View Full Version : ATP BRACKET CHALLENGE 2012 - Paris: Now open - Deadline Mon 29th Oct, 10am UK
I, meanwhile, will be having potassium overload!
Although with only 7 points between top and bottom of our group I hold hopes of catching up.
be this time next week before it gets interesting
I don't want to get any points then 'cos I've got Fed winning it!
I'm hoping to do quite well for Miami- Since I scored a poor 76 in Indian Wells, got to make up as many points as I can for circuit position!
Linda, that's where I went wrong last torny, I picked the finalists on who I personally wanted there than who realisticly it would be (Andy/Rafa final in IW would have been awesome:cheer:) Wish I had the guts to pick those I don't want to win as the winner/runner up!
No, not for me, no-one else has my finalists. Either I'm right and win , or wrong and last !! Same for Ace, looking at his ambitious Raonic to win selection
picking BBC is plain nuts, tho birdbrain isnt exactly rational either:barmy:
No, I agree, I was on some particularly potent mind altering drugs when I picked him, though I'd like to try what Ace must have been on in order to pick BBC.BBC out &Dimitrov a set up vs Berdych. Good test here to see if he can get the job done.
time for you 2 to phone your friend ;)

Well he can't. I should have known. I suppose at least he turned up, rather than BBC's no show. I hereby declare to have lost all interest in this Bracket now.
My bracket taking another pasting today. Strangely, the top half of my bracket is not doing too badly but I've hardly got anything right at all in the bottom half.
My bracket taking another pasting today. Strangely, the top half of my bracket is not doing too badly but I've hardly got anything right at all in the bottom half.it dose look rather pink
Ah well, pink is one of my favourite colours!
Ah well, pink is one of my favourite colours!Rosé ;):wino:
Haha - no, I don't like rosé much. My daughter does, in fact the only wine she drinks is rosé. I like dry white or red (having a glass of Penedes at the moment).
Updated the wins for Nishikori and Tsonga but still not updated Andy yet!

virtigo?!
They still haven't updated Andy's walkover win!!!!
Have lost 2 of my quarter finalists. Had Dolgopolov (but Tipsy has less than 6% support and Dimitrov will be lower so that won't cause too much pain) and Isner (definitely need Tsonga to lose that to Mayer for damage limitation as Tsonga has just over 50% support though Tsonga is becoming my muppet of losing when I pick him to go far so this time he'll probably go and even beat Rafa to reach the semis)

How many points do you get for 3rd round wins in the bracket? Still only 1 is it?
2 Points for 3rd round wins
1st and 2nd round wins = 1 point
3rd round wins = 2 points
4th round wins = 4 points
quarter final wins = 8 points
semi final wins = 16 points
final wins = 32 points

Well unfortunately you can't always rely on Nando nowadays!
nando is doing very well in doubles nowadays, but not so well in singles!
Tis a shame, from what I remember he was a great hopeful, a big threat! Also, I had forgotten of his nickname until now too

oh right:) Of course he had a great run at the Austrlian in 2009,though unfortunately he got the better of Andy in that 5 setter.
nando's semifinal match against Rafa in that AO was one of the best matches I have ever seen. Unfortunately nando has never equalled that form since.

 How do you know that?! (the 415 people bit, not fed losing)
Actually I misread the bracket, and 415 is for Fed not reaching the 1/4 finals.
For not reaching the Semi, it's (100-97.3) / 100 * 23055 = 622
97.3% is the figure on the bracket for fed reaching Semi, 23055 = total bracket players.
(Actually, due to rounding, it is probably between 612 and 638 players in fact)

I have him losing in the semi finals so it's probably a good thing for me as I suspect a lot of people had him reaching the final or even had him winning.
I had Fed winning the title so my bracket is finished. Still glad he lost, though.

How do I join it?
This is the Bracket thread!
You make a good point though, I think we need to tidy up our group, and I don't think we can do that without the group creator, so what do people say about starting a new one next year?
I think it makes sense to set up a new group now 'cos it's the beginning of the year + Miami next week.
Who is going to do it?
Since no-one else has, I've created one - called AM.forum password is andyno1 still
feel free to join

Thanks. Have joined.
Had Fed going out in the semis, Nadal/Djoko final with Nadal winning so may still get a decent score. Of course I would be more than happy if a certain Mr Murray proves me wrong. :)
1/1 for today ;)
and bonus andy only picked by 50 odd percent
1/1 for me too, hope Tsonga can make it 2/2 later on
I am now up to 8561st which is probably the highest I'll reach as I have Fed winning, so I'll soon plummet again.

would love to know % of people who picked Monaco for semi

Well it's no more than 0.1% because that's how many picked him to get to the QFs.what chance do we have ? pico has only beaten one top 50 ish player all year
quick run through for the Murray-nole Murray combination reveals at least 3 other have it in font of me

Still got both my finalists left.
I've only got one finalist left - and I hope Andy knocks him out tonight!
Well it's no more than 0.1% because that's how many picked him to get to the QFs.
Yes, so about 25 people. Looking at the draw, Monaco was due to have Fed in the last sixteen, so if you'd decided he was going to get to the 1/4 finals instead of Fed, you'd have already thought he was in such devastating form that expecting him to beat Fish to get to the semis wouldn't really be any more insane. I'd guess at least half of those 25 would have him through to the semis. It's a shame that we don't have Steven's "got further than anyone predicted" info from the bracket challenge tables.

just looked through and found a monaco group with six members not even oneof them picked him togo that far :rolling:
J, what's your username on the bracket? Am I right in thinking its jaysee?? :big grin:

Okay, good to see you have our an up as winner! :cheer:
I was passed by the sum total of 2 people when Monaco won last night.
Okay, good to see you have our an up as winner! :cheer:sorry should say in a previous incarnation i was/am jaydu
One of my finalists safely through!
my winner through, tho it will take 3 days to get the points
bonus of being a 19.8% pick
And I indeed have been proven wrong! :cheer: Can only gain points now if Djoko gets to the final.
weirdly they have andy down as winning his semi, but haven't added any points:confused:
Both my finalists through!
Win win for me now...
I've complained to them about Andy's points not being added.
Cazza will win if Nole takes the title, and Elenive will win if Andy does.
sorry should say in a previous incarnation i was/am jaydu
Ah okay! I knew you were someone from the old forum by the way you were posting but I didn't recognise your name, I've been trying to work it out :p
Also, annoying that they haven't added points for Andy's walkover win -- surely they add points for correct picks even if it was a walkover, I'm pretty sure they did for when Milos pulled out (although I'm too lazy to count my bracket points to check if they did). Exciting I have the possibility of winning if Andy wins!! :)

Great stuff Cazza and paul! Certainly rooting for you Paul to be our group winner though! I do have both finalists, both hope I don't pick up any more points and regardless hasn't been my best tournament! I don't want to jinx things or at least that's my excuse!
I'm now the highest I've been this tournie (4791st ) but I will plummet on Sunday whatever happens 'cos I have Fed winning.
i jumped 10000 places yesterday :rolling:
MTS1 in 5th overall currently has Andy to win a 44 game final! 3 tiebreaks is 39 games so where do the extra 5 come from!
:shocked:I'm 24th on the Circuit!
Well done mate. Nothing personal but I hope you drop a bit after the final.
:shocked:I'm 24th on the Circuit!very impressive, tho i echo allyb's sentiment

I hope Paul wins too a sit means Andy wins. The only reason I chose Nole to beat Andy was that Andy would have had to have beaten Rafa beforehand and could be tired.
i would wish 11-5 well, but i have a vested interest

Well done Cazza! :trophy:
Well done Cazza!
And really well done Hawkeye, 19th overall on the circuit!
Who says disloyalty doesn't pay?
Two tournaments, two winners predicted correctly.
It's pointless entering if you're always going to predict Andy wins, especially in his current up and down form.

Was tongue in cheek. I don't always pick Andy - thats why he wins sometimes lol!

