View Full Version : Wimbledon 2013 - Ballot, tickets and who's going.
Wimbledon @Wimbledon
Completed #Wimbledon ballot forms for The Championships 2013 must be posted to us by 31 December 2012 http://bit.ly/PQKr4I
I received my ballot form a few days ago so hoping to send it off next week
Crikey - don't forget it may get stuck in the Xmas post!!!
Last year I forgot to apply - but still managed to get to Wimbly twice. So I think I won't bother with the ballot this year.

Me too, Vixs. It's my 60th birthday during Wimbledon fortnight so thought I'd try and get tickets. Although, of course if I am lucky I will then have to get air fare over from Las Vegas at an expensive time. We shall see!!!
Oh Genbrit, it would be great if you came over so we could all meet you!

2nd time of trying cross fingers.
Talk about jealous. One of my colleagues yesterday told me her hubby, as a surprise Christmas pressy, has bought her tix for the first Friday.........I said I thought you had to be in the ballot. Then I realised they must be debenture seats.....so I Googled........must have cost him about £1600! But for anyone who bought a debenture in the last round (£27,000), if you can sell your seat all the way through the fortnight, it looks like a good return on your money over 5 years. A pair of tix for the mens' final is something like £6700 (so £3350 per debenture holder)!
My surprise pressy was a cookery book..........it's ok.......he's still alive!!

3rd year in a row I've forgotten!! Albeit this year I've only just missed it rather than realising in about February. Been twice with tickets and once without although one year with tickets I saw just over an hour of play and that was it. Pretty sure that was the first time actually. Might go for DC instead later this year
I applied in the ballot last year for the first time, and was so lucky to get tickets for the Men's Final. Still makes me cry to think about it! I haven't applied this year, figured I couldn't possibly beat tickets for the final. Hope those who have entered the ballot are lucky, it was such a great day (even with the pesky Federer fans.......)

That was certainly beginners luck Jan, though of course pity Andy lost to Fed that time! Never been to final yet in years of trying.

I've been to one final - Hewitt v Nalbandian in 2002. The most one sided final in years! They weren't my tickets though, they were Gill's.
I've been very lucky overall though - one of us has got tickets most years. We had men's semis in 2009 and 2011 and both times the seats were near the front! We didn't get anything last year but I was lucky enough to be in the right place (ie on here) at the right time and got to go to mens semis for the 3rd time in 4 years, this time with Linda.
Hoping for more good luck this year!! Greedy ......

You've certainly been pretty lucky Caro, though suppose you're always wanting more! Didn't go at all last year but was at SW19 for the Olympic tennis.

Fingers crossed everyone ......

I didn't enter the ballot this year. I will be relying on either the last minute online tickets or on queueing (must look out my tent).

Seems a bit early this year. I seem to remember the last couple of years its been March before we heard. I'll keep telling myself that for a couple of weeks if nothing turns up.
Good luck everyone - I've been lucky the last couple of years so cant expect to be in the mix again so I've just booked my 02 tickets for November

Same here, its my favourite two weeks of the year by far always take the time off work and watch it from start to finish either there or on the Good old BBC. I was successful in the ballot last year centre Court on day one which was fab. Hope to be successful again this year but its prob asking too much

Hi Pat, I'm keeping everything crossed. Haven't had any tickets via Wimbledon ballot for about 6 years, although lots of my friends have (luckily good friends to me!) and I got them in the British Ballot 3 years ago. That's why I get several tickets for World Tour Finals so I know I have that to look forward to. Also hope to go to Roland Garros again and I already have tickets for Paris Masters end October.
Wow, I got tickets for Court 3 on the first Thursday. I had told myself that if I didn't get centre or court 1 I wouldn't go as it will cost a fortune getting to Uk from Vegas. Now I'm not sure what to do as it would be an experience going to Wimbledon.
Ok, as the previous years, the first dispatch of wimbledon letter are always for court 3. For the "biggest prizes" we will wait at least 1 or 2 weeks.

