidays was Budapest during the big freeze it was -16 but we just bundled up and loved it. It got colder late at night but that's what thermals are for :) at least the tennis will be inside in the warm. I'd take the cold over the Serbian monsoon :)
Had a good walk round, sightseeing, this morning. Was wrapped up nice and warm but my face is now bright red from the cold. Had a mid morning snack of a 'beaver tail'. Was snowing on my way back. Wondering whether to venture out again for lunch or just make do with the hotel's café.

Suppose we are all different but really don't look forward to winter nowadays though when younger you usually have a different view (though suppose not been too severe lately) Wasn't in Serbia but did experience torrential rain in Naples and would prefer that to heavy snow lol. Mind you it wasn't the only reason I was not going but wouldn't find it appealing at this time of year in any case.

Kept missing SG but caught her in the last set!ye shes stood beside podgy, balding ranga bloke ;)
I kept looking down or grabbing a drink and seeing others posting about seeing her but missing it myself. Thought I was going mad lol
Good performance from all the supporters in Ottawa. You did your best for Kyle. You all need a good gargle now in the form of a drink or two to lubricate your vocal chords to prepare them for the doubles tomorrow! You will be needed. Enjoy a good supper and CHEERS all!:wino::GBflag:

I think I might have put my post on the wrong thread. Sorry. Anyway we had a great time. Glad it is 1-1 as it makes the dubs all the more exciting. The British supporters put the Canucks to shame. Incredible stuff!

After we've BEAN to France will Roy be known as FLAGeolet Roy?
I will.need another small flag after losing it
If you saw Roy and Hawkeye you must have seen me too as I was sitting between them! They didn't lay on extra buses as we had to wait ages for one this evening. Got really cold. Now back at the hotel & warming up nicely with a glass of wine.

There's such a vast store of knowledge on the forum: can anyone tell me how the order of play is decided for Day 3? I've been searching google for the info but can't find it. :thanks:

Thank you, Sallydaisy. I was having a senior moment thinking that it was #1 v #2 and wondering which of the #1s would be first out on court.

When the tie started there was just the barmy army one on the railsings then the mirrynators one appeared then bats, kept looking out for the forum one. Saw a picture of it on Facebook though :) you guys should put it on the railings :) get some more recognition for the amff :) the British fans were all great and loud. We'll need then in the doubles today. Sorry that Roy lost his little flag, that thing was a camera magnet!!!

Aw! Lost: One very well waved little GB flag. If found please return to its owner roytennisfan, flag-waver-in-chief for AMFF, Ottawa, Canada. Reward: another Irish coffee for both the owner and the finder.

I think she was hard to spot because roy is on his feet constantly & the camera angle side on is not picking linda up. I did see her fleetingly once or twice.
For the cameras to be focussing on the Brit supporters often, we need lots of reasons for them to do so...ie: great play today from Jamie and Dom! Go boys!!

Yes but today I might sit with Helen who is 4 rows behind us, as there are 4 unoccupied seats alongside her! Plenty of room for my big flag, and will give Roy more room for his big flag too. Incidentally, the seats are the comfiest I've ever come across at a DC tie.

The arena does look nice....how would you compare the atmosphere to,say,Glasgow or Brum? It didn't look completely full either. How many does it hold? There seemed to be a whole area blocked off at one end of the court.

The cameraman was camped by us, they still have the barmy army drummer the row in front of us and murraynators Joan behind us with her bongo so they probably will still show a bit, did they not show a view from the gangway the other side of the brits block at all?

The sides are great but the ends are a long way back so I reckon they have blocked seats with a poor view

Just drier would have been enough lol. Are you allowed coins and pens and tissues :) looking forward to seeing you guys and all the flags again today. I wonder if the absence of Roy's little flag will mean less coverage. Hopefully not!

Big flag doing a great job too Roy. I've managed to see you all...you are all doing great...as usual! Go AMFFer's.
Commies have been praising your input supporters! Well done! Lots of pictures of you.
Doing a great job! Canada got loud for a bit but the Brits seems to out shout them again! Saw the war of the flags going on when a Canadian sign appeared over the top of the murrynators flag but in their words they "won in the end" lol
Brit fans are truly amazing - you really would not know they were in the minority.
We are good at making away ties seem like home ties. The Beeb said it themselves yesterday
Great support from the fans again. Saw the forumers a lot. Think the camera loves Roy!

Completely first class job from our supporters. For once the commies got it right in their praise for the fantastic job you all did. Lots of screen time for the forummers, hope you've got it recording at home. My favourite bit was at the last changeover and seeing Roy and Hawkeye going crazy. Enjoy the celebrations but save some energy for tomorrow

Had a whale of a time, nobody could tell I've been a bit under the weather and had a complete rest day on Thursday. The forum got great seats between barmy army and murraynators
P.S. In Ottawa's Byward Market tonight we will be continuing the grand AMFF tradition of a post-doubles get together for all the members present, hopefully including RL and her daughter.

Restaurant very appropriately located on Murray street
Roy means Mezzanotte. Definitely nothing to do with Nole! Food was lovely. Wine prices ridiculous - cheapest bottle about $50 - for a very ordinary wine that is about £5 in Tesco. Maureen and I just had one bottle between us!

Snowing right now here in Sandy Hill.
Found this on Getty - http://www.gettyimages.co.uk/license/633722116P.S. The guy in the black jumper on the right of our row in that photo is the one that kept shouting out in a gruff Scots accent, not little old me! He loved to be last man shouting.
Walked to church & back in the snow this morning.

SG moved it before the end. The Barmy Army were a bit possessive of the front wall.

I noticed they had two up! As if one massive one isn't enough. Murrynators one was big too :) great to see them all though.

Really enjoyed today except for Denis hitting the umpire in they eye. What a shocker that was. But other than that it was great. Glad Vashy won his singles and that the final match was live. Good experience for Denis but he is just not ready for this level however he did good. Well done to Team GB and hope they do well against France.
Met up with Linda and Helen after and we had a lovely Indian meal followed by gelato then they came back to my airbnb apartment for tea and chat. Going back home tomorrow. Great experience for Katie and me.
