Unfortunate that Monfils is out of #Wimbledon--he's been playing some great ball in #Halle. Would've been a very dangerous floater. #atp

Such a pity Gael won't be at Wimbledon, of a course had a big win over Raonic.
Oh no!! LeMonf out of Wimby?!! Gutted!! I love to watch him play .... but wouldn't have wanted him to draw Andy is the first round!

Aww pity, although no worries: Tsonga will surely fly the French flag high in his campaign - he looked in good shape yesterday, although 6 sets in darn tough on him, hope he is okay for his match after Andy's

No... I think he was definitely going to be the most dangerous floater for the first round. Who is it now?
Is Nalbandian playing or is he injured? Or somebody like Lopez?

Well the general consensus on that from the commies and the TV studio at Queens is that Hewitt is the man no one wants in the first round at Wimby.

Nalbandian is recovering from an operation on his right shoulder. It has sidelined him for most of 2013. He incurred the injury while winning a decisive doubles for Argentina in their DC quarterfinal tie against France.

Andy will either be very lucky or very unlucky.Seeing as a certain Spaniard has been in Andys half for the past what 3 years I think it only fair that it changes. Either way its a GS and never easy to win.

Yes I really don't want to see Rafa in Andy's half too, that would be incredibly unlucky. Would much prefer to see Rafa as Nole's problem and possibly have an Andy vs Rafa final. Although any of the top 3 against Andy in the final is what we want really!

Top ten seeds for wimbledon no surprises.
GENTLEMEN'S SINGLES
1 DJOKOVIC, Novak (SRB) [1]
2 MURRAY, Andy (GBR) [2]
3 FEDERER, Roger (SUI) [3]
4 FERRER, David (ESP) [4]
5 NADAL, Rafael (ESP) [5
6 TSONGA, Jo-Wilfried (FRA) [6]
7 BERDYCH, Tomas (CZE) [7]
8 DEL POTRO, Juan Martin (ARG) [8]
9 GASQUET, Richard (FRA) [9]
10 CILIC, MARIN (CRO) [10]
I'll just keep fingers crossed that Andy is due to meet Delpo or Tsonga in the quarters if Andy gets that far.

To be fair, none of the top 8 are mugs. All have been to GS finals
It's such a shame that Wimby don't have more say in the seedings any more. It seems madness for Ferrer to be seeded above Rafa who has won the title twice!!

Andy is better anyway against the tough opponents, once he is focused.

Oh yes please!
It's all Federer's fault that Nadal isn't #4 anyway, he should have got into the RG Final to stop Daveed getting there, but no he lost to Tsonga :p

He'd have been ranked above Ferrer had he not lost in R2 last year though - his grass performances in both Halle and Wimbledon last year weren't good enough. He also had the chance to keep his ranking in the top 4 by playing Miami and/or Halle - he chose not to. Wimbledon have definitely made the right decision imo. They've never made exceptions for other players who missed sections of the season (and who often had much more of a ranking drop than Rafa has - e.g. Del Potro) - it wouldn't be fair for Rafa to be a special case here.

I'd have thought Berdy would be riskier as Berdy has beaten him quite a few times.
I'd have thought Berdy would be riskier as Berdy has beaten him quite a few times.
Oh okay, well I was basing it on his form on the grass at Queens, in this respect Tsonga and Potty look in a stronger way than Berdy really.

Whilst Berdy has reached a Wimbledon final on grass I think on this surface I'd take that over tTsonga or Del Potro but still obviously wouldn't be straightforward. Know Andy said he'd be up for a quarter final with Nadal but would rather they did not play at that stage.
The trouble is that when Andy & Rafa play each other they half kill each other leaving the winner in no fit state to play their next match - so I really hope they don't meet before the final. *fingerscrossed*

Or how about this scenario: Fed and Rafa meet in the quarters with Rafa giving Federer further thoughts of retirement :p, Rafa and Nole then meet in semies with the winner of that playing Andy in the final (Andy of course having a nice breeze with Ferrer or Ferrer's conquer in the semies)
aka the dream draw

Yeah I agree, Andy must prove himself against Rafa on a big stage final which he hasn't had the chance to do yet, seeing as he's never beaten Rafa at Wimbledon before, this would be a great time to do it!

