We are seeded and cant draw another seed, I wasn't sure about Ger but Italy would be home, according to current rankings away options are Aus USA Can Jap Spa and Rus
Edit for some reason thought we had played Can at home looks like I may be wrong and it could be home or away

5 chances of significant journeys and cost, unfortunately, the other 7 should be seeded the finalists 1 and 2 gb will be 3

I am unsure about Ger, don't remember playing them in past 30 years but I will bow to Steven's knowledge, the other 7 seeds seem correct but we can only meet those in qf sf or fin

there is currently a significant gap between Serbia 8th with about 9,300 and Italy 9th with about 7,400 points

I would say this will be the state of play:
Seeded; Argentina, Croatia, GBR, Czech Rep, France, Swiss, Belgium and Serbia.
Unseeded: Spain, Australia, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia and USA.
But it really depends on how much ranking points are gained/lost.
The World Group first round is the week after the Australian Open (3-5 Feb) so an away tie to Australia might encourage Andy to play otherwise any other draw is going to require considerable travel and jet lag as a result.

I certainly could not make the journey to Australia so am hoping for somewhere nearer to home.

Yes there are some place I could scrimp and save to get to, move things around and switch out holidays, as we did with Serbia, but an Australia trip would have to involve a lottery win. Especially as it's not that far off
Spain would probably be OK, otherwise I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a home tie (and preferably further south than Glasgow!!)

The top 8 rankings are now confirmed so the 8 options are as expected
Edit I misread the date just saw 18th, it is still possible that Serbia could drop out of top8 and be replaced, possibly by Australia, Serbia would be at home, of course
roytennisfan
19-09-2016, 13:11
Yes I guessed there are many very expensive options of those I prefer Australia. Only cheaper travel abroad is Spain otherwise there are 2 and half home chances out of 8.
Edit It could possibly be 3 and a half home chances if Serbia do drop out of top8 which is possible

Certainly wouldn't make Australia and wouldn't imagine it would be feasible for many, though of course could be Spain or another home tie (possibly would be in England next time)
Cheap flights to Russia are available with Easyjet from London I guess. My friend recently went to Moscow with them. I guess we will see in a few days and hope that some of the nations that are futher away get knocked out. Don't think we'd have much luck against Australia in Australia.

I have just had a detailed look at the ranking points system (after finding i misread the date regarding my earlier post which I have corrected).
It is looking to me that Serbia could drop a lot of points (sf win in past 4 years) and could be replaced in the seeds by either Italy, or Australia but by no means certain, it's pretty complex and i haven't done a full calculation
Edit: Having looked in more detail at the calculation for Serbia, Italy and Australia, i am still unsure if Serbia have enough to stay ranked 8th

Both are beatable imho :-), Italy would have lost in Naples had it not been a masterclass from Fognini and to be fair, Germany rely on Philip Kohlschreiber plus Dan has a win over Zverev.
For me, we have to avoid Japan, Canada, Spain and the States.
The others would be good draws imho.

They played a final in the Bull Ring a few years ago, our last time against Spain was in Telford......in 1986

home draws against Italy and Germany are winnable. I'd say we should beat the USA again even if it is away.
Away ties v Japan & Russia are manageable. Australia/Canada/Spain are potential banana skins.

Of course all these predictions could well go out of the window if Andy and Jamie choose not to play next year!
I would imagine they will try their best to play the first round, if the team we face seem difficult, to help us avoid play offs, even with the tie being so close to the Aussie open. Though it depends how far they get.

With Andy and Jamie fresh and on good form, all are winnable, however some are more difficult than others like Spain away possibly the hardest tie, Australia away would be just after their open , our guys will be already there and hopefully on top form, Canada if away is harder than at home, Japan have a beatable second player, USA could be tougher than both of those, Germany have two decent players but it's at home, Russia a bit of unknown, Italy looks the easiest option but with Fognini who knows (but it won't be on clay!) Without Andy most are loseable!
For the sake of members being able to go, hope we get a home tie
I was going to say, if we got Australia and they chose Brisbane, I can stay with my cousin in Scarborough and she might allow one other person from the group to stay as well. I had have another weird dream, last night. I dreamt I was in Russia waiting for a tram with my grandfather (my dad's dad) who has been dead for 24 years. We were trying to get to the Davis Cup tie.

potential results also depend on whether the biggies from the other teams play. Raonic, Nadal etc.... Whether the Australians are behaving themselves etc ! I think Andy loves the DC and the atmosphere. I reckon he'll be there. :superman:
Not sure how that would work either. How did it work when Serbia & Montenegro separated their DC teams?
I think it was decided by lot but don't quote me on that.
Also hoping for a home tie but odds not with us this time and we have had a good run of them ... only 2 away ties in the last 2 years.
Whilst Spain in February would be nice for us fans, it would certainly be a nightmare for our boys, so much strength in depth. We will know tomorrow ....

So the dates of the ties have changed again? First round is February again?
In an interview with STV (http://stv.tv/sport/tennis/1367715-andy-murray-won-t-alter-2017-schedule-in-bid-to-become-world-s-best/) Andy said "the only event the Davis Cup had any impact on me was Indian Wells" referring to the gruelling match against Nishikori the week before and the "rest of the year haven't found [Davis Cup] much of a hindrance". Sounds like he's up for another bash next year. ;)
If others felt the same that might explain why the first round has been moved to Feb and no longer just before IW thought one week after the AO doesn't make sense.
Yeah the first round and the quarter final have moved earlier. The semis and final are the same

Gone back to the 2014 timetable, to me it doesn't seem very different, 2 rounds after slams and another after the atp finals, with possible surface changes, does not encourage the very top players to compete...and that is without the ludicrous decision to drop the ranking points. Maybe it should be mandatory that the courts are similar to the previous event.

Interesting that Judy is very much in favour of a neutral venue for the final and Leon is very much in favour of best of 3!
For the boys i'd opt for Australia round 1, just after the Aussie Open
I very much doubt I'll be at many ties next year as there is only 2 possible home ties, although Canada will be decided by lot

Posted this on other DC forum
Think how the move to best of 3 from 5 would have changed things, Wardy would have lost in an hour to Isner and GB went out in Round 1 in 2015
But .......Andy beats DelPo in 3 and GB are in this years final .......BUT......we would not have played in Serbia since Djokovich lost in 3 to Kukushkin...so who knows
It certainly changes the outcomes and reduces the entertainment

hate, hate, hate, the preposed change from five to three never mind the change they already sneaked past fans, no tie break in the fifth, and the neutral venue????????? whoever dreamed that up wants lining up in front of a firing squad
can you imagine this years final, played in????????????? Shanghai??????????????? maybe, wherever it's going to be a city who can afford to line the pockets of the ITF and not a city who can host the best experience for fans
Croatia v Argentina? what genuine fan could afford a three day jaunt to the other side of the world??????????????????? absolutely shocking
I can understand them wanting a neutral venue for the final when it's a European country v South America - but does that mean they make it equally bad for both sets of fans and hold it in Asia?!! If it was two European countries, holding it anywhere outside Europe would be ridiculous. Maybe if they're having a bidding process, they need to announce two (or even three) potential venues in different continents, and only announce the choice once they know who the finalists are. Oh, but then that would defeat the object of naming the venue in advance and being able to book a big venue early:shrug:

Not exactly the best draw (for travelling supporters anyway ;)) ,though may suit a few forum members depending on location. However suppose we've had a decent share of home ties and not too distant overseas ones.
Recent home venues Canada have used, seems to be Vancouver for Feb/Mar/Apr ties
Sep 2016 Halifax
Mar 2015 Vancouver
Sep 2014 Halifax
Apr 2013 Vancouver
Feb 2013 Vancouver
Sep 2012 Montreal (outdoor)
Feb 2012 Vancouver
could it have gone much worse? just told hubby I think his money is safe next year LOL
Australian winner travels to Canada the next day, wouldn't blame him in the slightest if the second part of that statement is given a miss
Travel wise for the team there's little difference between Canada and home.
Think they are crazy to make it the weekend after the AO.
So Andy and Jamie win in OZ with Kyle and Dan get to 1/4 or semi's.
It's gonna be tough.
Caley Shaun
22-09-2016, 16:33
Very tough draw imho, unless Pospisil and Raonic don't play but they also have a good doubles player in Daniel Nestor and just the other day, the handed a debut to Dennis Shapalov.
I am not to sure of Frank Dancevic or their other options but am confident that Dan or Kyle could beat them if on form.
Due to timezone, this tie will be on around early evening so that is my night sorted :-).
Really hope they are "nice" (sticks tongue out) and choose somewhere accesible.
Also, it will no doubt be on an indoor hardcourt, again, I am not sure on what the speed will be, what would favour our boys?

according to the TD place website they have a comedy festival on from 4-18 February.
I suppose some folks think DC would fit the bill ...
... and the Ottawa 67'ers are playing on the 3rd Feb at Lansdowne Live which is the sports field.
The Comedy Festival is only at the Arena from the 16th to the 18th as far as I can tell.
The 67's play in the Arena, however, and they are due to play on the 3rd and the 5th.

erm, well the TD Place website has a rolling news item saying the Comedy Festival is 4-18 Feb (it has a fetching image of a beaver to announce it). https://www.tdplace.ca/
and there's also this ...
2017 Festival Line-up and New Ticket Package (http://www.crackup.ca/blog/2016/11/6/2017-festival-line-up-and-new-ticket-package)
Alterna Savings Crackup (formerly Cracking-up the Capital Comedy Festival), a Winterlude partner, will take over Ottawa and TD Place, Lansdowne Park from February 4th – 18th with its unique programming
BUT OK I see that tickets are for sale 16-18 Feb.
:hmm:
Yes, that's where I was. I assume that they mean that it's in the surrounds from the 4th to 15th, and the Arena at the end.
Either way, between that and the ice hockey, that seems like an awful lot of stuff to move.

Just the three days of tennis. I did not see any other kind of offers.

Glad you got this, Fiona. My experience of pre-sales is that they limit the number of good seats offered and indeed often include less popular seats on the basis that people will panic buy believing all seats to be gone. Then when the main sale comes around there are in fact still good seats to be had. It's cunning.

If I tell you that my brother lives an hour's drive from Ottawa, you will probably be scratching your head and wondering why Fentiger and I haven't booked DC tickets. Well, the reason is that if we are paying for a trip to Canada, we want to spend the time with him and also travel to Vancouver to explore that area. Doing that in early February just doesn't appeal, especially as he currently lives in a mobile home with no running water whilst he is building a house. We get on fine but he never communicates so his travel plans (in fact any plans) are a complete mystery. Why am I telling you this? He has just been to stay for a couple of days (no prior notice!) and has told me that he will be driving the GB team around during the Davis Cup tie. Just thought you might be vaguely interested.
so when you say " We get on fine", what do you mean? just asking!

I'm one of five and when we get together, according to our other halves, we can be quite a closed group. However, none of us live close to each other so we tend to lead very separate lives and communication is infrequent, particularly from this brother.'Fine' means we are all good friends with each other, enjoy each other's company, are always welcome, have a good laugh and no antagonism whatsoever.

Could be a late night Friday then. I am out Saturday night but will record the doubles if it's on TV (it had better be!) and can watch it on Sunday followed by the reverse singles.
I hadn't realised that Leon doesn't expect Andy to play (info from Hawkeye on another thread). I wonder whether Milos will play ... it could end up like Serbia trip with neither of the top players participating. Will still be a good tie though I'm sure.

