I think Berdy is getting a tad tight ...

Better! Found a few lines in that point, and pushed Berdych round a bit :)

C'mon Andy. Make him serve it out. Then hit the ball a bit deeper in the rallies!

Bother! (not the word I want to use, but it will have to do)

Have to be honest, though - he didn't do enough, and Berdych played brilliantly.

:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

Andy simply didn't produce his A game today when he needed it - and Tomas Berdych did.
Props to the Czech - I think t'other Czech will have something to say to Mr Murray later!!!

credit to Berdy - played so much better than Andy today.

Not unexpected, but very disappointing nevertheless.

Much as I hate to say it Berdych was the better player - Andy just not on form today. Croft will be rubbing her hands with glee.

The little I saw, Andy was very much second best and with the power Berdych has, that is always my fear when Andy plays him. Berdych loses matches though by being inconsistent and surely you beat him either by playing lights-out tennis or, if that is not available, by getting him to be inconsistent....

shame!! - tough match!! - credit to Berdych!!

Here we go - Croft banging on about Andy's composure on court!

Disappointing but as much as I hate to say it Berdych was the better player on the day & all credit to him!!!!!

Disappointing but onwards to Barcelona. First tournament on clay, so time to make some improvements.

Berdych deserved to win today. He was better in all departments - physical, tactical and mental. Credit to Andy for fighting though - the first set in particular he did very well to win. I was surprised at just how short his groundstrokes were though, it's definitely not want you want to do when playing an aggressive player like Berdych on a court as slow as this.

Caught a bit of the second set earlier, and Andy clearly wasn't in the right place mentally today for whatever reason.

Really bugs me when the commies apologise for the swearing. By all means apologise for broadcasting it but its not their place to apologise for anything Andy says or does.

Disapppointed that Andy just seemed to fall away after taking the tight opener. Seemed to be struggling on serve and couldn't create the opportunities from what I can gather. Reports also that movement just wasn't quite good enough. Berdy did seem to be on song though, hopefully Andy will learn from this match and move on though. Whilst gutting it was his first clay court event for some time.

I thought Andy was preoccupied with the poor court and the fear that he may fall and be injured held him back form moving well.

Although he held on and did fight to a degree I thought he looked like he didnt really want to be there.

Whilst Berdych was also cautious with the court he wasnt there when Benneteau fell and saw how awful it was.

Shame but fear will stop the body responding.

Watched the first set and saw how he was struggling to hold serve and when he got broken in the second set I could see the writings on the wall ( berdych playing great) I left and went swimming, did not want to see Andy get beaten it upsets and frustrates me too much. better luck in Barcelona next week. :sofa:

Horrible match.
I so wanted Andy to stand up to Berdych (and therefore also send a signal to all the other heavy-hitters looming up behind him in the rankings), but it was not to be.
Like hoopgirl's comments above I too felt he let the state of the court distract him. [Wondered if seeing Benneteau's wrist/ankle injury at first hand could have spooked him with some painful memories?] Whatever. It was obvious that regressing to tentative, passive play from way behind the baseline, accompanied by his angry self-critique, would not get the job done.

Feel pretty disappointed right now.

Andy  Roll on Barcelona. Hope he can pick up his clay game there. Fingers crossed.

The fact that his good friend Pico was also injured this week must have an impact I'm sure. Both these players will be out for the whole of the clay court season and may also miss Wimbledon - that would have been devastating for Andy. I just hope that they get to the end of the tournament without any more injuries.

Didn't see today's match.

Did he perhaps peek to early this week? Or is that over thinking things, probably.

It's a pity he's failed to defend his points, but at least he has the opportunity to make up for that in Barcelona.

I thought Andy had a bad day at the office but Tsonga's was far worse - he had a woeful showing against Simon. Just confirms my view that all players can have a bad day!

Andsy is still a work in progress, will get it all working together eventually. Gets frustrated when he can't meet his own high standards, which doesn't help when he is having a bad day.

Andy played like the Andy of old, too passive, never took the game to Birdman. He played better last year on clay than he has so far.

If the commies did not bring it to the viewers attention we would never know, I honestly did not hear any swearing, I wish they would shut their gob!!!

Thanks Chris - that had me laughing out loud!!!
You wouldn't like to go and have a word in the commentary box would you?

I agree - I didn't hear any swearing and wouldn't have known if my attention hadn't been drawn to it. Even Fleming got fed up with whoever it was that kept commenting on it - told him he was a broken record!

Shame Andy lost, Berdych has always been a tough opponent for him. Well, onwards and upwards and still plenty of time to improve before Roland Garros, which is the important one.

Personally I think Berdych has a great game , so powerful and precise when hes on .

I didnt see this match but sounds like Berdych played that way, and Andy not so much , oh well , on we go.

:( Berdych played very well but Andy not as much. His shots at times weren't deep enough and he let Berdych dominate too many rallies. I do think Andy has the game to mute Berdych once he figures out the right gameplan. Onwards and upwards. Is the start of clay court seaon and hopefully Andy can figure it out and it will only get better :)
