Today started off sunny but now complete cloud cover and it feels chilly!!
Beautiful - blue sky and turquoise sea - wish I could say it was always like this!
Rain, rain and more rain in West Yorkshire today!!
Bit of inclement weather in these parts you could say! Irene just skirted where I live so we only got some outer bands from it- driving rain and crazy wind, but happily we needed the rain so no flash flooding or anything. I'm pretty sure the air now weighs more than I do and we have very low, dark clouds hanging out. Once the system moves more northward, we'll have the most beautiful weather imaginable behind it.
I've been going to the beach to check out the surf and man the Atlantic is wild right now. I'm hoping the storm surge from this system isn't too bad- the islands in the Carolinas don't need that!

Yup. A journey that normally takes me 1hr 45mins has just taken 3hrs..... torretial rain, minor bumps causing hold ups and peeps driving more slowly.

I've been up the railway inside the mountain and up to the observatory on the col between those 2 peaks in your piccy. The ice station is incredible as is the station inside the North Face.

Your brother is probably seeing the same crazy surf we're getting here. Hopefully people have the sense to stay out of the ocean!

I thought as much. I used to go ski-ing there, stayed in Wengen and used the trains to get up Kleine Scheidegg to hit the ski runs. I loved it there - especially ski-ing to some of the mountain restaurants and having hot apple fritters!!!

There were tons of skiers there when I went. I was jealous but as I was traveling solo resisted the urge. Such a lovely place; I felt like I was in a living postcard haha
We had a tornado watch t'other night but nowt happened where we were staying. Instead, it happened at home. Weird!!!

A glorious sunny September day today
The weather here was quite nice today, if a bit on the cool side. My daughter and her husband took off for Corsica this morning and she sent a text to say they had been diverted to Rome as weather very bad in Corsica - there is always someone worse off.

Sunny here today but there is definitely a smell of autumn in the air.
Bit cold and windy and sunny same time.
It's been raining hard the last couple of hours and got a lot colder!!!
Cloudy all day with strong winds that kept the rain away. However it rained this evening for a while. Temperature definitely dropping each night.
Hmmm, I think the Eastern Atlantic seaboard is still feeling the after effects of Hurricane Irene passing and there is another one on it's way.
She's Hurricane Katia, set to become a category 4 in 9hrs time, she's currently about 900miles from the USA out in the Atlantic.
However, Katia is projected to pass up between Bermuda (300miles away and probably on red alert) and NYC (400miles) in 3 days time (Friday) and still be a #2 or ##1 by then so that is likely to create some stormy weather.
If you look at Katia's track she veers due East by Sunday 11th - and heads towards Europel. Unlikely to be a Hurricane by the time she reaches our side of the pond but could bring bad weather this time next week.

Just looked out the window. No skyscrapers. So probably not. Just got their weather.
Windy and wet earlier. Brightened up a little this afternoon. Not a bad evening so far.

Well - the wind has dropped this morning so I really hope we manage to get a ferry in today. We've have no ferries for the last two days and, as we never have a delivery on a Sunday anyway, fresh produce is non-existent in the local Co-op. We might be down to a diet of whisky and tablet soon - oh the joys of island living!!
Oooh, looks like many of us are in for a reappearance of summer later this week! Had to double take when I saw the forecast temps for Wed/Thurs/Fri, 24 C in Leeds!!

Another gloriously hot day today spent in garden. Was quite happy to come inside to watch Andy win his match. Then out again with books,iced fruit juice and sunglasses. Wonderful!!

Baking hot here today - it reached 29.9 in the shade according to our electronic thermometer-thingy in the garden. Phew!

We've had rain and wind and cool temps for four days in a row. No end in sight. Depressing. And our poor tomatoes are not getting any sun so are withering away.
It's been gorgeous here all week with scorching temperatures but today it has rained constantly.

Think Mr HFW is harvesting as I type - well I hope he is - it has been dry for 2 days and the wind is drying things up - whether the barley is ripening properly or not is another matter but we're at the stage of cutting it whether it's fully ripe or not :grrr: Hopefully we'll manage to get a lot of it done the next few days as we're meant to get dry weather .... but I shan't hold my breath .... cos it could :rain:

Complete change in the weather. Much cooler, overcast, and very slight rain (I think the forecasters these days call it 'mizzle'). Not too wet for a good ball game over the park with the dog, though!