Well done Genbrit! Realise it is a bit of a dilema for you being so far away, but sure you would have a great time even if not quite the same as Centre or 1 should you take up the offer

In the last 10 years or so have entered the ballot 7 times and never been lucky.
Genbrit, you should definitely come. Once inside you can always queue for the resale tickets for Centre or Court 1. You could also queue for a ground pass on other days and then again queue for resale tickets once inside.
We do like queueing over here!
Lol! We are definitely a nation of queuers ;) I would say to go for it too genbrit. Relatively early days so hopefully some great action too! And potential for resales
Thanks for all the advice. Really want to go to Wimbledon but have a lot going on. Did think I could get resale once inside. Wonder if Andy will be playing that day, it would mean that he didn't play on opening day. Hmmm so much to think about. I will have to write a list of pros & cons!!!! I will be in a better position timewise and financially next year but of course may not be lucky enough to get any tickets then!!!

I think in comparison to ticket master tickets they don't check id. So you could buy it and keep it and if you want pass it on to a friend or family at a later date or once you know what day Andy is playing...

What tickets are you hoping for this year? Whats the best Wimbledon tic you have had in the past?
The best I have had is mens semis 2 years ago and the tickets were 6 rows from the front. My friend has also got mens semis, the year before me and she got mens final several years ago.
Neither of us got anything last year so don't mind what tickets, it would just be great to get something .... although not keen on the womens last few rounds tbh.

The best i have had was men's quarters on Centre last year which my sister got, so we got to see Federer and then Andy beating Ferrer which was amazing!!! i got lucky last year as well centre on day 1. Saw Novak and Sharapova win. Berdych lose and then Heather Watson beat Benesova.
I know its a lot to ask to be lucky again this year but would be fab any ticket......
Each time I've got tickets in the ballot or in the online sale they have been up in the Z's - which is why I'm going to rely on queueing this year, 'cos you can get seats quite near the front that way.
I can't queue overnight so I am relying on ballot or ticketmaster
Turns out that I probably cannot go to Canada for my relative's wedding. The upside is that hopefully I will be able to go to Wimbledon! So keeping everything crossed I get some decent tickets
My dream tickets would be either men's semis or finals (centre court). Or even quarters (assuming Andy would be centre again)

When I called the ticket office today they said some had gone out on Friday but another lot are going out at the end of this week. I thought it was done by surname but one of my friends whose surname begins with a W got some today so not sure how it is done. There may not be any pattern at all although those who got them this week should have their seats nearer the front if they respond immediately.

Hello CzechFan and welcome to the forum!
:welcome:
That must have been a brilliant match to watch.
Have you been to Wimbledon before??
Hello and thanks for welcome.
Unfortunately Andy lost the match in 3rd set but also it was an unforgettable experience! We had tickets in row C behind the court! We also visited another match that day Tsonga-Berdych (Tomas is practicing in the same city where I live and it's also great to see him practice).
Next day we had tickets for another incredible matches Federer-Ferrer and Del Potro-Tipsarevic! Also from lower rows behind the court.
But the best of all was the chance to see players hitting some balls before their match! They have 30 minutes each before doubles matches in O2 and you have chance to see them from 5 meters!!! Sorry for off-topic but I had to share my tennis experience from London :-D
In the same week I also visited Wimbledon for first time. I was expecting a lot but not as much! I took a Guided tour and it was well worth money. Tour takes 1,5 hour and we visited Ground courts, Court n.1, Court n.18, Millenium building (Petra Kvitova has pictures all over the place because she won in 2011, she live also in my city like Berdych), Henman Hill and many more.
But top of everything was a Centre Court! We was sitting in places for journalists for 10 minutes and Guide was speaking about history of Centre court and so on. While I was sitting there I realized that I have to visit Wimbledon during the Championship. So after tour I went to Ticket Office to fill a form! Lady in Office told me that I have 10% chance to get some tickets and wish my good luck :-D So next 14 days I will check my letter box with hope that I am in that 10% :-D In 2011 I was in 90% :-(
I wish a good luck for all of us. If you read this please excuse my english :-D
10%! Wow. Hmmm not expecting anything then. Welcome to the forum czechfan!
After being in Canada last year for Wimbledon I decided to ask for the Wimbledon final off work just in case... Managed to get the day off. Did that for Aussie open and Andy reached the final. Fingers crossed it happens again. And if it does I will try and get on the grounds

I know Caro and that is a wonderful opportunity. I am just going to have to convince my husband of that as his automatic response was 'but you'll want to watch the final and you'd be better off watching it at home." He's very much of the opinion that if you've paid for your seats you have to sit in them! So I imagine if we went he would be pretty determined to sit in his seat on court 1 all day!

Wow! First time I have entered the ballot this year, and have just been told that a letter came through at home saying I have two tickets for court 1 on the first Friday!! Very excited!! I’m a student so when I filled in the form I had to put my home address down rather than my student house address… to be honest I had completely forgotten about the ballot the last month, so it was a great surprise about 30 minutes ago when I came back from a lecture, turned on my laptop and had a rather immediate skype call from my dad! I'm 20, very nearly 21, so haven't had as many Wimbledon’s in my lifetime as many of you on here, in fact I’ve only ever been to Wimbledon once and that was just last October when I went on such a gorgeous sunny day to tour the grounds and generally have a lovely/nostalgic day out! Actually it was this trip that inspired me to finally enter the ballot, I can only imagine how amazing it would be to be there whilst the championships are going on… been enjoying the tennis from my tv the past 6 or 7 years, that was when, of course, I discovered that I was a tennis fanatic! I even remember being cheeky in a school I.T. lesson about 7 years ago when the championships were on and kept putting up the tennis livescores when the teacher wasn't looking to follow a henman match (haha!!).
I was actually thinking a while ago that I probably wouldn't be successful in the ballot but would love to go anyway, so was possibly thinking to go up the day before a big murray match and start up camp in the queue with some mates! Especially after seeing and reading the Melbourne AO joys of the Andy boys last month, something I would absolutely love to do myself, so jealous of the lads there, but so happy for them too!! This will be my first Wimbledon and it's on a 3rd rounds match day! I probably won't be lucky enough to see Andy as he'll be on centre (if he’s in that side of the draw that is), but still I'm sure there will be some big names on No. 1 to watch then, hopefully! Though saying all that I guess I'm just more excited to finally be at Wimbledon when the championships are going on and see (for the first time in my life) some of the players I've been watching, following and reading about for year in person, whether that be on a show court, ground pass court, practice court, or just walking about the grounds. Absolutely can't wait, just have the problem of deciding which one of my friends or family to take with me now!

Excellent Elenive :cheer:
Elenive - It's lovely to hear your excitement about going to Wimbledon for the first time. I remember my first time very clearly. So happy for you that you got tickets. You'll have a fantastic day whoever you see ... and Andy usually plays one of his matches on court 1 so you never know ....
Golden Lady - do what I do, don't go with your hubby, go with a friend. I ditched mine years ago (tennis wise!) in favour of a friend who is more like-minded about tennis. Hubby just thinks I am 'obsessed'!! :rolling::rolling: ..... ok, maybe he does have a point!

I am a little worried. I tried to pay for my tickets today and it won't accept payment from any of my cards. Will try again tomorrow but have to pay by Thursday so time is running out. Yeah me and my mum have a hotel booked for the first 3 days, We are going to try ticket master for the opening day, did that in 2011 and saw Andy Murray so worth a go! If no luck we shall queue. and we will deffo queue on the first Tuesday and Wednesday. Last year had ballot tics for opening day on Centre but queued on the first Tuesday and Wednesday at about 4am and got court 1 both times.
Middle Saturday me and my sister are going to go either queue or Ticketmaster. Last year got court 3 on ticketmaster for the middle Saturday and had a great time!
Ladies quarters i have a debenture seat on Court 1 (praying it doesn't rain) and ladies semi's i have a debenture seat on Centre. Looking forward to that!
Final weekend going with my mum again like last year we have a hotel booked and we get court 1 tickets for both days on the BTM General sale. Last year got a centre return for a tenner on the final Saturday and saw the men's doubles final and ladies doubles final was really good.

Yep Caro, I always do. I Love it so much and i take the whole two weeks off work every year. When it finishes im mightly depressed as well! last year it took me a week to come out of the depression of it being over! I spent the whole of the Monday after fighting back tears. I think its cos im on such a high for 2 weeks then its back down to earth with a bump.
I am going to the US open as well this year for the first week so maybe that will soften the blow when Wimbledon ends this year. Doubt it tho cos there is nothing quite like Wimbledon fortnight. Im like a kid on Christmas eve night before it starts hehe beside myself with excitement.

Women's tennis given a chance is just as good as the men's. Going myself for Women's quarters and Semi's this year on Debenture seats. But been lucky a few times for these on Ticketmaster. They are easier to get than men's tickets and surely better than not going?!?!?
If i was you and get no luck on the days you want go for women's quarters or semi's. Honestly try it and you might like it. Up to you but would hate you to miss out on a day at Wimbledon because you have got in your head women's tennis isn't any good which is so far from the truth. Trust me!!! x

It's horses for courses to be honest and womens tennis is not for me. It's not like I have never watched it before, got womens quarters in the ballot before and went. If I had never been to Wimbledon before I would accept anything but I have many times so would not spend my money on womens quarters or semis. I don't mean to offend anyone by saying that. Actually it is marginally more interesting now that the Brits are doing well. I know a lot of people do like it which is fine but I prefer the mens game.

Ah well, I was lucky for 2 consecutive years, but last year and this year - nothing. :grrr:
That's why I've always booked tickets for the O2 since the ATPfinals have been there. At least you know you are going to see the top 8 - injuries excepted
Somehow my friend from tennis club has received tickets from the ballot for 4 years in a row! No idea how! Wow!
You stand more chance in your tennis club ballot than in the general LTA draw or the public draw. I've entered my tennis club draw the last two years and got tickets both times. I think I won't enter this year as it seems a bit unfair :shamed: and I rather like queueing, anyway.

Hi to everyone. I'm from Italy.
Last week i received the letter declaring successful in 2013 ballot. My tickets are for the 4th of july on court n.1.
Which kind of matches could i see? I read that on court n.1 only boys&girls or veteran matches are currently scheduled. Someone can help me? :)

Hello Albert - and welcome to the forum!
:welcome:
I've just looked up the OOP for the 2nd Thursday from last year 2012.
You'll find it here in the forum. (http://www.andymurrayfanforum.com/forums/showthread.php?1071-WIMBLEDON-2012-INFORMATION-THREAD-(locked)-Tournament-Schedule-Draws-OOP-s&p=79263&viewfull=1#post79263)
That day is usually Ladies Semi-Final day - both matches played on Centre Court.
On Court 1 they played Ladies and Mens Doubles 1/4 Final matches.
On both Centre and Court 1 there were also some Mixed Doubles matches.
There may also be, later, boys or girls singles matches.
If you have Court 1 tickets it's a good opportunity to get into Wimbledon and have guaranteed seating and Court 1 will still have some interesting matches on 4th July (not Mens Singles). You'll have access to everywhere in Wimbledon except Centre Court (and Courts 2 & 3 which are not likely to be in use by then).
If you wanted to watch the action on Centre Court you could find a place to sit on Henman Hill from where you can see all the action on the big screen.
You are unlikely to see any Mens Singles 1/4 Final matches UNLESS we have had torrential rain for 2/3 days which has pushed all the matches back. But there's an outside chance of seeing the last 4 Men on the practice courts in the morning.
I hope that helps? If you haven't been to Wimbledon before there are lots of people on this forum who'll be happy to answer any further queries.
If you are thinking of coming all the way from Italy it would be well worth while arriving a day or so sooner and trying to get in on Wednesday 3rd July which is when the 4 Mens 1/4 Final matches are played. To do that you might have to queue for a ground pass (from 7am in the morning!) which would get you in to watch the big screen on Henman Hill (Centre Court matches usually) and you can queue for resales (£10 each, available from approx 2.30pm) to get onto either Centre, Court 1 or Court 2.
I think resales for centre court are £10 but for the other show courts are less :)
I honestly can't remember what I've paid for resales before. But they are incredibly cheap.

Hello all! I've been following this thread for a few weeks but have finally got round to registering so I can join in! Really pleased for everyone who's got tickets so far, and fingers crossed in the next rounds of the ballot for those who haven't. The ballot has been really good to me so far - I applied last year for the first time, and got Court 1 on the first Thursday (so saw James Ward's 5-setter against Mardy Fish) - and I've got Centre Court for the second Monday this time around! The general view seems to be that it's a pretty damn good day to be there, so I'm rather excited already!
BTW - I seem to recall that I didn't get my ballot letter until April last year, so I'm sure some of you will still have some pleasant surprises in store!

Looks like you've got some brilliant tickets. The second Monday is always a good day to go as you have both Ladies and Men's 4th round matches, so some of them have to be on the outside courts.

Thanks for your welcome and your answer. :)
Are u sure on court n.1 the 4th of july are going to be played all doubles semifinals?! In the letter received by AELTC on the 4th of july the doubles semi-finals are scheduled on center court and on cout n.1.
I hope to see any mens or women QF or SF, but are scheduled in different days and courts. :(
I've never been to Wimbledon, and it'd be my first time. I've been two times to London Atp Finals in the past years and it was incredible! :)
Thanks for your suggestion to come the day before searching for tickets to go on centre court or n.1&2.
I'm wondering if buying the tickets as the 7th of march is the last day to confirm the payment.

Hello Albert.
This is the official schedule from the Wimbledon website so you can see they plan to play Mens Doubles Semi's and Ladies Singles Semi's that day on the show courts (Centre and Court 1).
Second Thursday 4th July
Juniors from 11am on outside courts, all other main draw matches from 11.30am,
1pm on Centre and No.1 Courts.
Ladies' Singles semi-finals
Gentlemen's Doubles semi-finals
Mixed Doubles third round
Boys' and Girls' Singles quarter-finals
Boys' and Girls' Doubles third round
Invitation Doubles
BUT last year the weather was awful so a lot of doubles matches had been delayed so they played Ladies Doubles also on the Thursday.
I hope to see any mens or women QF or SF, but are scheduled in different days and courts. :(
The only PLANNED SF matches are the Ladies ones on Thursday 4th July
I've never been to Wimbledon, and it'd be my first time. I've been two times to London Atp Finals in the past years and it was incredible! :)
Wimbledon is also incredible. It is a similar layout to Roland Garros (have you been?) but perhaps a bit more spacious and especially more green because of all the grass!
Thanks for your suggestion to come the day before searching for tickets to go on centre court or n.1&2.
It is sensible to come for more than one day if you can but unless you were able to buy tickets online the night before you would have to QUEUE for those showcourt tickets and possibly for 2 nights!!!
BUT you can buy a ground pass on the day if you queue from 7am so that will get you into the grounds and then if you want to try for showcourts you have to queue again at the Resale Kiosk at the top of Henman Hill. You might have to queue from 11am until 3pm to get a seat ...
I'm wondering if buying the tickets as the 7th of march is the last day to confirm the payment.
Alberto
Well you have 2 days to decide so I hope you make the right decision for yourself.
:welcome: to the forum Albert. I hope you manage to make the right decision.
At least Court 1 tickets will get you into the grounds. If the only matches you wish to see are on Centre you can always watch the big screen on Henman Hill - plenty of atmosphere - and maybe queue for resale tickets for Centre later on.
As Sally says, the day before (Wednesday) would be a great one to queue for tickets for.

I was planning to come to London for vacation only on wednesday but only in the late morning and it's too late for wimbledon.

At the moment i think i'll buy the tickets, but tomorrow could change my mind. I'm not sure even because who is going to come with me to london doesn't like tennis....so i'll have an extra ticket...:(

My disappointment at not receiving Wimby ballot tickets has been offset because
I'VE JUST GOT TICKETS FOR QUEENS FINALS DAY ON CENTRE COURT
They are doing a fun doubles to raise money for the Royal Marsden where Ross is being treated prompted by Andy and Tim Henman
So......I hope to see Andy in the final, but if not in the doubles so I am So So Excited

Good luck with your decision Alberto - and don't worry about your English! It's very good and probably a lot better than my French!
I think me and Gill are going to camp overnight for tickets on 2nd Monday. I know it's a popular day but because of work, and hubby needing to take time off too to be around for the dogs, we have to decide way in advance. 2nd Monday is the first day we know that Andy will definately be playing (assuming he is still in the tournament ....), otherwise it would be sods law we would choose the wrong day to go and him not be there at all!!
At least this way, even if we miss out on centre court, there will be good matches and we can watch Andy from the hill. We will aim to get there early Sunday morning. If Fed, Rafa, Nole and Andy are all still in, 2 of them will have to play on court one. They all have lots of fans .... so you never know.
Alberto, Welcome to the forum. I'm in a similar position to you but decided to get the tickets as don't know if I will ever be offered tickets in the future and I have also always dreamed of going to Wimbledon. I believe you can always return them to Wimbledon if you decide not to go but maybe someone on here can confirm that. I am so excited now that i have decided that I am going and have everything booked.

