Believe it is on Red Button 6 but not sure if you need an extra package to receive this. Just had half price offer to get me back to Sky so I will be taking that up if it isn't!
I Googled red button Olympics and there are multiple channels depending on HD or SD and Sky or free view. I printed the Sky info off. The channels are there but weren't all yet active as of yesterday. I'm away for the weekend but from recollection the red button HD channels on Sky are 472 - 479. But just go online to see what's what.
There is a brilliant 72 page Olympic guide in the Radio Times. Well laid out timetable for every day and showing the red button and on-line times.

It IS limited in info.......no specific channel numbers for the red button and of course no match times yet but it IS an excellent starting point.
I am wondering if there will be more BBC red button channels on Sky and Freesat rather than Freeview as there were at the last Olympics.

Is there much buzz about the Olympics in the UK guys ? or do most not pay much attention ?

May not be quite as much interest in comparison to London 2012 and the doping issues may be offputting to some, however think many are still excited for the Rio Olympics.

... but maybe because of London last time around we are more interested than usual in overseas Olympics.
by the way, on another subject : I sense our competitive Andy is not wanting to be outdone by Chris Hoy and Steve Redgrave and their one-handed flag holding! He'll be giving it a real go even though, as he says, they were "stronger". :GBflag:

I am very excited about it, I really wanted to go and see Andy and Mo defend their titles. Got excited when I read airfares have halved and hotels are at bargain prices in a newspaper article and scanned all the eu ticket sales websites but couldn't find many tickets for tennis, though Mo was still available for his finals. I would still be tempted going if I had someone to go with!

I wouldn't miss it just because there was no-one to go with. You will meet pals out there. It would be splendid. I think you meet more travelling alone and I have many tennis friends having met them at tournaments. The Olympics are unique too - I end up watching and cheering everything: shooting, dressage, sailing... you name it! :olympics:

I'm really looking forward to it, although because of the time difference from the UK I imagine it'll be tricky to see much. James is right, though, the doping scandal stuff is tainting it a bit for me - however I think once it all starts, that will drop out of people's minds, and we'll just be thinking about the sport.
Never going to top 2012 form a UK perspective though :big grin:

Love the Olympics, always have. Nothing for me will top our home London games, I was there for the weekend that had supersaturday, had a day in the Olympic park on the third with tickets for swimming that evening, (after watching Kath grainier win gold in a pub with some Aussies)we spent supersaturday on basically an Olympic pub crawl touring the city and heading for pubs when there was an event we wanted to see. The atmosphere during the time we won those three athletics golds was unbelievable. On the Sunday we went to see the marathon then watched Andy win gold in a pub before we flew home. It was one of the most memorable weekends of my life, the buzz in the city was amazing.
So glad I still have some school hols left to watch the games, I love how yo get so hooked that if there's a chance of a GB medal you find yourself yelling at the to over obscure sports like under water basket weaving lol. Seriously, there's so much doom and gloom on the news it would be lovely to celebrate three weeks of sport. Despite all the hoopla, doping, sponsorship etc, the basic Olympic desire for each athlete is still there- to do their very best,. I think that overall the Olympics still has the capacity to unite and inspire. Here's hoping we have a great games.
I would love to have gone to Rio, roytennisfan, but I can't afford it along with the DC ties and next year's World Athletics championships and the Anniversary Games.
I went by myself to Wimbledon, four years ago, to watch the semi finals and Andy win the gold medal. I also went to Hyde Park to watch Mo win the 5,000m. It was an amazing experience and met some nice and friendly people there.

So what time do we think Andy's doing his one armed flag waving & leading out team GB this eve? 1.30am? Later? Can I keep my eyelids open that long through the terribly tedious procession of other countries (sorry rest of the world)? Should I start on the coffee and Diet Coke now?

LOVE the Olympics. Gives me a chance to watch sports I don't usually - diving, synch. swimming, badminton, volleyball, track and field. Looking forward to women's soccer in particular coz Canada has a strong team. Tennis is my priority tho'. Can't wait!!! And I love watching the opening and closing ceremonies. I heard this one cost a tenth of the London one.
I love the Olympics, always have, just the chance to watch all the sports you never normally see as others have said. I only went to the tennis in 2012, really wish I could have gone to the Olympic park but getting tickets was virtually impossible. 2012 was a bad year for us so just watching on TV was a tonic. Cant wait even though I likely won't get to watch as much as I want to live.