Almost got a GB Canada match in r2 at AO. Polansky now Can #2 was 2-1 up against Carreno-Busta before injury curtailed him in the 5th set. Winner plays Kyle. Also gives Canada another option on who to select since he is now ranked above Pospisal and appears to be in good form (he also beat Dan in a challenger last autumn, when Dan wasn't playing that well though)

On current form, a team of Edmund, Evans, Murray (J) and Inglot is going to take some stopping. Might come down to the doubles.....
The teams get announced next week and I think, on Dan and Kyle's current form, the Canadians won't be looking forward to the tie. If Sir Andy doesn't get named in the team, I hope he'll be there like he was last year in Belgrade.
Don't they announce five names next week and just cut it down to four the day before the match? In which case, no prizes for guessing the five will be Edmund, Evans, 2 x Murray and Inglot!
Well Andy has very clearly been saying in interviews that he's looking forward to a break from tennis in February???
Nishikori confirmed in his press conference that he won't be playing the tie against France even though it's in Japan so it should mean France are strong favourites with whatever team they put out.

If he isn't going to play, can't see Andy being named in the squad, the team need a fit reserve in case of an injury, options probably either Liam #308 GB #8 or Cameron #265 GB #5

Not sure why they won't be looking forward to it, I would think that they see themselves as favourites to win with Andy unlikely to play. Raonic will win 2 so they have 3 chances, in the doubles where they have two top 20 doubles players (Nestor & Pospisil) or Raonic (Jamie #4 Dom #43).
Also don't forget Pospisal who has been ranked #25 in the past and recently in October Shanghai ATP1000 he beat 2 top20 players, Karlovic and Dmitrov, both in straight sets before losing to Djokovich, so if he hits that form he could have a fair chance as well. I'm hoping for an exciting tie with Dan winning the 5th rubber to give us victory, BUT it is far from straightforward

You could well be right but Raonic has played many less matches over the past 6 months than Andy and it is their home tie. However he, Pospisal and Nestor all live abroad, so he could go home instead to Monte Carlo and relax. The difference with him not playing though would mean it would be very difficult for Canada to win.

I put Raonic in the camp of 'I'll play DC if you need me but I'm not fussed about flying back to cold Canada just to play potentially one match'. so if Andy doesn't play, Milo probably won't play.

Vashy and Danny both have homes in Canada. Vashy out west and Danny in Toronto. Milos also has a home in Toronto but "lives" in Monte Carlo.
I do hope they all come out to play. This is costing a small fortune and I was very disappointed Andy didn't play Toronto last year so am really hoping he makes it to Ottawa even if it's just to cheer on the team.

I agree totally.
Also who ever scheduled this needs their head reading.
Surely it could'ave been held at a better time?
Last years first round was in March wasn't it?
NB. just had a thought, guess that's one of the good points when
GB home ties are held in Sconny Botland, we can buy tickets
safe in the knowledge that Andy and Jamie won't duck out.
;)
Raonic said he was going to play the tie when Ottawa was announced as the venue but that was then. He hasn't played for Canada since March 2015 having missed the last 3 ties so there must be huge pressure and expectation that he will play in Ottawa.
If Evo keeps winning in Melbourne, will he be a doubt for the tie given he's played a lot of tennis already this year and it's well known how homesick he gets?

If Sir Andy isn't playing then I hope Milos won't play either. I don't want us to win the Davis Cup trophy and then, two years later, find ourselves back in the play off group. It'll be like going back to the Henman and Rusedski days.

