View Full Version : Wimbledon 2013 - Ballot, tickets and who's going.
i am from Brazil and going this year to see Andy, i have a very important question for me.
I m going to the final day, i just want to see the game at the big screnn in front central court. Do they sell ground admission for final day ? What time may i have to arrive ath the queue ? Is possible to buy in advance the groun ticket ?
Thanks for any help !
:welcome: to the forum Gutto. I am sure someone on here can help you.
I managed to get some 1st monday court 1 tickets in the club ballot. Probably won't see Andy but may try and figure something out if he is on centre but should be some great matches on outside courts and hopefully court 1! Just awaiting email from LTA Now. Can't wait!

Ive been trying for 7 years in the public one and 2 in the LTA one. So 1 out of 7 in public one and 1 out of 2 in LTA One.

I tried for 9 years on the run in public ballot and got nothing. Then started work again so didn't apply for 5 years. Have been doing it for 8 years now and lucky just this year. It not worth applying when in teaching as wouldn't be able to go even if I'd been lucky unless it had been Saturday or Final tickets. It didn't stop my son and I going a few times on the last weekend and queuing and I was on the hill for the final last year. I paid for Hospitality in 2009 but couldn't do that every year.

Congratulations! I managed to get tickets for Court No. 1 on the first Friday too, and it was my first time at entering the ballot, though it was the public ballot for me rather than the LTA ballot! But anyway, lets hope there are some great matches on that day and that the weather is kind to us!
They usually put Andy on Court 1 once during the championships, last year it was in Round 4, and the year before that it was Round 2, so lets hope this year its Round 3 and that Andy is in the top half of the draw! :big grin:

If I decide to purchase a debenture seat, anyone have an opinion or experience on which website offers the best pricing? Seems like on a few different ones, prices vary quite a bit
I have been applying for the public ballot for 20 years and have been lucky a number of times .... although nothing for the last 2 years, so perhaps my luck has run out. I also used to be in the LTA ballot but am not a member any more. There is apparently more chance of getting tickets in the LTA ballot but I've been less lucky in that one.
My best years were when my husband was a memebr of a tennis club (I don't play) and I got tickets every year during that time, ususally had our pick of days as well.

It's not like overhead luggage space on a plane so I'm sure a cm will be fine. They just don't want folk going in with huge bags. Never seen anyone with a tape measure or thing they use to check the size of luggage at the airport!

Still a good view. I am afraid if you don't queue, you nearly always end up right at the back. My friend has row X. I realise a couple of years the debenture seats occupy approximately rows A - L (not the ones in the West and East Open stands) and then there is hospitality, so if you don't get right at the front you are likely to be Row S/T to Row ZF.

Actually my major concern is not really about the few days of stay during wimbledon, it's that I'll take my flight home the day after my wimbledon trip and it's essential to get myself clean up before that 13 hours long haul flight to Hong Kong....
I'll consider booking myself into a hotel then, which is crazily expensive during the wimbledon weeks :(

Yes, I'm sure you'll be able to get yourself showered at the airport.
Whilst in the queue, I suggest you take a plastic bowl with you and a towel so you can collect some water from the basins in the toilet block and wash yourself in the privacy of your tent.

Hi, i don't have tickets to swap for those two days, however i would be willing to buy the tickets off you for court one on day 1. Manic Monday is busier than Middle Saturday. But unless i got tics for these days i tend to watch at home on both those days. However if you can camp Friday you will be ok for tics for the Saturday i would imagine. You would be better off going for the Saturday rather than middle Monday.Up to you tho obviously. Only other thing try Friday morning on Ticketmaster for Saturday tickets. Or Sunday morning for Manic Monday tics.
A couple of years ago I queued on the Friday for the middle Saturday. I got there about 8am Friday and got a Centre Court ticket on the Saturday. Probably those getting there before 9am Friday got their choice of court on Saturday. As we packed away our tents Saturday morning and lined up, there were already people there queueing for the Monday. If you left it till Sunday to join the queue, I should think you'd definitely be too late to get your choice of court on the Monday.

They shut the queue when the grounds are full or the estimated ticket sales including those up to a certain numbered ticket in the queue would match the capacity allowed in for safety reasons.

Probably those getting there before 9am Friday got their choice of court on Saturday. As we packed away our tents Saturday morning and lined up, there were already people there queueing for the Monday. If you left it till Sunday to join the queue, I should think you'd definitely be too late to get your choice of court on the Monday.
They deffo closed the queue 2 years running on the middle Sunday afternoon. I think they may reopen it on the Monday for Groundies but i think you have got to be there really early.
Thanks everyone. That's a real shame as Monday is the day we had planned to go. Hubby has booked the day off work so the dogs are not on their own for hours and hours, so we can't really change it. Our only option would be to go on Saturday and camp 2 nights which I have to be honest I'm not that keen to do ..... It would be fine if you could pitch your tent and then go off into the village or something but to have to sit there for 2 whole days ....... especially if Andy was playing on the Saturday! Do they have screens in the queue so you can watch the tennis?
I guess we have been spoilt in the past as one of us has managed to get tickets most years. Oh well ...... We need to have a talk and decide if we are willing to camp 2 nights.
Linda - you drove down didn't you? Where did you park? Assuming we still go, we would need to park the whole of Sunday as the Wimby car parks won't be open.
EDIT: Yes, I know they shut the queue when the ground reaches capacity - I've been in it when that has happened - many years ago queuing for ground passes. I meant I didn't think that would happen the day before.

Hi, i don't have tickets to swap for those two days, however i would be willing to buy the tickets off you for court one on day 1. Which would free up the cash for you to obtain tics for the friday or Sat either thro ticketmaster or the queue? If you are in the queue by 5.30am you get a choice of court either one or 2. Let me know if this is of any help to you.
I have tickets for the Ladies semi final that I would swop, unfortunately my Husband is having chemotherapy every 3 weeks and the semis fall on that week

In reply to the question about parking, it was a nightmare. When I got there in the morning I parked in the public car park, which is the one you are meant to use for the queue, and carried my tent and stuff to set up in the queue. But it closes at night so you have to drive out and find somewhere to park on the road. In the morning, when the parking restrictions come into operation and the car park opens again, you have to get your car and park it in the public car park again. Of course it is pandemonium with all the hundreds of people trying to do that. At the same time they are getting people to pack up their tents and stand in line - I was really panicking about getting back to my tent (I had collapsed it, of course, but it and all my belongings were there) but thankfully two Dutch girls who were next to me in the queue moved my stuff for me. Then I had to quickly put all my stuff in my car & get back in line for the handing out of the wristbands for choice of court. You really need two people together, so one can be moving the car whilst the other looks after the stuff in the queue.
Hi all.
Wimbledon have strict rules about selling on or swapping of tickets.
Please be aware that they can randomly check that the ticket holder DID purchase the tickets themselves by asking for ID at the entrance gates (they don't often do this but would if there was a rush of tout tickets) and you could be thrown out of the grounds if they think you've come by tickets dishonestly or in a way they disapprove (you may need to claim cousinship ...).
Whilst we don't object to forum members alerting others to ticket availability it's preferable that any 'transaction' discussions are done by PM rather than in the open forum. If you've got tickets that you cannot use there'll undoubtedly be someone who'd love to make use of them so just ask people to PM you and stand by for the deluge!!! (i.e. queue ...)

I did think of that once I had posted my message .
I think I will send the tickets back to the Wimbledon ticket office and they can be resold.
Probably not thinking straight have had a bad day with hubby today he started his chemo on Monday and although I love my tennis there are more important issues at the moment.

Oh heck Linda, it does sound like a complete nightmare!! We are re-considering our options and might plump for camping Friday night for tickets Saturday like you did That's the only other day we can both do now. Seeing as parking is not easy and expensive (2 days = £50 I think), we may go by train.
Can get into London for 7am then we should get to the queue by 8.30 Friday morning at the latest. Do you / others think that would be early enough to get a choice of court?? Will be just our luck that Andy plays Friday .... that's why we chose 2nd Monday as all remaining players play that day plus you don't miss a day's tennis in the queue! .... seems everyone else has the same idea!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed Andy plays Saturday but he could be on the same side of the draw as Federer as he will be seeded No. 2 or 3 and Federer will open play on Monday as he won last year. I will be really disappointed if he is on Federer's side of the draw!!!!!
I will be really disappointed if he is on Federer's side of the draw!!!!!
The alternative is to be on Novak's side of the draw which is a much scarier option.

I said that Linda because I have tickets for Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday! I agree it would be harder for him to beat Djoko than Fed.
Beating Nole on grass? I don't think Nole is all that great on grass to be honest... Yes he won wimby in 2011 beating Rafa, though he was doing that after a mass winning spree and confidence! If there is anyone we should be worried about Andy being in the same half with, surely it's Rafa...
Fed is getting older as we know, and also as we know Andy can beat him on grass :big grin:
Andy has always struggled with Rafa at wimby
but anywho, we'll have to see how the seedings go, but I am personally hoping that Andy is seeded 3 and rafa 4. Not really worried whether he is in Nole's or Fed's side if that is the case. Although if I had to pick one, I agree with Linda, Nole is the scarier thought, so for Andy's mental edge a fed semi would be better. Rafa is the main threat to Andy on grass I feel.

Ooh don't say that. I have tickets for the first Wednesday so I want him to play Mon Wed Fri hopefully!
Haha, totally with you on that one! I have tickets for the first Friday! Although I'm on Court 1 so I will probably not see him play even if he is in that side of the draw, although they usually put him on Court 1 at least once during the championships so could be lucky!
If Andy in Fed's half & therefore playing Friday we might just get to the queue early on Friday for ground passes then get in the resales queue especially if Andy plays last which he often does .... decisions, decisions! It's certainly not easy to queue if you don't live in London!
I can't decide if I want Andy to play on the first Thursday, which is when i am going, or not as I have court 3 tickets and I know if Andy is playing I will want to line up for resale tickets for the court he will be on and risk missing some of the enjoyment i want my first experience of Wimbledon to be cause I will be worrying whether I will get to see Andy or not. Whereas if he plays on the Friday, I have hotel tickets for Thursday night and could queue Friday to hopefully get tickets for the court he is on or the resale and I will have already enjoyed a stress free day at Wimbers on Thursday. Decisions, decisions!!!!!
I would prefer him to be on Fed's side and if anyone is interested to swap my 2 court 1 tix mon24th for any on 28/29th please PM me.

The general Wimby info thread is closed at the mo so does anyone know if there is unrestricted parking around the AELTC on middle Sunday?? We are planning to get there early Sunday morning to queue for tickets on Monday. We will then park in the Wimby car park when it opens on Monday morning.
It would be fab to meet up with anyone else who is planning to queue that day ......
Hi Caro
Do you mean this thread? (http://www.andymurrayfanforum.com/forums/showthread.php?1141-WIMBLEDON-GENERAL-INFORMATION-Travel-Times-Tickets-Queue-Camping-Parking)
If so it's always kept locked because then we can keep it to a few posts of vital information making it easier for those going to find what they're after. There's some 'fan experiences' in one of the posts and other information about parking and so on. We try to updated (and need to check prices for this year too).
PARKING
There are a couple of other options you could consider:-
1. Use the Park and Ride and leave your car there for Sun/Mon? It's cheaper parking and you can put your gear into a Left Luggage locker in the camping area.
2. There are lots of local residents offering parking at various rates, most less than the official car parks.
Otherwise, Linda's post is really useful so I'll copy it and any other updated information into the locked thread.
It would be fine if you could pitch your tent and then go off into the village or something but to have to sit there for 2 whole days ....... especially if Andy was playing on the Saturday! Do they have screens in the queue so you can watch the tennis?
You'll see, in this post (http://www.andymurrayfanforum.com/forums/showthread.php?1141-WIMBLEDON-GENERAL-INFORMATION-Travel-Times-Tickets-Queue-Camping-Parking&p=73576&viewfull=1#post73576), that some overseas fans blithely ignored the requirement to 'stay by tent' and went off into Wimbledon village!!!.
I don't think they have screens in the camping area - or peeps would stay there all week. However, once the queue starts wending it's way down the park and nears the security barriers I seem to recall seeing some small TV screens up on posts.
I guess we have been spoilt in the past as one of us has managed to get tickets most years. Oh well ...... We need to have a talk and decide if we are willing to camp 2 nights.
It'd be worth speaking with Jambon or Kelle on either twitter or Facebook (and thence by email). They're veteran campers at Wimbledon!!! I think last year they camped for 2 nights and booked rooms for the 3rd night at a hotel so they could get a decent kip and a shower. They stayed with me one year and I took them to catch the first tube in on alternate mornings so they could camp 1 night to get Centre Court tickets to see Andy and then have beds for the night at mine.
EDIT: Yes, I know they shut the queue when the ground reaches capacity - I've been in it when that has happened - many years ago queuing for ground passes. I meant I didn't think that would happen the day before. It seems to have happened more in recent years; quite often it's announced on the Radio that there's no point going to camp for next day tix because the queue is already full. Incredible really.
When I was in the queue the stewards came round regularly to make sure people were actually there. They removed a tent from the queue because it was empty.
It is possible to leave the grounds and re-enter at any point using the same tickets?

Well can be expensive, though have always stayed in the grounds myself.
It's not so much the prices as the queues at the food outlets that are the problem - I normally take in my own sandwiches (unless I've been queueing for 24 hours, in which case I'll have run out of my own food).

Yes won't be as busy then, usually I buy some sandwiches before play starts too. When you go out midmatch you have to wait for a change of ends for exiting and entering your seat.

