LONDON 2012
The best players in the World converge on our capital city for the tennis World Tour Finals.
from Sept 2011
Great news - Andy has now qualified.

Copied over from Golden Lady's post in the R2 match thread.
I know this doesn't belong here but just had an email from Barclays ATP to say that Andy has qualified for London. Excellent news!
Thanks Sally, fantastic news that Andy has qualified earlier than he did last year!
wahey! Well done Andy! That murraycoaster had a very sweet ending indeed :D
Woooooooooohooooooo. I hadn't realised that Andy was so close. :):):)
WELL DONE ANDY!!..........Had'nt even thought about it to be honest!!!
Excellent although unfortunately I can't go this year.
Hm, just checked, there are still no tickets available for the Saturday.

Neil Harman on twitter:
The draw for the WTF will take place live on Sky Sports News at 11.30 am on Tuesday, November 15.
Today on their website the ATP announced that Berdy had qualified and even included a quote from him about having qualified. Then they checked their sums and found that he hasn't qualified yet after all, so they deleted the article. Complete incompetence.
Epic fail tweet bt ATP
Correction and apologies: #Berdych is close, but has not yet qualified for #finalshowdown. Three spots remain up for grabs in Paris. #atp
What if Berdy doesn't qualify? Would be an even bigger boo-boo by them!

Ah! So it must be the "Arithmetically Terribly Perplexing" Tour...
Actually, unless they know more about what is in the water that the players drink than the rest of us, there is another howler on their site when describing Andy's year to date:
"At Roland Garros, Murray became the first man since Henman in 2004 to reach the SFs." ...

Unless Tipsarevic beats Berdych today the final 3 places will be confirmed as Berdych, Tsonga and Fish as Tipsy is the only remaining challenger needing to win Paris to qualify. Even if Tipsy wins two of the expected 3 qualifiers will be confirmed today with Fish and Tsonga qualifying if they win and Berdy qualifying if one of the others also lose. If all 3 lose today then Berdy and Tsonga will be the 2 to be confirmed today.

Berdych did it.
From the ATP Home Page (they finally got it right):-
Tomas Berdych (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/Players/BA47.aspx), Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/Players/T786.aspx) and Mardy Fish (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/Players/F339.aspx) will complete the singles player field at the 2011 Barclays ATP World Tour Finals (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/Tournaments/London-Finals.aspx), to be held November 20-27 at The O2 in London, featuring the world’s Top 8 singles players and doubles teams.
All three players were guaranteed their place among the world’s Top 8 following results at the BNP Paribas Masters (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/Tournaments/Paris.aspx) in Paris on Thursday after Berdych defeated Janko Tipsarevic (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/Players/T742.aspx). Berdych, Tsonga and Fish join a star-studded line up including Novak Djokovic (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/Players/D643.aspx), Rafael Nadal (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/Players/N409.aspx), Andy Murray (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/Players/MC10.aspx), Roger Federer (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/Players/F324.aspx) and David Ferrer (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/Players/F401.aspx) at The O2 in London.

Looking forward to the WTF so much! Really think Andy is gonna win it, I have a good feeling about it. Im almost certain that Andy and Rafa are going to be in the same group. I don't even need to wait for the draw to know that! I don't rate Berdych all that much but i'll be honest and say i want to avoid him in the RR!
would love to see berdych and tsonga in andy's pool, excitement galore, it's time andy found a way to beat tommy
I don't think Berdy will be a problem for Andy at the 02 - hopefully the court will be faster than Paris and Andy will be more rested and niggle free.
would love to see berdych and tsonga in andy's pool, excitement galore, it's time andy found a way to beat tommy
According to the Group Standings on the Barclay's page
Group A
1 Rafa
2 Novak
3 Berdych
4 Fish
Group B
1 Roger
2 Andy
3 Tsonga
4 ferrer.
Don't know how accurate that is.
The draw isn't being done till Wednesday - that must be last year's.
It said 2011 and Fish was not there last year but Roddick and Sorderling were.
Yeah, I just realised that and deleted my post! How strange.

Probably the ATP tour website making yet another mess of things.
I can only think they're doing a 'dry run' to check the results page is working.
The Draw is definitely scheduled for Monday.
If, when it is done, it is the same as what Rouge has posted there are going to be some very red faces about the place.

Surely the groups wouldn't be decided already , according to the schedule (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Finals/2011/Schedule/Schedule-Landing.aspx) draw is in Monday the 14th.
They've now said today that the draw will be live on Tuesday at 12.30 on Radio 5 Live.

I heard that too - so why on earth is the site showing Monday 14th?
I think they are still 'building' the information but you'd think they'd have the sense to do so on a test site and not on the open one!!!
I've just tweeted Steven, Stu and Neil Harman. Will be interesting to see comments ...
;)
They previously said 11.30am on Sky Sports News. They might change it again yet!
NB that arrangement of the groups can't be right, because Rafa and Nole shouldn't be in the same group.

