Leon in his interview was saying they were also probably trying to prolong the match a bit to tire Istamin out for tomorrow.

Well done to them. I have been out most of the day, so could only following now and again. Relaxed once they levelled it.

Both struggled at the start, but in the last set they made almost every return, which put the opposition under so much pressure.

The Uzbeks stronger than I expected but we will prevail!

I hope Jay gets a chance, sorry for Cam but Jay could be a surprise package for Istomin just like Wardy has often been previously.

Completely disagree - that's like Leon saying I no longer trust you after the loss, would damage Cam's confidence big time - not Leon's style and do not see the swap happening. All players (except Andy) have put in disappointing performances, Leon builds them up afterwards through continued belief. I think Cam will play and be much better. Just like Kyle hugely improved for his second match in Ottawa (only Denis' silliness stole his glory).

Cam won't be facing Istomin who has withdrawn with a right ankle injury ... per Russell Fuller.

Friday’s matches warn against over confidence, but GB will clinch the tie if Cameron Norrie can beat world number 516 Sanjar Fayziev in Sunday’s opening match.

I've had a long lie-in so only setting off in 10mins, may miss the first set ...

Hmmm, don't know how I feel about this. Might have prefered a tired Istomin, because now Cam the much higher ranked player again...expectation back on him..c'mon Cam, back yourself and nail this tie! :cheer:

Well just switched the TV on, and it’s started. Cameron got broken in the first game, but broke straight back. Just held, so 2:1 up in first set.

Fantastic, well done Cam. Two sets up, and crucially, looking like a completely different player to hist first match. It's a flippin travesty that Leon didn't get a knighthood when GB won the cup.

Thanks RB, today back on RB so watching but no ST so not as frustrated and Cam seems to be doing the job and in fact just completes it! Your help yesterday much appreciated. (Hope you understood that!) x

Brilliant - really, really well done by Cam to turn things around after a tough start to the tie. And :bravo: Leon for always getting the best from of our guys.

Scandalous that there was no fifth rubber as per the rules.

Scandalous that there was no fifth rubber as per the rules.

That was very disappointing- my club had lots of members there including children, it was their first DC- for some their first live tennis- and feel they deserved a bit more. I thought they might have given Jay Clarke a turn.

I was so disappointed and felt let down.

Spain were 3-0 down and still played 5 rubbers!
Think I would'ave been happier if Jay had been given a chance to play even if it was against one of our own team.
Just as a friendly. In the spirit of DC.
Think maybe (if Leon et all are not in favour of the new rules)they may have missed a trick.
As in it's just as much about the fans as the winning.
Even those who got free tkts and turned up later not expecting one rubber only!!!

jagmad

Apparently:
Dead rubber policy (World Group / Zone Groups I and II)

No fifth rubber will be played if the fourth rubber is decisive

If the score is 3-0, only the fourth rubber will be played (World Group: best of three tiebreak sets; Zone Groups I and II: two tiebreak sets plus match tiebreak)

See........https://www.daviscup.com/en/organisation/davis-cup-format.aspx

So France and Spain have been naughty.
Although it was held in France?

Very glad that Cam got the win, but thought it was very bad that they didn't give us more to watch after only a straight sets match. Even if it was just Jay having a practice set with Leon, it would have been appreciated.

Very much feel we were shortchanged yesterday even if it is within the rules, think nearly everyone would've wanted a bit more tennis. Obviously great Cameron sealed the win and put Friday to rest but it was very straightforward, not exactly much of a challenge. Would have been different matter v Istomin though Jamie/Dom certainly put is in a good position by stemming the tide in the doubles and winning convincingly in the end. Whilst only a seeding was at stake we seen some passion and for the most part an enjoyable atmosphere.
