Oh no! Have you ever known anyone so unlucky!
Oh no! That’s just awful. I was really looking forward his come back :(
Sorry to read Milos is out of the French Open - so unlucky. Hope he will be fit for the grass court season. The same goes for Jo-Wilfried Tsonga - remember great matches between him and Andy.
Sad too that Delpo might not be able to play because of a grade 1 groin injury - another player unlucky.

You know I can't help feeling so sad for Del Potro and Milos. So unlucky with injuries.

Roland Garros website really awful! I can’t find any info I want except get men’s draw.
There no obvious place find order of play. Need find that page for FTM and FTD.
Also no date on it when men’s doubles draw be release. No tournament schedule (1st round etc which days and starting time which court etc).
Wimbledon website and US open website give all that info!
I think some of these websites are being redeveloped for use on mobile phones and a lot of the good stuff just seems to get lost. Play starts at 10.00 am on Sunday.
Found a tournament schedule with starting times for each day on a different website. Times are in French time so deduct an hour for UK time. https://www.grandslamtennistours.com/french-open-schedule-of-play/

Trying to find somewhere to follow live scores on a laptop where you can see lots of results on one screen. French Open website awful. Found this one below. Does anybody know of any better ones.

Kyrgios has withdrawn. Had him to win a round or two in pickem.
Troicki has also withdrawn.

Itv4 saying there are 7 lucky losers in mens draw. The change of rules is encouraging players to sign in, wait for the draw, then drop out so they still get half the prize money and the LL gets half, instead of withdrawals after one set.
Up to 8 with Kyrgios' withdrawal. I hadn't realised that those in line will have to sit around for 3 days in case a spot opens up.

Marco Trungelliti is driving from Barcelona so he will sign tomorrow early in the morning.
He play against Tomic 11AM

Wild scenes. That's a nine hour drive for Trungelliti. If *anybody* who had played in the men's RG18 qualifying draw had signed in today, he would have gotten Kyrgios's spot.

So Safwat is the only one who signed in for a lucky loser spot this morning.
No one else did!!

I wanted to post this list ... and shall deleted the dodgy looking duplicate post!
Line blank for now where Kyrgios withdrew.
The full next-in men's lucky loser order, which RG18 is well on it's way to using all of.
1 – Bemelmans IN
2 – Bolelli IN
3 – Safwat IN
4 – Gunneswaran OUT (Vicenza)
5 – Trungelliti APPARENTLY NOW DRIVING TO ROLAND GARROS!!!
6 – Gianessi
7 – Londero
8 – Novak
9 – Oliveira OUT (Vicenza)
10 – Kolar OUT (Vicenza)
11 – Lee
12 – Muller
Ben Rothenberg has got Bemelmans as in. Bemelmans has disappeared from the draw where he was and replaced by Lu. I know cos I chose Bemelmans to win the match in the pickem - unless the pickem lot got it wrong, but having a look I cannot see Bemelmans anywhere else in the draw. But Lu who replaced him has not got LL beside his name.

This is even more confusing. Just found an article saying that Bemelmans replaced Lu in the draw. Last night the pickem was more up to date than the French Open and the ATP website draws as I checked both!!!! The French Open website now shows Bemelmans (in place 14) but the ATP draw still shows Lu. Damn, I changed my pickem cos I thought he was out.
Bemelmans replaced Lu. The RG site has it correct. The ATP version has been very late in making all the changes.

I think RollyG is an all over mess this year!!! BenR could well be wrong!
Meanwhile Brad Gilbert is complaining (on twitter) that he can't find 'completed' matches anywhere.

Yes, the RG site is correct now Linda, but it wasn't last night a long time after it would have been announced.
I think RollyG is an all over mess this year!!! .
It must be a mess for the pickem to be more correct than the proper website - never known that before as they take ages to amend the pickems.

Hmm who thought this through???

Well it's better than players playing 2 games and retiring as happened all over wimbledon in first round last year. I think Centre Court on first day was a bit of a disaster (other than Andy). But players as usual take advantage any way they can. Not really much credit to the players.
At least this way spectators get a match to watch. But obviously organisers have to come up with some tweaks!;)
At this rate they will be dragging people out of the crowd and putting a racquet in their hand!