BTW List of top 32 seeds at http://www.atpworldtour.com/News/Tennis/2013/06/25/Wimbledon-Seeds-Announced-Nadal.aspx
On one level yes all the top 16 players are not easy, but of course Andy matches up so well against some (Simon as a classic example though just dropped out of top 16) and not so well with others (always think Berdych has a point to prove when he plays Andy, though on grass I fee more confident).
The draw this year is really critical as you want to get to each stage saving as much energy as possible. I think there are three (even four if you separate SF and F) stages.
1. First week to go through the first three rounds, ideally with minimal energy loss but one or two sets that are close and get you warmed up. Ideally avoiding dangerous floaters, power servers, bad match ups.
2. Round of 16 and QF. Absolutely avoid Rafa at all cost. First thing I will be looking for in the draw. As others have said, even if Andy gets past him, the energy drain kills you. I would ideally like Almagro (on grass) in one round and somebody who is a surprise package . somebody like Simon for example - and while he might test Andy, want him arriving in the semis as fresh as possible.
3. SF - I think I would ideally like Federer. If he has had a tricky QF I am not sure he is able to bounce back so quickly after a tough match. I also would love Andy to take him out in the Semi. If it were a final, there are one or two buttons Roger can press where he can win a final based on all his experience.
4. In an ideal world, Nole in the final. The worst on grass for a GS final out of Nole, Roger and Rafa. Preferably after a SF against Rafa with hopefully predictable draining results. (I would take somebody like Tsonga though as well!)
If that sounds like loading the dice, so be it. I think Andy can win Wimbledon more than once, but that first time is the hardest and would really not mind some help from the draw.
Please don't underestimate Ferrer - he and Andy knocked the stuffing out of each other last time they met at Wimbly with Andy just edging the win! I was on Murray Mount tearing my hair out because I had to leave to catch my bus before the end!

I just don't care about who Andy meets in QF/SF/F, as long as he beats them all. He can if he thinks about the Olympics during any wobbles or wee walkies like he does so often and that body language of his when things are not going so well. I'm quietly confident. 5 setters favour the Fittess in the business.

Gotta be Rafa, surely?
Aaaaah. Rafa in Andy's half as well as Federer. At least Berdy did not end up in that half too and at least Rafa is in Fed's quarter.
It's an OK draw, yes possible Rafa semies if it gets there. Actually I disagree with Berdy being the other one to avoid, I actually think Tsonga is the next strongest on grass and look he's in the bottom half of the draw too - tough bottom half of the draw... the mon, wed and fri of the first week are going to see some very good players and top matches! (Brill for me because I'm on court 1 on the first Friday, possible Rafa, Tsonga, Andy and Federer watching!

The head to head stat with Andy-Berdych means completely nothing here Cazza... Berdych's wins are only on clay except from in 2006 when it was on hard but that was years ago, Andy's game has changed. Tsonga is the better man on grass than Berdych, that is fact.

Yes Berdych was a Wimbledon finalist, however he isn't very consistent on grass as Tsonga is. Tsonga has reached the semies in the last couple of years and the quarters before that, we all know his game style suits grass very well and judging from Queens this year he was in better form on grass than Berdych, that is also FACT.

I would personally agree with you that Tsonga is the better grass court player. But you are stating as a fact when it is clearly not. It's very subjective. The two have never played on grass, but Berdych has the better head to head and has been to wimbledon final. Tsonga has a higher win % at wimbledon but Berdych has more wins. Berdych has 1title on grass and has reached 4 finals. Tsonga has 0 titles and reached 1 final (last week).
It is actually a very interesting debate, but it certainly isn't fact that Tsonga is better than Berdych on grass.
I don't think Andy will be too unhappy with the draw. There are some dangerous lurkers out there that Andy seems to have avoided and - to state the obvious - he has to beat the best to win. Good luck Andy!

the draw is not actually bad at all! Pretty straightforward til the quarters for Andy. Robredo and Tipsy won't really threaten him over 5 sets. Tough QF if cilic/tsonga get through but better than Rafa! Fed's fitness and consistency is dwindling so hopefully a nice 5 setter there although I think Rafa might win in 4. Gonna be tough 2nd week but that's what you expect
also imagine if andy had got nole's draw the pressure from press etc would've been mental!
Go for it, Andy! Good Luck. x

Whilst relieved it' Fed that's got Rafa in quarters would've preferred Andy to be in the other half, very rarely does he appear to be in Nole or Fed half in a slam. However you've got to deal with what's thrown at you and hopefully Andy can rise to the challenge! of course you can't discount Tsong either as he could have 2 tough matches in a row.

Yeah, not the best draw for Andy - but couldn't been worse. Nole is massively lucky!!
Although in a way I'm happy because I've got Court 1 tickets for the first Friday, meaning I'm bound to see one or two of the following provided they make it into the third round: Andy, Rafa, Fed and Tsonga!!! :yahoo:

Well we have the draw, now we know Andy can beat all on grass except Rafa and that was before all the confidence Andy has earned in the past year so bring it on.....even the semis!
Nole must have written to Mr Wimbledon instead of PseudoFed this time!
But, I think Andy will actually be quite happy with the draw. If he gets to the Final then no one can say he had it easy, and (please God) if he wins then he can be even happier because of the draw. I think Fed/Rafa is the dream QF :) Pity that Andy potentially has James Ward in R2 but otherwise I think I'm pretty happy with the way its turned out. Let's hope I'm still thinking that come 7 July :cauldron:

I think that is a B/B+ draw for Andy. Of course being in Nole's position would be even better but it ticks nearly all the boxes.
I am sure Roger would love to swap with Andy, and if Roger and Rafa get to the QF reasonably unscathed, they really could take a lot out of each other in the QF and something tells me Andy's draw is going to open out even more.
And as I said last night, much rather have Nole in the final rather than Roger because Roger can run away with sets on grass in no time if he finds his vintage serving. Finally, Andy playing the potential winner of Roger/Rafa in SF is very different from playing one of them without a match like that!
I would definitely have taken this if you had offered me it last night! :)

Very much like your thinking there! Although a potential Andy vs Nole final is not what I wanted, least Andy will play a potentially very tired semifinalist!
You got to beat the Best to win and the win will be so much valued whoever wins it in the Bottom Half. Granted the Joker has a free ride but without much fight he might find himself at a disadvantage if he reaches the Finals. For me it will be fabulous to watch all the matches in the bottom half as they are the Cream of the Draw. I can give the Top half a miss until the the second week.
COMMON ANDY.!!!!!!!
From what I've read the general consensus on the match to watch out for in the first round is Baghdatis v Cilic, although surely it is Hewitt vs Stan too?
I'm just about to do my the Pick'em and looking down the draw, I'm undecided whether to pick Hewitt or Stan for that one! Judging on the fact that there is usually one shock top seed out early, this might be it? Berdych had the unlucky time for the French, maybe it's Stan's turn to be knocked out early?

But an actual debenture as opposed to a debenture ticket which is almost certainly what TheMass is referring too, is an investment and you'd expect a return on it like shares or buying a house. It's actually a form of loan to Wimbledon.
Yes indeed, and when I see what debenture holders can ask for their tickets, I wonder whether this might not have been a better investment than moving to a bigger house.

