I've been perusing options - which include sleeper trains to Glasgow Friday night and fly back Sunday evening! Not that we know where it is yet, but plenty of options so far for me

Thank goodness for booking.com - full cancellation until the day before so silverdee and I are booked into various cities in UK just in case :GBflag:
So far I have hotel booked in Birmingham (PI Brindley place) and trains are looking reasonable. Thankfully Glasgow is doable from home. Hoping for a Glasgow especially if they can get the Hydro. Think they seem to be the 2 most likely venues - anyone booked anywhere else?

our first booking we did ages ago and that was Cardiff thinking that Wales deserved its chance to hold a Davis Cup tie!

It doesn't look as if they can hold the event at the O2 in Greenwich as it is booked for Marvel Universe Live from 15 September

Would Cardiff be big enough. From Wikipedia the Motorpoint arena is 5000 seating, 7000 standing - does it not need to be 8000 for the semi? I know they looked at millennium stadium for the final but not sure if they would go to that much trouble for the semi-final?

I thought the semi would be at the Millenium Stadium - would hold a great many fans - but take your point about the effort involved although after winning Wimbledon I would imagine take up of tickets would be huge.

From memory it is 8000 for the semi and 12000 for the final. There is a limited number of indoor arenas in the UK of that size, particularly empty ones.
It looks as though the Barclaycd Arena in Birmingham is free (capacity is upto 15800 but less for tennis event).

 at least there's a chance of a home final! Might become Cilic and co's biggest supporter! At least France would be a bit easier to get to the Croatia if it's away! Getting ahead of myself here but looks like we'll have a great chance in the semis!

To Tennisfan - I think we should book Manchester too
Usually, whenever it's in Glasgow, I stay at the Travelodge. Last September, I got a 10% discount from them as I'd stayed there in the March. If it's Birmingham, I'll probably be staying at the Eaton hotel again.

Anyone know when the venue will be announced? Been trying to find out. I don't live round the corner from NIA anymore but I'm desperate to go to another tie
I come back from holiday late 15/09 - not good timing on my part! So looks like I'll be a tv viewer. I can't see it being Birmingham (or Glasgow, sorry folks),
possibly London or Cardiff (not easy to get to by train).I've got fingers crossed for Manchester or Liverpool. If that's the case, I'll try for a ticket and
leave my unpacking for another day! When is the announcement expected?
The Echo Arena is apparently too small.

Me too. PI Brindley Place in Brum and Sandyford in Glasgow. No need for me to book for north west venues as could travel each day.
I've booked PI all over the place again: Glasgow, Brum, Liverpool, Leeds, Cardiff.
I wasted (sorry, enjoyed ) a lot of time on Sunday evening checking what was on at venues across the country. As far as I could judge, London was a no go as O2 and Wembley Arena both seemed to have events on. If not on the dates of the tie then in the run up, and we know they need about 10 days to get the court laid and allow adequate practice time for both teams. Similarly with Manchester Arena. So I don't have hotels in either of those cities.
BTW, Emirates Arena in Glasgow is hosting badminton championships at the end of August.......so I wouldn't discount that.
Seems like my hopes for Manchester and Liverpool are in vain then!
Leeds and I wont need a hotel ;) sorry WE wont need a hotel Jan ;) - Manchester is also reachable from same "hotel" but ****** on public transport

Mine too, unless the LTA can buy off (ahem, sorry make a donation) to the unticketed prayer meeting in Manchester. Florence couldn't be persuaded last year but the large capacity probably makes it worth trying to move the prayer meeting
Oh, and for Glasgow don't forget there's also the SECC as well as Hydro and Emirates. There's a concert on at the Clyde Auditorium on the 17th (Ronan Keating) but main SECC looks available. I am also sad enough to have checked the roof height - 9 metres, which I believe is the minimum DC requirement. I think it could take the required number of seats, the main hall seating is 10,000 max (prob for a concert) but if they remove the partitions to the adjacent hall then I reckon its big enough. Someone else more tech savvy on here may know....
And just to add to the Cardiff possibilities. I was checking flights/trains just in case. Wouldn't you know that there won't be a train service from Bristol-Cardiff that weekend because of engineering works and so there's a bus replacement - can't remember if its for the whole journey or just part, but that will add to the logistics for us fans....

I've booked PI in B'ham (Brindley Place) and Glasgow (George Sq). I stayed withe friends in Lanark for last year's semi, to avoid the transport debacle, but they've got a new baby so don't wouldn't feel comfortable doing that again (because I don't want to impose, not because I hate baby:rolling:)

I've just about recovered from making the last arrangements:rolling: Seriously though I would probably do it again if it's the Emirates, don't know if it would be worthwhile for the Hydro though-only a mile away from city centre (train station close though admittedly may be busy)and taxis should be easier to come by there or nearby.

Oh bless you James - wasn't hinting it should be you again, but fantastic if you didn't mind. I didn't use minibus last time, but everyone said it made the trip so much better. Surely if Glasgow it would be Hydro, as tennis court being laid for the Wednesday after. Ghent roof was not very high for final so? Anyway, I have booked 2 nights cancellable at PI George Sq as prices increasing by the day! Must be all the people doing the same - just in case! Whilst there was talk of the Hydro roof being too low in the media last year of course may not be correct! The only time I've heard the Emirates mentioned was in a Daily Record (http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/tennis/andy-murray-set-glasgow-return-8445082) report! Has been a lot of talk of the Hydro like in this Telegraph (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/tennis/2016/07/18/andy-murray-pledges-to-return-for-great-britains-davis-cup-semi/) article though.
So I guess it's a good idea to book hotels in Glasgow and Birmingham. Hopefully closer too as last year we ended up staying in Coatbridge! It was nice but only with the car. Then on the Sunday there was no parking
Jerry - go with Premier Inns, that's the forum standard hotel for these things :D don't just do Glasgow or Birmingham either - we tend to book lots of possible destinations and using the cancellable bookings tend to save a fortune ;)

Yeah I did that for the final, used booking.com for a free cancellation and Boole din Belgium and Ghent before they announced. The problem with the semi was I forgot until I got the tickets in August from the LTA and then went to Tanzania. The Internet was sketchy and when I got home it was Coatbridge or nothing. I booked a hotel last minute for Serbia too as I spent too much on Wimbledon and queens but I ended up in the same hotel as some of the forumers by accident. I was in the Rex

Am completely losing track of suggested venues so apologies if I'm repeating previous discussions.
Birmingham & Glasgow seem to be top contenders with Cardiff number 3....is that about right?
Manchester with Billy Graham-esque bloke preaching to a reported 30,000 folk last time he was there & praying with, one assumes, a similarly large group of the faithful a couple of days before the DC tie doesn't make me think it's going to be a very likely venue - just as well as I need an awkward set up of rooms & can't find anything reasonable, so not bothering.
Anywhere else I should be booking random rooms????
Wish LTA would get on with it as cheap trains & flights (if it's Cardiff for me) will vanish.

Based on the recent hardcourt ties in the UK, I think they would aim to start building the court around the 5th/6th of September, so would need exclusive access from then till the 18th.

Added a Cardiff hotel to my repertoire. Sleeperz right by the station and stadium. Hotel prices in Cardiff more pricey than the other possible venue cities, but hey-ho. Also booked the PI near the Birmingham NEC to add to my Brindley Place booking - that's Birmingham fully covered. Sorted for Glasgow if it's the Hydro - need to decide whether to book an alternative for if they use Emirates. Haven't bothered with a London booking as doubt it will be Wimbledon and the O2 and Wembley look booked up.