They are obviously setting it up and testing things out and haven't got the nous to do it behind the scenes!!!

Organised chaos  You'd think they'd at least nknow 1 and 2 can't be in the same group!
So who would people choose for Andy's group. I assume its 1st & 2nd in different groups, 3rd & 4th split, 5th & 6th split and 7th & 8th split. In that case unless there are any early withdrawls its pick one from each of thes pairs
Djokovick & Nadal
Ferrer & Tsonga
Berdych & Fish
I think my ideal group for Andy from these choices would be Djokovic, Ferrer and Fish what is anyone elses thoughts?

Definitely. The name Fish doesn't bring up good memories, but his fitness is in question.

Yes, this would be my choice too.
I think it's 1st & 2nd in different groups but the others are just random?
All of them would be tough matches. These are, after all, the 8 best players in the world - so we can't expect any easy matches.

Although on a good day Andy can beat any of them , we need to hope his killer instinct is in evidence most of the time. :tennis:

Not sure about that Linda - I think it has always been 1/2 in different groups, then 3/4 on opposite sides and the rest random but I may be wrong.

Agree Pat! I remember how worried we were last year for Andy's first match with Sod and he came out and thrashed him!
I do think that should Andy meet Berdy in the group stage he will prevail this time.
Yes I think he'd beat Berdy if they met at the wtf too - he'd raise his level of play. Andy was so close this week and he can play much better.
It'll be the first time Andy's not had to face Federer in the group stages - given how well Federer plays in London, not a bad thing really. Not sure whether I want Andy to be in a group with Novak or Rafa. On current form (if his injury is still bad) then Novak would be the easier match in the RR stage, but I don't really fancy Andy meeting Rafa in yet another semi-final!

Mind you it is always a match worth watching, the atmosphere in the arena last year was unbelievable. Will miss it this year.
There have been a few articles in the last couple of days saying that Rafa also has a shoulder injury.

What is the problem, if it's not the shoulder, it's the glut. Come boys, do not disappoint us. Take care and good health all.
I am assuming that the draw taking place on Tuesday will not only include the groupings of the players, but also details/ dates of all the round-robin matches. Do any of you know if this would be a correct assumption?

I never join in these guessing games as I say if he is going to win he has to beat everybody. We know he can do that on a given day. So come what may .........let's go Andy, let's go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
my ideal group would include berdych and tsonga, for excitement, nole, if he is fit. i want some exciting matches, and put the hex on fedX, tho wouldn't put it past him to get the title again this year, in his super smooth glide into the future
oh, and by the way, if rafa or nole aren't fit, andy will be ranked 2, and then he might have fedX in his pool!!! what fun that would be!! bring it on,amuse me!!!

I went onto the Andy Murray official website to see if they had yet put up anything about his schedule in January (they hadn't) and noticed that on the information about the WTF, they had put Andy's rank at the start as #5. . .:shamed::shamed::shamed:
And for last year, it states "RR" when he got to the semis!

Thats what happened last year - at least for the first 2 days.
What happens if Djoko withdraws ? Presumably Tipsy takes over - seem to remember that's why Soderling was in 2 years ago in place of ARod. It would be great if Andy was promoted to 2 - bet he would manage to get Fed in his section though.

Once the draw is done we will know the first round matches as 1 or 2 will play 7 or 8 and 3 or 4 will play 5 or 6. However, second round matches will not be known until first round played as is winners v winners and losers v losers within each group.
But we'll know who is playing on which days. If Andy plays on Sunday, then he also plays Tuesday and Thursday. But if he starts on Monday, then he also plays Wednesday and Friday.
When will we find out which days each group are playing? Really hoping they stick to the usual trend of andy playing on sunday afternoon

SSN showing Group A - Djokovic, Murray, Ferrer and Berdych
Group A: Djokovic, Murray, Ferrer, Berdych
Group B: Nadal, Federer, Tsonga, Fish
Every RR match is winnable for Andy. Come on, let's go!
so, andy will play djo, berdych and ferrer, three of my four picks came in
so will the first games be djo v berdych, and andy v ferrer?
Not sure about that Harriet. Does anyone know when they announce the first day's OOP?
they are so spectator unfriendly that i wouldn't put it past them to post first OOP on that day!
Andy will play on Sunday - no announcement yet as to whether it will be the afternoon or evening session.

