Many thanks to Roytennisfan who originally posted the following notes here (https://www.andymurrayfanforum.com/forums/showthread.php?4993-Emma-Raducanu&p=299281&viewfull=1#post299281)as an introduction to Emma Raducanu after she'd won her R2 match.

In R1 Emma was up against 30year old Qualifier Vitalia Diatchenko of Russia, WR150.

Emma is 18 years old, playing in the Wimbledon main draw with a WC.

Today she played (and beat) her first top 100 player, hitting Vondrousova all around the Court in a dominating 6-2 6-4 R2 win.

In R3 she faces the similarly ranked Sorana Cirstea who beat Azarenka today.
Can Emma win another round?

Definitely one to watch. Her wins so far have raised her (live) ranking 100 places to currently #233. Emma appears to be a very exciting prospect for British tennis; obviously still early days but massive potential.

Emma was a break down but took the 1st set 7'6(4) over Diatchenko.

http://www.andymurrayfanforum.com/images/smileys/yahoo.gif
Emma Raducanu wins 7'6(4), 6'0. It's only her 2nd match on the main WTA Tour!

Great Grand Slam debut for her and justification for that main draw Wildcard. She was originally given a WC into Qualifying but her performance in the Nottingham ITF merited an upgrade from Mr Wimbledon. Well done Wimbers!

I saw Emma on the Wirral when she was 15, and it was lovely to see how she's come along having played relatively little tennis in the intervening years. I'm not sure if she's even properly turned pro yet. Jeremy Bates was around then and it seems as if he's still on the coaching team. She just seemed like a well balanced kid, quite innocent and fun.
Good luck to her.

Emma has now broken Cirstea twice and held her own service games to love for a lead of 5-3. Cirstea serving to stay in the set *0-30, 15-30, 15-40.

She really is playing good tennis against Sorana Cirstea, the WR45 player who had a CH of #21 in 2013.

Pity for Emma, just hope nothing too serious but seemed in some difficulty. The closing stages of the 1st set quite intense but Tomljanovic able to win the ket points under pressure. Sabalenka was the most extended but reached her first Grand Slam quarter final, Ash Barty impressed after being tested by Krejcikova in the first though the czech does not have a great deal of experience on grass (in singles anyway). Kerber had an easier time than I expected but found her form here.

Emma changes her coaching team, will head to the USA with her former junior coach, Andrew Richardson, instead of Nigel Sears.
Article in Daily Telegraph behind a paywall but extract here.

Change of tack, coach-wise, for Wimbledon's break-out star Emma Raducanu. She'll leave for the USA at the weekend with Andrew Richardson - one of the people who originally established the basics of her game - rather than the more experienced Nigel Sears

FWIW, I saw Andrew Richardson play Davis Cup at Crystal Palace against Zimbabwe back in the day (1997)! He beat Byron Black in 5 tough sets and was the hero of the hour.

Emma has just won her R1 match 7-6 6-2 against a player ranked about 60 places higher. I watched quite a lot of this match and was intrigued by their differing attitudes to poor line calling. Emma argued with the umpire at 3-3 in tiebreak (could have been 4-2) but then won 4 of the next 5 points. Her opponent was already a break down in second set, disputed a call, muttered a bit and Emma eventually got the double break and served for the match.

I was trying to watch on Bet365, but although there is a "play" button nothing happens. Maybe no cameras on that court - pictures from Cincy are OK.

Bet365 I think only streams when a match is actually being played - and stops immediately one is finished. Emma's match is on now and I discovered a few days ago that they now have a button on screen to make it full screen which used to be difficult to do.

I was actually trying to watch the match before Emma, but there was no picture - perhaps because there was no British interest.

Tauson gets heckled a bit by some fan, exchanges a few words, responds by nailing the baseline for a winner, then gives a tight nod and glares daggers in the fan's direction. Despite Tauson's excellent shot placement, Raducanu breaks, is serving up 3-2 third.

Despite the loss the results this week are encouraging for her ranking.
All the following from Steven on Twitter:-

The new WTA singles rankings confirm that Emma is now a top 150 player after making the Chicago WTA 125 final :-) - she rises 24 places to exactly 150 and from GB no. 5 to GB no. 3, though Harriet Dart is just 1 place/2 points behind her.

The GB top two are getting closer too, with Heather up 5 at 62 :-) but Johanna only just holding onto a place in the top 50, down 11 at 47 as last year's Cincy-in-NY SF points come off.

From Mike Dickson on Twitter:

Sarah Sorribes Tormo is ranked 41 and won 29 matches this year.
She's just been totally outclassed by Emma Raducanu, through to last 16 of US Open
for loss of one game. One of the more extraordinary performances I've seen from a GB player.
From JeuSetMaths (https://twitter.com/JeuSetMaths) some Stats:

The first US Open of Emma Raducanu WR150:
Q1 beats Schoofs (285) 6/1 6/2
Q2 beats Bolkvadze (167) 6/3 7/5
Q3 beats Sherif (96) 6/1 6/4
R1 beats Voegele (128) 6/2 6/3
R2 beats Zhang (49) 6/2 6/4
R3 beats Sorribes Tormo (41) 6/0 6/1
2.3 games conceded on average per set

From Steven on Twitter:

I think it's fair to say that Emma Raducanu has already had the best first year in slam main draws for a British woman for 64 years, since 16-year-old Christine Truman lost in R1 at Roland Garros but then made the Wimbledon SFs and R3 at the US Open in 1957

Also, for those who like more obscure stats, I have found another British woman (there may yet be more) who won at least 3 matches in each of their first two slam main draws - Maud Watson, who won the first two slams ever held (Wimbledon 1884 & 1885)

Wow. Wow. Wow. So impressive. Another match in which Emma wins 11 games in a row and she wasn't even at her very best. She takes the ball soooooo early, suffocates opponents who get increasingly panicked. Love her play, she's relentless :clap::clap:
