Hmmm, looks like that's it on the party side 'cos that was the Greek National Anthem.
Next the Olympic anthem ....... with the Welsh Male Voice Choir.

So, is there going to be some sort of presentation from Rio as the next host city? I'm sure we did something in Beijing - didn't we have a bus made out of a hedge or something...?

Sallydaisy
12-08-2012, 22:28
The Brazilian national anthem sounds like something fron Austria!

Helen40

The Brazilian anthem sounds as if it should accompany some black and white slapstick commedy!

KnightOwl
12-08-2012, 22:36
Can't remember, but I think it went on for a while. We had a bunch of buses with London landmarks made out of hedges, iirc, all driving round, and it ended with David Beckham kicking a football into the crowd....

13-08-2012, 00:24
That was awesome! Loved it. Better than the opening for sure (imho). I'm amazed they didn't drag on the Rolling Stones too. Shame Robbie missed it. I kept thinking, if Ginger Spice could join back in then he could. Didn't realize he (his partner) was having a baby.

Anyway, loved the Spice Girls, Wonderwall, Queen, crazy Octopus, Annie, George M., Eric Idle, most of it really. Did wonder why they didn't have more comedians on doing bits. But maybe it wouldn't translate properly. Also, someone told me Adele was supposed to be there. No show?

I think London did an absolutely superb job with the games!!! Brilliant hosts. And well done to Team GB for doing so phenomenally well. Really amazing stuff. :GBflag:

Highlight for me will always be Andy winning his medals (and Laura too). :gold: :silver:

Thanks also to KnightOwl and all the folks who put together all the Olympic threads and the torch journey through GB. Brilliant job guys!!!

Always sad when the Olympics are over which was particularly the case after such an enjoyable and successful London games. However, whilst it was a good show overall for me it didn't reach the heights of the opening ceremony, though maybe that was partly because i wasn't keen on some of the acts. Of the Live music acts I thought Queen were great (good to see the Freddie Mercury footage) and also enjoyed Muse,Julian LLoyd Webber Annie Lennox, The Who, Madness and the Eric Idle part was also excellent. Felt there could've been a bit more variety though understand they wanted to give it a party feel and music was at the forefront. There were also rumours Kate Bush was taking part and am a massiv e fan though as she hasn't performed for some time was unlikely. Would have been good to see a video but in the end we had to make do with hearing the remixed version of Running up That Hill which has been released. Don't think George Michael's voice is quite the same nowadays and have never been the biggest Spice Girls fan anyway though they obviously have appeal at such an event.

A minor point but it did stick in the craw. During the much applauded BBC montage shown before the closing ceremony Andy was described as the "sometimes grumpy Scot". Isn't everyone "sometimes grumpy" even golden girl Jess Ennis? No other Olympian had their personality singled out so why did the BBC feel it necessary to perpetuate this tiresome myth? Such lazy journalism. In contrast look at how they lauded Ben Ainslie for his beyond grumpiness attitude even though he's been reprimanded in the past for his excessive behaviour. Mini-rant over. ;)

What an odd but lively ceremony. So brave of Gary to get up and perform, so glad Robbie wasnt there he didnt feature on that song anyway so wasnt needed and it would of been all about him had he of been there with his crazy eyes. Anyway a lovely song to begin the going out of the flames.
loved eric Idle, Muse, Elbow, The Who and Brian May ironically probably the only ones who sang live!
roll on the paralympics!

:OGwave:I thoroughly enjoyed the Closing Ceremony. It was vibrant, exciting and really connected with the athletes who seemed to be having a fantastic time. Hit the right note to close our most successful games, Loved Elbow, The Who, Brian May, the ballet and the drums. Also enjoyed the Welsh Choir and the band + the surprise inclusion of John Lennon which reduced me to tears. Thought Gary Barlow was a real trouper and loved Eric Idle. The dying of the flame was very moving. All in all I had a rockin' night here.........It didn't go down so well with Supergramps but then he's older than I.:GBflag::cheer:

I've just received my olympics Blu-ray DVD, So should have some happy viewing! There's 7 hours of highlights plus extended highlights of the opening ceremony and the full closing cermony. Though I'm most interested in the action!

I use TV Catchup to watch 'almost live' programmes on my laptop (they run a few seconds after the digital service through my main TV). I noticed yesterday that there is a new channel called insportive which is just showing highlights of the Olympics on a repeated 2hr loop. It claims to cover all the Gold Medal winning moments so I presume that includes Andy winning his. Not sure if it's a permanent station (but doubt it) and suspect it's just to co-incide with Spoty.

I'm about to rewatch Andy's Olympic Gold match.

The BBC webpage has him, with DelP and Fedex on the podium, as their header photo!!!
And his match is the 21st favourite Olympic moment that's been watched on the iplayer set up.

I can watch the Opening Ceremony on the DVD I got for Xmas but it won't have Andy's full match in it.

I bought the BBC olympics DVD for £10 recently from amazon - bargain! Noticed they also had it for the same price in Saisburys. Haven't got a bluray player unfortunately so don't know how much that costs.

Best wishes to Beth for a happy retirement from gymnastics - best of luck to her with the Chobham Academy and in whatever course life takes her. She served British gymnastics well for many years and is the inspiration for the success of our gymnasts now following her. Well done Beth. :bravo:

Disappointing we won't see her competing in Glasgow next year.