I am becoming confused as to which thread I should post regarding the SF! I have just asked on another thread should I also book Cardiff, and hey-ho, some answers here! Kath, Gillian and I stayed in the Argyle in Sauchiehall Street last September and it was a breeze getting to the emirates. So even if the venue moves from the hydro, I would be happy enough staying at the Sandyford. (which I have provisionally booked!). Just a thought! Yay - was hoping for Glasgow. One ticket for each of the three days please - possibly 2 will confirm by end of day. Plus minibus if possible. Will be staying on for charity match. Only get back from Norway on the 4th Sept. This retirement lark is blinking exhausting.
Have to admit happy with the venue. Easier for me to arrange time off work as only need to Friday now so hopefully holidays left if we make the final!
I was also trying to remember, 29_adjacent, about how much they charged for last year's semi final tickets. All I can remember is I had to get mine through a resale.
Last time, I parked my car in the free car park which is about a ten minute walk from the stadium. I'll be doing it for all three days, instead of having pay whatever the LTA decide to charge for the Celtic FC car park.

Can't wait! Will be making a mad dash from work to arrive about 4 on the Friday! Worth it.
Just found an old email for the semi final tie against Australia. Apparently, the LTA were charging £179 for a three day ticket. Would it be as much as that for this year's one?
I'm sure we were much more than that. These (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/tennis/article-3195608/Davis-Cup-semi-final-tickets-Andy-Murray-Great-Britain-against-Australia-Glasgow-cost-supporters-95.html) figures ring a bell. We were courtside in Cat 1, of course.

Can't deny I'm a little disappointed, Glasgow is a pain to get to and with travel and parking and hotels on the Thursday night too. Plus more time off work. After Serbia's travel we were hoping to save some of our holidays lol. I hope there is more food this time. Last time we were so hungry on the first day. Though someone said today that you can take food in. Is this true? Hoping for tickets now with you guys it was great in Serbia
Celtic are away from home that weekend, so I imagine their car park will be available all weekend.
And I'm sure there were no 3 day tickets either.
As long as I am lucky enough to get my 3 day ticket, I will pay what needs to be paid. They are the champions after all and I am so looking forward to seeing them again. Travel out of Britain is off the cards for me right now, but anywhere within is great - Glasgow makes it even better this time round.
Was that for cat 1 or cat 2 (the £179) I can't find my email from LTA or my tickets
We had cat two trough the LTA last year, as the cat 1 were out of our price range. Hoping it's not too much more this year but Birmingham was pricey so who knows. Any ideas when to expect prices?

We got food in ok each time it was at Emirates. Delighted for my friends and family who weren't able to travel- and for myself as I can now see some of Friday's .

Feel the same. I really like Glasgow but not getting to (and especially from) Emirates and it's the expense and time off work like you say. Expecting ticket prices to be high on top of that as well. But hey, we'll all have a great time!

Yay - was hoping for Glasgow. One ticket for each of the three days please - possibly 2 will confirm by end of day. Plus minibus if possible. Will be staying on for charity match. Only get back from Norway on the 4th Sept. This retirement lark is blinking exhausting.
Eeek, before more minibus requests come in, I'd better clarify that nobody has committed to arranging one yet - I was just teasing James, who did it last time. But fingers crossed someone will oblige - apparently it really improved the weekend last time.
I'm sure I remember it being well over £200. Queens was just under £300 for the QF and I'm sure the semi was just a bit less.
EDIT: Teresa - you are on the wrong thread for ticket requests!

Assuming enough interest I am prepared to arrange a Minibus again. However can I request that people post ideally either on the travel thread(or PM me) and state how many journeys they will require the 3 days (sure most will want to go go both ways, though may be a bit different on the Sunday as some usually leave early) I think the last time it worked out at £6.30 per journey (would depend on nos) Obviously will need to give folk a bit of time to decide if they will need the service if they are definitely going, before I would enquire.

PI George Sq for me too and for once I only need Friday and Saturday because Glasgow is reachable on Friday morning!
PI George Square (Friday & Saturday nights)
PI outside Glasgow. Needed guaranteed car parking as the three of us are driving up from Liverpool on Thursday night. It's about 15 mins drive so closer than Coatbridge. But after flights an Serbia, Birmingham, queens, Wimbledon and booking the wtf we needed a cheap place to stay and a cheap way of getting there lol
The prices for the Serbia tickets appeared quite late on, though I gues the sale was too. I wish the LTA would hurry up and announce prices so I can start budgeting. Also calm myself because in my head it's all kinds of money lol

Getting the train out to Dalmarnock before the tennis was no problem at the USA tie as people staggered their arrival over quite a long period so there was plenty of room on the trains. Going back to Glasgow Central after the matches ended was another story altogether - queuing for up to 2 hours in the rain! On the Saturday my friend and I walked back, which took about 30-40 minutes I think.

