Can anyone remember or know for deffo if the Slams have put a cap on the number of games that can now be played in the 5th and Final set? I had a vague memory that after Isner/Mahut they reviewed the rules and after a certain point they had a 'shoot-out'.

Isner serving to stay in the match.

I remember they said it would be discussed, I don't recall ever hearing a decision....

We have about 90 mins of light left tonight thats enough for 20 games

Sallydaisy
31-05-2012, 18:09
Mathieu holds for 10-9, Isner has to hold again or go out to the Frenchman.

90mins of light left? Hmmm ...........

How many more games do Isner and Mathieu have to play for the FFT to give them a set of commemorative wine glasses?

Neither of them running quite as much to chase down balls.

Isner serving
*15-0
*15-15 rubbish drop shot from Isner
*15-30 and even worse shot selection from John
Controversy - PHM wrong call so Ji gets 2 serves and sends an Ace.
*30-30
*40-30
Game Isner and mostly because of 3 strong forehand winners.

Absolutely. And considering what Mathieu has been through over the last 18 months, it's incredible that it seems to be Isner who's beginning to run out of steam.

14 all.

Shot from Isner, great FHDTL.
Mathieu serving btw.

*0-15
*15-15

*15-40
Game Mathieu.

Sallydaisy
31-05-2012, 18:53
90mins so far this set. Isner has to hold again at *14-15.

The longest 5th set in Roland Garros was played over 2 days by Santoro v Clement and it was 16-14.

Isner serving. *15-15, *15-30 (complete mis-hit from Isner)

Isner saves a matchpoint, and another as PHM hits a sitter into the net.

Deuce.
Massive forehand from Isner sets up Ad.
And he holds after a successful drop shots.

A few scores on the doors already in Roland Garros.

Ivanovic is out - beaten by Errani 1'6, 7'5, 6-3.
Sloane Stephens defeated Mathilde Johansson(FRA) 6-3, 6-2 and could move to USA #4 after RG.
Kuznetsova through after she crushes Agnieza Radwanska[3] 6-1 6-2

Granollers defeats Jaziri (TUN) 7'5 in the 5th set carried over from last night.
He'll meet "le Braveheart Francais" Paul-Henri Mathieu tomorrow in the 3rd Round.

Kevin Anderson leads 2 sets to 1 [4-6 6-3 7-6 (7-4)] over Tomas Berdych.

Linda
02-06-2012, 19:52
Have you noticed that he has no neck? His head is attached directly to his body with no neck in between.

Until today I thought that the ITV coverage was great, but they kept cutting away from Rafa's match and left it completely in the last set for a women's match! I have complained. I did tell them, though, that until then it was very good and that their commentators are much better than the ones on BBC or Eurosport.

I remember when John Inverdale first worked for the BBC doing the evening Wimbledon round-up. I thought he gave a saner perspective than the dayshift commentators. He does waffle on a little bit sometimes but he tends to steer away from player character assassinations and I think he's managing the 'team' on ITV4 really well.

I wonder how things will work over Wimbledon coverage with the rumours that Sue Barker is all but done.
I can imagine Inverdale being well hacked off if he doesn't get a bigger slice of the pie and that might explain his 'move' to ITV for Roland Garros. I sincerely hope Bouncy Castle isn't given a bigger role ...
:hide:

There is one thing that I really really miss. They always did a Wimbledon 'round-up' late at night, 10.30/11.30pm for an hour. Over the last couple of years they've moved that slot to 9pm which is daft because quite often there are matches still in progress at Wimbers and the 'round-up' is not so relevant.
Rant over.

yes I agree it's really daft to start the "round-up" when there's still play going on.

At least they do one - there doesn't seem to be a highlights program on ITV at all. Well, there is one usually at 1 or 2 in the morning, which is no better for people who've missed the tennis through being at work! The one time I recorded it for Dave to watch the next day, they didn't even show Andy's match - ok it was the first round, and he pretty much walked it, but even so!

I assume the footage for it is supplied by French TV, so ITV can put some English commentary on it, but not control what is shown, but it's a bit irritating.

oh well Nole takes the 4th 7-5 and can't see him losing from here, found form just in time! Goffin broken at 5 all in 2nd,Fed may also be on his way back too.
