There is swearing but not as much imo as you can get on tv nowadays e.g. in the recent series on the Hatton Garden robbery as an example. The sex is brief I thought and fairly tame by today's standards. The drugs clearly play a part but again it is not difficult to watch. I recently saw the film with Olivia Colman playing Queen Anne which I hated (name escapes me just now ). I found that vulgar and gratuitous swearing and sex with limited relevance to the story. We know Elton's life is not angelic but I didn't feel it was excessive. The cinematography and music scenes are what I remember. Each to our own though :)

I went to see Rocketman yesterday and I was really worried given Elizabeth's statement but I didn't find it that bad at all. And I loved the rest of the film - I was very sceptical about Taron doing all the singing but it really worked and I loved how they changed up the songs and arrangements, loved all the musical fantasy elements. What I don't like is them changing facts. His surname came from Long John Baldry NOT John Lennon. Hmmmm. I know why they made the change but I still don't think they need to. Also, some of it reminded me of Bo Rhap e.g. the first meeting with the record exec being negative, etc. There were a couple of cheesy bits: Elton as a kid bursting into song outside his childhood home but I got used to that format quickly and it actually worked really well in the rest of the movie. Also I don't think the bit with Elton's wife was handled properly either. However, I loved how much Bernie Taupin was featured - it was really a love song to him in the end imho. Just like with the members of Queen you really felt the love and respect between them. And I'm so glad Elton made it and didn't go the same way as Freddie; he really did so much with his life esp. the AIDS fundraising and awareness.

I'm just back from seeing a documentry film on John McEnroe. I'm not a particular fan either now or then - in fact hated him back in the day when I was a child but I think many of you would enjoy the film. A good analysis of the mind of a player not just him. I've attached a link https://youtu.be/bLCD5Fl_nY4
I saw it at an arty cinema and I think it actually came out last year but no doubt will be on tv at some point.
Two weeks ago, I went with my sister to see The Current War. I'd already heard about it not getting good reviews. The woman gave us our tickets and claimed they were for the second row. In fact, they were front row tickets and we had to strain our necks to watch the film. Also, while we sat there, I could feel a cold draught coming through the bottom of the screen. My sister later told me that she'd felt it as well. The camera work was dodgy in some scenes, as it looked like the camera had been hand held with a shaky hand. It felt a bit glossed over on the story of Thomas Edison, Nikola Tesla and George Westinghouse. It felt like 'here are three men playing three famous men and this is what they did'.

Saw Blinded by the Light' at the weekend. The story of an Asian teenager, growing up in Luton in the 80's-90's. He yearns to be a poet but feels restricted by his environment. He discovers the music of Bruce Springsteen, and is able to find common ground in Springsteen's music and background, and his own situation. Its a very enjoyable film, you don't need to be a big fan of Bruce to understand the main character's reaction to the music and lyrics, and the performances from the cast are good. Do yourself a favour and go see it.
As my sister had seen all of the series, I went with her to watch Downton Abbey two weeks ago. Though, I'd never watched it, it felt like I had and knew all the characters. We found it to be funny in parts and there was a rumour that they might make another one.

I went to see Downton Abbey and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had watched all the series which were great. I think the film has been left in a way that there could be another film - I do hope so.

Sorry Fiona I didn't mean to put anyone off but I just hate swearing as I feel there are enough words in the dictionary to cover all events - that's just me!!! The film was very good and I did enjoy it.

Going to see Downton tonight.

I hate swearing too but I've noticed it's becoming so much more prevalent. For example, last night I watched the new British series Pennyworth - full of f and c words. And don't get me started on Fleabag. Honestly, I don't understand the need.

