It’s so hard not being there! Liam is playing so well. Would be great if he could nick a set
Argh, I know :sad: miss it so much. Will definitely try and make next tie now that I'm freer work-wise.
Liam so deserves this set - ARV gone into stonewall mode, blargh - c'mon Liam!!!
Ouch.... tb time...:sofa:
:crying::crying::crying: So sad for Liam - he played so well

Well Spain go 1-0 as expected, but certainly not the shellacking it could have been. Liam can be very proud of that debut :clap::clap:

Absolutely! Straight sets but it felt much closer than the score suggests. Really good debut from him, he certainly wasn’t overawed
Such a shame Liam couldn't take a set, he deserved to!
Ugh - Lloydy: "Once Kyle Edmund decided not to play...."

I heard this too. Shame on JL
Liam did himself proud. We always knew it would have been a tough ask.
A really fascinating match. Liam has nothing to regret, he did his very best. So it's game, set and match to Spain in rubber 1, but it's definitely game, set and match to our supporters. Well done everyone. You were brilliant.:clap::clap: I'm sure Liam responded to your support to play at such a high level. Like Caro, I so wish I were there.

Very creditable performance from Liam. Shame he didn't nab that 3rd set but hope it shows him he can perform on a big stage and he can build on it. GB supporters putting the Spaniards to shame, you're doing a great job and spotted many of you on TV. Glad the sun is shining for you :GBflag:

Wooooo Cam breaks. Well done. Ah here's Jamie Baker in the commie's box, no more JL to put up with. Can Chris Bradnam go for a sunbathe and leave it to Jamie

Well done, Cam - he's not afraid to go for his shots, really enjoyed watching him beat Zeballos at Eastbourne last year, his first main tour event. Wasn't phased.

Cameron really was giving RBA some trouble but a few too many errors at crucial time and spaniard took advantage, come on!

Excellent - having lost 7 games in a row, bps for 8th, Cam breaks RBA. Well done lad!
Second set to Spain :crying:
Oh dear! Cammie dropped the first game of the third set - a long, long way back from here.
Cam has heart. I'll give him that. After being used to playing futures and challengers when there are about 3 people watching, this must be quite an experience for Cam. He must love the backing of the Brit supporters. Can only be positive for him whatever the outcome of this tie.
C'mon, Cammie - keep fighting!
Well played, Cam. In front in this set - keep it going.

Well well well!! Would you believe it! If you had told me this morning that I would still be watching tennis at 4.45 I would have thought no! Luckily I was able to change my plans for this afternoon easily. What a reward for the staunch fans who travelled to Spain. Well worth it. And what a way to announce yourself on the big stage a few months after turning pro. This is great stuff.

Omg. First pro match on clay, DC debut, first 5 setter, 2 sets down to a Spaniard in Spain. One of greatest wins I've ever seen!!! I knew he wouldn't be phased but wasn't expecting this - Cam Norrie take a bow (you too Leon) :worship::worship::worship: You know Andy will be loving it too. Team GB forever!!!

Awesome win from Cameron Norrie and he certainly take confidence from that moving forward, battle for tie well and truly on even if Kyle does not play. Still immediate task is to move ahead with Jamie/Dom!
:grouphug: everybody! Isn't this amazing! Words are failing me! What a treat! Makes the doubles as pivotal as ever. Will give Jamie and Dom a big lift. Well done again all you guys in Spain. You really played your part. Great to see some familiar faces.

Isn't DC just fabulous and what an amazing ethos and effort there is in TeamGB. Whatever Leon does, I wish we could bottle it and keep it forever. The belief he has instilled in them is brilliant. Safe to say Cameron Norrie you have arrived in the pro-tennis world.
An additional thought regarding the proposal to drop to best of 3 sets in DC, while I understand where that comes from, what a loss of drama and excitement it would mean......and Cam would have lost today if it was best of 3. DC is all about the excitement, passion, twists & turns and today proved that.
So glad I took the day off to watch today. Go TeamGB :GBflag::GBflag::GBflag:
Just watching now. I had to walk the dog, so I put it on live pause. Watching from 2:1 up in 5th. I love watching knowing the outcome. Was following on live scores. Have been watching most of the day. Agree Liam did incredible well.
Wow! Wow!! Wow!!!:dance::dance::GBflag::bravo::yahoo::yahoo: :yahoo: What an amazing day of tennis. I thought it would be so one-side - how wrong was I? Many. many congratulations to Cam - he may never, ever have another day like this in his DC career - a fabulous, fabulous win! Jamie & Dom stand an excellent chance of winning the doubles. I wonder how Kyle's hip is feeling? If we win the dubs, we really are in with a chance of winning the tie. The Spanish must be feeling a bit rattled tonight
I'm still rooted to the spot. Haven't moved since end of match. Stunned! In a nice way! This feeling reminds me of how I felt when Andy became #1 and James Ward's win in Glasgow all rolled into one.

There's only one Cameron Norrie.

If we win the doubles I wouldnt be surprised to see PCB and Ferrer drafted in for the singles, given that RBA seems to be carrying an injury and ARV wasnt very convincing against Liam.
Oh my goodness .... I still can’t believe that match! Kept waking up last night thinking about the doubles today, soooo exciting!! I hold my hands up, I was NOT expecting that yesterday and I am always so positive. In the 4th set though I really started to believe. Wow, just wow, wow, wow!! Both boys acquitted themselves so well but obviously Cam was outstanding. Has to be the best DC debut by any player ever surely?!
This is why I love DC so much and 5 set tennis. How can anyone not be addicted to that atmosphere and passion? And yet people still say that Andy shouldn’t play. I could never agree with that, another DC title would mean just as much as another GS.

Not going so well, though had a few mini chances to get back into first-now down 3-1 in 2nd. Hopefully particularly Dom steps up-come on Jamie/Dom! If the spanish had been that enthusiastic more would've taken leave yesterday, though obviously suited GB.

There weren't very many empty seats yesterday (or that's how it looked on TV). I think the difference is that the Spanish thought they would waltz through yesterday so didn't bother making much noise, whereas GB supporters are always up for it. The Spaniards have realised they need to up the noise level today

Disappointing but by no means over yet, Jamie making some great returns now but Dom still misfiring somewhat-hopefully that changes in set 3. The spaniards were still made to work for the 2nd as could've been more decisive for them. Easy hold from Inglot-come on!

Far better this set but gutsy hold from Jamie there for 6-5 under pressure, Carreno Busta missed opportunity though.

Spaniards more inspired thus far in TB unfortunately and up 5-1, come on!
Just never got in to the match sadly. Such a let down after yesterday! I thought it would be a LOT closer today

Such a shame. Always thought this match was our best chance of getting a rubber on the board, and surprised it was straight sets. Dom just not on top form today especially in the first 2 sets :crying:
JAMES4578
03-02-2018, 15:45
What a pity, Jamie/Dom just couldn't find a way to break through in the 3rd and the relatively slow start didn't help. Jamie got going but wasn't best from Dom. Nonetheless Spain were pretty strong throughout and Lopez certainly particularly impressive with Carreno Busta playing his part. Disappointing after euphoria of yesterday, need to see if Kyle will be able to play but an uphill task now.
A bit of an anti-climax after yesterday's heroics but the Spaniards were just better today. The tie is still alive though - who knows, we could have more heroics tomorrow.

Just didn't play well enough, to be frank. Shame. We needed this one.
A shame, but they were beaten by the better players on the day.
That was tense! Not to be but I guess we never expected we were going to win this tie anyway, so it's still looking like the play-off in September. Nonetheless in true DC style, we have had great entertainment this weekend with more to come tomorrow.
It is a pity because Jamie hasn't been playing well recently and could have done with a good win here to boost his confidence. For whatever reason Dom just didn't come to the party until the latter stages. It does make you realise just how much Andy has contributed to the doubles in recent years.

Lloyds just said a Lloydy. Remarked on how the Spanish team needed a good crowd yesterday and they had been just like it is at home in Britain.
Think he meant that the gb fans were making more noise than the spanish, as if the tie was being played in britain.

Clay doesnt suit dom's game, it neutralises his power somewhat, but he didnt have his a game with him. Lopez hardly dropped a point on serve. He could even play singles if required tomorrow.
Interesting to see how Leon will try to rejig things to try and turn this around.

Fraser saying if Kyle plays the 1st match, Cam can't replace Liam in the 5th match. If he is fit to play Leon has got a bit of a dilemma

Wasn’t expecting anything from this tie except maybe the doubles. Cam and Liam have done brilliantly, unfortunately now I feel this was a missed opportunity. 1-1 after the first day and Inglot didn’t start playing til it was too late. Really we should be going to a 5th rubber potentially with Kyle.
For the future though we have a brilliant squad now. Broady obviously a good doubles player as well. We’ve got the best doubles player in the world (in my opinion) in Jamie, Andy coming back, Kyle who’s just made a slam semi and is now top 30, looking at Cam he looks top 50 at least and a great big match performer and last but not least broady who is coming up as well
JAMES4578

Certainly proud of Cameron and a great effort from team Gb, indeed a few points were key and amazing how well Norrie played and tactical awareness was really impressive with so little experience on clay courts. By taking positives future could well be bright, again just a pity doubles didn't go the way we hoped.

He is a really exciting player who's just coming into his own.
Exciting times maybe for Team GB - who knows what might happen if Andy rejoins the squat and there's all this talent!

Ironic isn't it. Before the tie started I thought the dubs was our best chance of a point and the dubs often turns out to be the best match of the tie, but it actually turned out to be the most disappointing match both from the result itself and the match-play.