Don't think it's the game for me. I always think Andy will win. With good cause. He's really very good at tennis...!
Well done Cazza! :trophy:
I agree with Hawkeye. I've only predicted Andy to win on a few occasions, and in each case I was wrong  He does better if I predict someone else to win!
Oh well, things can only get better...:shamed:
I hate this scoring system! Come back, Steven, we need a pickem!:flowers:
Well done Hawks
Just realised I'm 29th overall for Miami :yahoo:
Well done Cazza and Hawks. I always predict Andy - I'm afraid loyalty prevails over sense for me!

Good on yer pabbers! Do not be afraid though....common sense! GO ANDYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!
Looking forward for the draw to come out, absolutely love this competition! Can't decided whether I'll put Rafa or Nole as winner though, need to see who they'll/might have to play
Yes, it's nearly as good as the original - the pick'em!
I'm quite enjoying the Bracket so far this season... :shades:
The following message is up on the ATP bracket site. It looks like we won't have much time as the play starts on Sunday 15th and the draw is not coming out until Saturday afternoon.
This draw is not yet available.
You will be able to fill out your draw shortly after the complete field has been determined.
Check back again after Apr 14 at 9:00AM ET

Still in their beds in the States Pat.
Now for the geographically challenged that was really cruel Hawks. First of all I had to ask myself since when MC has been in the States - plus check the Atlas just to make sure! Then I had to ask myself what the States had got to do with a tournie in Europe. Then..........finally........the penny dropped from a great height :shamed:
It's open now!
20 hours to go.
Just chosen my picks! Won't have the threat of forgetting to do my picks and end up with no points now!
Will do mine this evening.

I predicted Rafa to win! :sofa:
I'm doing so badly here, it's time for an all-or-nothing gamble! I'm in the 2.9% going for an Andy victory:trophy:
Done mine, but did not spend much time on it due to the short time we have.
It closes at 9.30 am UK summer time.
At the moment the Simon(39.9%)/Tipsy(41.2%) eighth is the only section where the top 8 seed has been picked by less than 75% of entrants.

Shame qualies aren't put in yet, I have qualifier 3 defeating Youzhny and Simon! Lol ...... there are some quality qualies though in the qualifiers hopefully qualifier 3 will be one of the good ones. There is always 1 or 2 qualies who do really well!
First match played and I got it wrong

Well still joint top. 6 from 6 along with J and Eblunt.
100% streak could come to an end shortly though with Rochus pushing Verdasco all the way. Looks like that will go to a final set tie breaker.
Also Stepanek dropped first set versus the flying Finn.

Verdasco won 7'5 in the 3rd set.

Well lost mu perfect slate when Jarkko beat Steppy. Granny just got beat by Benny too so that's me 9 from 11 and as a result from that J will take the lead in our group outright on 10 points!

not looking good for having net access Saturday evening or Sunday :crying:
If you came up with a picking strategy, changed your bracket password to something temporary, and PMed me the details i'd enter for you if you want?
No Andy in the draw means that there will be no heart over head picks this time, should be interesting...
Its going to be tight getting this one in. The draw is not open until Saturday and closes on Sunday.
I've got my entry all ready - will post it as soon as it opens
Its strange that the Madrid bracket is not open today as the draw is out.
Maybe the draw was done earlier than they expected?
It's open now!

Thanks Hawkeye! Making my entry now :)
Done mine. :) Only 12 hours left to go.

Overslept and missed it.
9,991 of us are in 1st place :)
And I'm one of them. :big grin: Don't think I've ever been first in this before. Only one way to go from here. :rolling:
Ooooh. I'm in first place too. :big grin:
I guess i was 9,992nd equal then
After 5 matches, a mere 7,005 of us are in 1st place! :rolling:

2 Wrong thus far :(
I've only got one wrong and am currently 6993 rd.
After 6 matches, we're whittled down to 6,992 in 1st place.
I'm expecting to get the current match wrong - if the qualifiers had been placed, I'd have picked Falla over Chela. Still, you never know . . .
DaveArneRiise
07-05-2012, 16:56
I was among the 0.00047798% that went for Falla :cheer:
Well done. I think there would have been a lot more if the qualifiers had been placed!
With one wrong I'm now 430th - so there must be 429 with 7/7, but sadly none of them from am.forum.
OOOOPS, lost another one to a qualifier, it's all going to go wrong now

Lol I'm one of the 0.00% who picked Andreev. :rolling:
We're getting to the final stages of this match now, and I must say that GGL is looking the better player, although my tossing of a coin came up with Baggy
Only two of our players have 7 matches right now, Zagorian and Ace.
I get another one wrong - it was really hard to choose between Baggy and GGL and as I thought, it was a close match. It's all downhill for me now.

Not going well for me either, went the wrong way picking Baggy and Ferrero! GGL was always in with a shout though and good match.

LS working again now (you need to close and reload it) but the Tomic/Steppy match has disappeared and isn't in results either. Probably lost in the system somewhere .... but I've found the result on another forum.
Stepanek d Tomic 6-2, 7-5

I think LS from Madrid is up the swannee again - but I'm following Brits in action so not bothered today so much about Madrid. And I missed doing the Bracket challenge so don't have anything to worry about.

Picked up another result. Simon beat Fognini 6/7 6/3 6/3
And another Verdasco defeats Istomin 7-5 6-2
Monfils defeated Kohli 7-5 6-7 6-3
Milos defeated Nalbandian 6-4 6-4
No idea what's happening in the Llodra v Seppi Dog v Andujar and Rochus v Wawrinka encounters as LS is frozen.
Edit just found out
Stani beat Rochus 6-4 7-6
Dog beat Andujar 7-6 6-4
Seppi beat Llodra 7-5 6-4

Vixs is leading outright with 16 points. Great stuff Vixs!
I went from equal first with 5/5 to 18,000th with 5/12. I've never managed quite such a freefall as that before.

I can't see the photo. It says bandwidth is exceeded.
I've lost lots of mine but at least I haven't lost any for the next round.
20 points so far which is a lot better than I thought I'd do. I'm looking at my picks and wondering what on earth I was thinking picking Kohli to beat Monfils.

I thought that coming off the back of a title win he'd be full of confidence and able to dispatch of Monfils who hasn't played much recently. But hey, tennis got to love it :D

Yeah, but Kohlschreiber would not have had much time to prepare for Madrid as he was playing so late in the other tourny and would have had to travel etc. Its quite common that when a lower ranked player wins a small tournament, they often do not do so well in the next one if it is the next week.
Seppi to get to R3 backfired. Can't believe I picked him to beat JWT next though - must have clicked by mistake - even i'm not that daft!
Iti's been one of the most predictable tournaments (so far) for a long time - apart from Cilic, all the Rnd 2 winners were picked by at leat 64%, and all 8 rd 3 matches have a 70%+ pick (and hot favourite) still standing.
Well, it's not predictable now. No point in checking how I'm doing any more. :crying: :crying: :crying:

Think a few of us in the same boat! Had feeling maybe Rafa wouldn't play as well on the blue clay but in the end decided to play safe.
can someone copy across the final results before Sunday from previous back to back weeks I'm sure they don't stay there long and I'm not back to monday
I thought I was doing really well yesterday with 15/16 right. And then Rafa, my predicted winner goes and loses today :crying:
The trouble is, we were all misled into thinking that this was a clay tournament :grrr:

Thanks for letting us know. I'll try and remember.
Wow, wasn't looking bad yesterday but today....... What a difference a day makes
Bit disappointed that Rafa didn't apologize for ruining so many brackets and instead concentrated on blaming the courts. He gets more like Roger everyday!

Missed this.........silly holiday!
I need Fed to get to the final then lose, for my best possible score here (which will still not be very good).
I've already moved on...
... to Rome!
The Rome Bracket is now open and will only be open for around 24 hours.
I'm in too. Seriously considered Andy going out to Nalby, but instead have him to semis.
I have him losing to Ferrer in the quarters - he's never beaten Ferru on clay yet (although of course this may be the first time).

Well, I can't score any more now as my winner is out
What is really annoying is that after being told by J that picking Berdbrain to reach the final in Miami was pretty much insane, he now goes and reaches the final here (on surface far less suited to him) as a 0.5% pick. Lessons learned 1) Berbrain will always either over perform or underperform in a way exactly the opposite way that you predicted he would. 2) ignore anything J says
That goodness it wasnt a pickem