It really shows how silly both the ranking system and timing of DC matches are now, with no points for DC or Olympics, players are choosing to miss them and play ATP events instead. They should have doubled the points awarded instead of taking them away and the timing should avoid being next to the slams or ATP finals.
Andy has played a lot and I can understand him deciding not to play, however, there will be no issues like court surface in Serbia so Andy could choose the option to play but to let Dan and Kyle play the singles leaving Andy to rest and then play in the doubles with Jamie. That would then give Andy the option to miss the singles completely or to replace either Dan or Kyle, if that was desirable and Andy felt ok in either rubber 4 or 5 as circumstances dictated

He was considering flying home on Monday, with his wife, Kim Sears, his daughter, Sophia, and his team, but said he would decide later about playing in the Davis Cup tie against Canada in Ottawa the weekend after the final here. “Davis Cup would be next on the schedule but whether I stay here or go home in the meantime, I’m not sure,” Murray said.

"Don’t get me wrong, I’d love him to play. But for his own good it’s better for him to rest up and train and get ready for this next period. Also announced on BBC a couple of minutes ago. Leon Smith says Andy Murray unlikely to play in Davis Cup tie.
I, vaguely, remember either reading or hearing about a football team that played so badly that they promised all their fans their money back. But, I wouldn't have thought Leon Smith would do that sort of thing. He's going to announce the team today and it'll be Kyle Edmund, Dan Evans, Jamie Murray and Dom Inglot. If they can't beat Raonic, Polansky and Pospisil, then we should get seeded for the play offs in September.

Stell I don't know how you can say this, hopefully it is not a kiss of death. You have learned nothing from the Argentina semi final, where Mayer, (a bit like Pospisal, also outside the top100 but previously ranked much higher and with a big serve) played a great final rubber for Argentina, Dan didn't play bad at all, Mayer was playing to his full potential and not like the week before when he lost in a challenger. Also they will chose a fast surface much favoured by both Raonic and Pospisal, being quick, I don't think Dan will mind that but thought Kyle found Glasgow too quick to get into position and therefore unable to play his winning shots. Then, in the doubles they have the choice of two top20 players or Raonic, so It will be tough for Dom and Jamie who won in Belgrade but didn't play particularly well. In my mind none of the 5 rubbers are straightforward, if Raonic doesn't play it is more straightforward but Polansky beat Dan in November though I wouldn't expect him to repeat it in Ottawa.

I think it's best if Andy takes a break but it seems hasn't made definite decision yet even if thought unlikely to play. Whilst it makes it more difficult if Raonic is playing think Andy's interest come first. Of course Davis Cup can be exciting whether Andy is there or not, however travelling a long distance not viable for myself(particularly when not confident of Andy's participation). The thing is though that's it's easier to see Andy at Davis Cup than some other events (particularly Wimbledon),therefore naturally some folk are disappointed if Andy unable to play at home ties.

He was up to 24 in the rankings at one time. I remember being at Wimbledon a couple of years ago to see Andy play him in the quarter final. Also they have Nestor who is a very experienced doubles player, even if he is getting on a bit in tennis terms.
For Info - most of you probably know this. I didn't. Very short extract from Times article today.
Dan Evans, Kyle Edmund, Jamie Murray and Dominic Inglot have been nominated for the first-round tie, which takes place on hard court in Ottawa over three days from February 3.
Although Murray’s name has not been put down, it is still possible for him to take part. Under Davis Cup rules, two changes can be made to the team of four up until the draw is made on the day before the tie begins.
I already knew that, Teresa.
I've read, in my TV magazine, BBC 2 will be showing it for two hours from 11.05pm (23.05pm) next Friday. Very generous of them!

The man has given his all to DC in the past, so now he needs to schedule his tennis in a smart way. We all know the tennis calendar does no favours to the top players in encouraging DC participation. I know those making the trip might be a bit disappointed but Kyle, Dan, Jamie & Dom will be a good team and you'll give them a great boost with your support.

He went off court for an MTO but the Eurosport commies had no idea what the problem could be.
Andy is actually a "friend of the show" having tweeted Adrian Durham during his programme (about boxing) a couple of years ago. I would think Andy was still in the air during yesterday's show. ;)
Pospisil lost in the first round of the Maui Challenger yesterday to teenager Michael Mmoh in 3 sets. His confidence must be shot so it would seem now unlikely he'd play a single's rubber but Pospisil/Nestor v Jamie/Dom would be hard to call.

Seriously hoping that Raonic doesn't turn up and Pospisil losing to Mmoh will increase our chances.
Raonic MTO was for an abductor problem. Should need plenty of rest. About two weeks worth !
From Raonic's press conference.
Q. What was the problem at 3-2 in the second? How did it affect you before that or after that?
MILOS RAONIC: I hope it's nothing too serious.
Q. It's the right thigh?
MILOS RAONIC: It's my adductor again.
Q. How bad did it bother you after? Did you carry it going in or did it happen during the match?
MILOS RAONIC: Sort of the backstory is another part of the adductor I damaged in Brisbane. I was healing that before this tournament. I got it to pretty good shape. We still had to monitor it.
Then today, I guess I hurt another aspect of it similar to the last two, but not by any means that serious.
Q. Does it feel like sometimes whenever you get close to one of your goals or one of the things you work so hard for, that something always happens, particularly physically?
MILOS RAONIC: I don't know. I don't want to depress myself thinking about that too much right now.
Q. How do you think the flu you've been fighting affected your fitness today? Maybe you didn't practice as much as you wanted.
MILOS RAONIC: I'm sure that everybody has something they carry. Obviously this tournament, for me in general, these last now two and a half weeks, have been quite difficult just trying to manage everything.
First dealing with the physical aspect, getting myself quite ready, I thought, making the most of that, then dealing with the health aspect, then now with this.
It was quite a draining two and a half weeks.
Q. What is your thought on Davis Cup at this point? It's five minutes after your match, I realize.
MILOS RAONIC: I don't really know. I have to see what this is. It's occurred now four times in the last 12 months. I'm very much up in the air.

Yes I had seen he lost in Maui was thinking of posting earlier and then remembered Mayer lost just like him in a challenger in France a week before he served and played terrific to beat Dan in the fifth rubber in Glasgow. Doesn't of course mean Pospisil is capable of doing the same though. If Raonic is looking for an excuse to pull out, he obviously has one now.

Of course Vashy will play the singles. But I highly doubt Milos will play which sucks. If that is the case then I hope they bring in Peter Polansky rather than Frank Dancevic.
Why didn't Polansky make himself available in the first place? With the way things are going, with the Canadians, Leon Smith doesn't really to beg for Sir Andy to join them.

Wow - Rupert was amazing. Who was that idiot host? How do they get the job? No answer needed - he's a nobody. Knew nothing about tennis. Don't get ulcers over it guys! Not worth it.
Ulcers?! I had to stop listening!!! Grrrr although it shows how much some idiots have moved on, as this would have been more the norm years ago!

Think he was available but they decided on young Denis Shapovalov who whilst still only 17, is showing great promise for the future. Polansky has played mainly futures and challengers mostly against players ranked 200+++, has a ch122 and in my mind would stand about the same chance against Dan and Kyle in a best of 5 as they stand against Raonic so Pospisal with a ch25 and a big serve and more used to playing top50 opponents, stands a much better chance which is why he will probably play singles. I reckon without Raonic, they would go with Shapovalov as the one for the future

Yes I guess Denis is the face of the future but PP has so much more experience.
Radio five live usually do a preview of the DC ties on the Thursday before they start, but not this time as they're doing a preview of the Six Nations instead.

What does Andy do now?
Eleanor Crooks @EleanorcrooksPA
Milos Raonic has pulled out of Canada's Davis Cup tie against GB and is replaced by Peter Polansky. Definitely advantage GB now

Means Polansky and Dan will be #1 with Pospisal and Kyle #2 ....likely matches
1/2 Dan v Pospisal
1/2 Kyle v Polansky
3 Dom Jamie v Pospisal Nestor
4 Dan v Polansy
5 Kyle v Pospisal (could be subbed by Shapovalov)
It didn't look good for him when he mentioned the injury, it seemed he did it before the AO and thought it was healed but then injured another part. I expected it would be at 1 week to heal but to avoid further injury 2 would be better. I hope for milos that it doesn't ruin his chances ahead of Dubai and the masters.

Dubai is still a month away so plenty of time but Milos is also listed for Delray Beach the week before (20th Feb)

'The winners will face France in the quarter-finals in April, with Britain facing an away tie should they progress.'
taken from story on BBC Sport website. Perhaps the Japanese might have something to say about that ?
My physiotherapist told me that Raonic would need a lot of rest and then to do light training. There is a steroid injection, which Raonic can take for it, but it wouldn't be recommended.
BBC 2 will be showing the tennis between 6pm and 8.30pm (18.00pm and 20.30pm) next Saturday.

It would appear only BBC showing it. Cannot find any mention of it on Eurosport. It says they are not covering any more tennis until May.

The doubles should be a competitive match and a tricky one to call with Canada having two top twenty players amd GB Jamie and Dom, 1pm Canadian start makes 6pm spot on

I am defo looking forward to the doubles more than any other match now. In fact I always prefer the Saturday doubles match. I hope I get to meet some of the players.
It is on BBC red button at 8 on the Friday which is sky channel 980 so you can record it. The on earth on the main channel is highlights. Saturday is 6pm BBC 2
BBC 2 will be showing it next Sunday between 11.15pm (23.15pm) and 00.45am.

Match court needs to be available Monday 9am of the week of the tie, unless 2 identical practice courts are available - then Wednesday 9am is allowed.

Dan and Kyle on facebook live, hitting on the court
edit: now finished but will be put on British Tennis timeline on facebook
After the way, Dan Evans played and who he beat in Sydney and Melbourne, I would expect him to win both his matches (if it came down to one of Sunday's matches). I hope Kyle Edmund will also be able to win and, if he does, I think we will win the tie 3 - 1.

Just read on the BBC website that Andy has not travelled out to Canada. Sophia's 1st Birthday is on Tuesday.
I thought her birthday was early Feb, so didn't expect him to travel out when not playing, though I didn't really expect him to play either. He has played a huge part in the DC and will do against in other ties, for now I'm sure of two things 1) our boys can bring the win home anyway 2)he'll be cheering them on from home. The court did seem fast on the live stream. Guys looked good though

Just seen a lot of Shapovalov on Canadian tv, could he be playing Friday? Draw now confirmed as 12.30 up on parliament hill, no public allowed and will be posted on internet...message just received from tennis Canada via helpful staff at the ticket office
I read, last night, about Leon Smith confirming that Sir Andy wouldn't be playing. It would have been all over by Saturday, if he had (if Jamie and Dom won as well). Hopefully, he's helped Dan and Kyle by phone or Skype, or whatever they use, to win the tie.

I'm actually glad Andy won't be in Canada (in any capacity), far better for him to take a bit of a break at this point and have some family time(his interests come first), though can understand disappointing for those making the trip (even if always a possibility) . In any case as it turns out GB should be able to win the tie without him (whilst not taking it for granted) Let's go Dan, Kyle,Jamie and Dom!

I'm not glad at all. Was really looking forward to seeing him. Haven't seen him play live since his victory in Toronto in 2010. So I am very disappointed - and for Milos too. However my 15 yr old daughter who's coming with me is very excited at seeing Denis in action as she has a major crush on him.

Obviously would've better match up with Andy and Milos there had they been fit/energised, however don't think it was the best time of the year for that. However the Davis Cup schedules are always challenging, see that Djokovic is the only one of the top 14 playing this weekend.
It's been such a long time since Raonic played for Canada, he could probably now apply to represent Montenegro. ;)
