Need some help folks: My daughter-in-law along with her daughter are going to Wimbledon on the final Saturday. They have tickets for No 1 Court. Neither has been before so they need some advice. They will be driving from the NW on the Friday and camping at Wimbledon. They know absolutely nothing re what to do etc and neither do I. They would like detailed info re getting to Wimbledon. Something was said about satnav ??...Do they have to reserve camping space, what is the procedure re Saturday morning and their tent, queuing etc????? Looking forward to hearing from experienced campers/Wimbledon regulars. Thanks a lot.

Your daughter-in-law needs to read the Wimbledon website thoroughly regarding 'getting to Wimbledon'. It is very helpful, gives satnav codes and so on and if she reads that first it'll answer a lot of her questions. With regard to your specific queries I'll try to answer this ^^^ logically:-

1. If they have tickets for No 1 Court on Saturday they are assured of getting in. They can arrive any time after 10.30am on that day at the entrance (it should which one on their ticket) and go straight in.

2. So, they don't need to camp on Friday night in the 'queue field' at all. In fact they'd probably be told not to because they'd be using up queue cards and space wanted for those queueing for ground passes.

3. They do need to find accommodation in London for Friday night; somewhere they can easily get across to Wimbledon the next day. There are a couple of options for this given that most local places to SW19 will already be fully booked and/or expensive:-
a) go for a 'chain' e.g. Premier Inn, in South London nearish to Croydon from where they can get either a tram or bus or tube line to make it easy to travel the next day (somewhere with car parking)
b) stay further out of London where accomm might be available and cheaper. They'd have a longer rail/tube journey each day or could drive in. They could get into one of the public car parks (£25/day) or go for the Park and Ride (£15/day) which does a shuttle bus to Wimblers.

QUEUEING FOR SUNDAY TICKETS
Centre court tickets are not available to the public on the last 4 days of the tournament.

You can only queue for ground passes on those days. BUT you can leg it up to the returns ticket office and wait up there (until 3pm!!!) to get £8 tix for Centre, No 1 or No 2 court as they become available.

If you get into the queue early on the Sunday morning (about 7am) you'd probably get a ground pass for that day.

I am not sure if camping is allowed at all on Wed, Thur, Fri or Sat.
I think it is but if so it's deffo only for ground passes and I believe Cts 1 and 2.

Not sure whether you can camp out at the end of the tournament as officially the queues finish on Wednesday, 4th July. However, I remember people queuing to see Andy last year and the year before, so your best might be to ring Wimbledon and ask.
You can still queue for ground passes until the end; and I think camping is allowed but will check.

On Finals Sunday 2007 I arrived in the queue at 12.30pm to be told I probably wouldn't get in until after 5pm when people left after the final finished. I actually got into the ground at 13.10 and went to the returns ticket office queue and stayed up there watching the Final on the big screen. Got a return ticket for Centre Court and was on there to watch Jamie Murray/Jelena Jankovic win the Mixed Doubles Final.

The draw is out! Murray has been drawn in nadal's half - yet again, so presumably will play centre on tue, and i think the other men's match that day could be tsonga-hewitt rather than nadal-bellucci - anyone else think this? And has the resale price gone up from previous years? Didn't it used to be £5?

I think they'd probably put Nadal AND Andy onto Centre Court on Tuesday but I know in the past they've given priority to former Wimbledon champions (i.e. Nadal) and could put Andy on Court 1 (they have before!!!).

Yes, the resale price has gone up. I paid £5 in 2007 but £8 last year so not sure which year it changed. It all goes to charity though so I don't mind. Even on top of a ground pass at £25 it's still the cheapest way to get onto a show court in the second week.

dan94
22-06-2012, 10:50
I've just looked ahead to round 2 and there don't seem to be any hewitt-tsonga type matches which they could put on centre, meaning that murray and nadal will likely get centre for that day, so reducing the chances of them both getting on for both their first and second round matches - still possible i suppose, but less likely now i think. There is also an isner-mahut potential second round match up!

