Me neither didnt realise they hadnt met on grass....interesting
Fed & nole hadn't played on grass until today either
Andy has only met Federer at a grand slam in a final.
oh good - I was just about to ask if anyone knew what time the match starts - then I saw it's in the tread title. So glad it's not 1pm - that would have been a real rush to get home from church in - then we'd have to eat too. 2pm is just fine - Andy can have my undivided attention!!

I wonder how many of the crowd would be supporting Fed though.
I wouldn't be a bit surprised if a lot of the crowd are for Fed.
Interesting tweet from Rob Koenig @RobKoenigTennis
Remember this: Fed's 1st Major win was v Philipoussis, Nadal's was v Puerta and Djoko's was v Tsonga, none were Major winners......Murray has had to play Federer twice and Novak once (both major champions!!) His has been by far the toughest task...

I'm not so sure - with the roof open he'll hear the mob on the Mound easier!!!
I wonder if Wimbledon will have the screens set up on Court 2 for this?
I'm sure they did that when he reached the Semi's last year because it allowed more people into the grounds.
I hope some royals come and support Murray :)ye great just what wimbledon needs more pambered blood sucking leaches who care nothing about tennis , think you will pretty much be guaranteed to have prime ministers & first ministers coming oot the cess pits as well

So rude and disrespectful.
If you come to a tennis match, you should have the courtesy to stay for the whole match.

Yes it was his inaugaration that the Queen bestowed upon him so couldnt really miss it.
In that case it would have been better if he hadn't come to the match at all.
Partick Thistle? More important than Andy?! I don't think so!
Taking the train? Well at least he wasn't taking a private jet unlike his father who charged us £10,000 for travelling from
Aberdeen to tour poor areas of London!

Very good! Gran's present for the boy who has everything: make him a Knight of the Thistle.
Even less reason for deserting Andy than if he'd been watching Partick Thistle! :)

So the question is. Is @darren_cahill going to resurrect his Aus Open bet and find a kilt to wear on Sunday? What do you reckon, @judmoo?

NO!
Come on Andy!
There will be pressure on Andy but in some ways less than previously IMHO. As he says himself the pressure will be on Roger because of who he is and of course for Roger there's a lot riding on this in terms of ranking and records. With Andy, we may have expected more previously but because we've now seen him lose 3 slam finals, for me, at least, the "expectation" isn't anywhere near as high. Of course I want him to win but I'm thinking just taking a set and a close match would be a perfectly respectable outcome. So go on Andy, show us what you're made of :worship: !
Couldn't get to sleep last night - so excited that Andy's made it to the final, but at the same time nervous for him tomorrow. Just hope he can come out and play his absolute best, If he does and loses, then he just has to say Fed was too good. Would be too awful to contemplate him being crushed and despondent. Fed has to be the favourite, but I really believe Andy COULD do it.

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't this the first time Andy has gone into a slam final having had (almost) as much time to recuperate from the semi as the guy on the other side of the net? The first time in New York he just about had time for a shower and a couple of hours kip before he was back out on the court. Then the two times in Australia he was in the half of the draw which was a day behind all the way through. THAT's going to make the difference this time. Not grasping at straws here!
Good point - and why not grasp at straws??!!
my taxi driver says this is andy's golden chance, thru to the final without playing the number 1 or 2 seed, in semi, as seeding would usually require. in other words, no rafa means that tomorrow is andy's lucky break, take it!

All I ask is that Andy bring his A game.
And also not to have one of those dreadful first serve days. If he is serving with that sweet, dare I say almost sexy, first serve rhythm that he had against Tsonga for the first 2 sets—I fancy his chances.
Good luck, my boy.

I can't wait for the final ! :yahoo:
Don't think I'll sleep much tonight! So want Andy to win this, he's worked so hard to get to this point. Most important for me though is that he plays his best tennis, no walkabouts like he did against Tsonga at the start of the 3rd set. If he still gets beaten having done that, then Fed was too good, nothing can be done. If he can play like he did the first 2 sets against Tsonga for the whole match then this will be an amazing match.
Good luck Andy, cheering you all the way! :cheer:
Andy is a fantastic talent , if he plays to the best of his ability , he can win this . Hopefully thats what happens !!!!!
Fed always has a period of losing focus in his matches these days. Yesterday, apparently Novak wasn't feeling very well so I think that made Fed look better than he is. Provided Andy can keep his focus, then I think he'll win. Fed is definitely far more beatable than Novak or Rafa. Provided Andy keeps calm and focused and plays with a reasonable amount of aggression, he should win.
I wasn't surprised to hear that Djoko wasn't well - he certainly didn't seem to be himself on court yesterday. I think you're right, Linda, that made Fed look better than he actually was. Apart from Djoko, he's had a really easy route to the final and he's still found it challenging.

Another night, another 5Live phone-in with Stephen Nolan about Andy and the usual nutters out in force. They have Andy's coach from Spain, Emilio Sanchez and asking him for his reaction to the likes of John McCririck who called Andy, "aggressive, insolent and all that is worse about Great Britain", unbelievable. I feel sorry for Emilio who obviously thought he was going to be talking about Andy the player and the person he knows rather than this "shock jock" interaction with idiots who say he is not good at tennis. They had Peter Alliss on but he couldn't bear it any longer and just said "I hope Andy Murray wins and now I'm going to bed".
But John McCririck is a complete nutter. What was he doing there and who on earth would take him seriously?

I am so nervous and i have been all day. I feel sick to my stomach with nerves so god only knows how poor Andy is feeling. I am so proud of him whatever happens in the final. I want him to win it so badly, he deserves it so much for having to put up with horrid people from his own Country like McCririck with their ignorant and revolting opinions about him when they don't know him.
I am feeling confident for Andy, i don't think Nole was anywhere near his best during the semi with Fed and he still have plenty of chances. Andy must have a good serving day to win but i believe he can do it and with Ivan's help and advice before the match can only help compared to his previous finals. I wont predict a scoreline but i feel Andy will win it, i don't know how and i know it wont be easy but i see him winning it.

Andy said he was taking inspiration from LeBron. Let's hope he can have the same ending.
It's more why BBC 5Live feel the need to have this kind of phone-in and on consecutive nights. Haters are going to hate and nobody not even a someone who knows Andy is going to convince them otherwise especially when you're dealing with the kind of sociopath who frequent this type of phone-in so all you end up with is bile being spouted and those who are on to defend Andy (not that they feel they should have to) are shocked at what they hear and because they are decent, reasonable people, what they have to say, sounds weak in comparison.
Andy, Your mind must be running like Wild Fire TONIGHT.

Best thing I heard since the semi final victory was a calm Ivan Lendl saying well done then asking Andy what time he wanted to practise (Saturday).
Job still to be done and not finished. I have been trying not to think about it too much. Next part in the process. Happy he has got to the final. Job still to be done. Andy to service well and go out with a concentrated game plan.
Act and react to the ebb of the flow of the match, tomorrow, Andy. But make it about your tennis.
Federer may serve well for large parts of the game. It could be a long five setter - in fact, much as I love Andy, it would be the biggest shock of my tennis watching career if Andy did it in straights.
Federer is smug off court, but no mug on court.
Andy Murray on court and on song is the reason I watch tennis.
What time was your practise yesterday? What time is the match tomorrow?
Have a good day at the office tomorrow Andy!
Serve well. Play your tennis on your day in your way -- make it your court!
All the best Andy!

Well Fed is the favourite but if Andy on his A game has a shot here. Ok Fed has the records and has mastered Andy in their previous slam finals, whilst Andy has matched well against him in Masters and edges the Head to Head overall. Both players are going for history and whilst Roger was impressive versus Nole (even if the Serb didn't have his best day) Andy has gained confidence from his performances in these championships and if he has the game plan right and has a good mental approach can certainly have a great day. A bit apprehensive but certainly looking forward to it. If Andy gives his all whatever the resullt we can have few complaints.
Just hope Andy goes out there and gives it his all , his very best .

My name is Mandiemoo. I am a Murrayholic. I can be found during matches wearing an unwashed blue 'Team Murray' tshirt, chomping on mint tictacs, biting my nails & considering borrowing the dogs toenails when mine are gone, hugging a Union jack cushion to my bosom & sweating from all manner of places.
On a slightly funny note, I misunderstood Dame Sue yeaterday when she was rattling on about what time coverage starts & thought that the match started at 3.30pm as thats when the HD channel is showing it. I proceeded to have a mini rant about how late that is, more time to wait etc. Relieved that it starts at 2pm, as confirmed by this wonderful website.
No words really. We all feel the same. Quite emotional, keep feeling tears forming when I think about it. Good Luck Andy, we're with you as always!

Whilst watching Andy at the French Open and at Queen's I never dreamt I'd be watching him today in the Wimbledon final. His matches over the last fortnight have been nightmares to watch and right now I feel sick at the thought of another traumatic afternoon! Whatever happens he's secured his place in history and should be very proud of his achievements. He truly deserves this and I'll have everything crossed for him; I know he can beat Federer but can he do it today? My head says no but my heart says YES! - please Andy beat him and make an old lady very very happy!

ugh just had coffee, think hot chocolate might be more soothing! Actually probably not!! So excited. Have to record and watch from about 2:30 as brother cant be taken to respite until after 2 o'clock. Have friends coming to watch so they had better not put it on before I come back  Are we all in our Andy regalia?
Can Andy do it? Yes. Will he do it? It depends. I think I'll have a fair idea when I see him come onto the court. If he has the rabbit in headlights look about him that he's had the last twice in a slam final......then sadly, no. But if he comes out looking calm, focused and business like, then there's every chance. It means so much to him but he more than knows what it feels like now to be in a slam final and so maybe the awe won't be quite so overwhelming this time. Maybe as the underdog he'll fair better - hopes and expectations have been so high the last 3 times. This time, because of those 3 losses IMHO people expect nothing but hope for everything - not quite so pressurising. To be honest I just want him to at least take a set - that would be a step in the right direction. Win, of course I want him to win but I'm not pinning everything on it. I'll be screaming at the telly like a goodun!
lol I did wonder who would point that out. At least English people are behind him too eh ;)?
I think the vast majority of English people have always been behind him - it's just a few unrepresentative idiots who comment on newspaper sites, etc, who give the opposite impression. Admittedly, the few people shouting for Tsonga on Centre Court on Friday tended to have English accents rather than French accents, but the crowd was overwhelmingly behind Andy. It could have been a bit louder, perhaps, but the noise level always tends to be proportional to the level of jeopardy - if it had gone to 5 sets, the decibel level would have rocketed, but it hardly ever felt like the result was in much doubt.
I didn't get that worried at any point during the semi ... Andy seemed well in control and it wasn't a huge surprise that he had a slight dip at the start of the 3rd set and Tsonga went on a bit of a hot streak. The only time it ever felt like it might go horribly wrong was when Tsonga saved break points at 4-4 in the 4th and then Andy serve came under pressure in the following game. I'd still have been confident of a Murray win had it gone to a 5th, but I'm glad it didn't! You could really feel the tension in the stands during that 9th game of the 4th set ... but the joy that erupted in the stands when he finally won (... was made to wait ... then won 'again' ...) was wonderful. :)
My throat is still sore from the shouting I did on Friday. :) I usually mainly shout 'come on Muzza' but that always gets so many odd looks that I just went with the more standard 'come on Andy' on Friday ... then found out a possible reason why 'come on Muzza' gets the strange looks when someone else shouted it and the people behind me laughed and went 'what's that weirdo talking about their mother for?'
Having said that, there was someone at my end of the court who yelled out "Come on Tsong-aaaaaaaa" a couple of times, so I decided that if they did that again, I was going to hit back with an immediate "Come on Muzz-aaaaaaaa" but sadly they shut up after that.
I guess that was all a bit off-topic :shamed: so onto the Final ...
Fed was playing absolutely brilliantly on Friday, so it could take near-perfection from Muzz to win today. Still, I'm sure Andy wouldn't have it any other way, and he was pretty brilliant himself, especially in the first couple of sets!
I just have a feeling that if Andy makes a good start and gets ahead (e.g. winning the 1st set like he did against Rafa in the semis last year), he'll do it - Fed's a great front runner, but not as relentless as Rafa or even Nole when he's behind. Getting ahead will be easier said than done, of course!
Come on Muzzaaaaaaaaaaa! :)
You can't argue with this stat tweeted in to the BBC:
No Scotsman has ever lost a Wimbledon singles final
NOT many folk mentioning the goat lost 6 finals (25%) losing 2 of his last 3 (66%)

Maria Navritialova said she was the most nervous in her last Wimbledon final, with everything at stake for Fed he is bound to be feeling the pressure.
In the last 2 years they've both won the same number of Slams, been to the same number of slam finals & won the same number of Masters 1000 tournaments...

would he want his final legacy to be getting spanked by andy ?

I think the 'dislike' comes from Andy having beaten him at a young age - which I can understand. I'm sure Federer will be all out to put Andy in his place.
Here's hoping Andy's keyed up from the start. Fingers crossed.

that and the brit press constantly asking him about andy
This. I don't think Fed dislikes Andy on a personal level. The thing he does dislike about Andy is his game because he knows it can cause him trouble.
We all know about political ‘spin’. But there is plenty of spin in tennis, too - and I’m not just referring to what the players do to the balls.
The spin from Roger Federer's fans is that he is playing as well as he was a few years ago. Pat Cash even said he was playing better than ever.
Fed's worshippers see what they want to see. But their spin before today’s match is part of a psychological battle - an attempt to convince us all that Fed is a more formidable opponent than he actually is.
The facts are rather different from the spin.
In the 5 years from 2003-07 Fed picked up 49 titles including 12 grand slams (1 in 2003, 3 in 2004, 2 in 2005, 3 in 2006 and 3 in 2007).
In the almost 5 years from 2008-12 Fed has picked up 21 titles including 4 grand slams (1 in 2008, 2 in 2009, 1 in '10 and none at all in 2011 and so far in 2012).
So Fed, who in the earlier years was averaging 2 or 3 slams a year, has in recent years averaged less than one a year.
Significantly he has not won a slam since he beat Andy in the final of the AO two and a half years ago.
Roger was in his prime from 2003-07, but has been in a slow but steady decline since then.
Does that make him an easy opponent for Andy? Of course, not.
Federer is still a great player.
But not quite as formidable as his fans make out.

Please let it be today. Good Luck Andy.

I do not think Federer dislikes Andy, or any other tennis player, unless they pose a threat to the "Roger Federer tennis legend" image.
I have only seen him play live once and some of his shots were aesthetically beautiful - and for brief moments I was enraptured in the same way as I can be during a piece of art which moves me or a life experience which goes beyond the fleeting. IMHO Rafa and Nole are supreme athletes and I admire their athletic prowess but it is indicative that they tend to be described in athletic rather than aesthetic terms.
Santori the magician had the "tennis hands" and he could give you the "wow" factor. But not the (major) winning factor.
I am on this forum because Andy, from my country, also creates those moments, in a slightly different way. He has the hands of Santori and I can purr with the satisfaction of seeing grace, intelligence and competitiveness in one single shot or rally. An artist, a mathematician and an athlete in the same breath.
And he has had the potential to be a winner as well. He is many tennis players' favourite player to watch. Perhaps the top tennis player who has provided the aesthetic competiton to Roger Federer.
If Federer dislikes him, I believe that is why.
Now go out and achieve greatness Mr. Andrew Murray!
C'mon Andy!