There are buses that stop near Dalmarnock train station too, I ended up going back into the city centre that way at least one of the previous ties because the queue for the train was crazy. There's also an industrial estate across from Emirates and I parked there with no problems on the Sunday.
I am staying in Edinburgh with a friend. Reduces the cost of these capers. Staying in Glasgow the night of the Hydro match though and heading home direct from Glasgow on the Thursday.

Still to be arranged, last time it left from George st just past Greggs and also picked up at the PI. Think it left at 11am on Friday/Sun whilst 11.30 on the Saturday to suit some who were arriving that day. Imagine it would be much the same, would try arrange convenient times. If anyone else thinks they might be interested in the Minibus (even if not definite) can they let me know. Did you, perchance, share that 'experience' with the Serbian taxi driver who dropped us off at the wrong square and in the wrong street on that Saturday night in Belgrade???

The flag sounds like a great idea :)

Yeah a great big flag would be fab, gives the group more of an identity especially since I think all the others have flags and/or banners? :GBflag:

Am prepared to buy a Union flag and have it customised; ANDY MURRAY FAN FORUM. Need advice on size. Either 9 x 6 or 5 x 3 ft. What do you think?
It needs to be bigger than the flag I have (that I got given in from Naples) Guess that is probably 5 x 3
Friday to Monday, have an apartment sorted plus free train courtesy of Tesco club card
Are there many of us staying until Monday or are most folk going home Sunday?
I too, have crumblies to organise. To add to the mix they walk at a glacial, sloth-like pace & are always late. I now tell them at least 1/4 hour before the time I want them to be there! Had to leave hubby to sort them out at one point in Serbia as thought I was going to have to batter them. Oh dear. Must try harder this time to be a good, kind, caring daughter.
I am staying until Monday! I had to leave early in Brum (or would have missed last train!) and missed most of the exciting final set between Kei and Andy. Never ever want to have to that again!

That happened to Anita and I as well as we had to make our flight. Met plenty folk in airport in same boat lol! It was awful. Had my mum texting me updates all the way to the airport. Glad I won't need to repeat that this time!
I am staying till Thursday as I am going to the Hydro match. Will probably take a little pilgrimage to Dunblane on the Monday or Tuesday.

Would I have time to go to Dunblane on Monday and be back in Glasgow airport for no later than 3.30pm? Wish I had booked a later flight now! Excellent idea Teresa!

I can recommend Timberbush Tours, Teresa. http://www.timberbush-tours.co.uk/our-tours/from-glasgow/. We did the Loch Lomond, The Trossachs and Stirling Castle option, and just loved it. Our tour guide (Russell Forrest) was great - we asked him if we could detour to Dunblane, he said no because he had to stick to the schedule, we were disappointed but of course understood, then he surprised us by taking us there. So we did get to see the postbox as part of a lovely trip :) I'm leaving Glasgow around 3.30 on the Monday, so can't fit in another tour this time unfortunately, but definitely recommend.

I did Stirling Castle via the train on the Monday last September before the early evening flight back and would recommend it. I also heard good things about Timberbush but didn't have quite enough time. Stirling and Dunblane are a fairly short train ride from the station near George Sq - same line if I recall.

Thanks, I was up in Loch Lomond earlier this year, and have visited Stirling Castle several times, so will probably just do Dunblane this time.
Patlowe it's about 35 minutes by train from Glasgow, so if you fancy coming along let me know. My railcard works for 2 people.
We have booked hotels and trains but see the block booking might now be oversubscribed. My wife particularly liked sitting with all the fan forum group as she likes the vocal support and singing - I am a bit more reserved though! We came as part of the fan forum to Serbia for the first time. Staying in a central Glasgow hotel.
So do most people think the larger flag?
I hope that people with large flags will think of others sitting behind them who do not want their view to be blocked. It would be sensible for people to hold their large flags
at their own neck level rather than above their heads.

This flag is to identify our group and could possibly be draped over rails or held up before play begins, at certain change overs and between rubbers. Many supporters including me have own flags which we wave like maniacs to acknowledge great points etc. I'm afraid that flag waving is an integral part of D.C. support and I'm sure that most people have had their view obscured at some time.

Maureen, that reminded me of Birmingham when we put up the banner from Ghent and your view was obscured. Sorry.

I've seen a few people on TV at Wimbledon causing a problem. At an Andy Murray match, the cameras kept showing four men standing up and doing a dance after every Murray point. Eventually the camera showed someone behind them, telling the four men to stop doing it which they did. It probably makes good television, but it's annoying to see someone's back side.
Then there was the problem of Lleyton Hewitt's Fanatics who kept standing up. Officials had to tell them to stop doing it because it annoyed the people behind them. In Hewitt's interview, he defended his fans by saying they didn't do it during play. Well yes, but everyone still wants to see the players fist pumping etc.
I asked someone in front of me to show some consideration wth their flag, and they did stop, but called me names after the match.
People want to support their teams. . In the Davis cup away ties for example, players and Leon talk about the visible support helping. In many cases this is people stood up and waving their flags, shouting their support. It's not every point but to be expected on big points. Usually many are standing. So people in front of those in front of you, may be stood. Though it is less common in some tournaments (queens for example), it has very much been a part of every Davis cup tie I have attended. What annoys me is people filming on their iPad drying play. That obscures the view during live play. It's strange too because many are televised so you could record at home

That reminds me - when I was trying to get photos of the team celebrating in Ghent I got one of someone a couple of rows in front with her spoon and tin tray totally obscuring the team! I did manage a couple of good ones though, especially one of Andy leaping into the arms of his teammates!
At least 75% of the photos I take at DC feature someone's flag or wig or hat or whatever. It makes them arty lol

The atmosphere of DC with all the standing up, flag waving and chanting is not for everyone .... BUT it is absolutely as you say, what DC is about and it's what the team wants! It will never change and people will never stop everyone from standing up, so harsh as it sounds I think everyone who attends DC just has to accept it, especially sitting with a fan group. I am very much someone who stands up and shouts and often during important moments it is after every point. I used to have the opposite problem in my early days of DC, sitting with the 'normal' people ... I was the ONLY one who stood up! Maybe that's the way to go for people who don't like it.

I hope I haven't caused too much offence with my jumping up and down and large flag, I know i did block someone taking a photo until i realised
It is even more common in the fan groups. Less common sitting with the LTA but still happens. Three of us always travel to the tennis together, so even when with the LTA at least there were the three of us say song together. I guess if it was just one it would be more likely someone would complain: There was a woman sat a few seats down from us in the back the Brits blocks at last year's semi who complained that there was too much shouting between points. She said it very loudly to the guy she was with. At first I thought it was aimed at us three but then having seen the way she was looking at a guy a few seats futher down I guess it was aimed at him. He was louder than me but not for lack of trying. He just had a great booming voice. It is the only time at a home tie I've heard a complaint. But that's doesn't mean people don't complain when they get home. There were a lot of complaints from Belgians in the final but that's to be expected.

I had a Belgian behind me complaining in French that I kept standing at the DC final. He was one of the corporate lot with his mates, chatting away during points and constantly looking at his phone. He didn't think I understood French. So I turned and said "Pardon monsieur, je suis desole." Then stood up and shouted "On y va Grand Bretagne!"

Just to let everyone know the minibus for the Emirates is now booked, still room for another 7 on all journeys (bit more on onwards journeys Fri/Sat) should anyone else decide later. Don't need payments just now, will keep you informed of further details.
