:thanks:Sally. So Andy will be playing "the top players" in this one.
Even if Federer wins at Basel, he won't gain any points and he - Fed will also lose 250 points because he didn't defend his titl in Stockholme, so Andy will still be #3 and if he plays he will gain more points. So he will still be #3 seed.
So the draw is tonight at 5.30pm(UK), there is also a live stream on the BNP Parabis web site:)

Great that we may have a Fed/Andy SF instead of a Rafa/Andy SF but I am worried about what's happenong with Rafa - so unlike him not to play for so long
Good luck with this tournament Andy - just hope you're feeling good enough to play
I don't think we need worry about Rafa. He's saving his energy for WTF and the Davis Cup final - the latter in particular is very important to him. He doesn't play his best at Bercy and the crowd there don't like him, so he's best off giving it a miss.

Andy's draw looks pretty good. Hopefully he'll be able to ease himself in, as he's probably going to be a bit rusty (it may take a little time to get his **** in gear...).

Just studying the first round matches:
Wawrinka/Isner. Hmmm.
Mayer/Stepanek. Not interested, but I imagine it would be a good match.
Cilic/Verdasco. Could be fun.
Nice to see that Andy conquered that 'Bye' fellow so easily, and the tournament hasn't even started... ;)

As predicted, Novak withdraws from Paris along with Rafa, making Andy the #1 seed in Paris. Seeded to meet RF in final now, not semifinal.

I'm not sure about that, the draw has already been made. I would have thought they would put the next person due to be a seed in Djoker's place. I'm pretty sure that has happened before, like when Rafa withdrew from Wimbledon 09 and Delpo moved into the #1 slot.

Does that mean that they will restructure the draw? I don't think I've known that happen before.

Possibly when the entry list was done Colin and Ross weren't ranked high enough to get in together? Jamie was ranked quite high a few weeks ago so maybe they decided to split and and play with a Murray bro each to guarantee entry?

That's exactly so.
This is the Doubles Entry List at the time of release. It clearly states that 24th October is the deadline and determines the entry rankings. On that date these were the British player doubles rankings:-
Jamie #24, Colin #31, Ross #50, Andy #52 (but singles #3 which takes precedence for counting).
So, Colin and Ross wouldn't have got in on a combined ranking of #81.
However, by Colin teaming with Jamie at least that pair got in - but they only just pipped Kas/Gonzalez who are first Alts on the same combined ranking. There is probably some bit of ATP ruling well hidden about how that happened.
;)
It also means that Ross could still play by combining with Andy as an on-site entrant based on their combined ranking of #53 (Andy's #3 singles and Ross's #50) as at 31st October. As it goes Colin and Jamie are now a combined #64 so still merit their place.
This way we get 2 pairs of Brits in the Doubles Draw!
I'm very happy for that - the boys have used the rules very well.

Yep. I think some peeps have jumped the gun regarding his withdrawal. In the Sky Sports article here (http://%22http://www1.skysports.com/tennis/news/12110/7293597/Djokovic-ousted-by-Nishikori) he's quoted as saying "He said the shoulder problem had been getting worse all week but still intends to play in next week's Paris Masters."
Quite intrigued by the headline banner of that Sky article.

If this is the same shoulder injury Nole had in Cincy, doesnt bode well that it flared up again after having rest. Even if he can play with it for a couple rounds I would think it would get progressively worse again, like it obviously did in Basel. Or at least there might be a good chance of that.

There might be a chance if they play on Centre Court - although I suspect they'll just cover the cameras up 'cos that's what they've done when I've been at Bercy. Nearly all the doubles matches are played on Courts 1 and 2 where there is even less chance of TV coverage. TV cameras are in action down there during any singles matches but they deffo won't keep them rolling for the doubles.
Sounds similar to our experience with Queen's. It didn't matter what time the doubles started or who was playing, as soon as the singles finished, the camera covers went on and that was it. :grrr:
Could it be because the TV network have only paid for the rights to show the singles?

So basically Almagro or Tipsy need to reach the final to have any chance, Simon or Monfils need to win. Even in Paris the odds of any of them getting in the mix are slim.

Didn't Andy play a singles match here (Verdasco?) either last year or the year before and the tournament director was extremely grateful for him for doing that? I remember thinking that it was a ridiculous size as the second court for a Master's event...
It is ridiculously small - there are even fewer seats on the other side (and none at the ends)!

I'm not sure whether it was this court but it was one of the minor courts. I'm pretty sure the match you mean was against Stepanek in 2009. If I remember rightly, Andy had had a very long match against James Blake the night before that finished at about 2 in the morning and then he was shunted out onto a secondary court - where there was very little room behind the baseline - early the next day. Even though he lost the match, Andy didn't complain - he rarely does - but the tournament director was very apologetic - I think he felt he had cost him the match.

Court 2 is actually the third court - Centre, Court 1, and Court 2. It's still ridiculous for a Masters tournament, though.