And yes it must have been last year that they changed it as I paid £5 in 2010. Also If I get in the queue monday night having just watched monday's play (so about 9pm or so) will I get a show court ticket for tue or will it be too late?

Thanks

You would almost certainly be too late. You generally have to queue from the morning of the previous day (and so miss seeing all the tennis that day!) if you want to be sure of a show court ticket.

oh right ok, even for court 2, say?

Agree with Linda. The problem with those first few days is that whilst they try to play R1 matches on Mon/Tue it can spill over it there is a rain delay.
It's very likely that Andy will play on Tuesday 26th so you'd need to start queueing by 12noon on Monday 25th to guarantee getting onto Centre or Court 1 to watch him as there are only 500 tickets for each of those courts available for each day thru' to Wed 4th July.

Linda
22-06-2012, 11:09
I don't know about Court 2. You might be lucky for that. I've only ever queued early the previous day for centre court, or early the same day for a ground pass.

Sallydaisy

You might get onto Court 2.

As in my post above there are 500 tickets per day for Centre, Ct1 and Ct2.
So you have to be in the first 1500 queue'ers to be guaranteed a show court ticket.

I am guessing if we haven't received word on our ballot tickets at this late stage then we won't be getting any?

need to start researching camping I guess...!

Welcome to the forum lah1308.

If you haven't received tickets then you will definitely have to queue/camp.
Try looking at the Wimbledon website - header VISIT to see lots of relevant information.
In particular in the A-Z section go to Queue and then TheQueue which is very helpful.
Good Luck!

Which day are you hoping to go?

Thanks for the welcome!

Last year we went on the first Saturday & as we live in Wimbledon we walked up there before first tube (5am) and just got ground passes. Think we were about 2700 in the queue.

We are trying to decide whether it is better to say take Fri off work(full or half day) and queue for the Saturday or if we are better off going after work on Thurs and queueing for the Fri. I guess the first option is gonna be the most sensible. If we get there Fri lunchtime, what are the chances of getting show court tickets for Sat?

The whole camping thing confuses me, what is to stop us going there, setting up camp, getting our queue card and then going home ? I know camping is part of the experience but if we wanted to go home to shower or eat then is it possible?

That's very useful to know for people going this year as it gives a guide as to how early you need to start. Once the tubes start arriving it fills up really quickly I think.

That used to be reasonable but I personally think you'd need to arrive around 9am. That's partly because (a) it's for Saturday when more people are off work and planning to do the same as you and (b) because it's the likely day that both Andy Murray and Rafa Nadal will play R3 matches so popular anyway.

The whole camping thing confuses me, what is to stop us going there, setting up camp, getting our queue card and then going home ? I know camping is part of the experience but if we wanted to go home to shower or eat then is it possible?
I think the stewards check if people are all present and correct and they go around waking everyone from 5.30am onwards (to allow all time to use washing facilities) so you'd have to get back in before then. And I think they might lock the gates overnight and then as people arrive in the morning either dish out queue cards OR ask you where you've been ........

:welcome: lah1308. Lucky you to live so close.

Sometimes you can get a ground pass from late afternoon or early evening. They let more people in as others are going home. You can also go and queue up for resale tickets for Centre Court of Court 1 once you are in. A good day to do that would be if England are playing football as fewer people would be going to Wimbers that day. Apparently a few years ago when England were playing in the World Cup on the first Wednesday it was possible to get a gorund pass earlier in the day without queing much. There were more tickets available the day before on the internet that day too.

lah1308
22-06-2012, 12:55
Indeed and we haven't ever taken full advantage of it, like going after work to pickup the return etc. If the weather is good this year then need to definitely try and go more than once!

What I am tempted to do is go Fri morning, get the queue card, then go for a "walk around" and come back later in the day, they surely can't expect you to stay AT your tent the whole day? Happy to camp overnight but spending 12 hours sitting in a park is just a waste of valuable time :)

Would love it if AM's R3 match was on that Saturday, ESPECIALLY if he meets Kevin Anderson, as his mom is a family friend of ours in SA and we watched him on one of the small courts last year in the doubles so to see him against AM would be....well great!