The opening ceremony and entertainment will take best part of 2 hours so reckon Andy won't be leading GB out until after 2, probably later.
Must say I was pretty fed up with Clare Balding on BBC tonight, went through all the medal hopefuls without a mention of Andy
Not having heard what Andy said to his fellow GB team members and based purely on the photographs, the Daily Mail have written a typically tacky article with the heading:
Put some welly into it, Andy! A sombre looking Murray is spotted rallying Team GB troops with a 'motivational speech' ahead of Rio Olympics opening ceremony. The Scot tried to rouse the British athletes as they prepare for Rio 2016.

Andy was a beast with the flag and had all angles covered, one-handed on both left and right and two hands for a vigorous wave. I wonder if we might have seen more of him if there had been more Brits marching. It was all very quick as the next team was already in the stadium. Apparently only 77 were there which is only about a quarter of how many were marching in the Spanish, German, French and Italian teams all who have a similar sized contingent as GB. There's footage of the GB team watching the opening ceremony from their holding camp in Belo Horizonte and I bet most would have preferred to be in Rio.
Contrast this image of Andy from the opening ceremony in 2008 with how he looked last night.

Acording to the Radio Times, tennis is covered on the internet from 2.45 pm. On the red button it is covered from 8.20 pm.
They are also covering tennis intermittently on BBC4 from 3.00 pm and 6.00 pm and 11.30 pm - mixed with other sports.
I would guess that they can always change the schedule when there is British interest.

I'm watching on line. That is my general preference anyway [though sometimes when it buffers or my computer plays up, I run into the sitting room and watch on TV if available]. However, my TV stopped working two or three weeks ago so I have no choice at the moment. Anyway, the point is, I've discovered that with the Olympics, a lot of stuff you can watch on line [even if they didn't show it on TV] the next day.
I never have much luck watching things the next day as I always without wanting to end up hearing the score. If I recorded it it was to watch first thing before I leave the house. Which isn't enough time for my unreliable laptop to run all its updates before deciding to work for a bit before overheating
Sky channel 477 will be covering tennis tonight according to the schedule. Not sure which matches. 472 also currently covering tennis (Jo Konta) - might not continue later on though.

Big upset as Djokovic goes out to Del Potro, though had potential to be tricky.
Delpo's back and Djokovic is out. Djoko gracious in defeat as ever. That's the first seeds out in the Mens Singles, Men's Doubles and Women's Doubles. Djoko's gutted - he leaves the court in tears.
Poor Novak is distraught, he's still in the doubles.
What a crazy game tennis is....would never of believed that result.....Novak gutted....Well Done Delpo making up for the years you missed!
Oh wow Delpo! What a man! I'm so glad he is back at this level. And do you know what...I really felt for Nole. He was devastated and he was so gracious at the net. Good to see. Actually have a lump in my throat for both of them. What a nights tennis! Kyle, Heather and Jo tomorrow! Night all!! :sleepy:

Novak had not lost in first round since Jan 2009 anywhere.
Mind you it's not often you play a former US Open champion in the first round.
I do genuinely feel sorry for Djoko. I know he can be an arrogant so and so (but never as much as someone else I could mention) and I truly think there is something wrong right now and that saddens me.He is always gracious in defeat and looked completely devastated as he left the court. All credit to Del Potro, I really didn't expect that.

Delpo may have played awesome match but still think bit early to say he's fully back-did beat Wawrinka at Wimbledon mind you but then went out next round. Mixed feelings as would like Andy to beat Djokovic in major soon! This win more meaningful but still emotions to deal with, easier being best of 3 until final though.

Wow, well done Del Po. So happy you have been rewarded for all of your perseverance during your wrist problems. Knew he had a chance by how he has been playing, but didn't dare to hope.
Kudos to Djoko he is a good loser and was obviously gutted but he is human after all.
Apparently Delpo will have to play US Open qualifying unless he receives a wild card from the USTA who are usually loathed to hand them out to other than their own.

Staggered by that result, even though Del Potro was my preferred winner. The same as with Federer, I am just pleased that it means Mr M will always have something that Djokovic doesn't. Mr M has trudged off the court as second fiddle to Djokovic far too often.

Not sure Del Po has the stamina yet for a long run. I think Djokovic wanted it too much, which probably effected him like when he lost to Warwrinka in his first FO final. Not too worried about DC yet.