By my reading Tipsy now needs to win the title to upset the applecart.
Sallydaisy
10-11-2011, 10:52
Tipsy was leading 5-2 and serving about 10mins ago and looked to be booking an upset. However, Berdych broke the Serb when he was serving for the set and then held.
Tipsy again serving for the first set at *5-4 but Berdy has him at *15-40 and could be about to break back and level it to 5-5.
Sallydaisy
10-11-2011, 11:05
Berdych comes back to win the set 7'5 by winning 5 games on the trot.
He's a set away from confirming his place at the WTF in London.
I'm watching a catch up video of the Berdy v Tipsy match (which is still at 5-5...) and Robbie/Chris are commentating but the background sound has switched to Centre Court where they're lining up the Djokovic/Troicki match.
Wonder how Nole will fare today against his fellow Serb ...
Sallydaisy
10-11-2011, 11:26
Troicki gets an early break of serve and holds but Nole gets on the board. His serves have not been particularly strong.
Viktor to serve at *2-1.
Meanwhile Berdy loses the opening game of the 2nd set and Tipsy now has a 3-1 lead and is challenging the Berdy serve in game 5. This'll probably go to 3 unless Tomas can turn the tables pronto.

If Troicki keeps this up it'll hurt Nole.
Nole managed to break back but then was broken again and Troicki is serving for the match at 5-4.
Nole challenging and it goes to *15-40, 30-40 and then deuce.
Ad Troicki.
First set to Viktor Troicki.

17 unforced errors in this set, 3 DFs, only 1 Ace and his serve speed is down.

Nole has just broken Troicki to lead 2-0 in the 2nd set.
Troicki has broken back - and Nole is looking increasingly in pain.
Viktor to serve at *1-2.
Sallydaisy
10-11-2011, 12:25
It took 10mins for Nole to finally hold serve in that game and go 3-2.
Hope Troicki gets over his disappointment at not capitalising on his chances to break the Djoko serve there.
Nole on a roll ... takes the 2nd set 6'3.
He's also got a break in the first game of the 3rd set.
Come on Viktor!
Nole seems in control now - 4-0 up in the 3rd.

Doesn't look too likely right now, Fed has been pretty much allowed to cruise, come on Richie! Pity Fish retired but maybe Monaco did have the momentum.

Gasquet just had 40-15 on Fed's serve in game 4 but Rog has levelled it to deuce - and held.
Allez Richard!!!

Ouch, Feli lost that set. A DF when Isner had Ad against him is so not a good idea!!!
Isner first set 6'4.

Pretty straightforward in the 2nd for Isner as he gors through in straights and Fed really wasn't stretched too much in the end. Certainly surprised the Bryans went out, pity Booty/Rojer won't qualify for WTF but will be alternates.

So, Nole is out of Paris ... per link posted by Steven in the Pick'em thread and the text below:
November 11, 2011
Dear fans and friends, sadly i have to inform you that i have withdrawn from the further tournament. I have pushed myself to the limit by playing, and after the match yesterday my shoulder got worse. For this reason, i have to put my health first and withdraw even though my urges as a professional player are making me want to play until the last drop of energy. I am very sorry for all of you who bought tickets and wanted to come to watch me play. My season has been long and tiring, i played all of my matches at my highest level, and now my body is aching for recovery. Hoping for your understanding and support,
Love
Nole
Bet Viktor Troicki is REALLY pleased about that.

So Tsonga gets a walkover . . . I wonder if they will revise today's schedule?

So Tsonga gets a walkover . . . I wonder if they will revise today's schedule?
They haven't done so yet Linda.
However, I'd not be surprised if they moved one of the proposed doubles matches on Court 1 especially since there are French players involved.
Benneteau/Mahut v Fyr/Mat might be a good option and could possibly be the last match on Centre. Or they could move LLodra/Nestor's match up?

Nole must have seen how well Andy was playing - and I thought he was supposed to be Troicki's friend

Sorry for Nole - he obviously has run out of steam and resxilience.
What a pity the draw worked out the way it has - how great it would be to watch Andy take out Fed in the final. Ah well - it will just have to be in the semi - Berdych permitting !

Cant see Berdie beating Fed tomorrow after that exhausting slog against Andy today - what a pity.
Think it looks like another 1000 points for Fed - he's building up a bit of momentum before the O2

Assuming it IS Fed who gets through. He's just dropped serve to Monaco.
Fed's been broken already!
Come on Pico!!!!!
Vamos Pico. :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:
Fed may have won the first set, but Pico definitely looks quicker about the court to me.
Fed's not playing well - so many shanks. He'll probably be able to get through this match but tomorrow will be very tough for him.
Can't stand the commies being so pro-Fed. Why, why, why?
. . . and Fed won
Fed did not play well today - if he had been playing Andy or Berdych or even Fish I doubt that he would have won.

Fed certainly a bit below par, pity Pics just couldn't the sustain the challenge at the closing stages of the 2nd. Though having said that wouldn't give Berdych much chance in the semi after the gruelling win over Murray.

Who knows - Berdych has beaten Fed before and may well do so again. Certainly if they both play like they did today there will be no contest - Berdy will walk it!

Just want to mention - Fleming and Hutchins were 15th in the Race to London.

Well tried Pico! He looked like he could hardly bear to shake hands with Roger at the end, but at least he gave Fed a match this time. Oh well, keep your powder dry for the DC, Pico!
so, have we got our 'come on Tommy' banners, our 'Tommy for the title' hymnsheets?
No, definitely Jo-Willy for the title but Tommy for the match today - with a name like Tommy he can be an adopted Brit for the day!

I'm afraid to say that I think that Ol' Rog is gonna win the title :( Would love for Jo to get it done but it looks like FedError's all the way.
Well he'll have to play better than he did yesterday. Berdy has won 3 of their last 4 encounters!

That was a brilliant performance from Federer. He's going to be a major threat in London again this year.