With the Sat AM queuing, I had friends get there about 8am and they ended up way down the queue and only got in the ground in the mid afternoon!

Linda
22-06-2012, 15:24
The stewards go round the queue looking for empty tents - if they find one, they take it out of the queue. If you need to leave the queue for a short time, e.g. to visit the loo or get something to eat from one of the vendors there, you are supposed to tell your neighbours where you are going.

lah1308
22-06-2012, 15:28
fair enough - that makes sense, was wondering how they implemented it but checking the tents seems fair!

Wimbledon tickets go on sale at Ticketmaster at 12noon today for a limited quantity of 'unwanted' tickets all over the Centre Court for Monday 25th. You'll have to be quick though .....
If you miss it you can try again tomorrow at 09.00hrs for 500 'up in the gods' tickets on Centre.

These times each day are also the ONLY opportunity to buy tickets for Court 3 either one or two days in advance.

Is anyone else going on Tuesday?

I keep trying too because sometimes people reject them after all. I kept on til the message came up that they all had gone! You should have a good day, I reckon it will be out of Andy, Rafa and Tsonga on centre.

Hey guys,
I'm located in France and going with my gf to London for a week on saturday, so I wish i could attend Wimbledon the following week. I had heard of tickets sold on ticketmaster.uk the day (or two days) before each match, so I registered on that website and tried, as a test, to get tickets yesterday and today. I refreshed the page each 30sec before the time the tickets were available, and once it was I straightaway clicked to get some (it was about 30 sec after the tickets went on sale) . I tried everything (buying only one ticket, court n°3, tickets the day before and two days before...) but my attempts have always failed ("sorry, no exact matches were found")... Is this normal? Does it usually happen on that website or is it due to my being located in France, or maybe the website is overcrowded and I should try a little later ? what can I do?
Thank you for your help!

Hello Maxllg and welcome to the forum.
:welcome:

Sorry you are having problems with Ticketmaster. It does get VERY busy on T/master for the few tickets available for Wimbledon and yesterday people in the UK will have been trying to get tickets to watch Andy Murray today especially since he's been put onto Centre Court.

You obviously know what you're doing with Ticketmaster. Have you got an account already set up with them? If you find tickets available that speeds things up once you go into the payment section.
Also, perhaps you need to phone or email them to see if they DO accept bookings from overseas via the website?

We've got more information here (http://www.andymurrayfanforum.com/forums/showthread.php?1141-WIMBLEDON-GENERAL-INFORMATION-Travel-Times-Tickets-Queue-Camping-Parking&p=67667&viewfull=1#post67667) on the forum.

Good Luck! Let us know how you get on.

PS - the other alternative you could consider next week is to queue from early morning (7am onwards) to get a ground pass. It gets cheaper as the week goes on - see prices in this post (http://www.andymurrayfanforum.com/forums/showthread.php?1141-WIMBLEDON-GENERAL-INFORMATION-Travel-Times-Tickets-Queue-Camping-Parking&p=67666&viewfull=1#post67666).

It is v normal, you have to be so quick. I have tried every day and all I have got so far is a couple of back row seats that people have rejected or maybe they ran out of time. Normally I do really well at this but finding it v tough this year!

I don't mind the back row seats - not so good for taking photos but you still get a decent view of the court. If it's hot you're in the shade too ... and if it rains you're under shelter.

Warning for people trying to go to Wimbledon today - it's nearly full.

12.38: If you were planning on heading to SW19 then you best make alternative plans because I'm told gates will close in half an hour and the ground is close to capacity. That what a heady mix of sunshine and Andy Murray does to tennis fans, I suppose. The good news is: live text commentary will continue throughout the day.
From the BBC.

What does this mean if you want to get in on a ground/day pass?

