Have a great time. If you go to the museum in Dunblane and they have any Golden Postbox fridge magnets could you grab one for me. They were out of them when Patlowe and I went, and I still covert one. The same applies to anyone visiting the museum. Thanks:-)

Hi Jerry

Not been on here for a long time, lots going on recently so not had time unfortunately. Got a wee text from Hawkeye today (thanks Ronnie!) asking about menu choices. I'm afraid it's looking like I won't be able to go although I won't know for definite till tomorrow. Sadly, that ruddy Brexit (grrr I HATE Brexit) has to a large degree taken over our lives at work and of course there are no extra staff to deal with the mess its creating! I am the only expert on some EU legislation so its down to me to deal with it and its been scheduled for Friday through to Tuesday. Am waiting to see if it might be moved back a bit but looking unlikely.

Will pop back on tomorrow to let you know for definite.

Thanks

Susan

Here we are...the long-awaited weekend in Newcastle is nearly here! Am I correct in thinking we had decided to meet up in the bar area of the Celedonian for our pre-meal chit-chat and prosecco (or whatever)? Really looking forward to seeing you all. Safe journeys everyone. :yak::wino:

Hi all

A daft question, but I am an antisocial soul, and rarely do big groups. Are jeans and a Murray T shirt going to be suitable attire for the meal? Can I also tell/remind people that my hearing aids don't work particularly effectively when there is a lot of back ground noise, so don't take it personally if I seem to ignore you.....!!!

hfwardhouse
21-09-2017, 09:07
I would say jeans are ok - and it's up to you what you wear on top but I wasn't planning on going with the murray branding this trip as it's not DC - it's different when we're all meeting after a match, I'm planning on being a bit dressy ....

Sallydaisy
21-09-2017, 09:31
Weirdly I automatically pulled my DC cheering kit (t's, hat, flags, pompoms) out of the cupboard last night ... and then this morning looked at it and told myself off for being daft!

I think we'll all recognise each other in 'mufti' or gold lame or whatever going out to Pizza Express attire you choose.

In that case it's muddy boots, a bag full of dog treats, a dog lead in one hand, and jeans covered in paw marks....... (or perhaps not...........!!!):-)

Have spoken to a few members on our Facebook chat & we thought it might be a nice idea to make a short video with a get well message for andy. I can send it to judy via private message on twitter and ask her to kindly pass it on to him. Can either do it in afternoon in hotel bar or wait till after meal.

Irritatingly pizza express have finally got back about the menu choices, their menu has now changed for the autumn. Even though it only changed this week they insist that they don't have the ingredients to make mains that are no longer on the menu.

They have removed the most popular menu choices, pollo Milanese (kev's choice), seafood rigatoni and risotto primavera, (my choice :( ) I will post a link to the new menu for those of you whose mains need to be changed and I will list the names here.

Gill, angie, patlowe, supergran, lovetennis, passionada, maud, sallydaisy, murrayA1, Teresa, stell, Tina, Jan62, Linda, Jane (Joyce's guest).

It's annoying, I've tried moaning at them, all they can do is apologise and say we should have been notified of the impending menu change as they knew two weeks ago though sadly that doesn't help. Apparently the seafood rigatoni has been replaced with bolognese rigatoni and the rissoto primavera by a vegetarian broad bean rigatoni.

For everyone listed except Gill, it is only your main you need to change. For Gill - sorry - you also need a new starter. I know it's a royal pain in the bum. I've argued and pushed but they won't budge. I hope this doesn't upset anyone's night.

Tube was easy peasy!
It's well signposted from the station, machines simple to use (contactless as not all took coins) and it's all very easy. Unfortunately it was raining when I arrived but has now cleared up to a nice, but chilly, evening.

erm, that's it for me tonight.

See you's tomorrow pet.

Advanced warning the metro is a bit fouled up this morning. There is a technical problem on both lines, and a bus replacement service on other parts. Will update as I find out more. Might be better to come out by bus.

Teresa
23-09-2017, 06:51
Well I had a very nice day yesterday. Easy trip up, then went out to the coast. Went to Tynemouth and visited the abbey, then walked to South Shields via a very nice fish and chip shop (hence the feet dropping off bit). Then did the return ferry journey across the Tyne.

Met up with Pat and Linda in the evening.

After which I collapsed. I think it's a Roman Fort for me this morning.

I am in Room 121, although getting back into it might be problematic- the key card really has taken against me.......!!!

No sore heads here....The party didn't really continue at the Caledonian thanks to hotel incompetence. ...probably just as well really!!

Tina and I treated ourselves to an upgrade so enjoying the comfort of first class as we head north. Just over the Forth so a wee bit to go yet.

Had a blast. Great to see everyone and catch up. Huge well done to Jerry and Sally for sorting out things at Pizza Express. Great meal and lots of fun had by all. See you all next time!

It's gone awfully quiet, I do hope there are no sore heads this morning!

No, I was in church for the 8am service this morning! Then packed, said goodbye to those who were at breakfast, and got on the road. Just got home. Sorry I didn't see everyone this morning to say goodbye. But we had a great afternoon and evening; it was lovely to see everyone again. Now roll on February!

Thanks everyone for a great time in Newcastle. It meant a lot to be able to relax with such lovely friends. MurrayAOne, Juicy and I had a lovely journey home. Thanks to them for everything , to Jerry for organising meal, to Caro for her lovely words at dinner to Angiebabez for arranging the video and for the cards, letter and words of comfort from you. I have eaten, now gorging on cheese and crackers and a glass of wine. Tim coming after work tomorrow to stay the night.

Just home now. We spent some time in Newcastle exploring before we left. Took some photos and enjoyed some lunch. It really was lovely to see everyone. The meal was nice and the hotel was ok but for the whole bar mix up. I really enjoyed myself. Thank you for my card, wine and choccies. I am saving them for the weekend :)

I hope everyone had a good time, and look forward to seeing you all again in February. Maybe there will be more rusty trombones lol
:p
safe travels to anyone not home yet.

They told us to move from the bar area at 11pm to the lobby and the restaurant bar would still serve us. They said it would be 15 minutes but in the end it was an hour. No member of staff knew what to do. By the time the had switched the tills and were willing to take orders everyone has given up and didn't want a drink.

Safe home. Thanks to everyone for a lovely weekend. Good to see folks. Caught some folks at breakfast, which was nice. Enjoyed Newcastle this morning, visited the market on the quayside, walked on The Millennium Bridge, and then explored the Castle, more steps than you could imagine. Bumped into Jerry and Kev as we staggered up to the station.

Exhausted now - packed a lot into the weekend. Dog home tomorrow. :-)

SG did a great job in the video...and it obviously did the trick. Great idea from Angie to take the opportunity of our get-together to wish Andy well.

Safely home a short while ago. No travel woes, all went well. I had a fantastic weekend spent with a group of the most friendly, warm and caring people it is possible to know. Hence when we all go our separate ways I really do miss the company and camaraderie very much. It happens every time we meet...never fails. Can't wait until the next time!

Saw your video via Twitter and was wishing I'd been able to be there instead of being nearly 4000 miles away, so I thought I'd come in and say hello! Hope you all had a great time (it's pretty obvious that you did!) - I'll be coming back to the UK towards the end of this year and hoping to see some of you at a DC (or maybe even Fed Cup) tie or, failing that, some other tennis event or another reunion, sometime in 2018!

Lovely to hear from you Steven. Really miss seeing you at DC and it would be great to see you again.

Also to everyone else, we had a blast in Newcastle didn't we?! It was so good to see everyone. We should definitely arrange another one if DC weekends are sparse like they have been this year. If I end up not being able to go to Spain I will probably be trying to get one together in February ;)

Gr8 to meet up again with such lovely folks. Feel that over the years, acquaintances have developed into valued friendships.
Perhaps those of us who can't make it to Spain could meet up over the DC weekend - & cheer our boys on from home??X

I should say that hotel did tell me they had cut the price of some of our breakfasts to make up for the drink mishap, though she was going on who she remembered so they might not have done it for all. It was only £2 cheaper. She surprised me though as she gave us our drinks (2 wines and 1 pint), for free by way of apology. I'll take that :)

As well as having a much needed break and catching up with everyone we used it to celebrate kev's birthday as it's midweek, so it worked out well for us. Especially as we'd both scoffed so much at dinner we didn't have sore heads on Sunday and could enjoy another day of celebrating. I meant to get a group photo but forgot so if anyone has one I'd love to see it.

I guess the next meal will be up to someone with much better Spanish than the handful of words I know :) maybe we can get a group photo then. Before the tie so everyone is smiling lol

I am fascinated by it. Somewhere, sometime, somebody looked in a book of samples and thought that was a good idea. They must have had problems elsewhere in their lives. I actually find it faintly reassuring that there is a person out there with worst taste than me. I didn't think that was possible...........:-)

Ours was but worse as parts of it were stitched together. Think our room carpet was left overs stitched together. At least there wasn't a man sleeping in there like in the first room they gave us!

I wish I was... we got our key cards, when we went up there was a do not disturb sign so we checked the number again. It was right so we assumed the cleaners hadn't removed it. We unlocked the door and started to walk in, Kev in front. It was really dark and suddenly a guy shouted hello. He was in bed. We shouted sorry and left! Then got a new room. Worse for the sleeping man than for us though.

OMG! A friend and I once had a hotel room in Ostend with a full pilots outfit and some of his paperwork hanging in the wardrobe. We told reception who were distinctly uninterested. We made up some weird wonderful stories about what happened to its owner and how he might come looking for it in the dead of night - but after dark they didn't seem quite so funny lol. ( we were very young at the time)

It was a great weekend, really enjoyed seeing everyone again. Definitely a good idea to meet up if D.C. home ties are sparse in 2018. I am hoping to go to Spain but happy to do a Forum meet up at home instead if that proves impossible. I really value the friendliness of all the Forumites, you are a very special group of people.

Well we have been involved with the supply and fitting of floor coverings for more than 38 years.
I have to say that's going to take some beating, on the yuk steaks.
I was once asked why most Pub carpets were so garish and multi patterned, my reply was always the same.
If you ask the owner/manager they will tell you it looks nice and wears well (doesn't show the muck)
I always maintained the food was probably bad so that if anyone was sick on it you wouldn't see it.

But that is so gross.

Thanks to all for a great weekend in Newcastle (not that I saw much of the city!) It was really lovely to meet up with so many of you (including cardboard Andy!) Thanks especially to Jerry for organising the meal, it was an ideal venue, being so close to the hotel and we had the added advantage of being on our own down in the basement, where we could make the wee video for Andy and sing our hearts out!!
Here's to the next time!!