Last year was my first Wimbledon and I loved it, so I was over the moon when my ticket offer came through for this year too. I still quite like the idea of doing the queue at some stage, but probably not this year as I live at the wrong end of the country and can't get any more time off work... :-(

I also had problems. I live in the US as well. I had to call them, they were very helpful and changed the address etc. Still didn't work but could see that I had tried to pay. They said as long as they knew I wanted the tickets we could work out a way for payment. Eventually I called my credit card company again, they did something and when i tried it again it worked. Definitely, call them so they know you still want the tickets and you can work something out. Good Luck

I'm new here too! Been watching tennis since the 70s, started going to Wimbledon in 1984 and have been almost every year since. Went to the final in 1987 (when it was standing!) and 2003. Also been to the US Open a few times.
Slept out in the overnight queue loads of times - it wasn't as organised as it is now though. Not been lucky in the ballot for years - think the last time I got tickets was in 2008. I've managed to get tickets twice through the Ticketmaster sale, but even that seems near impossible now. So am I right in thinking the ballot has 3 waves of letters out now?
Looking forward to chatting to everyone :)
You could always come over anyway and join the queue to get in on a day of your choice.

Didn't second ballot go out end of last week????
I don't think that the second ballot went out the last week-end: in 2012 it was out around 20th March.
Indeed last year I received the offer (a lucky quarter final centre court) around that date and one user phoned to ticket office to know when went out the ballot.

I think the 2nd ballot will be out next week. They must give a week extra for all the people who had problems paying. I believe about a fifth of tickets don't get taken up when the 1st ballot goes out. I also see no-one seems to have received tickets through the LTA ballot.

Just been contacted by one of my friends Centre Court seats on Thursday, 28th June, do hope Andy's playing on that day!
Same here in Milan, Italy.
I received the wimbledon letter today for the second year in row at second round: this year I dreamt for a 1 second because I read Fri 5 July but when I go to the end I discovered it was for the court 1 (double semifinals).
No problem for me, last year I went for the first time at Wimby and I attended the quarter finals in centre court and this year I projected to go to the grounds of first week: moreover I really lucky because I have a friend of my town who live in London and he really happy to host me.

I've just joined the forum as I was searching online for Andy fans that are going to Wimbledon...read many of your posts, and just wanted to say I was fortunate enough to get tickets this year via BTA ballot for first Friday on Court 1. So pumped. One thing wasn't quite clear: since I won on first opportunity, does that mean I'll now be ineligible to be awarded more tickets in either of the next 2-3 months ballots? I sure want to get on Center court at least one day just in case rains wash out my scheduled day.

Hello Prizzo, welcome aboard!
I've only ever got tickets via the LTA ballot. Others might be able to answer you but I guess it's possible that if you are in more than one ballot i.e. LTA, BTA and tennis clubs that you could get offered further tickets.
A good alternative, especially if you are travelling to London and staying in a hotel on Thursday or Friday night, is to queue for a ground pass on either Thursday (easier) or Saturday (likely to be busy). That will get you into the grounds to watch anything except show court matches and you can sit on Henman Hill to watch the Centre Court action. You can also queue for returns tickets at the very top of Henman Hill (£10 each from approx 2.30pm onwards).
Nearer the time we usually do a list of which forum members/tennis friends are going on which days so that people can exchange PM's if they want to meet up.
Hope you'll join in a bit more now you made the jump and joined up!!!

I m going to the final day, i just want to see the game at the big screnn in front central court. Do they sell ground admission for final day ? What time may i have to arrive ath the queue ? Is possible to buy in advance the groun ticket ?

Hi Prizzo, as per my post of Monday, my friend got Centre Court first Thursday. The second, third ballot etc are only what doesn't get taken up from the first ballot. They are not other tickets being put on sale. However, people do find nearer the tournament they cannot go and one of my friends got middle Saturday just before the tournament a few years ago so it is never too late!
