Have a great time on the cruise SG

Banskogirl, enjoy the Lake District and the cream teas and getting your daughter. I love cream teas, don't think I'm going near to Cornwall, Devon or the Lake District so doubt I will be able to get a real one when I visit. Will have to make do with Strawberries & Cream and a Pimms from you know where. :wino: :tennis: Not long now and 8 working days left to retirement!!!! :yahoo:

Oooh lucky you Banskogirl - I've a week there to look forward to this summer ... I really hope we get decent weather! Shan't be up any mountains though - knee not well enough for that sadly.

Hey maybe we will be there at the same time, we are over for our normal two weeks later in July! We go with a group of friends and all our kids! Not sure if my knees are ok, usually find out on the way down the mountain!

I have had lots of invites to spend the "summer" in Cornwall but think it will be too emotional going back. Am going to visit friends in Devon at beginning of December instead!

That's nice Pat, memories are lovely but they make it hard don't they? :( and the weather might be better in December! ;)

Have to confess I have never fancied a cruise but Gill went on one under duresse from her family and had a great time. Hope you do too SG.

Not sure we'll be getting another holiday this year due to all the work on the house. Went to the Lake District end of April / beginning of May. We stayed near Keswick, the weather was kind to us and we did lots of walking. We hadn't been for over 20 years and had a brilliant time so we won't leave it so long next time.

..... Given the choice, I would use much more of my holidays to go to tennis tournaments but hubby is not into tennis at all so I'll have to wait till I retire to do more than I can get away with now!

Hi :) we are going 20th July. We might cross paths about Gretna!

Back on Monday, late, from getting daughter. We had a great time, fitted in church twice, a good walk and lots of food! Unfortunately hubby called me to get him on Monday morning as he had taken a pain in his leg + had to stop his yomp :( I think he will need to see the doctor about calcium tablets or something as it is most likely an after effect of the chemo last year.

Anyway you have never seen anyone pack as quickly as we did when we realised he was coming, he had left us on Saturday morning and we hadn't done a thing! :surprised:

We are back and shattered. Supergramps has been in bed since 8.30. It was an experience travelling with people who do it sometimes three times a year!! One thing I did notice is that lots of passengers eat and drink practically all the time they are on board. More later!!

We are all packed (game, set, Murray off course!) and ready to go :) Walking and eating in the Lake District for a fortnight with about 16 friends. Hope to read the posts I didn't manage when we get back!

No more holidays for me this year sadly  And I love holidays! All our money is going on renovating the house and renting one to live in while it's done. Hopefully will all be worth it though.

Would love to go the Lake District with my kids. They are desperate to come visit Britain again. The last time was 2009 when we went to London and Cornwall. But I don't think we'll be back for at least five years.

We had a fabulous week in the Lake District last week. The weather and scenery was fantastic. We loved it. We made it down to Manchester at the weekend to visit friends then popped across to Liverpool for 24 hrs. We are back in Scotland now at my mums and planning a trip to Fife tomorrow.

Just back from the Lakes too and the weather stayed great! It was too hot to do any high walking the first week, that hasn't happened for a long time! We had to lie at Rydal Water all day much to the kid's delight :) Pity we didn't get to meet, Jane!

Glad you had a fab time too - it was too hot to do much for us too although that didn't stop us lol .... hubby and daughter did a lot of paddling and I ate ice cream! Diet? What diet?! :red devil:

I've just booked a weekend away in Inverness with my best mate - we've been friends for 30 years next month since we met in the halls in Edinburgh the first weekend after we arrived. We married cousins and she was my bridesmaid almost 24 years ago. Some of you will have met her at DC with me (Tina) - can't wait - will be a fun and relaxing weekend (the hotel has a spa :boogie:).

I have a friend who is my best and oldest friend. We met at our Infants' School when we were 4 in 1944. She lives near Cirencester now but has lived in Africa and Mauritius. Speak to her regularly and she visited us last summer. It is lovely to have one constant lifelong friend.

Such a great atmosphere there. I used to work at a restaurant on the Royal Mile and had to walk home around the castle and it was so exciting to live in Edinburgh during Festival time.

Just checking we aren't allowed a brolly?

I don't know for sure but would suspect not as it would obscure other folk's view.

Linda
08-08-2013, 18:30
As you're allowed brollies at Wimbledon, I would have thought that they'd be allowed anywhere.

banskogirl
08-08-2013, 18:42
But I suppose when your brolly is up at Wimby there's nothing to see cause the match is stopped?

hfwardhouse
08-08-2013, 18:44
Yes but at Wimbledon you wouldn't be using a brolly while play was underway. They don't stop the tattoo for rain!

Linda
08-08-2013, 18:47
I know I've watched tennis in the rain and all the umbrellas have been up - if anyone lifts their brolly too high then everyone else tells them to put it down - the drips off someone else's brolly have been going down my back

I think that this was (1) in Monte Carlo and (2) at Wimbledon on Court 2 watching the coverage of Centre Court on the screen.

Mind many years ago on a hot day at Wimbledon someone asked me to remove my hat , suppose a cap is better though. Have a great time Banskogirl at The Tatoo!

I've been to things where brollies weren't allowed - it's only fair really. Nothing wrong with a mac and rain hat - or better still, hood to stop the water dripping down the back of your neck.

Got back from our hols last night. We had a lovely week in Normandy in a beautiful luxury gite with a private heated pool and the kids loved it! We had exceptional weather for that part of France as well, one day we peaked at 32 degrees! One solitary wet day was spent visiting the Normandy World War 2 museum in Bayeux and it inspired us to go on and visit Omaha beach and the American Cemetery. Found it a very fascinating and humbling experience.

Then on to Brittany for 2 weeks with 4 other families we met there 10 years ago. We all meet up each year in the same complex and have a wonderful time together. The Breton beaches and scenery are just beautiful. The only bad thing was the journey home, which I always dread because of the long drive from Plymouth to Yorkshire. However the overnight crossing from Roscoff was really bad this year and I felt like I was riding the waves even when I got home! Ploughing through the mountains of washing now.

Hope everyone that has been away has had a great time.