Think his stamina is improving match by match, and it's not like his injuries would have affected his basic fitness. He is a real danger, not just in the Olympic, but for the Davis Cup. His game is HUGE. Novak just looked passive but it's hard to inflict any damage when JM plays that big,

Whilst I'm not one of Novak's greatest fans, his reaction to defeat at the Olympics has done more for the sport and its continuing profile at the Games than anything else could. I love golf, but it's hard to imagine Rory McIlroy (were he even there) walking off the 18th green in tears having missed the cut. It's a shame there are no Ranking Points either, the governing bodies really should appreciate what this means to the players.
Anyway, the route to gold for Andy just got a whole lot easier.
Looking at the H2H and considering some of the matches Djokovic has lost to Del Potro and Murray, is it that Djokovic folds when he is playing for his country and when the crowd is totally against him. He lost to both Murray and Del Po in London 2012, Murray in the Wimbledon Final 2013 - all cases where the crowd was truly against him and/or he was representing his country. He also lost to Delpo in Davis Cup. Yesterday I imagine the crowd would have been rooting for a fellow South American. Some players thrive on the pressure of playing for their country, others less so? I don't know, I am just curious.

He just wanted it too much, mind you what I caught of the match Delpo was playing pretty well. Wished I had stayed to watch but was drained after the 16-14 tiebreak, so went with score at 4-5. Massive boost for Andy after the defeat. Makes the Davis Cup tie look very tasty and fairly balanced so the vociferous Emirates crowd support could prove vital

I really hope Mr M manages all three, but for me personally if I could only have one top victory this year another Grand Slam would have been my choice. Equally him having the experience of being his countries flag bearer was worth any risk to his tennis. I want him to win again, but if he doesn't I could live with Del Po getting it. Del Po has had such a xxxx time with injury. My second choice excluding young Kyle, though is Tsonga.

Ah the gold medal would be my choice. He would become the first ever male player to win 2 golds in singles; incredible. But there's something else. Andy has described being flag bearer as the proudest moment of his entire career. That is a really huge statement which stems from the massive respect he has for fellow athletes. There is no way that Andy would want to be given the honour of leading out the best of the best, give them his motivational speech, then come away without the gold. I think Andy would have beaten Nole had they met in the final, which is what I wanted, now Nole's gone I'm not to too concerned about who Andy faces in the rest of the event. I wouldn't like to be the player who has to try and stop Andy getting his second gold.
(But what it's worth, I don't think he'll have to choose between the gold and the uso :))
I've just crawled out of my pit as I stayed up to watch the Nole/Delpo match last night. I've not been a Nole fan since he played wolf against Andy in the Aussie Open final a few years back, but I have to take my hat off to him for the way he handled his loss last night. He seemed very gracious to Delpo, and I didn't realise until later when he burst into tears how gutted he was.
Delpo played well, but Nole wasn't on his A game. He made alot more UEs than I've seen him do in the past. Maybe something is up with him, maybe he just wanted it too much like Serena did in the USO last year? So although I think Delpo is dangerous, I don't think that he is YET to Andy, especially over five sets at the end of a tournament. I relish a Rafa/Delpo semi too assuming of course that Rafa isn't still injured.
I think Andy has a great chance of getting another gold. I'm already so proud of him this year with Wimby, flag bearing and the way he supported our guys in Serbia. This and the USO title please Andy.

@ Rosie Bear - I see where you are coming from, but in this instance I disagree. I think losing the GS finals was starting to get to him, and now he is back ahead of Warwrinka in number of slams. However I agree about not wanting to come away without a medal from Rio. He will want to add to Team GB's total.
All we and he can ask is he does his best and the dice roll in his favour:-)

Rafa looked really good against Delbonis, got better as the match progressed, Delbonis was no pushover with big leftie serve and forehand and may well be no1 against us in Glasgow with Delpo2 playing Andy on Friday, I am taking it they have to go on actual rankings not PR

I felt a bit sorry for Djokovic at the end - he was so gutted at losing - and Delpo was a difficult first round match for anyone. However, I do think there is something wrong maybe physically. I have thought in recent matches he sometimes looks off-balance which is unusual for him.
I think Djokovic's relatively poor (lacking in energy) performance made Del Potro's play look better than it actually was, no way would he have beaten the No 1 playing as we've come to expect. I do feel there is something either physical or mental affecting his game at the moment. Nothing physically obvious so you could be right tm15 about the hyperbaric chamber being discarded; I hope there's nothing amiss on the home front as I don't dislike him in spite of his antics.

