MIAMI 2012, QUARTER-FINAL: Ailing Andy triumphs over Tipsarevic 4'6, 6'3, 6'4

Andy meets a Serb in the Quarter-Final of the Miami Masters.
NOT that one (i.e. #1 Djokovic) but compatriot Janko Tipsarevic.

The H2H (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Players/Head-To-Head.aspx?pId=MC10&oId=T742) is 4-3 in Andy's favour with the most recent win on the grass of Queens Club in 2011.

Janko is at a career high #9 (held since November 2011) and had a decent start to the year being runner-up in Chennai (the same week Andy won in Brisbane). He hasn't done that well since but has gone out after 2 or 3 rounds in most tourneys so far.
He's certainly not a pushover and has given Andy a lot of trouble in the past.

Much will depend on 'which' Muzzah and Tipsy turn up tomorrow; both can have seriously "off" days and it'll be the guy who's mentally in charge who'll win it.

Catch the match on Wednesday 28th at 8pm UK time ........

I hope Super-Muzzah shows up. Now that Fed's out, I'm strangely optimistic about this tournament. But, hey, no jinxing! So I won't say who I think will win. But seriously, Djoker's facing Ferrer in the semis, and Nadal's facing Tsonga. Djoko leads Ferrer 7-5 H2H, and Nadal leads Tsonga 6-3 - but Tsonga won the last time they played.

No pushover, but if Andy's head is firmly in place and the serve is at a reasonable percentage then he should be OK. He had his thinking head on yesterday with Gilles and should have what it takes to handle Tipsy.
I believe one of Tipsy's wins was an Andy retirment so its really 4-2.

Mmm.... just caught the end yesterday. Tipsy likes playing the top four (well, playing Nole perhaps not as they are friends...) and his ego tends to raise his game to show he can mix it with them, so I expect a tricky match. I think Andy will have to play near his best to win this. I also feel the winner has a fifty fifty chance of playing Tsonga rather than Nadal (and not just because there are two of them in the match :) ).

So happy about that hold, because I always feel Tipsy is dangerous precisely because it is harder for Andy to get "up for it" when he plays Tipsy compared to, say, Birdy or Tsonga or del Potro (never mind the other top four) but he does have the game now to cause problems.

I think Lendl is helping him with make that forehand more of a weapon but the downside is probably taking the focus away from the rest of his game which is deemed solid e.g. the backhand. I think the windy conditions are affecting the players quite a bit and have contributed to the breaks of serve.

Let's see how Tipsy does when serving for the first set from the dodgy wind end.
