Congratulations to Sascha and the other medalists
I find the Olympic tennis really emotional - London 2012 was where it all began for Andy's big wins, breakthrough at the highest level. Then retaining it in Rio, something unique to him... 9 years reigning champ....but nothing lasts forever so well done to Sascha, I'm sure it means the world to him and a worthy heir - he kept his head when others were losing theirs

I am glad Zverev seems to have finally sorted his serve - zero double faults in the final!

Only 3 players have won Olympic gold and the WTF. Alexander Zverev, Andre Agassi and, of course, Andy Murray.

Let us hope Sascha can go on now to win a Slam

Zverev certainly was impressive, glad he backed up the win over Djokovic and Khachanov was constantly on the defensive and never really did settle. Whilst not the best of finals still seen a great performance. A bit of a contrast to the 2016 final.though best of 3 throughot this time. Hopefully Sascha gains confidence from this , though will be tougher in the slams.Pity no ranking points for the Olympics now, though suppose that is not the reason for playing. Sure it means a lot to Zverev, certainly did to Andy before him.

Rublev/Pavlyuchenkova d Karatsev/Vesnina 13-11 in the mtb to take gold. Gold and silver to the ROC aka I can't believe it's not Russia. Find ROC presence in the games pretty galling tbh - cost Joe and Heather a spot.

I thought I read that the final was going to be best of 5 sets again. Obviously not….

Just my view but I really think that in the doubles events they should have limited it to one team per country to give wider representation. It ended up with Croatia fielding 2 teams in Mens and ROC fielding 2 teams in the Mixed and meant other deserving countries couldn't field a team.
+ I think there is some lobbying going on to make the 2024 Paris Games have best of 5 sets for the Mens Singles and Doubles Final. (?and play-off for the Bronze).
Also my view but I think they also need to give ranking points although I realise no other sports have that as part of their Olympic set up.
It's been good to see other athletes supporting their countrymen wherever possible ... feel for those in the last couple of days because the majority will have already gone home to comply with the 48hr rules so there'll be very few left cheering them on!!!

The changes to the format for the Men's Singles final and doubles matches were announced some time ago but may not have widely publicised. https://www.ubitennis.net/2019/04/exclusive-itf-open-allowing-ranking-points-olympics-no-change-eligibility-policy/ Reason given was scheduling issues with the fact that many players will be playing in multiple events, need to see what happens in 2024. Think having best of 5 for Men's Doubles final less likely though (seeing as 3 of the 4 slams do not do that)

Quite enjoyed the tennis I did get to watch. But unfortunately we only got centre court streamed on our CBC website so didn't see a lot and certainly didn't get to see any of the stuff I really wanted to. So that was disappointing. But I did enjoy the medal rounds for the most part.
