Sorry I haven't been around much but have been watching Andy, and with work and family that doesn't leave a lot of spare time. It is wonderful to read through your posts as we all have supported & believed in Andy for so long. I have never doubted that he will win a slam and his time is VERY close. It is gutting that he lost to Djoko but so pleased with the way he played and i feel he knows what he needs to improve on and can see more clearly what that is. He was soooo close, a couple of shots here & there. We will never know and must now look forward. Soo proud!!! :swingin:
Mr. Lendl seems to give him the stability and leaning board that makes all the difference. I feel his respect for Mr.Lendl is helping with his on court attitude, which in turn is helping with his play and focusing his energy on his game. Looking forward to the rest of the year as always but with even more butterflies and anticipation, good feelings. :jitterbug:
I think he will play Davis Cup if he is fully fit and will enjoy doing so. Really hope he doesn't go to Dubai and takes the penalty (what would that be?) Agree with a lot of you that it seems to make more sense at this stage to spend that time with Mr. Lendl and focus on training.
I am toying with the idea of going to Indian Wells, could do with a break but am also trying to save money so I can retire sooner rather than later, decisions, decisions!!! :help::wino:

Totally agree with your post, Genbrit

Quite a few people I know go to IW each year, and they love it. I wish I could go. If you have the opportunity, do go

I've put a link to the interview on the Rafa thread.

I think Fed slipped off the radar some time ago - I've just realised that he hasn't beaten Rafa in a slam since Wimbly 2007!!!! Nearly 5 years ago!!!!

Actually, Castle and Lloyd did mention it on Friday. I hadn't realised it was the case and was fairly astounded!

I understand the thinking behind the Roger comment, and the irony is that Roger is in danger of getting a "three set king" label that Andy has had to deal with, but I would not count him out completely for the USO because Rafa's knees may not be functioning very well at that point, and with his luck with the draw Nole or Andy might be facing him just 24 hours after another five set marathon!

PS Interesting stat in BBC article which I had not realised..... Nole and Rafa are meeting for the third consecutive GS final, which is an open era record!

You wouldn't think that by the reaction of all the media/tennis critics when he won Basel, Paris and WTF late last year.

In the Pre-Aussie review on Eurosport they kept harping on about the possibility of Fed being No1 again too . They said Nole couldn't have as good a year and there were doubts about Rafa, whilst Andy didn't get much of a look in. Right now looks as if they'll be a bit out on that one! Though I suppose we can't discount Roger completely.

Maybe not completely, but i think the other 3 are in a better place just now and would be very surprised.

It was Andy who started it ... IIRC when he gave his winners speech in Brisbane.
He did all the usual thank-you's and then mention 'Mr Lendl' and looked at his team but Ivan had gone already.

You never know what is around the corner so live each day as if it were your last and go and cheer your heart out for Andy at IW. I know too many people who've had fatal illnesses within a year of retiring to be able to suggest anything else.

just a question why does everyone refer to Ivan as Mr Lendl? There was was none is of this standing on ceremony for Mr Maclagan I don't. To me he is Ivan or Lendl.....watched him play many times (TV) as I did Mac and Connors, Agassi and Laver etc etc and have never referred to them as Mr..... It's probably because Andy referred to him as Mr Lendl. Perhaps it's tongue in cheek on the part of some.:big grin:

Check out the post match on-court interview with Andy post Brisbane final here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QdUoBZZqzBA) At 7 minutes 33 seconds Andy calls Ivan Mr Lendl. We all thought that was lovely and showed the respect and what a great guy Andy is! Or it was just for a laugh. Either way ;) So since then some of us refer to him as Mr Lendl.

Thanks for the advice - went for a lay down and when I got up, hubbie has been looking up campgrounds for the motorhome. He really wants to get away for a couple of days - I hold back a little as he doesn't really like tennis & I feel a little selfish but we shall see!! ;)

In response to the Mr or not Mr Lendl comments. It is funny I was typing out my comments before and put "Lendl",when I reread it I thought I need to change this and added "Mr." I was smiling to myself as I did it & thinking of Andy & his on court interview. Supergran, I think there is some "tongue in cheek" :big grin:

Mine too, Traveller. His 'sublime' run at the end of the year flattered to deceive as all the other big boys were either crocked or exhausted - not that you would have know that from the journo hype. If he begins to slip down the rankings I can't see him staying around much after this year, especially when the Olympics are out of the way. He's made no bones about being after the gold medal - can't see him getting it personally but as it is at Wimbledon you just never know- I'll go into sackcloth and ashes if he does!ah there in lies the problem, think he with remain fourth of the big four for awhile as they are heads and shoulders above the rest of the ttour

I agree Zainab. I saw it as Andy's first on court reference to him and so addressed him as Mr Lendl - as he did to John McEnroe shaking hands at the net after a match when he was young. Respectful then - respectful now - no surprise.