I saw the biopic "Judy" (about Garland not Murray) last Saturday night and thought it was excellent.
It captured really well the late 60s in London when the music scene was shifting.
Renee Zellweger is amazing in the title role, good performances from the supporting cast.
And just about everyone in the cinema joined in singing "Somewhere over the Rainbow".
;)
I saw 'Judy' last Sat too, Sally. Totally agree with all you say about it, except I found the ending very powerful and I wept copiously. My reaction took me by surprise: I haven't felt that strength and depth of emotion after a film since I saw Bambi when I was 5! I cried buckets then.
As it was my sister's birthday, yesterday, I treated her for us to go and watch Judy. We arrived during the adverts and had to find our seats in the dark. Shortly, after the film started, the staff were still allowing people to walk in. I found it off putting, as the door was a bit squeaky. As the wall was very thin, I later heard something being played on the next room's screen. I tried to enjoy the film, while having to sit next to a cold draught and someone slurping their drink behind me. I already knew that she had died in London around the time that I was born, so I already knew the ending. It seemed to be sad that she had a tragic life.
As I wanted to see The Aeronaunts, I had to go by myself as my sister wasn't interested. I went to see it on the 16th of this month and found it to be an okay film. I know, in real life, it was about James Glaisher and Henry Coxwell going up in a balloon. But, whoever decided to make the film, thought it wouldn't be popular having two men doing it which is probably why Felicity Jones's character, who was actually based on a real French woman, have her in the film instead.
saw Blinded by the Light this week, loved it, came out with a big grin. but what a struggle he had to break clear of his dad, "You are Pakistani, you will never be British" without being cast out of the family and breaking his mother's heart. an insightful film, plus the music. i recommend it, go see it.

Glad u enjoyed BBTL. Being a big Springsteen fan I was unsure whether the film was just using his music to draw people in without any relevancy to the film itself. But I'm glad to say that the story was strong enough and the songs added extra weight.
Was dragged to Frozen 2 yesterday by my daughter. Not a patch on the first one but enjoyable enough.
Just saw JoJo Rabbit. Absolutely fantastic.
I went to see 1917, last Saturday, as I knew my sister usually doesn't want to watch the films that I want to see. I thought it was very good and realistic.

I recently saw Lion again. Brilliant imo. Amazing story.
I went with my sister, last Wednesday, to see The Personal History of David Copperfield. We both thought it was very funny and very good. I think it should have done better than getting the one nomination at the BAFTAs for best supporting actor for Hugh Laurie.
One of our cinemas will be showing Riverdance on the 3rd March. I was thinking of asking my sister if she thought it would be a good idea to take our mum to go and see it, as she loves Irish dancing as a present for mother's day. Luckily, our dad won't want to come as he just behaves like a little child now, due to his Alzheimer's disease and cares more for the TV.
Went to see what all the fuss was about re the Best Picture Oscar winner, Parasite.
Really enjoyed it.

I shall be watching that on the plane trip to Vancouver today. Followed by Once upon a time in Hollywood.
Last Saturday, I went to see Parasite. I had hoped I would go with my sister, but she had to work and then felt too tired to join me. I was joined by another five or six people to watch it. I found it to be very funny, in places, and violent at the end. I could understand why it won a BAFTA and Oscars.

In tribute to Chadwick Boseman, I watched '42' again on Saturday. Its a biopic about Jackie Robinson, the first African-American to play in Major League baseball. And here we are, nearly 75 years on, and colour is still an issue, although not directly connected to sport. Its an enjoyable film, with a fine performance from Boseman as Jackie Robinson. You don't need to understand baseball to watch it, its more about the man and the times.

My sister and brother in law also raved about 42 yesterday to me.
As my sister doesn't have a mask, she couldn't come with me to the cinema last Sunday. There weren't many people there to watch Memories of Murder. I thought it was very good. Though it was based on a true story, I think it wasn't supposed to be funny which it was in the beginning. I did find it quite violent, so I think my sister would have been pleased to have missed it as she doesn't like anything too violent.
I went to see the new Bill & Ted, and wished I hadn't.

I saw that a couple of weeks ago on telly. I read the book about a year ago. I didn't think it was terrible but I know what you mean.
I have not been to the cinema now since February. I cannot believe it. Looking forward to the new Bond movie in Nov.

I only go to the cinema once a year on holidays in the Lake District and on the school trip at Christmas
Can’t see it happening this Christmas ☹️

It's not my favourite thing to do. Actually I think the less we've gone the less we think of going. My brother doesn't like going in to the dark and since he came to live with us we haven't really gone much. When he has a holiday (respite) it's for us to go away on a break and the rest of the time we don't go out without him :) It's different when we have our lake district holiday, that's with a crowd, including our grown up kids and we make a night of it.
I take it you go quite often? Normally!
I went and saw Psycho, yesterday, as it was celebrating its 60th anniversary and I'd never seen it. There didn't seem to be many people, who watched it with me, which was a bit of a shame. But, I did enjoy it.

Normally not that often if I'm being that honest. Only if it's a really good movie. Haven't been to the cinema since February. They are open now but limited and showing old movies. I think cinemas may go the way of the newspaper eventually.
I'll be seeing Spencer tomorrow. But, has anyone seen King Richard? I've been told, Will Smith is quite good at playing Richard Williams. Apparently, Serena and Venus Williams were the advisors during the making of the film.
I don't go to the cinema now. As a child, the market stall my mother worked on displayed a poster of films to be shown (3 changes a week) at one of the 12 cinemas in and around Warrington at that time for which they got 2 free tickets weekly and my mum and I used the freebies regularly. As I got older, I took a mate and remember watching East of Eden starring James Dean there. I went to see all the early Bond films (sorry Daniel, not seen any of your's even on tv!) and all the musicals. Happy days! Now I'd need sub-titles! My son watched the latest Bond in Leeds recently lying on sofas! Sometimes it's hard to believe how much the world has changed! x

No I was thinking about it. I'm not a Williams fan but I know their story is interesting. I saw House of Gucci the other day. Thought it was really good. Had not been expecting it to be as entertaining as it was. Would recommend.

Watched Kodachrome on netflix. Enjoyable 'road' movie about a dying father wanting to make a last journey with his estranged son, to have some film developed at the last working developers in the US, before he dies and it closes for good. Stars Ed Harris and Jason Sudeikis

I watched Sardar Udham last weekend and really enjoyed it. Not easy watching though. had been waiting for it since reading Patient Assassin.
I went to the cinema, on Tuesday, to see The Duke. It's based on a true story and stars Jim Broadbent and Helen Mirren. While I was there, my sister and brother-in-law turned up to watch the same film. We all thought it was very good and funny, in parts. I know they had to cut the story down, as, in a recent interview, Jim Broadbent and Helen Mirren claimed the real Kempton Bunton had kept the painting of the Duke of Wellington hostage for more than six months.
I saw a recorded National Theatre performance of Phillip Pullman's "The Book of Dust: La Belle Sauvage" at the cinema last night. The way they chose to represent the daemons took a bit of getting used to but it was very well done.

Just seen the remake of West Side Story. Think it was even better than the first. Thought Maria was spitting image of Emma Raducanu though. And once I'd thought that, I couldn't unthink it.
And Tony had a slight Zverev look about him (nicer personality though!). If you like this sort of thing, i think you will enjoy it

Saw this over Christmas - really enjoyed it, director did a good job of keeping it 1950s authentic yet also modern in style.
As one of my cinemas was offering tickets at £4 to watch Downton Abbey: A New Era. on Monday, I jumped at the chance to book one as my sister couldn't go. I thought it was very good and funny, in parts, especially when Laura Haddock who plays Myrna Dalgeish in the film suddenly starting speaking in a type of east end London accent. I thought the ending was poignant and did wonder if there would be another one.
I've found out one of my local cinemas will be showing The Lost King (about Phillippa Langley discovering Richard the third) from the 7th October and Emily (about Emily Bronte) from the 14th October. I'm looking forward to seeing them.
I went to the cinema, yesterday, and watched The Lost King. I thought it was quite good, though Sally Hawkins was supposed to have worn a blond wig (Philippa Langley was blonde). It was funny in some parts. I remembered seeing the news clips and then going to Leicester to see Richard the third's coffin and then watching his funeral on the TV. Before Covid turned up, I went to Leicester Cathedral and saw his grave. We were allowed to take photos of it, but without using the flash.