It's staying dry where I am (about 20miles from Heathrow) but it's very windy again and I suspect that'll blow in some of the rain the rest of you have! It's getting cooler too but I don't mind that 'cos crisp Autumn weather is my favourite - and I don't have to go anywhere either ......

We have had horrendous gale-force winds early evening and rain was lashing down. It was forecast but wouldn't mind a change tomorrow.
Another bright sunny day, but was very windy at around 5pm. Seems to have died down again now.
ETA - I spoke to soon, I can hear the wind getting up again now!

Been a lovely sunny day today, clear blue sky, and all the washing dried really quickly. But when I took Dantie for a long walk along the beach (and I had to walk it twice because I dropped her lead and had to go back looking for it :shamed:) there were a few spots of rain - I couldn't believe it 'cos it was so bright and sunny that even tho' my glasses had gone dark I was still completely dazzled - and there was a rainbow!

I can't sleep without a window open so my bedroom is always baltic!
My windows don't shut properly so I've no choice! But I do prefer to have a window open anyway.
HUMPH - don't mention weather - I'm off to Portugal tomorrow and it looks like I'm due for wall to wall rain.........Mr P has been out there for a week of glorious sunshine - knew this would happen when I arrived! :grrr:

Torrential rain and gale force winds - no ferries today!
Worst rain I've seen in ages!! Had to skip a few lectures because I was quite literally soaked to the skin even though i was wearing a jacket, hoody and t shirt and had an umbrella! All my books are currently drying on the radiator....so I can't study and finally have time to come on here for a while :) Every cloud...:)

We are - the sun came out about 2hrs ago but it was very overcast to begin with spots of rain.
It's been very mild (as with you) and yesterday afternoon it was about 16 degrees!

Terrible fog driving back from the O2 Sunday night - it took three hours to get home (although I also gave a lift to someone who lives in Steyning, and there was a big diversion due to the A23 being closed). Finally got home exhausted gone 2.30am.

I thought I was missing my scarves and hats but found them in a big shopper under my bed a couple of days ago. Soon be time to don the berets and cossack hat - and gloves. Just bought some new thermal ones and funky replacements for my 'moonboots' which gave up the ghost after the last 2 winters and heavy snow! I found these (http://www.khombu.com/kids/#prev) in Costco in kids size 3 (which fit my size 4 feet!!!) @ £16.99 which is a bargain!

I read that parts of the North of England and Scotland are on 'amber' alert and a there's a warning of hurricane force winds! The islands are likely to take a battering - hope the Hebrideans amongst us have battened down the hatches!

Where my brother lives they cop the hurricane season and they usually have a couple of days a year where the island is completely closed. Everyone boards up windows, stows garden stuff, all public places are closed and you have to have good reason for being outside. It isn't quite a curfew; police and army patrols are there mostly to make sure people get to their homes safely but you'd be daft to want to stay outside in that sort of weather anyway.

A few years back, after 'lockdown', a woman lost her life driving across the causeway to the airport during a hurricane which took out a chunk of the road and surrounding support structure. She really shouldn't have been out there ...

Or Aberdeenshire - we've had a spate of lead thefts up here over the summer/autumn - including the church roof and village hall and school - one house was done twice in a month. As church treasurer I was NOT impressed at having to fork out rather a lot of money to replace a perfectly good roof - and as they were spotted and were actually driving a sports car at the time ... :shocked: .... I think the police know exactly who was responsible but need the necessary evidence :rolleyes:

Extremely windy today but otherwise a lovely sunny autumn day.
This morning I went out to rescue the cover from our gas bottles that had blown off during the night - it's a rectangular piece of metal about 1m x 2m. As I picked it up it, the wind caught it and me, lifted us up into the air and deposited us both in the middle a flower bed - not very dignified but very amusing according to my husband who was watching from the kitchen window! Luckily I escaped with only bruises and wounded pride!

Roads are a total nightmare - snow followed by frost is NEVER a good combination ..... off out to see the Christmas lights switched on in the village tonight - am adding lots of layers .... at least they're serving soup and butteries after - yum!

Had to bring the rabbit into the sitting room cos he was NOT happy out in the porch - can't say I blame him - the wind was whistling through the crack in the door! :cold:

I think the whole country's in for gale force winds tonight - the wind is already getting up. Glad I didn't bother to prop up the clematis-covered trellis that got blown over the other day as it would just blow over again!