From my understanding of the rules, had any first round or second round qualifying loser signed in this morning (Jay Clarke or Liam Broady, for example), they would be playing Bernard Tomic tomorrow. #RolandGarros (https://twitter.com/hashtag/RolandGarros?src=hash)

Earlier today I heard Mark Petchey say that the potential lucky losers wouldn't have such a dilemma of whether or not to hang around after qualies if there were no Challenger events this week. In other words, if the various tennis organisations co-operated instead of competing with each other this problem might not arise.
Verdasco looking like he's going to get lucky, serving for the match right now, but he was heading out until Nishioka's body started giving out.

Problem is there are over a 1000 male tennis players out there trying to make a living, and only the top 200 get to try and compete at slams. The remainder need to carry on playing so given the choice between playing in a challenger / futures or sitting waiting for Kyrgios (for example) to withdraw from a GS, you cant blame the itf/atp for players wanting to play.

Strange they don’t have OOP menu and put in news sections. At least now I know where is it.
Strange they don’t have OOP menu and put in news sections. At least now I know where is it.
I guess the new developers did not understand how people used the old website. At least they putting more options on the menus now - the RG18 option.
The lucky loser, Marco Trungelliti, who had to drive back from Barcelona to play Tomic has won.

Wawrinka the latest upset though maybe not big surprise, was up 2 sets to 1 but Garcia Lopez took the next two 7-6, 6-3.

Roland Garros website finally add new menu item. OOP now in menu. That better. It feels like they incomplete and trying rush finish website during RG. Like miss deadline. Lol

So nice and so unusual to see a player with my first name!
Great match between Thiem and Tsitsipas. Fab tennis.
I liked Sasha's repsonse to a yorkshire accent.

Domi through after beating Tsitispas (google:did you mean sissy pants? er ..no) - excellent, Dom a real contender for the title if he can handle the really big moments.

A few tough ones yesterday for Sacha and Dimi but glad they came through, Dom's match not quite so challenging but tricky opponent. Disappointment for Shapovalov as he goes out 7-5 in 4th to Marterer , bit surprised at that one.

weird how when the British players are doing well, I can stand Inverdale's banal chuntering much better. :dunce:
The GB players are like buses today - many playing at the same time. Kyle, Cameron and now Jamie Murry.
I like Inverdale though, even though his words are errrr rather clumsy at times.
Benneteau has just played his last match at Roland Garros on Phillipe Chatriere Court. Standing ovation.

Hoped Benny would've pressed Delpo a bit more but still many moments in his career and a credit to the tour, will be missed at Rolland Garros. Don't rate Inverdale but not hearing him much this year at French anyway as concentrating on Eurosport.
I heard, this morning, about Alexander Zverev not understanding a word from the Yorkshire reporter. My uncle is a Yorkshireman, maybe he could teach him to understand the accent.

It wasn't even a very broad accent!!
For those who haven't seen this, really good. To my mind all pressers should be more like this!
Alexander Zverev loves reporter's Yorkshire accent:

Really looking forward to Goffin v Monf, definitely my pick of the day and if both play well possibly match of the tournament :excited:

Dimi in real trouble against Nando V - 2 sets and 3-0 down - c'mon Dimi! :cheer:
RosieBear
01-06-2018, 11:19
Only 2-2 in first but already blistering between Novak and RBA, great to see Novak finding form again, so encouraging.
I see that Verdasco was in one of his “I am going to be a real pain in the posterior moods”. Alas, Unlike AM Dimitrov couldn’t turn it round.
JAMES4578
01-06-2018, 11:43
Disappointing as Vedfasco knocks out Dimi in straights, though the spaniard can be a threat on his day. Sacha Zverev in real trouble, down 2 sets to 1 to Dzumhur -recovered break earlier but facing more bps at 4 all. Zverev comes back from 0-40 to hold for 5-4 but whatever happens can't really him as 2nd fave. Sacha comes back from brink after dropping serve at 5 all to take breaker 7-3, breaks for 2nd time to take 2-1 lead in 5th but needs to consolidate this time.

Unbelievable drama between Sascha and Dzumher - wow, that last game was something else by both. One of those days you just love being a neutral. Sascha serving to stay in the match....
JAMES4578
01-06-2018, 13:11
Sacha somehow survives in the end, had to save mp at 4-5 but wins decider 7-5,well done! Dzumher will be gutted though as so close and became such a riveting battle, a bit of a gruelling match though and A. Zverev's 2nd consecutive 5 setter. Bautista Augut levels with Djokovic ,though Nole has early break in 3rd.
RosieBear
01-06-2018, 13:11
Sascha wins  - really wanted the w for plucky Dzumhur, so entertaining and such fight but not to be. He'll have nightmares over that penultimate service game.
I wonder if Sascha will make it past the 4th round for the first time in a grand slam this time round.
Bautista Agut's mother died last week. Must be really hard playing so soon after. https://www.atpworldtour.com/en/news/bautista-agut-roland-garros-2018-thursday

Bautista Augut had chances in the 3rd but lost breaker and Djokovic seems in control,up 3-1 in 4th. Certainly difficult personal circumstances though playing slam after loss.
RosieBear
01-06-2018, 14:38
Must be really hard after the sudden loss of his mother but RBA has played so well today in her honour, a bit like Steve Johnson did when he lost his father recently. Sad but also uplifting.

Wow, the waffle and Monf living up to expectations and then some. What a pair of shotmakers. Monf takes first set breaker.
Why are there so few matches in play? Or is it just the **** RG website?

Just watched the Zverev match. I was nervous for them both! What a match that was!
I put it on, yesterday evening, to find it was raining in Paris and ITV 4 were showing clips of players losing their tempers. It reminded me of Loughborough. Every day, there always seemed to be a player that lost his temper and said some sort of swear word (I believed the players to be swearing). Yet, only Frederik Nielsen got a violation in his doubles match with Joe Salisbury against Galloway and Lammons, as swore in English and then hit the ball, on purpose, towards the ceiling.

So frustrating that ITV are showing the Rafa pounding Gasquet snoozefest rather than the resumption of Goffin/Monf - that was an incredible match.:grrr:

Gutsy display from both but great fighting quality from Goffin, though pity if Monfils struggling. 5-2 to David in 5th now, as expected really Nadal had very comfortable win over Gasquet.
Gael still fighting with break points

Gael broke for 3-5 but unable to hold to put more pressure on, Goffin takes the entertaining match 6-7,6-3,4-6,7-5,6-3 over 2 days, well done David!
Well done David. Very happy for him that he got through that match.

Domi v Kei has to be my pick for tomorrow, both so watchable, hopefully will match the Goffin/ Monf encounter for entertainment :excited:
Yep that's my pick as well along with Novak v Fernando Verdasco. Hope they will both be good matches.
Sasha and Khachanov having a batle.

Just in to see that Dom/Kei is looking a bit one sided - maybe a tough ask for Kei as he comes back. Sascha's match getting interesting...not at all convinced he'll come through.
JAMES4578

Sacha in another tussle and at times looked up against it, however just broken and held for 5-2 in 4th, can he come through another 5 setter! Khachanov though tightening up somewhat, regardless Thiem seems firm favourite to reach semis. Thought would've been tested by Kei though, disappointing.
RosieBear
03-06-2018, 12:07
Good grief! Break was Kachanov's racquet in 2 games in that set but instead Sascha takes it to a decider. Feel like the match is more in K's hands than Sascha's - but does he have the nerve.
Just in to see that Dom/Kei is looking a bit one sided - maybe a tough ask for Kei as he comes back. Sascha's match getting interesting...not at all convinced he'll come through.
Nishikori has not given up yet - he has won the 3rd set 7-5 and is a break up in the 4th.

Sascha wins  but let off the hook big time, KK will rue that 4th set. Eventual winners often have one titanic struggle en route, but Sascha's eeking through every round - on the one hand he keeps hanging in, on the other it's not very convincing. Personally I don't see him lifting the trophy this year.
Great to see Kei making a match of it now against Thiem.
JAMES4578
03-06-2018, 12:54
Credit to Sacha for coming through another great battle and whilst somewhat fortunate to take it to 5 after KK faltered his mental strength was impressive, whilst not one of the longest five setters think it may well still take toll though. Congrats on reaching his first Grand slam quarter but going to be challenging reaching final this time. Good that Kei found way into match but Dom has break and now close to quarter at 5-3 in 4th.

