I'm starting to think there's a downside to going to Olympic events - it's brilliant, but we're going to miss Becky Adlington tomorrow when we're at the women's football, and probably miss most of the heptathlon while we're down at the Olympic park for the hockey on Saturday.
No fair - I want to watch it all :)
You could always let someone else have your tickets......I'll take them :big grin::big grin:

Didn't know where to put this....Piers Morgan promised on twitter to donate £1,000 to Great Ormond Street Hospital for every Gold Medal winner who sings the National Anthem (ours that is) He is dismayed that some athletes are not singing, even those who have received honours from the Queen.

Will they have some big screens near the football?
Probably not there, though I guess they might put some progress/results up at half time - I would imagine in the Olympic Park they will have loads of screens.
Technically we're only going to the early morning session of the hockey tomorrow, so we could come back quite early - we'd planned to spend the whole day there, so we could see all the venues & take in the atmosphere - but we could change our minds and come back earlier in the day - may catch the end of the heptathlon that way, depending on the schedule...

Athletes are athletes, they are not singers. Exactly...and they are too choked with emotion to sing if they could.
Some national anthems don't have words - Spain's, for example.
Surely, other people should be singing for the athletes.

Wins being the operative word.
Wins that made british sporting history.
An Olympic gold that put him ahead of sir Steve on number of medals (ok, to be pipped by sir chris - and 5 in a row still beats that).
Wins in the tour & Olympic tt in the same year that Miguel indurain couldn't manage.
Adding to wins in the Paris-nice, dauphine & the tour of romandie to achieve something Eddie Merckx never did.
As much as I love jess, and was crying like fed will tomorrow - winning one gold doesn't really come close.

It's been brilliant, hasn't it?!
I've watched as much as possible, over weekends and after work, but I've booked three whole days holiday this week - so from tomorrow morning, I'll be camped out in front of the telly watching five days of unadulterated sport :) Fantastic!!
We'll keep trying every evening to get athletics tickets, but not holding out much hope - at least if we don't manage to get any, we'll at least be able to watch it all from home.
Is it just me, or does everyone think the BBC coverage has been incredible? They've had 24 channels available, and although I don't think they have (or ever could) quite live up to their 'never miss a moment' promise, I think they have come as close as could possibly have been expected.
Well done BBC - hats off to you
The BBC coverage has been unheralded, along with the website and the ability to rewind streams is amazing.
And they have covered everything live haven't they- what have you missed?

Personally nothing I wanted to see, but I think there have been occasional situations where there were several matches on at once in a given event, so they couldn't quite get everything - early rounds of the tennis for example?

They can't show something that's not televised - you'd need 24 channels just for the tennis! And they did have tennis on multiple channels from the beginning.
Remember it's not the BBC who provide the actual coverage of all the events - the Olympic Broadcasting Company ship it out to broadcasters from all over the world and then the BBC get a feed like everyone else.
And they have put all those feeds out live simultaneously (granted sometimes without commentary, but that's not always a bad thing!)
So if you wanted to watch the rapid fire pistol shooting instead of the handball you could do that - I think it's been amazing

Just watched a bit of the walking races. Very strange. I had no idea that this was an Olympic sport. They look most ungainly.
I really don't enjoy watching walking races at all. It just seems a little pointless, and it can't be good for the knees either.
I really can't see how they decide whether they are walking or running - a veyr fine line IMO.
They need to have at least one foot constantly in contact with the ground. If they don't, it's running. They certainly used to get 2 or three warnings but disqualifications are not unheard of.

After the Games ......
I've read that immediately after the Games i.e. on Monday or Tuesday the whole area will be fenced off so that all the Olympic gear can be removed, buildings removed or reduced in size, a University built, the allotments reinstated (yep, Danny Boyle missed them!) and the Village be converted to housing.
What I find a little sad is that they intend to block that wonderful site off almost immediately to the general public. I'm pretty certain there are people who couldn't afford to get tickets or who missed out on getting tickets who might have wanted to just go there and stroll around and look at where so much history was made BEFORE it was converted to every day use.
It is intended to use the site well (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olympic_Park,_London) ... and it'll take 18-24 months to sort it out during which time it'll be a building site and dangerous for the general public.
I gather there's now a groundswell of opinion to keep it open to the public for a few days afterwards to allow 'sightseeing'. Have to say I'd like to go but what to others think?

Not all the venues at the Olympic Park are being used for the Paralympics.
I've heard that there is now a proposal to keep the Park open for a few days after the main Olympics event but not seen anything confirmed. If there are gounds tickets available to go round the place after the Olympics are over where are they being publicised?
It'd be good to know something more about this because I have a sneaky suspicion that a lot of people are expecting to be able to wander around as if it were an ordinary public park.

There is paralympic athletics/swimming etc all at olympic park so I cant see that being right that on Monday its going to be all closed and fencing off to public places that arent being used. I would love to go and walk around the park as didnt get the chance for tickets and cant get hold of any for the paralympics
It's official (well, according to the BBC live text) - Team GB are secure in third place. Now that the Russians are out of the wrestling, they can win the maximum of six gold medals, and we are seven ahead.
I was listening to an interview with the head of LOCOG on Friday, and he said that the Olympic Park would be closed pretty much immediately after the Paralympics because most of the temporary structures and equipment were only hired up to a certain date, so there was no scope for opening the park to the public. He acknowledged that they had probably made a mistake there, but there wasn't really any scope for even a compromise.

It's odd, there do seem to be mixed messages coming out. Just watched a piece by Clare Balding from the Olympic Park, and she definitely said that it would be renamed The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park (for some reason) and would become a public park so everyone could visit. Of course, she didn't mention any timings, or how much of the Park this applied to....
Sorry, I meant in terms of some of the venues, the park will of course be permanent as part of the Legacy.

Why do the BBC keep saying that all of Team GB will be in the stadium for the closing ceremony? They won't - we know Andy's already in Cincinnati, so they can't be - yet Jake Humphreys has just said how wonderful all our athletes were, whether they won a medal or not (quite right) and that "every single one of them" will be in the stadium this evening...?
I'd love to go and look round the Olympic Park - I live pretty near, and the other day I got as far as I could without a ticket so I could take some photos, but would be great to actually walk through it.
On a different subject, Team GB medal winners gathered for a photocall - what a shame Andy and Laura couldn't be there:

Here we go with live twitter commentary from London 2012.
This is London calling ...Tonight’s #ClosingCeremony (https://twitter.com/search/?src=hash&q=%23ClosingCeremony) will be the world’s biggest after show party!
http://l2012.cm/closing (http://t.co/z7rgT8PJ) In among some of London’s architectural highlights @emelisande (https://twitter.com/emelisande) performs ‘Read all about it’ (originally by @professorgreen (https://twitter.com/professorgreen))
The #ClosingCeremony (https://twitter.com/search/?q=%23ClosingCeremony&src=hash) begins with ‘Rush Hour’ - a journey through a day in the life of the city, from morning rush hour to glittering sunset Theatre group Stomp swing from scaffolds, turning London’s famous buildings into instruments creating a cacophony of noise!
Julian Lloyd Webber with the London Symphony Orchestra (LSO) perform Edward Elgar’s piece ‘Salut D’Amour
Horns blow, workers drill...the cacophony escalates until Winston Churchill (played by Timothy Spall) shouts ‘Stop!
Representing HM The Queen is HRH Prince Henry of Wales, arriving with IOC President Rogge at his final Games as President. The Union Flag is raised by representatives of the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force to a performance of ‘God Save the Queen.
Michael Caine cameo: ‘I only told you to blow the ****** doors off!
This scene ‘Street Party’ is a mash-up of the 1969 film The Italian Job & cult British TV comedy ‘Only Fools and Horses’. Madness perform their hit ‘Our House’ – a song that evokes the tolerance and inclusiveness of cosmopolitan London. The Massed Bands of the Household Division perform ‘Parklife’ – the title track of @blurofficial (https://twitter.com/blurofficial)’s 1994 album. The Pet Shop Boys are performing ‘West End Girls. .@onedirection (https://twitter.com/onedirection) perform ‘What Makes You Beautiful’. They’re the 1st UK group to debut at no.1 with their 1st album in the US.
The scene erupts with colour recalling the street parties & celebrations of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee earlier this year.
Ray Davies arrives in a cab to perform @TheKinks (https://twitter.com/TheKinks)’ ‘Waterloo Sunset’, a classic about lovers passing over Waterloo Bridge. As long as I gaze on Waterloo Sunset I am in paradise.
Emeli Sande again singing a reprise of Read All About It with a backdrop of our medal winners.
Wonder if they're going to mention that the tennis players had to miss the opening and closing ceremonies.

It's much more informal and it's lovely to see the athletes entering the arena through the audience. Nice to see Ben Ainslie with the British flag.
Tonight we celebrate athletes of 200+ nations whose endeavours & commitment to the Olympic values inspired people worldwide. Every Olympic nation is represented in flags & the LSO are performing ‘Parade of Nations’ written by David Arnold for the Closing Ceremony. As the athletes enter, @Elbow (https://twitter.com/Elbow) perform ‘One Day Like This’ & ‘Open Arms’ accompanied by Urban Voices Collective and the LSO.
