Also really hope Team Suisse win the GOLD in the ladies' dubs.

And very happy for Strycova and Safarova that THEY won the bronze! :bronze:

Certainly don't hate Rafa. Not keen on his tennis but that's another story. As I said, what I find difficult to take is the persistent failure to credit anyone who beats Rafa with having played better - not necessarily by you RL. There always seems to be an excuse for him. This is not just a tennis forum, it's Andy's forum. It's understood that folk also support other players but there are threads for those players. It's academic now but I maintain the implications was a no win, no praise situation had Andy met Rafa tomorrow and won.
There are members who equally won't hear a word said against Andy but at least it's on his own forum.

Listen I always defend Andy on VamosBrigade or used to, I don't go on there much anymore.

There was no need for sarcasm, Pat - of course I know that Rafa sometimes plays badly even when physically fit, just like anyone else. In fact he spent much of last year playing badly and didn't win much at all. But I have been particularly concerned about his wrist injury this year, because I have seen how serious these can be (DelPo, Laura). My being worried does not mean that I am 'making excuses'. However I was very encouraged by the way he played yesterday and hope that my worries have been unfounded, although I am rather relieved that he doesn't have to play five sets today.

Sorry but Rafa is always a great sportsman and conducts himself very well. He is also incredibly humble. And he and Andy are good friends and I think Andy's a very good judge of character. Yes, he should have not withdrawn from the mixed or at least done so earlier, I agree, but other than that he's not done anything too awful, come on!!!

With the greatest of respect, a great sportsman in a great competition does not leave his withdrawal, from part of that competition so late that somebody else misses the chance to play. If there had been any doubt in his mind about playing, he could have at least pre warned the alternates, so they made sure they were about. In The Olympics having the chance to play to win a medal for your country is a major thing, that's why we are all obsessed with the medal table. There was also the incident of the disputed point in the doubles - not really in keeping with The Olympic spirit was it?

I also don't see him as humble I am afraid, his loss yesterday will almost certainly be put down to his wrist injury, not to Del Potro playing better. The subliminal message with Nadal is always "I would have won if I hadn't been injured".

I am not a fan and will be supporting Nishikori in the Bronze medal playoff.

He's so humble he must have been at great pain to make sure a certain umpire wasn't allowed to officiate his matches, I'm afraid as his career has declined the veneer has slipped easy to be polish when your on top

I havent missed rafas annoying tics and taking forever to serve however I have missed his playing.
I worry he wanted to play this so badly amd hasnt fully recovered which will impede further slams etc we shall see. I was rooting for Delpo though as he is really playing well and will get hopefully one better than 2012. He has been through a lot with his injuries.
Im certain Nadal will get the bronze today.

He hasn't blamed yesterday's loss on his wrist. Give me a break. I cannot believe the Rafa hate in the last few days. Sad.

Anyway, moving on from all the Rafa hate and going back to what this thread should really be about: am watching mixed dubs bronze medal match. Hoping Team India gets the W! :cheer:

Altho' they are a set down so not looking too hopeful.

Oh well they lost. Maybe Sania should have picked Leander as her partner instead. He has so much more energy than Bops despite the fact he's almost double in age.

Well done Team Czech! :bronze:

Steps winning bronze but his celebration was gold medal winning, not forgetting two of his ex girlfriends are medal winners. If you want to get a medal, sexy Steps is your man. :shades:

No it was Jamie/Jo who lost to the winners,Bopanna/Mirza who beat Andy/Heather lost to the runners up and then lost play off.