That's fine; it's your opinion. I also did not want Federer to win the gold and I did not want Djokovic to win it either BECAUSE I want Andy or Rafa to. And I was cheering very loudly for Potty to beat him. But I still think Djokovic deserves it because he is #1 and has achieved so much else and works extremely hard and whether we like it or not he IS the best player right now and has been for ages. I feel very sorry for him tbh and this is coming from someone who's not a fan of his at all.
I just couldn't pull an all-nighter - only managed first set of Andy/Jamie - and really sorry to have missed what sounds like an amazing match between DelPo and Novak. I too was rooting for DelPo, partly to stop Novak in his tracks again and partly because of all the injury issues JMDP has had, its so great to have him back. But I was a little bit surprised this morning to see he had won, I did expect to waken up to "cracker of a match, very close, but Novak edges it in 3rd set TB". I don't dislike Novak, its his antics that rile me. But from what I've seen this morning, he was genuinely heartbroken to lose that match and the tears do look genuine - so he is human, not a robot, and that's kind of reassuring. I do think it means a huge amount to the players who have turned up to represent their country - apart from Davis Cup, in tennis its the only chance they get. Maybe Novak still has physical issues, maybe its off court - its not nice to see someone so distraught, whatever the reason. But it did make me like him just a tiny bit more and I felt ever so slightly sorry for him. But not too much :)
As I djoko fan and a Delpo fan I wasn't sure how I wanted this match to go. I was sure I wanted a Murray djoko gold final so until the walked on court I was for djoko. But the second I saw the joy on delpos face at being on the big stages again I changed. Then I was for Delpo. As he played better I felt more like he could go deep in the Olympics so was more behind him. However as djoko's errors started to mount up I switched back hoping he could find a better level. I was hoping for a 3 setter. When it was over and I saw his tears I was truly gutted for him. Had it been the other way id probably be gutted for Delpo. From Delpo it was a great match. From djoko I'm sure he'll be disappointed with his errors and feel in some places they may have cost him the match. But great to see Delpo back to winning ways
I do feel that there seems to be an unease with djoko that has been there since Monte Carlo. Some weeks he is able to play through it like at the French or Toronto without reaching his best much in the tournament. But other times like here and Wimbledon. Like him or loathe him he is great for the sport and his tears almost had me in tears. I hope he finds his way again
I am just gutted I missed this DelPo v Djoko match! I hadn't realised you could record the red button channels on sky .... but then again there will be more live sport this evening when I get home so I probably wouldn't have got around to watching it and it's hopeless trying to avoid results.
I love DelPo so am absolutely pumped for him after all he has been through. I've never been a Djoko fan but he was wonderful at the net with DelPo - whatever he said to him made him cry! .... And me and that was only watching the highlights! And then to see Djoko so emotional, I really felt for him. And what a message to all those who say the olympics are not important to tennis players! Those who choose to not be there take note ...

I And what a message to all those who say the olympics are not important to tennis players! Those who choose to not be there take note ...
My thoughts exactly. It is clear both Djokovic and Federer, who have won so much else, are in despair at not having their Olympic singles gold. This paired with the pride shown by Andy and Rafa and wozniacki as flag bearers shows just how much the Olympics means and why it should be included.
When Olympics was a true amateur aspiration I can see why it wasn't included but come on, Usain bolt is no unpaid amateur. Now the Olympics is a celebration of all global sports- and as such tennis should be part of it.
As for the drop outs- Berdych I can kind of sympathise with, I'm guessing he and his wife are maybe looking to start a family so appreciate their concerns re zika. Raonic it just seems part of 'I'm CEO of team Raonic' and he preferred to try and get points and prize money at the masters. Loved Andys interview before the games when asked about dropping his 1000 points as defending Canada champion. He said, so I lost a few ranking points, so what, being best prepared for the Olympics is more important. It's the same attitude rpthat other sports have- yes you can win things all through the year but Olympics is only every 4 years. Well done to the players who are there, they clearly believe in the value of the Olympics. I hope those who chose to play in Atlanta noticed!

Nole's reaction to defeat has raised my estimation of him more than anything else ever could. I see him in a whole new light and respect him much more; his reaction was very much in the Olympic spirit. To see those 2 men embracing at the net, and how both of them reacted afterwards, was emotional and humbling, and as you say, must do a lot for tennis.
I strongly suspect Nole's tears were about more than just the tennis and I don't feel sorry for him at all but then I'm hard :big grin:
