Mawnin'. Just watching the Robson match. Feel like hitting her. She doesn't seem to either anticipate or move - does she think every ball should come to her? When you watch somebody like Andy or Heather who will run everything down, this really annoys me. I know she's young but her serious training must surely start sometime soon. It's almost like it's beneath her to run.

Well it didn't do Heather any good she only won one game, but i know what you mean, to me she had no fight in her, you either have it our you dont. LOTS to work on.

At least I'll be able to organise my sleep more easily!

And out goes Laura. Thought Jankevic was very irritable today.

well I only got in at the start of the second set - JJ didn't seem cranky to me (compared to the hissy fits we fans are used to seeing)... Laura was more angsty and JJ was just business like but I can imagine she might have been more vocal in the first set.

I don't think laura can blame growth spurts for not moving her legs anymore... and that's what makes Heather more watchable (and dare I say it, more loveable) ...

I think the commies were right - Laura needs to perhaps start playing towards the main tour more if she wants to succeed.

Jankovic took her irritation out on the ball kids in the first set - they weren't fast enough with getting the balls to her, in her opinion.

Oh she is absolutely SHOCKING with ball kids. I love her dearly as a fan but I want to slap her silly when she acts like that!

I know - I decided to stick with Nalby/Neim (which has just ended with a retirement) so now finally back to some women's tennis...

Nalbandian through 6'4, 4'2, ret'd (Nieminen).
No surprise really. Jarkko won the delayed Sydney Final on Sunday morning, then played the doubles Final there which he and his partner lost to the Bryans. Then he had to travel to Melbourne and sort himself out for the evening match against Nalby.

A most disappointing day for the Brits, felt all could have performed better (though of course couldn't see the matches on court11) and thought that at least Elena would have been in the 2nd round.

Hello everyone I'm back lol. Finally registered. Mainly to try and see if anyone knows if the BBC will be covering andy's matches! I've emailed them but don't expect a prompt reply and they aren't showing anything before the semis this year which is terrible in comparison with previous years. Apologies for the rubbish and unoriginal sig by the way but it was the best I could do with the restrictions :P

Hi Dewster - glad to see you've found your way to the forum!
:welcome:

Sadly, it seems that what you've surmised appears to be correct - minimal coverage from the Beeb of the AO. No-one has so far found any better information than that. A lot of people have signed up for a Eurosport streaming service (costs £'s).

Yes, you can subscribe to Eurosport Player for a month and cancel any time you want.

If you forget you unsubscribe does it automatically take out money and make you subscribe for the next month? If so please can someone remind me to unsubscribe if I can see how?
Also do they show highlights or re-runs of any matches? Missed Tomic match....

the down side of eurosports is of course they have a tendency to show ladies tennis a lot which is i suppose is natural as that's their main product on that channel(tennis wise)

Gilles Simon is struggling against Udomchoke - just gone into a 5th set.
Tsonga is a set up v Istomin
Benneteau 2 sets up v Karol Beck.
Roddick is through.
Troicki has dropped the first set to JC Ferreiro.

And all Melbourne cheers as Lleyton Hewitt takes the first set on a tie-break over Cedrik Stebe.

JAMES4578

Simon went through safely enough 6-2 in the 5th but certainly a tough match! Both Lleyton and Ferrero are 2 sets up whilst Tsong is 2-1 up. Of course huge disappointment that Stosur went out earlier in the women's event.

Sallydaisy
17-01-2012, 12:09
Troicki has found his mojo ... he was down 0-2 but levelled it to 2 sets apiece.
JCF is now serving at *2-5 to stay in the match.

Hewitt lost the 3rd set but Stebe is now serving to stay in the match at 5-6 down in the 4th set.

EDIT: Hewitt prevails, bet the RLA has gone bonkers, and Troicki through also.

Must say from what I saw yesterday, Rafa and Fed appear to be on top form. Sounds like Nole is too. Andy needs to get his act together - serve awful today.

They were playing much lower-ranked opponents though. Andy's the only one who had a potentially tough opponent - and Harrison really did play well. I agree about Andy's serve, though I think that's something that will improve once he settles into the tournament.

Alis
17-01-2012, 13:07
I usually make a point of not listening to anything that Rusedski says but, interestingly, he commented on the fact that he thought Andy was trying different things with his serve today, things that he felt Andy and Lendl had been working on - if that's the case it could well have contributed to the low serve percentage.

Fish loses to Falla - I think we all got first one out right in 10 Men Tumbling!

Rafa serving for 1st set.

Can't understand why Colin & Ross aren't on yet - they are second on court 10, and the match before them (a women's doubles) is only in the second set! I wonder what the holdup was? ETA - I see from the schedule that court 10 was starting 2 hours later than other courts!

Rafa went walkabout for a bit and got broken. Finally takes the set 6-4.

btw Delgado & Marray lost to Fyrstenberg & Matkowski.

The ladies' doubles on court 10 has at last finished so Colin & Ross should be on soon.

Rafa takes the second set 6-3. Haas has been putting up a really good fight.

Colin & Ross match just started, they serving first.

Del Potro wins 6-4, 7-6, 6-3

Commies have just said that Fed has a walkover

And Haas breaks in the opening game of the third set!

Oh no, Schiavone is out!

Not only is Rafa a break down, but so are Colin & Ross

Just realised that Laura's dubs match is in progress too, one set all.

Rafa has the break back :)

And Colin & Ross also have the break back, 5-5 :)

And now they've taken the first set 7-5 :)

Laura & partner serving to stay in the match

Rafa wins 6-4, 6-3, 6-4. :) Tommy getting a great round of applause from the crowd, he played really well.

Laura is out of the dubs.

Isner got the first break against Nalbandian, but Nalby has broken back and broken again. Vamos!

A real tussle with Isner and Nalby but Big John took it 10-8 in the 5th! Seen it from set 2 to 4 before I had to leave for work when Isner took the 4th on the breaker to force the decider. Of course somehow Fed seems to get his share of the walkovers!

Sorry to see Nalby go out but wasn't sure what happened in that last game before the last one when he seemed to get really worked up about a call. Wonder what state Isner will be in for his next match though. And Dolly two five setters - that has top take it out of you so early on.

Sad that Nalby lost, he definitely had his chances in the fifth set but couldn't put the ball in when it really mattered. Credit to Isner though, he was having problems with cramp but still managed to come through -I guess that Wimbledon match was good training! ;)

Pleased that Tomic and Dolgopolov won - that's going to be some match in the next round!

I saw what happened and I thought it was totally unfair on Nalby. The umpire wouldn't allow him to challenge as he deemed it too late but I have seen umpteen players go and look at the mark and then challenge! It was on a break point and even the commies were saying that he should have been allowed to challenge!! He got worked up about it and spent a few mins talking to a court side official about it, during which time, Isner caught his breath and regrouped. Cost him the match IMO.

Yes, it was such a crucial point for Nalby (break point on Isner's serve) that many feel that technology should have decided it. However he must have exceeded the time allowed by seconds and this particular umpire was a stickler for the rules! Felt sorry for Nalby.

patmoren
18-01-2012, 10:53
Nalby did seem to take an awful long time looking and the line, then shrugged and started to walk away then put his hand up to challenge as though he had seconds thoughts , might as well challenge seeing as the umpire had over-ruled the linesman.

Madeline
18-01-2012, 12:06
To be fair to the umpire, he waited a good while while Nalby looked at the mark from several angles (as players are wont to do), and the umpire called the score back to deuce in accordance with his overrule. Only then did Nalby ask to challenge. Harsh, but strictly correct not to allow it. Really it is the fault of all the other umpires for NOT applying the rules properly.

I think however if I had been the umpire at such a point, and considering it was my overrule causing the problem, I would have allowed the challenge.

Linda
18-01-2012, 12:16
I didn't see it myself but I've been reading other reports, blogs etc. of the incident and everyone seems to think that Nalby was robbed. Here's a typical comment:
The serve was clearly out. No question about that. Nalby had break point against Isner and everyone knows how hard it is to come by one. Nalby couldn't hear amidst the noise of the crowd, so he didn't realize that the chair umpire overruled the call. Then once he realized what happened, of course he wanted to challenge. Why on earth the chair umpire didn't let him challenge is beyond me. What is the point of having a challenge system if you don't allow the player to use it? Especially with the match on the line.

Golden Lady
18-01-2012, 12:22
Couldn't agree more with that comment you quoted Linda. Nalby was definitely robbed, the whole match as on the line and under the circumstances, the umpire should have allowed the challenge and let technology decide the outcome.

It was unfortunate for Nalby - but he didn't help himself, from what I've seen he played some dumb tennis at the end when he had the chances to take the match

I'm with the umpire on this one - good for Haider Nouni that's what I say - I wish more umpires stood up to the players.
He quite clearly explained to nalby what had happened and asked him if he wanted to challenge the overrule. It's a simple question and only needs a one word answer.
Instead of answering, Nalby just walks around gawping at the line. Nouni gives him plenty of time and then calls the score, it's only after that that Nalby decides he wants to challenge and goes off on one. Too late. Tough. Get on with it.
I'm no fan of Isner's brand of tennis but Nalby really only has himself to blame for losing this match

Caro

Precisely this kind of controversy (albeit in MUCH lesser tournaments with no hawkeye or even a full set of line judges) that made me decide I was not cut out to be an umpire and I gave it up. It's so much responsibility on your shoulders if you get it wrong and you have to live with the possibility that you may have wrongly determined the outcome of a match!!

I usually make a point of not listening to anything that Rusedski says but, interestingly, he commented on the fact that he thought Andy was trying different things with his serve today, things that he felt Andy and Lendl had been working on - if that's the case it could well have contributed to the low serve percentage.
I have said before that we have to be careful not to let our feelings about Rusedski colour our attitude to everything he says and that the one thing he really DOES know about is serving. That is very interesting as several of us also wondered during the Harrison match whether Andy's forehand was suffering for similar reasons.

I did not see this but I saw Andy's conditions yesterday - very hot - and I have also heard Andy saying he has in tough matches actually lost count of the games in a set due to being focused on playing rather than scoring, if you see what I mean.
Nalby might have taken a while to "snap out of a haze" he was in. The fact it was an overrule does make it a bit different, it seems to me.
Of course, what most people want with any umpiring is consistency. The "good on you, you showed the others what should be done" argument falls a bit thin when related to points which involve overrule and are critical to a match. Set an example withsomebody serving with a double break and 40-0 up!

Absolutely spot on! Have watched it a few times now and there certainly appears to be extenuating circumstances. Nalbandian did not appear to be just dawdling over it. It is consistency that is required. Your last paragraph sums it up perfectly. A very unfortunate time to decide to take such action.

rondun
18-01-2012, 20:27
Exactly -it's only because it was a vital point in the match that we're talking about it. If it had been 40-0 and a double break up nobody would care.
I agree it's consistency that's needed and that consistency should be when any umpire asks a player if they want to challenge they should immediately answer yes or no. Not look at their box, or the line, or the ball.
But it's probably more likely that Kader Nouni will apologise to Nalby than than that is to happen

On Sky news, it's reported that a relpay showed the serve was out and Kader Nounie had no business to overrule in the first place and anyone watching that match could see it was a wrong decision, he was so wrong. Having seen the 5th set now I must say that I'm on Nalby's side. Whilst of course he could have made the decision straight away it was all in the heat of the battle and I don't think the delay was unacceptable on this occasion. At this junction imo it was the wrong judgement call, though I suppose it was difficult for the referee to overrule Nouni.

Do we like to winge? Or do we just say it like it is. Has anyone on here read Roger Federer: Quest for Perfection by Rene Stauffer? This is a book by a Fedfan, but he is quite honest. When he talks about Fed as a junior aged about 17 he tells of his terrible racquet-smashing rages. He tells of how Fed didn't like to practice and ignored his coaches and his parents. He tells of how Fed didn't think he should have to play in low level tournaments with no spectators, although it was required by the federation that gave him funding. In one of these tournaments he showed his displeasure by just standing on the baseline and doing nothing, and deliberately double faulting his serves. He was fined for lack of effort but it didn't change his attitude. But during this time of course various people were noting his talent and he was getting interviewed regularly. In one interview, when asked to describe himself, he calmly answered: "I'm honest. I'm cool. I'm athletic and likeable, and pleasant" - despite being well known for his rages.

Monfils dropped the first set to Bellucci 2'6 but took the 2nd 6'0 and is a break up in the 3rd at 5-3 with Bellucci serving to stay in it.

Benneteau is 2 sets up on compatriot and 12th seed Gilles Simon!!! 7'5, 7'6(8).
Gilles now has a double break up in the 3rd set though and will be serving at *4-1.

Roddick took the first set 6'3 but Rusty Hewitt is fighting back in set 2 and is serving at *2-0.

Certainly a good win kukushkin somewhat against the odds! Looks like LLeyton is making a match of this, which would be good to see! Monfils should go through now, though may still be a struggle for Simon.

Yes that's a very good win for Kukushkin!

I see that Roddick took a MTO, hope he's ok. Hope Gilles wins, though I'm not too confident!

Monfils is through.

Hewitt has gone through against Roddick 3'6, 6'3, 6'4.
Arod had a MTO during the 2nd set and must have retired although it doesn't yet say so on LS.

The Muppet show is in full swing on Court 6.
Gilles Simon levelled the match to 2-2 by taking the 4th set but Benneteau leads 6'2 in the 5th.
Simon is now serving to stay in the match.

0951 TENNIS: Britain's Anne Keothavong on Twitter: "Lost an epic doubles match but it was good fun playing with Mona."

Phew! Thought for a moment a Brit (apart from Andy) might actually be concerned about losing a tennis match but as long as it was good fun.......

I think Judy should send Anne, Elena, Heather and Laura off to Bootcamp, I mean, a week's training alongside Andy and Mr Lendl and the team. Seven days left and counting. Last two standing are in the Fed Cup team.....

Or give each of them an application interview for the Fed Cup team - just make the interviewer Mr Lendl. If they come through that they should be good for a few wins :)

Pity Roddick had to pull out then as I'm sure Hewitt would have wanted to earn the win, but looks like Lleyton was in some form, though onviously A Rod was hampered. Just hasn't gone the Brits way in the doubles either really, though of course Colon and Ross still there.

Bad news, the tv coverage tonite doesn't start till 11 p.m. so will have to watch Rafa's match on computer. Bummer.

Weird thing is he's gone a break up despite clearly being in pain! Tomic played an awful 5th game to give up the break and now Dolly has dished up a love game after the MTO.

The commies were saying it's unfair for the MTO be televised because the oppo can see the big screen and know exactly what is going on and how much pain the other player is in.

Anyhow - Dolly breaks again and has gone 5-2 up and will serve for the 4th set despite it all.
Tomic perhaps lost concentration?

I really enjoyed that match! In the end, I didn't want either guy to lose - they both play very interesting tennis and it's refreshing to see so much variety in their games.

Tomic v Federer is going to be very interesting - Federer often struggles with the changes of pace Andy puts on the ball so perhaps he'll struggle a bit against Tomic too? Expect him to come through but hope he gets tested a bit. He's got a very tough draw - Tomic followed most probably by Del Potro!

Madeline
20-01-2012, 12:25
I like both of them, but I think Tomic might have a better chance against Fed as he is more composed and not so flashy. It's nice to see two up-and-coming players who are not ball-bashers!

david1610

Del Potro either played a very weak opponent today or puliverised him (or both, I suppose!). Just wonder how much energy Tomic will have left. Roger's match was mainly mutual serving practice - I half watched most of it and not many rallies to drain any energy!

Quite agree. A very interesting and enjoyable match to watch. But as usual the commentators couldnt resist having a dig about Andy and the "Harry Enfield teenager" although they did say he had been almost absent of late as you wouldnt be able to beat any of the top three in succession behaving that way. I thought Andy had already done this and does anyone know if Djokovich has had to beat Nadal and Federer in successive matches and done it?

Oh dear - I've taken a dislike to Tomic today for no real rational reasons. I suppose I resent that he's so much younger than Andy and is getting so much support from the commies etc compared to what Andy has had to endure. Plus.......I don't know.........somehow there's just a glimmer of the makings of a Fed. He's 19 with a gf who's a former model and he has a cocky look to him. I sense a celeb in the ascendancy, compared to "normal" Andy. Nice at interview though. I just prefer Dolly - he's a delight to watch, gets on with the job and has a sort of joy about him that's hard to resist.
I'm probably being really harsh on Tomic - might change my mind if he puts Fed in his place!

I quite like watching Tomic; he reminds me more of a young Andy Murray than a young Federer that's for sure. He stayed very calm in the last set of the match today and it was the manner of his winning - not being afraid - that reminded me of Andy's giant killing matches when he too was a young, somewhat brasher, 19yr old.

Nothing is going to stop the idiot commies from nagging on about some of Andy's negative behaviour - and if we're honest we'll all admit to having a bit of a groan at some of Muzzah's on-court antics!!! But for me that's part of what made me want to watch his every match - he didn't conform and he plays some of the most watchable tennis out there.

So that's why I'm starting to like watching Tomic - and Dolly too for that matter - because they're from a different mold to the rest, as was Andy. Neither of them are ball bashers and, as Katie posted earlier, I didn't want either guy to lose today and I could have watched another 5 sets of what they were serving up. It was interesting tennis and for an inveterate fan it was good fun!

Have to say that I know I've seen Tomic play live at least once, possibly way back at Surbiton and/or Nottingham and I thought he was a bit of a brat but then he'd have only been 16 and a lot of them behave like 'Kevin's' at that age ...
;)

Anyhow, he's playing R1 Mixed Doubles tomorrow, with Jelena Jankovic on showcourt 2, so won't get a 'day-off'. It'll either be his 'practice' session for the day or really wear him out ahead of playing Feddykins. Somehow I don't think he'll be worn out at all - adrenalin and the Aussie crowd will probably keep him going!

Linda

Talking of bad umpire decisions, did you see that Nalby was fined $8,000 for throwing a water bottle in the direction of the ump who made that terrible decision that probably cost him the match? (The bottle didn't hit him.) About 10 times what Baggy was fined for smashing up 4 racquets on court.

-J-

Sallydaisy
20-01-2012, 21:55
Baggy's exploits with his 4 racquets are 'smashing' records on you tube .....
;)
He only got fined about £1500 I think? Will look it up.
Actually, it was much less .......

Marcos Baghdatis’s rage has become the talk of Melbourne Park as well as an online hit. The Cypriot’s spectacular display of fury in breaking four rackets in quick succession during his second-round defeat by Stanislas Wawrinka on Margaret Court Arena is now a viral hit with more than 200,000 hits and counting on YouTube.

Down two sets and a break, Baghdatis sat in his chair at the changeover and smashed his racket seven times until it was almost unrecognizable. He then calmly gave the mangled racket to a ballboy, plucked a new one out of his bag and cracked that as well. The next two, he did not even bother taking out of the plastic wrapping.

In all, the meltdown lasted less than a minute and earned him a $1,250 fine on Thursday.

Meanwhile ref Nalby - Harman has this (http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/sport/tennis/article3290473.ece)to say.

With several of the game’s leading umpires withdrawing their services from a second grand-slam tournament in succession, the Australian Open was always going to be vulnerable to the kind of controversy that devoured the sport again yesterday.

David Nalbandian may not be everyone’s favourite player, but he was grievously wronged deep into the fifth set of another marathon involving that master of endurance, John Isner.

Kader Nouni, the French umpire known more for his gruff voice than his talent at judging whether a ball is in or out, refused to allow the Argentinian a Hawk-Eye challenge on a break point at 8-8 when he overruled a first serve from Isner — average speed 198km/h (123mph) — that had been called out.

Nalbandian said that, with all the noise, he did not hear the overrule and Nouni’s decision not to refer to the technology was absurd. “It is ridiculous playing a grand-slam with these type of umpires,” Nalbandian said.

The rules state that a player may only challenge “in a timely fashion” and there are many instances when an offended player will look up and down, check with his coach, ponder for a few moments and then ask for a challenge, which an umpire will allow.

I didn't know that a lot of the Umpire's were 'withdrawing their services' ...

I think it was talked about at USO - they don't get paid enough. And of course if you pay peanuts, you get monkeys. So no wonder there has been some questionable umpiring at AO.
I was a bit preoccupied around the time of the USO so missed a lot of that.
Bit more of an explanation here (http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/sport/tennis/article3290473.ece) - short extract below:

Would the outcome have been different had the match been handled by one of the world’s acknowledged finer umpires? Maybe, maybe not. But the continuing disputes between the International Tennis Federation, whose officials take precedence at the grand-slam tournaments, and the ATP, whose umpires are tour regulars, need to be resolved as a matter of the utmost urgency.

At the US Open last September, more than 30 leading officials did not participate in a dispute over pay and conditions. In Melbourne, leading ATP umpires such as Mohamed Lahyani, Lars Graff, Cédric Mourier and Steve Ullrich have declined to work at the tournament — for a number of reasons. A large number of men’s matches on the first three days have been umpired by women, which rarely occurs on the tour proper. The best championships in the world, surely, demand the best umpires.

Linda
20-01-2012, 22:49
Nalbandian just tweeted that his fine is not for throwing water at the umpire but the doping test control man in the locker room, he says he was just washing his hands and then this man accused him of throwing water at him. He says he suffered injustice both on and off court that day.

(Copied from another forum, I didn't see the tweet myself)

Ah, found the tweets now:

Niego rotundamente haber arrojado agua a un auxiliar de la ATP luego del partido que disputé frente a Isner.