Same as any "event" its ok for snack stuff, i tend to if i have tics go to the Sainsbury on the way and stock up on stuff and go to chipper when i come out for proper food. If i have to queue then just have to accept its expensive and buy some bits and bobs in there. Wouldn't buy a full meal in there tho. That is expensive.

I won't, he has to beat everyone to win. Rather fed in the semi get it over with. Then beat Djokovic or Rafa in the final.
In terms of going to Wimby, I also don't want Andy on Fed's side of the draw cos as it stands at the mo (keep changing our minds!) we are planning to camp Friday for tickets Saturday. So if Andy played Friday I wouldn't even be able to watch on TV as we'll be in the queue .... plus it would mean I wouldn't get to see him live on Saturday.

I am an LTA member as well, and about 3 years ago I did get Men#s Finals tickets about this time, because I remember I got the e mail and couldn't open it due to the catchpa, and thought it would be rubbish tickets, I nearly fell off the chair when I saw they were for the Final.

Finally I've found time to get on here for a few minutes ..... the first time since the DC in Coventry! Slightly embarrassed to say we've been extra lucky with Wimbledon tickets this year .... I got first Tues. Centre Court in our club ballot; Niknak got middle Saturday Court 1 in his other club ballot and I got 2nd Thurs. Court 1 in the public ballot ..... they may not be the perfect courts and days but what I love about Wimbledon is who knows what will happen with the weather and hence the schedule. Court 1 2nd Thurs. is normally all doubles (not complaining at all) but if its been raining earlier in the tournie .... who knows what we could get??? Hope to see some of you there
That's fantastic niknaks's mum. Sure you will see some great matches. Glad your tickets showed up SG. :)
I'm really getting excited even though on court 3, the experience will be great and just being at Wimbledon is something I have dreamed of for as long as I can remember. I hope to be able to get a ticket for other days as well but it will depend on how easy it is for me to get there. Really think the best chance I might have is queueing on the first Friday after I go on the Thursday as will be staying in a hotel Thursday night. Could also go later on first Wednesday. What is the likelihood of being able to get into the grounds Wednesday afternoon/early evening for the later matches?

If it's after 5pm, and enough people have left they sell ground passes cheaper than earlier in the day. You used to be able to get in easily after 5 ...... saying that though, everything is so much busier than it used to be. I am sure it is still possible to get in though.

He does like tennis as he loves all sport (with the exception of football) but I'm in charge.....!!!

I can't believe they would shut the queue completely :surprised: In another post murrayrocks you said there would still be court 1 and 2 tickets at 5.30am on the day of play ie. in this case Monday morning.
If we got in the queue by about 8am on Sunday morning, don't people think there is any chance of tickets for Monday (2nd Monday)? Never queued before and don't want to go all that way for one day's tennis if we aren't likely to get centre or no 1 court ..... Not sure we would consider camping for 2 nights.
Anyone have a good guess what day and time you'd have to be in the queue for Wed, July 3rd (quarterfinals) Centre Court tix?

All the advice I was given about 2nd Monday said I would need to camp 2 nights to get centre court and apparently some people even camp 3 nights ie. from the Friday night for Monday.
I would guess it would be similar for mens quarters as they are so much more popular than the womens, but others will know more than me as a wimby camp queue virgin ......

I also thought it would be much busier and more highly sought after, but thought that camping during the weekend might bring out more people. I'd be interested to hear other campers input...
I think it's the second Monday that you have to queue the longest for. I know people have got into the second Wednesday who only joined the queue first thing Tuesday morning. But of course that's no guarantee that you would this year.
Anyone who has tickets for the men's final this year must have them steaming! Such great tickets to have any year, but especially this year!

Why especially this year?
Why especially this year?
Andy was massively in the public eye last year with him in the final last year, his gold medal victory and then his USO slam. As we all know there hasn't been a British winner at wimby in years so therefore it would be incredibly special to be in the presence of a victory. Because of last year people are viewing this year as Murray's best chance, although I know arguably he has had chances in previous years too and will most likely in the future - talking in the general perspective here.

Yes, but unfortunately (for him, not me) Rafa is back this year. I don't think Andy's ever beaten Rafa at Wimbly. I guess what I mean is I think it'll be harder for him to even get to the final this year.
You're right, Andy has never beaten Rafa on grass, and if Rafa is fully fit then Andy wouldn't want to be meeting him in the semis - or the quarters, as Rafa will be 5th seed. On the other hand, we don't know how fit Rafa will be as he withdrew from Halle to rest his knee so is not playing any grass tournament before Wimbly.

I don't think him missing Halle means anything. I think he's just - finally - arranging his schedule properly, which he should have done years ago. I mean, Djokovic isn't playing any warm-ups either.
Novak isn't playing an ATP tournament, but he's playing at Boodles.
Completely agree, Rafa will be Andy's toughest challenge at Wimby, I just hope he is put in the other half of the draw - and if I'm mean put in the same quarter as Djokovic :p

I just hope there's grass courts in Majorca for him to practise on. ;)
No, there aren't - he'll be coming to England next week and starting his grass practice at Wimbledon.
Very much hope Rafa doesn't pull out of Wimby and his practice time there works out well for him. The draw should be very interesting this year.

Well, I'm about to go out but thought I'd better check my emails first - and it's a good job I did. I had an email from British Tennis Membership entitled 'Wimbledon tickets offer reminder'. I opened the email and it was completely blank! I was rather puzzled, but then thought this might be a reminder about an earlier email. So I looked back the last few days and found an email that I'd missed before, offering me 2 tickets for the first Thursday in the members' second chance ballot! They had to be paid for by today or I would lose them! So of course I paid immediately. :big grin:
Now I will be late for the church Curry Nite tonight but I think Wimbly tickets are more important! ;)

And something else happened tonight at the church do! Someone said her friend's dad had won two complimentary tickets for Eastbourne this Sunday (they've got a legends exho match) and can't go, so do I want them? Of course I said yes - I've got to phone him in the morning to arrange picking them up.
Pity I didn't do the lottery today as well!!!

Hope you have a fab day Linda! Which court have you got? Will you still be camping as well?
Hope your football team person finds the tickets Pat .... I would be round there offering to look for them ;)
Centre Court. I may still be camping as well, depending on the draw. Obviously I can't camp Thursday for Friday now so hope I'll be camping Friday for Saturday.
After I denied a offer for second friday of court 1, I'm ready to go for two days (or also three) of wimbledon grounds queue. I read the other thread about hint and suggestion for a best queue experience but I didn't found a hint about the hour to reach the queue.
I'm thinking to go not only thursday and friday sure, but also saturday: could you tell me what hour is better to enter the grounds code. As Saturday is generally a qork off day, it is better to reach the queue some minutes before? (always for grounds tickets).

I'm sure there are people who have queued far more than I have on here but it depends which Court you want to go on. If you are happy to have a Ground Pass (all Courts apart from Centre, Court 1 and Court 2) you do not need to get there so early. It is best to arrive before the public transport starts as people starting flooding down from around 6.30 a.m. Also if you get there at, say, 8 a.m. you may find the grounds are full by the time you get near the ticket booths and you will then have to wait until people leave for the day. I have gone on the first few days at between 3 and 4 a.m. and have always been offered tickets for either Courts 1 or 2. For Centre Court, as I am sure other people will tell you, you would need to be there at least 24 hours beforehand, especially for the first Saturday and the second Monday. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the answer. But I didn't understand where start the morning queue: in the park? I went in Wimbledon only one time (last yeat but via Ballot) and I don't have experience about the queue and I will try to get a ticket for grounds (not show courts,).

The queue starts in Wimbledon Park which is North of the grounds. The nearest tube would be Southfields but even if you are just queuing for the grounds go as early as you can!

I'm queuing Friday for Saturday or if Andy is playing Friday may just go for a ground pass Friday then join the Saturday queue Friday evening. May only get a ground pass for Sat but would mean we would have 2 days there and have B&B booked for Sat night.
Can't wait! Only have to work 2 days next week then the rest of wimby off

I'm off to Eastbourne tomorrow for the semis and next week I am at Wimbledon Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Really hoping Andy & Rafa on that side of the draw. May queue the 2nd Monday and will go either to mens' quarters or ladies semis whichever one I can get tickets for.
My tickets arrived today. They are not in the Z rows this time! They are in row Y :rolling:
I am also hoping that Andy & Rafa are playing Tue/Thur/Sat - my tickets are for Thursday and I hope to camp Friday for Saturday. If they are playing Mon/Wed/Fri then I am scuppered as obviously I can't queue on Thursday for Friday.

I have 2 debenture tickets that were gifted to me for Court One on the Monday of the 2nd week (1st July). This is the day when everyone who is still in the draw is playing so you are sure to get some big names playing.
I was hoping to take a family member with me who is a massive tennis fan and has never been to the hallowed turf! Unfortunately they cannot make this date so I am looking to try and swap my 2 tickets with someone. I am hoping to swap them for 2 tickets on the Friday of the first week (28th June) on either Centre Court or Court One.
If anyone here is interested give me a shout, tanks in advanced fellow Murray fans, I once played against the man himself in a Scottish schools event- hoping he can do the business this year.
