Movement is almost certainly still Laura's enemy on clay. Just a matter of time.

Absolutely shocking comments about Bartoli! Whilst not on the same scale someone was rude to Laura last night after she had tweeted.
I didn't know that Laura had also received a bit of abuse.
Sometimes I look at peoples' comments online, and wonder what makes people tick. Comments on youtube is another example.
Someone I know of - we have mutual friends - has recently been trolled on Twitter by some guy in the USA. She has been in touch with Twitter to see how she can stop this, but Twitter have replied along the lines of open discussion.
I am thinking that they should tighten things up - I guess in the same way that Facebook was forced to reiew its own policies on this front.
I also saw that tweet quoting all those disgraceful tweets about Bartoli. I tweeted back that all those people should be banned from Twitter. But of course they won't be, they'll be left alone to continue getting their kicks by being extremely nasty to people whilst they hide behind their computers. :grrr:

I read the same post and found it truly shocking - surely there must be some way of moderating these social networking sites.

I was very sorry to hear that Marion is retiring but it seems like she played with pain for some time and understandable she has decided to take this decision. At least she can go out on a high, her Wimbledon win was so unexpected and even if she had the luck of the draw was a great triumph. Know she wasn't everyone's cup of tea but she was a bit different and I was a fan! I wish her all the best for the future.

Great comeback from Azarenka to beat Serena 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (8-6)in the Cincy final ,looked like being very straightforward initially. A few twists and turns in that final set as Vika was up 4-2 and then Serena served for it at 5-4 but it was a relatively weak game from her side. Tiebreak was also a bit of a mirror image but Vika found a way.

Fascinating match on now in Montreal between Aga and Pavlyuchenkova. Aga was almost down and out but managed to come back and win 2nd set TB. So interesting to watch Aga hang in there and fight, and how the psychology of Pavly was working...or not working as it turned out! She rather went to pieces in the TB. It's interesting how much of sport is between the ears! My money is on Aga pulling this one off now. I hope so.

Well they might as well invent a completely new sport - "MTBs and no Ad" is just not tennis.
Why does everything have to be geared towards the lowest common denominator - do they really think everyone has the concentration span of a midge? Then, of course, there is the God of television, at whose shrine we all have to worship. It's madness - they will eventually kill the game we all love.
I hate MTB. I hate them in doubles, and I would hate them in singles regardless of the gender of player. In fact I hate ordinary tiebreaks as well.

Professor Ayotte was also clear that she could not rule out the possibility that the means of ingestion was through food being contaminated by the Femara in the way suggested on the Player’s behalf.
Sara's name was also linked with the dodgy Spanish doctor who was involved in doping several years ago.

Italy's former world number five Sara Errani has been banned for two months after failing a drugs test - because her mother's cancer drug accidentally contaminated a family meal.

Surely it must be possible to tell if it is minute amounts as you would expect with contamination or a larger amount. Minute amounts could not be in any way performance enhancing and was clearly accidental so I think this ban is totally ludicrous!

Went to Rogers Cup yesterday and got to see my faves: Garbine, Aga and Johanna. Also saw Martina Hingis in the suite next to us having a natter and a cup of tea. The matches were pretty one-sided but then it was the second round. But the Venus match was hotly contested. I only saw the first set of Johanna's match but the quality from both players was TREMENDOUS! Too bad they weren't on centre court but I did get to see them really close up so that was good.

Caroline Wozniacki defeated world number one Karolina Pliskova 7-5 6-7(3) 6-4 in a marathon Rogers Cup quarter-finals match in Toronto marred by four rain delays on Friday.
The delays, which all came during the first set, appeared to boost the sixth-seeded Dane, who was trailing 3-0 when the match was interrupted.

Whatever has happened to Aga Radwanska?
Well Aga seemed to have lost form and confidence, reached last 16 at Wimbledon did win a few matches in Montreal but comprehensively beaten in each case, to Wozniacki last week. Georges has had a few good wins but Radwanska should have the measure of her and quite a few early losses this year. On the subject of Wozniacki hasn't really come close in any of her finals this season,Svitolina was playing well though.
That was some mauling that Garbine gave Halep today. 6-1 6-0. Well done Gaby!!
Garbine was amazing !!
Halep had no answers , and looked like she gave up

So many of the big names out in the first round at Wuhan.

