I want Andy to play Haas first round.

hfwardhouse
17-06-2012, 12:51
Really Sam? The same Haas who has matchpoint against Fed in Halle?!

Linda

Correction, who has just beaten Fed in Halle.

One of the worst you could get in the first round.

Yes, thats why I said it.

I'd like either Djoko or Fed to get Haas in the first round, thank you.

Linda

Definitely, RL! The first round is always tricky; any of the top players could get caught out by someone like Haas before they get the feel of the court.

Great pic, and here is another player happy to be with Andy, despite the fact that according to Haas they talk about Andy and his faking of injuries in the locker room. Tommy Haas will live to regret what he said about Andy as I feel many of the players will give him the cold shoulder and he will be isolated in the locker room.

I ADORE Wimbledon! I've been twice. The first time in 2007 and the second 2008. The access for people in wheelchairs is very good ( the staff let me get the best places on the practise courts and skip certain queues !) I have seen Novak,Roger and Rafa but sadly not Andy yet (booo) Has anyone got pictures of Andy at past Wimbledons ? :)

So here we are again, all eyes on the green, green grass of home as we get behind Andy for the Wimbledon title.

Juat 7 matches to win & all our dreams come true. I can picture the moment Andy hits the winning shot (he chases down a disguised dropper & smacks it cross court to win, still running he drops to his knees at the edge of the court while we all go bonkers & cry at the same time - it brings a tear to my eye thinking about it!) & cross everything that this year it finally happens!

There was me thinking that having Ferrer in his quarter was quite kind - but the first week opponents are a little tricky - and I don't know Ferrer's draw. Maybe he has some tricky opponents too, and might not make the last 8?

Another way of looking at it would be that it could make him match tough for the second week.

And best of 5 gives the top players more of a chance to avoid an upset.

Ferrer's section from Madeline's post up above. Think I'd pick Fran (Del Potro) to come through over Ferret. Agree with you regarding best of 5; Andy has played rather more of them than a lot of people in his section!!!

I am really, really, really fed up that Andy is in Rafa's half yet again. :grrr: Mainly because I am going to the semis and had hoped that I would be able to cheer for both of them. Although of course, they both have to get to the semis first!

No idea why anyone should worry about Ferrer - he's never gone beyond R16 at Wimbly.

Actually it strikes me that the bottom half of the draw is by far the toughest - Nole and Fed have a much easier route to the semis than do Andy and Rafa.

The bottom half of the draw certainly seems much tougher than the top half on paper but Majors have a habit of throwing up the unexpected. The plus point is that Andy always seems to play better against stiff opposition and he's certainly got that!

I really don't bother about the 'so-and-so had an easy draw' sort of thing. It is invariably used to degrade achievement.

The luck of the draw is what it is. It's up to players to make the most of whatever luck comes their way - and if they do, then fair play to them - it shouldn't be used to take away from their success.

If the cards don't fall in their favour however, then it is simply up to them to try overcome the obstacles in their way.

Alis

What an appalling draw for Andy, if he has to play Karlovic, Anderson and Raonic before Del Potro, Nadal, Djokovic it will be the toughest draw he's ever had at a major.

The best thing that can genuinely happen to him is if Davydenko gives him a really tough match full of rallies, because if he doesn't find his range and rhythm in that match, he won't have a chance in the latter stages because there will be barely any rallies for the next three rounds, and that would definitely count against him later in the tournament. He's going to have to serve and return like a dream.

But i'm getting ahead of myself.

He can do it though.

Linda
22-06-2012, 18:02
Andy is one of the best returners in the game. He's never had to worry about big servers.

SamP
22-06-2012, 18:23
Andy is one of the best returners in the game. He's never had to worry about big servers.

Thats not my point.

My point is that these games offer players little rhythm, few rallies. That would count against anyone later in a tournament when you start playing far more talented players who can work you round a court.

Andy's serving will also have to be very very solid, something he's struggled with lately. If he's fit however, i'm sure he won't have any problems on serve.

I'd be really torn over where to watch if Andy got to the Final this year. The TV offers close-up shots, great coverage, replays, armchair comfort (murraycoasters notwithstanding) and the chance to drink a lot of Pimms to calm the nerves!!! But I'd be soooooooooo tempted to get down to Wimblers in the early hours of Sunday to queue for ground passes and watch from Henman Hill and get the atmosphere. Did that in '07 when Jamie won his Mixed title and it was awesome!

Vesnina beating Venus Williams - and in comfortable, straight sets - was pretty surprising.

And the Gulbis match is looking pretty interesting. Apparently if you were to bet on Berdy winning in 5 - right now - you'd get 3-1 odds.

Berdy is in Nole's quarter. isn't he. A Gulbis win would be very handy for Nole, then.

Happy for Kim but sad for Jelena, she used to be soooooo good! Must be hard to be her right about now.

I should have added in singles, obviously that was a special moment but she wasn't really able to build on that and whilst she was at one time the top ranked player it didn't last too long.

Play for today has been suspended.
They've opted not to put the roof across to allow the Wozniacki v Paszek match carry on. I guess by the time they got it ready it'd be 9.15pm and that could mean an 11pm finish if it went to 3 sets.

There's an OOP (and link) up in the locked thread here. (http://www.andymurrayfanforum.com/forums/showthread.php?1071-WIMBLEDON-2012-25-6-8-7-MAIN-THREAD-(locked).-Info-Schedule-Draws-OOP-s&p=74539&viewfull=1#post74539)

I'd say that anyone with a court 1 ticket tomorrow might feel as if they have a better deal than Centre Court. Nalby v Tipsy and Clijsters v Jankovic are certainly not typical round 1 matches, whereas the Centre Court matches are all likely to be rollover matches for the seeded players.

Not much we can do about the weather and maybe we will get a fair bit of play in yet. Whilst you need to be on your toes with Karlovic and don't get much of a rhythm could be a good test for Andy and don't Dr Ivo is quite the same threat nowadays. See that Fed just cruised again, whilst Raonic and Monaco have gone through. Whilst maybe a surprise Stosur went out to Rus, didn't think she would get far sadly. Wozniacki had 2 mps in the 2nd but lost the breaker and has just been pegged back to 2 all in the 3rd after early break. Paszek proving to be a tough challenger! Dimitrov has retired (feeling unwell) so Baggypants is through to play Andy in R3.
Del Potro is through in 4 sets.
Tsonga is now leading 2-1 sets v Garcia Lopez.

Blimey that was a nailbiter of a tiebreaker in Rafa's match. Glad he prevailed though! The commies are comparing Rosol to Soderling.

Tsonga won in 4.

Nadal has taken first set against Rosol 10-8 in the breaker. Rosol had a couple of SP's and then missed an easy forehand to gift Nadal the set. Frustrating this, Nadal is there for the taking. Further he goes better he gets and of course he is in Murray's section. Would be great if the likes of Bellucci and Rosol would stop muppeting away there chances and take him out!

Bally playing out on ct 2, and is 0-3 already*

Kvitova is playing some amazing tennis against Bally.
To be honest I wish Laura and Heather were going to be playing in the Olympics in the singles.
Respect to Anne and Bally for the years of service but Laura and Heather would probably make more use of the experience.

Wow Nadal not happy at all out there, just got broken by Rosol in the 3rd set.

I agree with you David. Watched Anna K and Heather at RG and there was no doubt in my mind who has the most potential. Heather is just so excited about her tennis and a joy to watch. Stil they will both be aorund in 4 years time!!

What's Rafa complaining about?

No idea, something about him not liking the way Rosol is preparing to serve. I think he's just irritated.

Oh dear! I think Rafa's gonna lose this match. Better for Andy I guess.

More than irritated - cheeky little shoulder barge on the way to his chair!
Never seen Rafa so worked up - Rosol has got right inside his head!
