Yay!! Feeling very excited now :yahoo::yahoo:

Went to see Gill's Steve in hospital this afternoon and he went home this evening. Gill is now definitely coming to DC which is great news! Steve is adamant that she should go and has drafted in his mum to come and 'babysit' him! The guy is a star and it will really do Gill good.

Brilliant news Caro! I'm glad he's home - he'll be way more comfortable there and will recover more quickly in familiar surroundings!

I've been in a similar situation to Gill, so I have an idea what she must have gone through - now Steve's ok, hopefully she can relax and enjoy a few days away.

Could you post mine please Sally? Won't be arriving till Friday morning so saves you having to wait outside the arena. There is a fair chance that Gill may not be able to make it so her tickets may be going spare. I don't know for sure yet - her other half has had a nasty ski accident and is in hospital in France ...
I don't think I know Gill but really sorry to hear about the sad news. I'm sending my Get Well soon here. :grouphug:

Knightowl - are you flying up from B'ham? We are on the Friday morning flight.

Not this time, no - usually we find flying is cheaper than the train, but when we looked into it this time, it was the other way round, so we're going up by train.

Tickets all sent out ...
3 envelopes made the 6.30pm post last night and I now know that someone in the far north of Scotland has received hers which is pretty good going! The remainder were posted at 2pm today. Please PM me if you haven't received them by next Monday. I'm holding onto tix for Pabbers, PatMoren, Cathy, Supergran (and my own!) but opted to send the rest.

I think a few people are staying at the Campanile and one or two at the Purple Hotel.
However, most have said they'll be up for a drink or three after the matches.

And I've no doubt that a few of us will be bringing 'supplies' to ensure we don't go short of wine!

Near the venue - it's roughly the same distance away as the Travel Lodge is, but in the opposite direction. Similar distance to the venue, but further from Xscape & Wetherspoons

I think the Purple Hotel & the Camponile are one and the same now - could be wrong, but I think so...
Yes it is!

This is a new hotel opened on the 16/11/10 and named as the Campanile Hotel Braehead. Originally is was built for the Purple hotels group but just not long after opening the Purple hotel group could not continue. Now with new owners and redeveloped this hotel is now open. Campanile Hotel Renfrew is only 4 miles from Glasgow Airport and beside the Border of Glasgow Council. It has the enviable position of being beside the Braehead shopping and leisure complex. The hotel is easily accessible from exit junction 25A off the M8.

Near the venue - it's roughly the same distance away as the Travel Lodge is, but in the opposite direction. Similar distance to the venue, but further from Xscape & Wetherspoons
I remember driving past the Purple Hotel (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&channel=s&hl=en&gs_sm=c&gs_upl=218907l222711l0l224512l19l17l0l1l1l0l229l25 50l3.8.5l16l0&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=0,0,15830563242801596242&fb=1&hq=campanile+braehead&gl=uk&daddr=2+Row+Avenue+renfrew,+Glasgow+G51+4SY&geocode=0,55.865968,-4.357452) (Campanile) - it's about 3/4 mile from the eastern end of Braehead (M&S end) so it's a mile or so walk back from Xscape (Odeon Braehead on map refers) whereas the Travelodge is about 200yds.

Wish there was an alternative to Wetherspoons tbh; needs to be more than one 'pub' really.

We've got one of those too. Basically, there are several little plastic pink pigs, and you throw them on the ground and get points based on eg how many are on their sides, how many have their legs in the air etc. At least, that's how I remember it...

Snap Pat!! Have been panicking all day as those who have had texts from me will confirm!! Still hoping the snow will not be as bad as predicted and we are planning an early start to the airport ...... wish us luck and hope to see you all tomorrow!! We will DEFINATELY be ready for a drink!

Noooo! I hope not!

On the upside, we had snow forecast here from 6pm onwards, and all we've had so far is some fairly half-hearted drizzle - I hope it's the same for you...!

Its still raining in Sheffield, but apparently its snowing further south in Rutland now, east of you.

Me too  - she was taking PatMoren up with her I think. Mind you maybe by now the :wino: has most likely been cracked open! Or probably out to dinner somewhere.

Well it feels quite mild here and it's raining at the mo. Looks like the forecast may be changing for the better. All packed and fingers crossed. Mr P is dropping me at the airport on his way to work in the morning - my flight is 8.45am so quite civilised. I guess if the weather is bad I'll still have to turn up for the flight in order to get any compensation or claim on my travel insurance. Don't fancy spending the day at the airport though never mind not making it to DC. Still, determined to be optimistic and assume the best. So hope to see lots of you there tomorrow!:cheer:

Sadly not.

However, when we checked in the guys on Reception recognised us and there was a bit of banter about 'oh not that late night rowdy drunken bunch are back' .....
Capped by this comment from one of the chaps:-
"Oh hello again, the blonde lady was asking after you and then she checked if we'd got plenty of wine in stock"

About 30-40 miles north of Carlisle, passing a valley among rolling hillsides, I saw a parked range rover, and walking down the road from it was a fairly elderly man wearing nothing but hiking boots and a wooly hat!

After an eventful journey (including naked hiker!) we arrived in Glasgow moments before the previously posted "incident" ( thanks Linda!) which cordoned of half of the city centre! Luckily we got a bus almost straight away, and weren't affected by any of the horrendous hold-ups I've been reading about.

Reached the hotel, and stopped long enough to check in and chuck our cases into the room, then high-tailed it over to the Arena as fast as we could. Got there moments before Dan Evans won the second set - great match from him, though we we told we'd missed the best :grrr:

James Ward's match was less inspiring - he did manage to win the 2nd set to level the match, but didn't really show up much in the 3rd. He came back well in the 4th, getting to 4-1, but then seemed to go walkabout long enough to Let Klizan break back, and though it got to a tie-break, he never looked like he was going to win that.

For those of us with tickets for Sunday, I guess it's good news in a way, as there will still be something to play for. Doubles should be very interesting tomorrow!

Knackered now - night all!

Pity you missed the start, but at least you got there in the end! I was expecting a level first day really but after Evo's fabulous performance hopes were really up that we could possibly dominate the tie. However despite some bright moments and some gutsy play it just weasn't Ward's day and he couldn't maintain the consistency required. The doubles can often be crucial, so, let's hope Cross can at least put us in the driving seat! Likely to be a tough battle though!

Very late when we got back last night. After the match several of us went for a meal at Bella Italia. Enjoyed most of the tennis, Dan was amazing, very different from the last time I saw him play against Poland. James seemed to have lost the spark, very flat, serve not up to scratch never able to finish the crucial parts of the match but he did have lots of chances. Hope he is a bit more fired uo on Sunday. The dubs should be very competitive today but my money is on Colin and Ross who took a set off the Bryans a short while ago!

I am back at work ... with no voice!! Not easy in my job! But hey, what an absolutely awesome weekend!! i have been going to DC since 1999 and this last tie will take some beating. Seen plenty of 5th rubbers, but never seen us win one (I don't think ... Steven will be able to correct me there if I'm wrong)

Dan was simply fantastic wasn't he?! Proud to have a midlander coming up the hero! He was on our flight home and when we collected our bags, Gill had the opportunity to say congratulations (I was in the loo! Gutted I missed him). She asked if they partied on Sunday night and he said they didn't ... not sure we believed him!! He looked shattered poor lamb.

Sincerely hope me and Gill will be there in April. No Edna SG? Shame, she was great fun ... no match for you in the bar though!!

Also, won 't be able to go at Easter :grrr: Goodness knows when I'll meet up with you all again :crying:

No Edna SG? Shame, she was great fun ... no match for you in the bar though!!Cheers...Again it's Ethel!!