Maybe not totally surprising but the manner of Sloane's defeat was disappointing , however whist not guaranteed still think can have more big moments. Hopefully not another Monica Puig who has struggled since the Olympics. A bit taken aback Wozniacki beat the new world no1 Muguruza so easily in Pan Pacific semis ,first win in 7 finals for Caroline this season.
I really like Ash Barty. I've not really noticed her before but I have watched her progress this week and think she has a great attitude. She seems so grounded and lacking in airs and graces, unlike Ostapenko - whom she beat today. I really can't take to her at all. I'm hoping for a good, close match against Garcia in the final tomorrow.
I see Sharapova(WC) beat Savastova (16 seed) today in Beijing. Looked like a close match....7-6, 5-7, 7-6. H'mmmm!
A strange final between Barty and Garcia in Wuhan. Some great points but some really nervy ones too. Garcia served twice for the first set and lost it. Barty served twice for the match in the second set and lost it. Garcia eventually took it in the third to win her first Premier WTA title. I have to say it was played in a really good spirit though - no histrionics from either girl even when the going got tough and a great handshake at the end. Well done girls!
Garcia beat Halep today in Beijing. I was hoping Simona could do it for 2 reasons. 1..To reward her for defeating Shrieky and 2...to help Johanna's chances of qualifying for Singapore. Looks pretty uncertain for Jo now. Unfortunate.

Halep did clinch no1 ranking though so well done when missed chance a few times, how long she will hold it though another matter. Certainly not great for Jo but Garcia has been impressing the past few weeks.
For the same reasons, I was rooting for Halep too but you can't take it away from Garcia - she is playing consistently well. She seems to be fulfilling her potential at last. Maybe Andy was right and she will be a future number one. Congratulations to Simona though - she has been knocking on the door for a long time. All she needs now is a Major title.
I don't know if this is the right one, but Martina Hingis has announced her retirement. Not good news for Jamie Murray.

Didn't see it coming but Martina says she wants to go out on top, whilst personally disappointed respect her decision and the reasoning. It has been great career firstly in singles and then doubles (10 slam titles came following her 2013 comeback) http://www.wtatennis.com/news/you-want-stop-top-hingis-explains-retirement-decision
Meanwhile Venus Williams overcame Gabrine Muguruza 7-5, 6-4 in a reverse of the Wimbledon final , unfortunately this now means the spaniard is out of contention in Singapore whilst Venus, Karolina Pliskova and Caroline Wozniacki qualify for semis. Halep, Garcia and Svitolina still in the hunt for the other place.

Caroline takes title 6-4, 6-4- well done! Venus fought back from 0-5 to 4-5 couldn't extend the match further. Wouldn't have picked Wozniacki to take WTA champs at start of event but did play very well having also got the better of Pliskova 7-6, 6-3 in semis. Another great run from Venus but fell short.
Unfortunately it wasn't a fairy tale ending for Martina Hingis as with partner Yung-Jan chan she lost in semis to eventual winners 3rd seeds Babos/Hllavackova 6-4,7-6. They took title over Bertens/Larsson 10-5 in mtb.
It would have been amazing for Venus to win at 37 but, I have to say, I'm delighted for Caroline. Well done her - it's been a long time coming! Not quite a Major title but almost as good as.

Azarenka out now though, going down to Sloane Stephens 6-1, 7-5. Kvitova's 14 match winning streak ended by 16 year old Amanda Aminisova 6-2, 6-4. In last night's 3rd round clash Venus got the better of Serena 6-3, 6-4, though failed to serve it out first time at 5-2. (her first win over younger sister in 4 years, Serena had also won 8 of the last 9 matches) . 4th seed Svitolina now also out to Suarez Navarro, though Wozniacki got through in 3.

Serena Williams goes out to Naomi Osaka 6-3, 6-2 in first Miami match- much been made about status of players returning after pregnancy (Serena has been unseeded) but 2019 the earliest there will be changes (though Wimbledon don't need to strictly following rankings-wta decided by committee even if they rarely make changes) Williams certainly outplayed in any case. Osaka was the surprise Indian Wells winner putting out Pliskova, Halep and comfortable winner over Kasatkina (who had put out Wozniacki,Kerber and Venus along the way). Meanwhile Marion Bartoli who was originally returning in Miami has delayed comeback, may play in Birmingham.

On balance think I'd favour a change, may not particularly be a barrier for the likes of Serena but tough on 2nd tier.
I'm with Minella. If Serena was good enough on her comeback she would be winning. I really don't see why a player coming back from maternity leave should have preferential treatment over players who are coming back from injury. Would we expect Andy to be seeded on his comeback? We can't ask for equality for women and then winge when it doesn't work in our favour.

Whilst Wimbledon can alter seedings with their special formula, is it correct that it only affects the order of the 32 seeds i.e. they can't promote someone outside the top 32 into a seeded position?

Well done to Sloane Stephens who took the Miami title with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 win over Jelena Ostapenko. Bit of a tight and tense first set before Sloane ran away with it, high error count from Jelena whilst Stephens was relying more on her defensive skills. Had been a bit of a barren spell lately. There was also a good run from Azarenka who reached the semis with wins over Radwanska (who put out top seed Hakep) and Pliskova. After putting out Jo Konta Venus Wiliams was well beaten in quarters by qualifier Danielle Collins.

Watching the womens' semi-final - Halep v Sharapova. I can't watch it with the sound up though - the screeching from both of them is a nightmare, although Shriekapova is marginally the worse.