Wimbledon has a 'ground capacity' for safety and fire reasons and they don't ever risk going over that number. It varies from day to day depending on the number of matches in progress/space required for player teams/coaches/family and other factors.

Anyone who had queued overnight for Showcourt tickets will already be in OK. The next 6000 or so who were in the queue will also be in with ground passes. After that the ground capacity depends on how many people actually arrive with pre-booked tickets, debenture holders, all other officials/other staff e.g. police, cleaners, ballboys and players/guests.

Once capacity is reached people are only allowed in as others leave for the day and have their ticket scanned on exit. There's recognised times when this occurs and it's usually after the first matches finish on Centre, One or Two, After that time a lot of those on 'corporate' tickets leave which releases space.

So those in the queue have to sit it out until then ..... anytime from 3.30 onwards.
They don't tend to allow 1's and 2's in but wait for a 'block' of 20+ spaces to come through.

The only consolation is that there are some TV screens located at points along the hedge approaching the security area so people can keep an eye on the scores.

The BBC has also posted this reminder:-

Someone has just given me a nudge and asked me to say: People who can't make it to London can watch all the action from Wimbledon on BBC Big Screens, across the UK. It's a great opportunity to enjoy a fantastic shared experience, locally.
Audiences can locate their nearest screen by clicking on this link. (http://www.bbc.co.uk/bigscreens/)

I tried this morning for returns for Thursday - no joy.
Will get a chance to try for tickets in the Gods tomorrow before heading in for law exam.
After that I will be in remedial shorthand all mornings apart from next Monday (so will try again) but I'd pretty much written off this year because of the Journo diploma.

I actually like the tickets at the back, no issues with photography so far ... and at the end of the day it's a day at the tennis. What more could you want?

RFS

Just snaffled a CC ticket in the great Wimbledon Ticketmaster race.
Downside is... I have to go to do 3 hours of shorthand in the morning, and will leave the house at around 7:15 to get into a FAB off road car park for £5 near school.
As far as I can make out, people working in some NHS building get there anytime from 7:45 and it's normally full (it's only twee) by 8:30.
There I sit, trascribing interviews for my feature until it's time for a spot of full english brekkie (my waistline is suffering) and then... squiggles.

I am going to see how effective it is to park there for the day and come back there late in the evening.
Otherwise it's a bit of a pain to then drive all the way to morden, pay £15 and go home from there but get bussed there.

And it's not feasible to do it the other way round... go to Morden, park and then get to school and back.
(not to mention being hellishly more expensive).

This studying lark and working for myself, and part time (to boot) is really cramping my Wimbledon stylie!

ETA: I suppose the other option is public transport to school, and then to Wimbers from there and then the looooooonng trek back in the evening (especially if I get the 493 from outside which goes to Cornwall first)...

Hi Sallydaisy, Might see you without realising it as I am on Court No.1 too!
Ooops, missed seeing this 'cos I was already 'on the road'. Sorry we didn't get to meet. I had a lot of problems 'cos i'd left my walking stick at home so couldn't get around very quickly and ended up staying in my seat once I'd got there.
It was a good day there wasn't it?

Hello Missglitter - welcome to the forum!
:welcome:

You are given a queue card as you arrive at Wimbledon Park and before you join the queue.
If you arrive at night with a tent they'll just allocate you a space at the end of those already there.
Sounds as though you are planning to camp for 2 nights (Mon/Tues) ready for Wednesday.
You keep the same card throughout your time in the queue until you get to Gate3 to buy tickets.
You should deffo get Centre tix if you want them.
Good Luck.

There is a whole thread here (http://www.andymurrayfanforum.com/forums/showthread.php?1141-WIMBLEDON-GENERAL-INFORMATION-Travel-Times-Tickets-Queue-Camping-Parking&p=73349&viewfull=1#post73349) with more information on tickets, queueing, camping and transport.

I have a spare ticket for Ct 1 on Sun 8th-Mens Final Day, as the friend who is coming with me to the Mens Semis on the Friday is unable to stay on in London.
Means entrance to the grounds too, without queuing - so presumably watching Mens Final on Big Screen frm the Hill, rather than staying on Ct 1, is an option.

Would anyone like to come with me on the Sunday? - & if so, any ideas re accommodation for the Sat & Sun evenings. (Wld need to get back North on the Mon).

Plse pm me if ur interested.

It must have been just AWESOME to be there to see the match 'live'.
I know a couple of people who had groundies yesterday; one queued from about 2pm and got onto Centre by 7pm and the other queued from 6pm and got in at 8pm in time to watch from the 2nd set.

We might see how the day pans out and if there is play (the forecasted breeze might blow the rain away!) we might queue for Ct 1 tix at Resale.

I'll PM you my mobile number if you want to meet to say hello over a HOT drink (it's not going to be warm tomorrow!).

Plus I was hoping to be rocking the @TennisNewsTPN Twitter account as well, and will probably write up some transcript copy.

I am still in a dilemma as to whether to try for tickets in the gods over the week or just focus now on my shorthand and my portfolio.

Still - 2 trips in a year where I walked out of a well paid (for that read tennis-funding) job is something to be thankful for.
But WHERE did I put the golfing umbrella.
Come to think of it, where did I put the golf clubs, where the 'brella usually lives!

The weather really isn't looking good for tomorrow! Rain all day apart from 1 till 2 according to BBC weather. I was planning on queueing for 4th july for men's quarters, but if they don't get play finished tomorrow, what implications will that have for the rest of the week? Will some women have to play 4th round and their QF on tuesday? They'd have to put a lot of matches on centre, and/or start earlier than 1pm. Or will women's quarters be on wednesday perhaps? The forecast doesn't look good at all for the next three days. So do people think that men's quarter-finals will still take place on wednesday?

I think a couple of the Mens Quarter Finalists will be thru' tomorrow and probably have a couple of days wait whilst the other 14 try to play their matches and end up with not much of a break at all.

I doubt they will make players play 2 matches on the same day.

With rain forecast today and tommorrow (but not overnight :grrr:) I should think there will be backlogs and I should think it will play havoc with the tournament schedule. There is a limit to the number of players they can cram onto Centre, even if they start play on Centre earlier tomorrow. My guess is that tomorrow they will spread all the Monday's singles players who did not play, across the courts early on so they are all to play at the same time.

I wouldn't be surprised if they have the final next week rather than Sunday.

dan94
02-07-2012, 10:37
Yes I'm starting to think a third monday isn't totally outside the realms of possibility now - we'll have a much better idea of how things are going to pan out at the close of play today I'd expect. When the French Open final extended to a third Monday, tickets from the Sunday were valid, is that because the final started on Sunday and they just finished it on Monday? Will we expect 15,000 tickets to be released on the turnstiles if the entire final is played on Monday?!

cazza99
02-07-2012, 11:00

I have just tried for tickets for Friday, is it just me or does anybody else find the security words difficult to read.
Also can you advise me on how long I should keep trying, I tried for about 20 minutes just now

I tried for half an hour the other day for returns 2 days ahead (just as you have done).

I don't think I imagined this ... but something I noticed was that the 'go back' button was green for a while but then after about 25mins it was red and I think that probably means there's absolutely nothing left.

You might do better trying at 9am tomorrow when there are deffo 500 tickets up in the Z's.

Nope.

Using Ticketmaster to try for seats on Friday 6th you have to try:-
12.00 today Wed 4th for returns (tix sold/debentures which are unwanted)
09.00 hrs tomorrow Thurs 5th for reserved seats in the extra spaces on Centre

NB.
You can only now get Centre Court from Ticketmaster.
Court 3 seating is non-reserved for the last 6 days of the Championships because fewer and fewer premium matches at put on there. Mostly being used for Mixed and other doubles events.

Yes, it used to be 20.00 the night before for the 'reserved' seats and I think it was 14.00hrs for the 'returns' 2 days ahead. I think they changed it last year but don't have my records to check that.

No problem. I might need to add that bit about the button colour to the big posts in the 'how to get into Wimbledon' thread here. (http://www.andymurrayfanforum.com/forums/showthread.php?1141-WIMBLEDON-GENERAL-INFORMATION-Travel-Times-Tickets-Queue-Camping-Parking)

Sallydaisy I suppose you haven't got any hints on how to read the security code any quicker???????????????????????????
I think when the Ticketmaster tickets started not so many people knew about it now I suppose with the few tickets available you have to be very lucky to get tickets, although I did wonder what has happened to the RBS tickets that were not going to be used this year

Re the button colours, I found it was red or green depending on which bit of ticketmaster you used. You can either search Wimbledon and hit enter or search Wimbledon and then select the drop down. The sections are slightly different although probably has no bearing on if you are successful.

I found after loads of trial runs the screen refreshed at 7 seconds past 12-yes I am that sad! However even doing this I still didn't get tickets straight away and only after about 10 mins when someone must have given theirs up. I think it is a lot more popular this year as normally I have no problem.

If you really want to get Centre Court tickets for Friday you'd need to be in the queue by 10pm tonight complete with camping kit, books and something to stay warm and dry until you get into the grounds on Friday at 10.30am.

Or be absolutely on the ball at 09.00 hrs tomorrow morning on Ticketmaster (set up an account tonight) and get everyone you know to try for you with your credit card details. But don't say I said that.

Sallydaisy how do you set up an account please

You need to go to the Ticketmaster website and follow the instructions in the 'register' section.

One tip - if you can try to use a credit card that doesn't need Clicksafe verification.

If, on the day, tickets are available you'll be sent to the payment page and that's when it saves time to have an account set up. There's a limit to the time you have so needing to go thru' the clicksafe bit as well makes it even more nerve-wrecking!

Just need to check the bank account, lol!
£105 per ticket for Centre court on Friday + a £5.50 booking fee per ticket.
:phew:

£120 for Sunday + the fee.

Just got back from Wimbledon. I had No.1 Court tickets and after the Tsonga match literally ran round to Centre and managed to get 2 tickets, so rang back to Court 1 to get my partner and we saw the last 3 games of Andy's match. We saw just behind and to the left of Andy's box. Have to keep everything crossed that he gets to the Final on Sunday.

I thought you couldn't queue for the semis or final?

Never noticed the different coloured 'go back' buttons, but I am very unobservant, especially when it comes to colours. Some shades of red and green look exactly the same.

Re the illegible word (capcha or whatever it's called) - most of the time I can't read them. There is a button to be given a different one, and often it is easier than the original one they give you. Also I think they allow you one wrong letter as I'm sure I've sometimes got it wrong but it's still accepted it. You have to get the right number of letters though - this last time I had a word where the letters were so mixed up that I couldn't even see how many letters there were and my attempt at that one was rejected.

You can still queue for ground passes and leg it up to the Resale booth to queue for tix?

They do indeed; it's exactly what I did on Finals Sunday 2007. Got onto Centre after the Mens Final to watch Jamie Murray win the Mixed Doubles title. It was so weird then without any roof at all.

Was anyone else successful with the back row seats this morning? (or was anyone else already due to go tomorrow anyway? - it'd be good to know who else is going to be there)

Sales opened at least 10 seconds early but my computer froze just as they did. I rebooted then rather forlornly went back in and tried again ... and got lucky! I guess someone must have decided the ticket price was too much and dropped their order at just the right moment.

I still can't quite believe it, and I have already checked the email half a dozen times to make sure they really are Centre Court tickets, it really says Friday and I didn't buy tickets for today or Saturday by mistake!

I was there for the 2009 and 2010 semis too, so I'm hoping it'll be 3rd time lucky!

At least I won't be tempted to shout out "pretend he's French" this time (oh, the shame ... but in my defence, at least it wasn't done at a crucial time or seconds before someone was about to serve), for the good reason that Andy won't have to pretend this time.