The BBC are showing the afternoon sessions and the Final per Piers Newbury on Twitter:
Live coverage of each afternoon singles and the final on BBC2 & online, all singles on 5 live Sports Extra. bbc.in/2UUdzE (http://t.co/mIkUQC1P) #bbctennis (http://twitter.com/#!/search?q=%23bbctennis)
Also from the Beeb notes about (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/15739037.stm) the draw:
Djokovic and Nadal, as the top two seeds, were kept apart in the draw, as were third-ranked Murray and fourth seed Federer.
Ferrer and Tsonga, as the fifth and sixth best players in the word were also separated, as were seventh and eighth-ranked Berdych and Fish.
Until there is OFFICIAL confirmation of the OOP this is the planned schedule BUT I am not sure which group plays first so Days 1/2, 3/4, 5/6 could be reversed.
Day 1: Group A to start???
If so the likely matches (1 day, 1 night) are [1] Djokovic vs ?, [3] Murray vs ?
Day 2: Group B on 2nd day???
If so the likely matches are [2] Nadal vs ?, [4] Federer vs ?
Day 3: Group A winners play each other, Group A losers play each other
Day 4: Groub B winners play each other, Group B losers play each other
Day 5: Group A players play the player they haven't yet played in their group
Day 6: Group B players play the player they haven't yet played in their group
Day 7: Winner of Grp A plays the R/Up of Group B, Winner of Grp B plays the R/Up of Group A.
Day 8: Winners of the matches on Day 7 play.
Each Day session has 1 doubles and 1 singles match. Ditto night session.
Until the OOP is out it's impossible to know who will be on the day or night sessions or who they'll play.
The Beeb did say they would cover every match - singles and doubles.

If that's the case I may not see Andy either. We have tickets for both matches on Tuesday and the Wednesday afternoon session so if Andy kicks off on Monday I only have a 50% chance.
Having said that, the only top ten player I have never seen play live is Rafa so I'll have that compensation
If this OOP is true then I'm gutted as it means I won't get to see Andy play - we always go on the first Sunday! :(
However, the only compensation is that literally ALL the other players I actually want to see are in the other group - guess I'll just have to scout the practice courts and see if I can spot Andy there... :)

Sunday 20 November 2011 - Group B
12:15: Doubles
14.00: Federer vs. Tsonga

Monday 21 November 2011 - Group A

14.00: Murray vs. Ferrer
18:15: Doubles
20.00: Djokovic vs. Berdych
Thereafter, but subject to issue of daily OOP to confirm who plays day/night sessions.

Day 5: Group B players play the player they haven't yet played in their group
Day 6: Group A players play the player they haven't yet played in their group
Day 7: Winner of Grp A plays the R/Up of Grp B, Winner of Grp B plays the R/Up of Grp A.

Ummm, someone correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure that last year I only had to produce my ticket to gain access to the Arena. Everywhere else is open to the general public (for exhibitions, cinema, food/drink etc) at the O2 so if you lived in London you could sit and watch the practice sessions for most of the day!!! There were 3 courts last year - 1 about halfway along towards the Arena and a pair much closer.

Group B: Nadal, Federer, Tsonga, Fish
It was always going to be tough either way but on balance i'd rather Andy was in this field in the initial stages. Though of course we can't count on it Nole may not be 100% early on and whilst Andy had that unfortunate loss to Berdy I'm sure he can gain revenge. Due to the rankings he was always going to avoid Fed anyway.

I think it has only been mentioned once in the posts so far, if I read correctly, but I think there is a possibility that a reserve player will have to be used at some point, given the condition and injury record this season of some players coming in to the tournament.
This could influence the group stage and, who knows, even the later stage. Whether that will be good or bad for Andy, I do not know, but it is certainly a wrinkle that should not be forgotten.
Such is my dedication to the Murray cause that I've now stuck my Sunday tickets up on eBay and have already purchased tickets to see Andy vs. David Ferrer on the Monday - my hope being that the sale of these will fund seeing Andy. :)
As much as I'd love to see the others (in fact EVERY other player I'd like to see aside from Andy is playing on Sunday), no player even comes close to Andy for me - I've been very sad at the thought of missing out on seeing Andy and so today resolved to do something about it! ;)
I won't list the tickets here in case they breach any forum rules, but I hope it's OK for me to say that if anyone was interested in buying / bidding on these, please feel free to send me a PM. :) (Sincere apologies if I'm not supposed to say this.)
UPDATE: The tickets sold within 10 minutes!!! Very happy with this result - Andy here I come!! :cheer:
Take care... :)
Wish I could see the Andy/Ferru match, but I'll be at work so won't even be able to see it on the TV  Hope those of you that are going have a great time!
wonderful HenFan , hope you enjoy every minute !!!! and of course Andy wins :cheer:

OK - well I get to see Rafa and Tsonga play - and just have to hope that Andy comes on in the afternoon match on wednesday. That, however, is unlikely as I suspect he'll be playing Novak which will be scheduled for the evening.
Ah well - have to be home in time for Sky Sports !!!
Guess I'm just lucky to see 6 out of the 8.........but I will miss Andy
You might be lucky. Andy played Federer on the Tuesday afternoon last year - I was there - and I think we expected that to be scheduled for the evening. So fingers crossed! And of course Djokovic could lose as well on Monday?
I was hoping Andy would be on Sunday or Monday night. Will miss his match due to work.
BBC is commissioned to play one match per day and it's on at 2PM daily and if match last after 5PM one has to go on the Red Button. Hence Andy plays @ 2PM so us fans can see him.