The half of the draw which has last year's champion plays first. Seeing as Fed and Andy are on the same half, yes they're both playing tomorrow. Not sure where they'll put Andy though. Fed will definitely play on center as last year's champion but then they have to decide whether to put Rafa or Andy on court 1.
Really hoping they don't put Andy on court 1 just yet, I have court 1 tickets for Friday - they usually only put Andy on court 1 once during the championships!!
Also, I don't think this has been mentioned yet but has anyone seen the potential clash between Fed and Rosol (the guy who beat Nadal last year), that should be an interesting one if Rosol is as inspired as he was last year, just something else for Fed to think about :p
Edit: OOP is up now, Rafa is on court 1.

I think the 10 live streams are only for those "connected" and with smart TVs and on-line. There are 3 channels on freeview on the red button. As far as I know there are not several channels on Sky.
Yes thats what I meant to put sorry!
Thing is, although Rosol played out of his skin, poor Rafa's knees must have contributed to that defeat so I don't think we're going to see the same from Rosol again this year unfortunately (as regards the Fed match).
True, although we can still hope!

I agree, can't see Rosol doing it again.
Same  would love Federer to be kicked out early though.
I can't really see Fed being knocked out before the quarters, though it would be dead funny if he were beaten by someone like Fognini.

I think Roger getting knocked out in the first week would signal terminal decline - how many successive QFs in slams? 36?
He may be waning but not to that extent. Unless he were to completely lose his serving ability or something.

Yes, good point that. I'd forgotten - as have most of the media by the looks of things.

Yes definitely, I'm hoping for the same! Although I expect if that matchup does happen then Federer will beat him, yet it still must be a bit of a worry to Federer if they do meet, knowing he knocked out Rafa last year of course. So far Rosol and Reister are on serve in the fifth, although my attention will probably fade on that match now as Rafa will be on court shortly!

I went for Reister in the pickem on the basis that lightning doesn't strike twice in the same place...

Rafa bouncing about as per usual :p
Edit: Reister has just broken Rosol, looks like Rosol might be on his way out, good call on the Pick'em Jaysee!
Edit2: Rosol has been knocked out!
Wow, Nadal has just lost the first set against Darcis... tense tiebreak too :sofa:
Ooohhh. Hang on to your hats with the Nadal match. Darcis played well, but has that first set taken it out of him already? Maybe Nadal just easing himself in....

Shock but Darcis played so well. Wins 1st set 7-6 against Rafa. Sue already talking about potential upset. We all know she's a Fed worshipper.

Nadal match into a 2nd set tiebreak 2-0 Darcis
alot of the crowd seems to be cheering for Darcis ( prob all Fed fans )
Toni looks very stressed LOL
wow 2 sets to 0 for Darcis and 2-0 in the third Darcis
This is very scary for Rafa and Rafa fans... I'm loving Darcis as the underdog doing well but I can't stop thinking that we'll miss out on a legendary QF with Fed if Rafa goes out... but then again it might help Andy later on... :sofa:

Darcis seems to have confidence and now 4-2 up, though of course Nadal capable of finding another gear though my attention has really been on Andy's match. Raga going out would be a loss for the tournament though of course it could help Murray. Have to admitt Fed looked pretty gooid earlier though not tested.
Fed must be loving this...
I really feel for Rafa right now, he must be thinking 'not again??'
:sofa:
Nooooooooooooooo Rafa is out. Its the first time in Rafa's career he has lost in a grand slam in the first round. But credit to Darcis as he played brilliantly.
Ouch and Rafa goes out in the 1st round. Crikey, I did not expect that at all!
Hats off to Darcis, handled the occasion ridiculously well.

Poor Rafa!!! Shocker.
I have to admit I left Andy's match to watch this and I recommend that you watch a replay of the last set. Darcis played out of his skin, there were some absolutely ridiculous shots, Rafa was giving it everything and it wasn't enough. Wow, did not expect that.
A shame for Rafa , and the Tournament really :(
But Darcis was amazing and deserved that win

I suppose it's good for Andy in the longterm but unfortunately it's also good for Federer.
was thinking that exact thing Fiona , bit of luck for Feddy there , he must be smiling knowing he wont have to face Rafa

Wow, what a match from Darcis! I actually flicked over from Andy's match to watch the last game and a half of this....
Darcis was playing brilliantly when I watched the early stages - I assumed he wouldn't be able to keep it up, but he really did. He kept his nerve incredibly well to serve it out. Clearly Rafa had an injury - hopefully not too serious - I'm sad to see him go out of the tournament, but can't help being delighted for Darcis - that's got to be the match of his life - well done

Huge upset, really did not think Rafa would lose early at Wimbledon in two successive years, seems a superb performance from Darcis so all credit to him. Wonder if Nadal was a bit tired though, I mean he has played a lot of matches and hadn't played any competitive grass court matches beforehand.

kudos to Steve , played out of his skin, seems like a nice guy
Really thought he looked tired from the off and thought rafa had it in the bag, how wrong can you be.
Hope Rafa s ok though
Very strange??
Nadal should of pulled out of Wimbledon, if his knee was this bad?
How long will Nadal be out of action? Another 7 months! feel sorry for him.
Nadal had mentioned in an interview I saw earlier today that the grass is worse for his knees than clay.

Hewitt just held for 5-1 in the first set ...
James Ward in a terrific battle in the 3rd set tie-break. 9-9 is the score on James serve.
The Brit took the first set 7'6 but lost the next 4'6.
Well, Nadal's defeat is of course a huge shock - no doubt about that.
Just watched Andy Murray's post-match interview, and they did focus rather excessively on the Rafa result. Andy did make the very salient point that Darcis beat Berdych at the Olympics last year, and apparently loves playing on grass.
He was therefore a dangerous first round opponent who has the potential to upset any top player not at his best. Seems that Rafa was way below his best, with an injury hampering his game - so an upset became a distinct possibility.
I still think that Nadal should have been seeded in the top 4 - even if this result might indicate otherwise.

Have arrived in devon and following scores on my phone turned on TV in time to see nadal lose and murray win his 2nd and 3rd set.
I really feel for Nadal he looked devastated but said in post match interview he had no injury to blame. He hasn't played on grass for a long time so although very shocking it has happened in past tournaments. Does this mean murray has a better chance?! No cos who knows what this Darcis can do and he still has Fed and Nole to beat.
As for what I saw of Andy he did what he had to do nothing more nothing less. Good solid serving and match. Love wimbledon!
Ward has saved quite a few match points against Lu now! 5-5 in the fourth
C'MON WARD!

Wardy serving to stay in the match at *5-6 in the 4th set. It'll hopefully go to a tie-break.
Ward not really taking his chances - again!
Am sure I can hear Lankster cheering him on over and over!!!
And a tie-break it is for the 4th set.

Brave fight from Wardy but not enough and pity he didn't capitalise on some of the chances but that can often be the case with James.

So sad to see Rafa play like that today. I am not sure about no injury, something was clearly up as he wasn't going for his shots like normal. Such a shame as it seemed all was back to normal after the French Open. I bet he is beginning to dislike Wimbledon now! Wonder if Darcis is another Rosol and out next round?
Not sure what to think about Rafa going out from an Andy perspective. Fed won't now be in for a potentially long 5 set quarter final assuming he gets that far and Andy too.

Really good match between Stan and Hewitt.
Nearly every point being won rather than lost, if you see what I mean.
Hewitt 2 sets and a break up but getting harder and harder to hold....
No, Berdy is in Djoko's half. The next highest seeded player in Fed's quarter is Stan - and it looks like he's about to go out too. It seemed like Fed didn't have a good draw, but it's turning out good for him after all.
Maybe Pseudofed will take back some of the nasty things he said about Mr. Wimbledon.
Yup, Stan out too. Fed's draw is just getting better and better :grrr:
