View Full Version : Jay Clarke
The British Number 9 has been having a bad time.

It would be great if he received some positive messages.
I read about him and the racial abuse, yesterday. He now expects it to happen everyday, which is very sad to know.

Very sad :shamed: well done Jay for retweeting it.
Poor lad - no-one should have to put up with that.
There are so many morons on Twitter
Sadly, I don't do twitter or I would send Jay a positive message - I really hope others on here will.
Can someone do an online card for him? I have a feeling this young man is going to be the next great hope. I also have this gut feeling that in future years a certain AM might be the coach sitting in the players box. Might be fantasy, but I rather like the idea.
Nice for him to get a wildcard for Wimbledon.
He's only got a QWC, but better than nothing considering his ranking, age and the flack he's been getting recently.
oh, and he's got a dubs MD WC with Wilbomb.
Jay has just beaten Marchenko 6-4 7-6(6) at Ilkley :clap:

Jay looked just a little outclassed losing 3-6 4-6 but a good performance.
That's a shame. There was an article in The Telegraph suggesting they should have given him a WC for full Wimbledon not just QF. I am inclined to agree. The experience would be a great motivator for him.

Yes I agree, was at Ilkley today and good to see this promising young man. His opponent was a class above tho at present & made it through to the final, which I think he'll win. Promising signs for Jay tho.
Jay's winning 6 - 3, 3 - 1 against Arevalo.
Jay wins his first Wimbledon qualifying round 6 - 3, 6 - 4.
Well done. I really think he might be our next great hope.

Become tight in the 2nd but Jay in ascendancy, keep going!
I am very confused (yes I know that's normal). I thought Qualifying was best of 3?
First two rounds are BO3, FQR is BO5!
Did AM ever have to go through Wimbledon Qualifying?
JAMES4578

Did AM ever have to go through Wimbledon Qualifying?
Andy never went through qualifying, he got a wildcard as 18 year old in 2005 and reached 3rd R losing to Nalbandian in 5. Ofner took 3rd and 4th 6-4 so into decider come on Jay!

Why didnt jay get a main wildcard i wonder?
I think he has been given one for the doubles. He will learn from this, and hopefully really get to grips with his fitness over the next year, and progress well enough to get a Main Draw Wildcard for next year.
I really think he is one to watch for the future.

What a shame - maybe next time.
Jay won his match in the Cherbourg Challenger today.
but it was to a QWC WR 1592, so I'm not getting too exited yet. He plays someone ranked 1109 next, so I fancy his chances for qualifying.
Jay got through to the MD, but then lost to Otte, O., WR 136. in less than an hour :-(

Gulbis in a foul mood as Jay wins the fourth set 6 - 3.

Loving the commentary from the Umpires' mike whilst the players are off court (very long break they're having). He's made the linesmen tidy up the ball that were loose, then he ordered more towels and water and finally he gave the court staff permission to eat bananas and drink water to keep hydrated.