Durante el control antidoping mientras me encontraba lavándome las manos el médico a cargo increÃ*blemente me acusó de arrojarle agua.

De consumarse esta multa, se estarÃ*an llevando a cabo dos injusticias, una dentro y otra fuera de la cancha. Voy a apelar la sanción.

There have been some very questionable umpiring decisions IMO. Nalby was very badly done by, as was Dolly today. Tomic should have owned up. OK he's young but he's old enough to know right from wrong. The point would have been replayed and honour would have been satisfied - as it is, it left a very nasty taste in the mouth. I like tomic's style but can't help feeling we have another Fed in the making there - hope I'm wrong.

I'm quite sure that Tomic is another Fed - all the things I've read about his antics are exactly the same as I've read about Fed at the same age. When Tomic is no.1 I shall give up watching tennis (hopefully both Rafa and Andy, true gentlemen both of them, will have retired by then).

Tomic very different from Federer when Federer was that age. Federer used be bad tempered and smash rackets, swearing, etc.

I agree Tomic should owed up what he did, just saw YouTube video, doesn't look too good for him really.

I quite like watching Tomic

So that's why I'm starting to like watching Tomic - and Dolly too for that matter - because they're from a different mold to the rest, as was Andy. Neither of them are ball bashers and, as Katie posted earlier, I didn't want either guy to lose today and I could have watched another 5 sets of what they were serving up. It was interesting tennis and for an inveterate fan it was good fun!

I agree I too enjoy watching him play - the match up between him and Dolly was a tennis fan's dream today. I just don't take to the guy as a personality - see my comment below.

I didn't know that a lot of the Umpire's were 'withdrawing their services' ...

I didn't know either so I won't be seeing my favie Mo Leyahni here then :crying:

Yes and didn't Tomic say he'd taken a med time out tactically in an earlier round, or did I dream it? If so, not good even if he was joking.

Must say, I agree. Ryan Harrison is another cocky so and so. And I can see both of them vying for number 1 and 2 in a few years' time. Barf.

I dunno, I thought Tomic came across fairly well in the interview after the match. I quite enjoyed his interaction with the crowd, especially when they booed Federer :)

We have to remember he's still pretty young, so he won't necessarily always make the right choices. I'm happy so far to give him the benefit of the doubt - he could still turn out to be one of the good guys :)

But he's had major run-ins - already - with the Australian tennis authorities and Hewitt as well. Huge ego.

yes, just like Fed had when young. Two of a kind.

I think you are being very hard on Tomic Linda, i watched the youtube cilp, so what, i've seen loads of players put their hand up or pause during a rally because they think the ball has gone out! and CARRY ON when the line judge doesn't call.................so why is it so different with Tomic??

Yes, it was, up to a point - but I still think a bit of leeway should be given. I accept RL's points about run-ins with authorities and so on - can't really comment on those as clearly I've seen less of him that you guys have....

However, mention was made of Hewitt - I remember when I first watched Lleyton I couldn't stand him - when he was very young he was brash, arrogant and totally lacking in respect for other players - but as far as I'm concerned he changed. He grew up, basically. For many years he's been one of my favourite players, but I still remember how he came across in his teens, and it reminds me to allow a bit of time before deciding what I think of young players.

In fact, the same is true in reverse :) I also remember watching Federer when he was still fairly young - I particularly remember an interview, when he was maybe 20, with Sue Barker in a BBC mobile studio (ie van) where I thought Federer came across as modest, respectful and rather shy. Oh how people can change :big grin:

One of the Sky presenters dared to say that he thought Federer had made one or two rather arrogant comments of late - Rusedski's reply was. 'He's Federer - he can get away with it - he always does the right thing and he gives a lot to charity! So that's all right then - just make sure you give to charity and you can do and say whatever you like!

What on earth? That is the most rubbish I hace ever heard! Another reason I admire Rusedski less and less!

Colin Fleming's mixed doubles partner kirilenko just retired from her singles match so not sure what will happen. New partner or not? Wish he could pluck out Laura Robson as partner for a birthday present

Colin's partner is Liezel Huber. Danny's partner is Kirilenko.

Yup, my confuzzled brain just figured that out as I read the tweet wrong... moved the correct tweet to the doubles corner. Either a walk-over or replacement for Danny :shamed:

Either way I would be very happy if his opponent won as it would surely be the easier opponent!
Kuku was serving for the match at 5-4 and Monfils broke back! Is it going to be one of those.....
