I was just thinking how hilarious it would be if all the top players/teams lost all their rubbers to stick it to the ITF.
With the strap line where's all your top players now?
With the exception of Raffa.
Boooooo.

I said ages ago that I thought Andy might play doubles with Jamie at this tie. I also would REALLY love to see him play. Can't see how it can be detrimental tbh.

This has always been in the back of my mind! I suppose we will just have to see how far he goes in the US Open. My best DC match ever was watching him and Jamie play the doubles in the final in Ghent. In fact it is my best watch of all time! I was sitting with Tennisfan about 5 rows up, opposite the team bench and in line with the net so was almost playing the shots, moving my body from side to side!

I heard a rumour that Australia wouldn't be playing their tie. I don't know if it was true or not. I can't believe, in two Wednesdays time, I'll be off to stay the night at my aunt and uncle's house in Shropshire before heading off to the hotel in Glasgow. Where has the time gone?!

I see the LTA want us to dress in blue for this tie. I had thought it might be red this time as the Uzbekistan colours seem to be blue and white - albeit a slightly lighter shade of blue than ours. Official merchandise not available yet. I wonder will the We Are Tennis group be red again?
Under transport it says additional train services on the Sunday till 22.00 (hope it will finish long before that!) as well as 4 per hour all day Friday and Saturday.

Telling fans which colour to wear for a tie is so annoying. People know that Red AND White AND Blue are British colours and they can wear them in any flipping combination they wish. Plus, it looks very drab on the TV not to have a good splash of red in there.

jagmad
30-08-2018, 17:47
If the LTA had spoken out more vocally and earlier on the Vote I might have respected the decision.
As it is I thought about buying 2 black T's and wearing them?
So how about buying black ribbon and tying it in a bow as arm bands to respectfully mourn the death of our DC?

That article, like so many others over the years, assumes that the crowd are locals, rather than fans travelling from all over the country :grrr: Perhaps that is what the ITF believe about DC ties too, and that is why we have not been taken into consideration in the changes.

Stell
03-09-2018, 17:47
I agree with you, Linda. The All England Club don't organise any of the DC ties and should never have had the vote. In fact, I believe all the people behind their country's DC teams should have been allowed to vote and not the people behind the Grand Slam tournaments. Our feelings and all the other tennis fans feelings, should have been considered as well.

Only The AELTC did not have a vote, they publicly supported the changes but did not have a direct say-for GB only the LTA had a formal role along with the other national associations. certainly the players should have been consulted akong with fans though during the process.

https://www.scotsman.com/sport/tennis/glasgow-is-set-for-its-last-hurrah-as-a-davis-cup-venue-1-4792558

Quote....“We will lose out on the chance to do more work around these home ties. The players honestly really enjoy that side of it. When I spoke to the players about doing these things and being more interactive – and it was Jamie Murray in the first place who sowed the seeds on this with a conversation we had in a locker room at the French Open – they wanted to get as many children as possible involved. “ They really embrace that. So, we will miss that. But it will sharpen the thoughts of the LTA because we need to think about what we can do to still get out there.

Easy just loose!!

Quote.....Smith and British tennis’ governing body, the LTA, opposed the switches but have to accept the decision and will instead do everything they can to capitalise on home advantage while they still have it. With the emphasis on winning the tie but also on taking the game to as many fans as possible.

It's a rubbish situation when the best thing to do to get what you want for the kids is to loose.
Caused by the money grabbing, uncaring, deaf, dumb and blind.

Hi Angie
Yes, there is one. As you look at the main outside sets of steps it is over to the left hand side, looks like a grey tube. Not sure how you are getting there but if by Taxi tell the driver to speak to Security when he pulls in because he can probably be let through to drop you right up by the food court area and then be escorted through a side entrance so it's only a short walk for your Mum across to the lift. Not good if you come in via normal route as lots of queueing and nowhere to rest pins!

In case anyone else was wondering, info from the LTA site below. It looks like there aren't restrictions on bringing in food/water - but does umbrellas include small folding ones?!

Guests are subject to bag searches and hand held metal detectors prior to entering the complex.
Information on whether a left luggage facility will be available at the Event Venue will be confirmed shortly.
Please take note of the prohibited items list for the Emirates Arena:

Glass bottles, cans, alcoholic beverages
Signs, including political, promotional or advertising material
Broadcast quality video/motion picture cameras and recorders
Camera lenses exceeding 300mm in focal length
Umbrellas
Fireworks and smoke bombs
Persons under the influence of alcohol will not be permitted to enter the premises
Guests are not permitted to distribute literature or other materials to sell or distribute merchandise within the premises

they have always took a no sign stance because of ambush marketing, but also large fan support signs do restrict views.

I'm sure Sally won't mind me saying...

We have had our seats moved at basically the last minute, from our usual seats opposite the umpire to the back of the main GB block. We were told that it is because the seating in the arena had been changed due to a request made by venue security.

With that said, I for one intend to enjoy the weekend with friends and try to savour the last drop of DC as we know it.

 Tickets, now this - what's the third thing that's going to go wrong???:cauldron:

My third thing has already gone wrong (though hopefully that will save the rest of you!) - with the worst possible timing, I'm unwell and my back has flared up so I had to cancel the tonight's train reservation yesterday while I still could. :-(

There are still three sleeper berths free for Friday night (and can cancel the PI up to 1pm tomorrow), so if things improve over the next 24 hours and one of the sleeper berths is still available tomorrow, I may yet be there for the weekend, but I'm not very hopeful.

I'm gutted because I desperately wanted to see everyone again, not to mention seeing Cam, Dan and maybe even Jay in action. I'm likely to still be in the UK early next year (unfortunately), so if we get a home DC tie next February (and people can still be bothered ...) or maybe even a home Fed Cup tie in April (there are rumours that the LTA might even be bidding to stage half of EA Zone Group I in the UK next February, not sure but I'm not banking on that coming off), so with any luck, this might end up not being my last chance to see you all at a big GB tie.

Thanks to Sally for her amazing efforts over the years sorting out all the tickets, despite being let down by the powers that be even more often than Carlos Ramos has been shafted by the USTA, and whether I end up in Glasgow at the weekend or not, I hope you all have a wonderful time!

I’m sorry it’s been such a nightmare. I think our group does get a lot less support and recognition from the LTA than the others. Who knows why, maybe because we are smaller. It’s certainly nothing you could have done anything about. Have a big glass of wine and enjoy the weekend.

There may be changes afoot for the DC next year, but one thing that certainly doesn't change, and probably never will, is the amazing camaraderie and friendship among the forumers. That is really special and I really value it. It stands way above everything else DC. A great group of tennis loving folks. We are very lucky to have that.

Definitely very grateful to james for th mini bus- makes a big difference for me on the Saturday for getting back to town. Another fun weekend.... back to reality with a bump today, had DHT in observing me teaching at 9:50! Am sure I won't be our last weekend. What a lovely murray legacy that the boys have created friendships amongst fans,

Thanks again to Sally for sorting the tickets - and the seating plan!

Big thanks to James for organising the transport - it's much more convenient than joining the taxi queue in the rain! Also big thanks to Sally for organising the tickets - we enjoyed ourselves. We've been to Balloch today for a wizz round Loch Lomond and shore shopping centre - and if the weather holds (and it has so far more or less) we hope to visit the Murray ancestral home town/city (cathedral and post box) tomorrow.:thanks:

Now if I hadn't been working you could've come for a cuppa, I am 2 mins by car, 15 minute walk from Lomond Shores.

We did that today including Cromlix and bumped into Jimmy and family there.
Couldn't decide whether to have Lunch or afternoon tea, had lunch and after I decided tea and scones sounded good.
So we ended up having both.

Winner winner chicken dinner.
Well actually sausage and mash but you get the picture.

Thanks to everyone for making this such a memorable DC.

The minibus was a bit of luxury. Being whisked along I watched the fans trudging along outside ....

I like the way Sally swaps us around so that we sit near different people each day.

Ditto - thank you to both.

That article, like so many others over the years, assumes that the crowd are locals, rather than fans travelling from all over the country :grrr: Perhaps that is what the ITF believe about DC ties too, and that is why we have not been taken into consideration in the changes.

Agree. Perhaps someone could send an e-mail.:big grin:

I would just like to thank everyone for the love you showed me during the weekend. So many hugs and kind words from so many people. The reception I was awarded at the restaurant was truly overwhelming, I couldn't believe it. You really are a wonderful group of people. I didn't want to go and Sunday was difficult but glad I did. To have so many people, not just AMFF, come and find me over the three days was very moving. Thank you all so much. You are very special people. XX

I wish it could have gone on, as I felt it ended too quickly. We've now got to think who we want for next year. I read Mike Dickson's article in the Daily Mail and he believed the two wildcards would go to Serbia and Switzerland as Djokovic supported the change and I think Federer might have done as well. Mike claimed the tie could also be held in either Manchester or Brighton, if we got a home one.

Your entrance to the restaurant is one of my favourite memories of the weekend! Glad you were able to appreciate the weekend - and you know we are always here for you x

It was a wonderful weekend. Great fun as Always. Special thanks to Sally, Clare and James. It was great to spend time with everyone, though liz and maud will be sick of the site of Kev and I soon lol. Whatever changes come to the DC I look forward to cheering on the team with my fellow Forumers in the future, even if it has to be in front of a tv rather than live.

I must have been following you round in Dunblane yesterday! Both in the Cathedral and the museum, when I said I'd come up for the tennis they said someone else had been too, shortly before me! They haven't yet updated the display in the museum with Jamie's latest Grand Slam victory! :unclesam:

Got home at 4.40am this morning after a four-hour delay in the flight back to Bristol last night. :grrr: However I should get compensation....

Yes that was probably us - very friendly lot in the museum - we headed back to Stirling to have a look round there afterwards. We're now spending an extra day in our Glasgow hotel as the train line is down (hopefully we can get something out of the rail company for that).

(As it happens I recently had a three hour delay from Belfast City to London City. It was engine trouble so clearly their fault - so we got the full 2x250 euro compensation from the company under the EU directive - it was only a shame we didn't keep our receipt for two coffees and a muffin 'cause I would have been able to claim that as well!)

I got compensation from aer Lingus last year after a 5hour delay to cork. Took a bit of pestering mind you but got there in the end.