Glad it worked out for you Henfan!
Andy has a new kit for the 02 - he's back to blue with a variation of the pringle pattern from last year. I have to say I prefer it to his red outfit.
http://tennisconnected.com/home/2011/11/15/andy-murray-world-tour-finale-adidas-kit-availability/
not really liking that , was hoping for the red or the black , but dont really care what he wears , just want him to play well !!!!
Just from a quick look at the pic I feel a bit disappointed. I'm not too keen on the 'wet look' top with the jazzy 'down one sleeve' pattern; and I hope the light blue shorts don't show up sweat patches like some light colours can.
But no matter. Whatever Andy's wearing, hope it proves to be lucky!

I agree about the collar certainly - I've never been convinced he suits the collarless look - not on court anyway!

I wish they hurry up and do something with that Power Station, how about a luxury hotel? or getting those 1million kids without a job to give it a good lick of paint?
Wish I was going this year! It will be the first one I've missed. Saw Andy both previous years.
Decided wimby semis and 3 davis cups should probably do for this year, especially as meant to be moving house. However, now that's fallen through, I really want to be there!! Looked at ticketmaster and they had obviously released some more tickets for the semis, but soooo much money and I would have to pay top whack for train at short notice too ......
Never mind, will watch on TV (sky+ when at work) and console myself with a spot of wine tasting at the Good Food Show :wino:
More tickets released for the semis? Rushes off to have a look . . .
ETA - just looked and no, all that's left for Saturday is hospitality packages for the evening only.
Seats for the final are being resold on Viagogo for £2,299!!!!

I think it was Monday I was looking and they definately had some then - via the world tour finals site ..... but not surprised they have all gone now, Kind of wish I had taken the plunge but face value was still £90 something pounds. Wimby semis were £100 but at least that was 2 singles matches over 5 sets. If I had planned it in the budget, fine, but it would have all been last minute so couldn't do it.
Does anyone know roughly when the afternoon/ evening matches are announced for each day after Monday?
If (for example) Andy beats Ferru and Nole beat Berdy - then when would we know when Andy's match with Nole on Wesnesday is afternoon or evening?

Yes it is only available via digital http://www.bbc.co.uk/5livesportsextra/help/ Fab to see the WTF underway, have a great time tonight!
Hi folks..am pretty excited tonight. Went on twitter which I don't do every day and there was someone offering a ticket for Monday day session...Andy v Ferrer. Husband was out on what he calls "Little boys night out" and what I term "Old Codgers' get together." I got in touch, sorted everything then rang him.:) His response was "Yeah, think we can manage that":worship: So I'm off to the 02 on Monday. Absolutely thrilled. Saw Andy beat David last year so hope for same result. It's so funny how I get tickets. First year bought tickets from Vixs who had another engagement so saw both semis. Last year won a comp and was informed on the day...that was frenetic. And this year twitter has come up trumps. I'm a very happy lady tonight and look forward to seeing other fans from here. Going to get an early train hopefully and will be going home same day. :cheer::cheer::cheer:
This is brilliant! As I said further up in the thread, I had tickets for today (with the sessions that I'm watching on TV right now - which is a bit surreal, LOL!) but sold them so that I could get tickets to see Andy tomorrow! :)
Let's both cheer Andy on to a win against Ferrer tomorrow!! :cheer: :cheer:
Take care... :)
for SOME REASON( I CANT EXPLAIN WHY?) I HAVE NEVER LIKED THE WTF, JUST CANT BRING MY SELF TO RATE IT AS A TOURNAMENT, I WOULD MUCH RATHER ANDY WON A MASTERS TITLE THAN THIS, THO MAYBE ANDY WINNING IT THIS WEEK MIGHT CHANGE MY MIND

Wow, some fightback from Max and Danny in the CTB to decide this.
Bopshi romped ahead to 6-3 but t'others have held and broken to level it at 6-6.
Change of ends and DanMax drop serve, Bops held 1, dropped 1 and it's now 8-7 to them.
Dan/Max to serve to stay in the match.
They hold and go to 9-8 and have a match point!!!
Cracking match to start the event!!!

Looked like Rafa just might stage a recovery but Fish came up with the play to finally level the match. Of course the H2h makes a Nadal win more likely.