Certainly surprised Goffin out, losing 3rd/4th sets to Cecchinato 6-0, 6-3 though the Monfils match was a demanding one. The Italian goes on to play Djokovic who put out Verdasco in straights (even if a few very long games early on)

Sad to see Goffin go, but he's had some bruising encounters starting with Haase so maybe not so surprising. Caught some of Novak's match, he's beginning to look impressive. My money's on a Rafa/Nole final - think the seasoned campaigners will have the last say.
JAMES4578
03-06-2018, 18:42
Certainly Nole looks to have fairly good chance of reaching another slam final which I didn't think was that likely a month ago, however Thiem still has shot of making first if he gets past A Zverev.
Really sad to see Goff go out, although he seems to have struggled in most matches. I'm not really bothered who wins now as all my favourites are out.

First set Dominator  just love the little beast. Tennis is so much between the ears, Dom was very disappointing against Sascha in the Madrid final a few weeks ago, depsite leading h2h 4-1, because it was new territory. Now the shoe's on the other foot, first slam qf for Sascha whereas Dom been to semis, and Dom's right back on his game
Sorry RB, not often we disagree on stuff but come on Sascha!! I just love him. As usual I have missed much of the tournament but still have a few faves in. Will catch up on this match later (am recording).

JAMES4578
05-06-2018, 13:15
Some great play from Thiem though Sacha now stuggling a bit physically, which is obviously a pity. Mind you one great rally even if he came out on losing side. 4-1 to Dom in 2nd and looking like medical time out. I do like both as well but prefer Dom and even without injury didn't think Zverev would have much to give if he did come through.
Rosalind
05-06-2018, 13:33
Zverev looks so much like my nephew that I have to have a soft spot for him. He looked close to tears. How awful. One thing's for sure, when they walk off the court to the backstage area and stand next to normal people, they look like super humans!
Zverev paying for the 15 sets played so far then?
I like Dominic and hope he wins through.
Come on Dominic :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:
RosieBear
05-06-2018, 13:41
I like both too but def see Dom as the more complete player at the moment - not a criticism of Sascha, more a reflection of Dom being 3 years older, which is a lot in tennis terms. Sascha not having the rub today, but all players take the rough with the smooth and he's had a lot of great days for such a young player. He should also have got past Lajovic, Dzumhur and Kachanov more quickly!
This is done. I do feel sorry for Sascha but from a selfish point of view I'm glad this isn't the semi as I'm going to be there....
JAMES4578
05-06-2018, 13:50
Becoming bit of a rout for Thiem now, though was always a risk this might happen and shame for Zverev. Sacha though should've been able to to have won some of the matches a bit quicker, though still credit for coming through them .
Josephine

Glad Thiem is winning. Something about Zverev sort of boasting about getting through all these 5 setters got on my nerves. Can't win a slam like that. Overall I find him a bit cocky, but he is going to be a slam winner and top player for many years.

Nope, Josephine, you can't.
And I know what you mean - I'm still giving him the benefit of the doubt at the moment and like him on the whole, but the fact that lovely Goffin criticised him (said 'He doesn’t care a bit about others') was a bit telling.

Figured it would be be relatively straightforward for Djokovic but obviously a few problems, back on serve in 2nd though.
Djokovic has a neck injury that is hampering him.

Another fun match. It's been a good tournament. C'mon Nole :cheer:
Think Nole may have him now if his neck and legs and knee and all the other injuries keep at bay.
Interesting start to the fourth set. From BBC live
Marco Cecchinato 6-3 7-6 (7-4) 1-6 Novak Djokovic
Unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for Cecchinato at the start of the fourth set, gifts Djokovic the first point of the set after a lengthy argument between Cecchinato and a suited official.
Cecchinato has never been in such a situation before, this is without doubt the biggest match of his life.
Keep it together Marco, keep it together.
Apparently Cecchinato did not ask permission to leave the court at the end of the set.

Such a dramatic and exciting tiebreak, nerves jangling at times! Well done Marco, overall played amazing match to take out Djokovic (know neck was issue earlier on though). Defence and fighting spirit awesome, I was more or less writing 4th set off earlier on! Certainly some uncharacteristic errors from Nole at crucial times but also some great points!
First full match I've got involved in since Andy's exit last Wimbledon; I love all things Italian apart from Italian tennis players! Where has this guy come from? Has he played DC? Commiserations, Novak - good to see you back where you belong. Hope I'm saying the same to Andy in the not too distant future!
Has he played DC?One dead rubber, 1 win...
