Tbh though I like Monfils not too disappointed he is out as Gael and Jo back to back could well have been tough. All credit to Kukushkin for finally coming through though loks like Le Mon really did falter. Hope Hewitt can make a match of this with Raonic, could well be up for the challenge!

Thing about Hewitt is he's got more experience in the big moments and he's quicker - depsite his age and surgeries.

What on earth? That is the most rubbish I hace ever heard! Another reason I admire Rusedski less and less!

I agree, that stupid comment. I never supported him when he was playing and he does say little things about Tim Henman that wasn't nice or respectful and Tim always been respectful to him apart from one time when Tim got annoyed at him.

Last I saw Milos had dropped serve and went from *3-4, *3-5, they must have traded holds and then Rusty took the last couple of points for 7'5.

Well, this'll keep Melbourne Park alive for another hour at least!!!
Good job they put the ladies on first for the evening match.

Raonic could still come back if Rusty runs out of steam...

He did just that; Rusty serving at 3-1 up in the 4th set.

As for tomorrow - here's the RLA line-up (from the BBC live commentary):

On Rod Laver we've got third seed Victoria Azarenka up against Iveta Benesova first up in the fourth round of the women's draw; to follow, Spain's 18th seed Feliciano Lopez has second seed Rafael Nadal to deal with; before defending champion Kim Clijsters does battle with fifth seed Li Na.

In the evening session, home favourite Bernard Tomic plays world number three Roger Federer before women's top seed Caroline Wozniacki plays 13td seed Jelena Jankovic.

Our power went off half way through Andy's second set and didn't come back on until just about the end of Hewitt's match. Sod's Law - having sat up most of the night watching pretty one-sided contests, I missed the best matches of the day! Well done to Andy though - what I saw was great and it sounds as though he got better and better. Really pleased for Hewitt too - would love to see him beat Djoko - not likely I know but miracles do happen sometimes, don't they?

It's that "useless stat" moment....
Looking at the men's last 16, what stands out is:
How good the top eight seeds are (seven of them through)
How bad the 9-16 seeds were (only del Potro (11) and Almagro (10) through. In fact, if the seven of them and del Potro reach the QF, you could argue that is the real top eight anyway!
And....given the top four are drawn against seeds 13-16, looks like they all got cold feet and ran away! As did the top 32 seeds who should in turn have won through. Rafa is the only one of the top four actually playing a seed in the next round! (Feli ranked 18).

There is no play on Hisense after Tuesday so unless they put Andy on an outside court(which they could do!) he will be playing Qtr, semi, and final (fingers crossed) on Rod Laver. Hope he comes in to practice on there before the match as he has been practising at Kooylong most of the time.

I saw a bit of Del Potro's match this morning - he's looking really good! :) Hopefully it'll be a good match between him and Federer.

Federer looked excellent today, but good to see Tomic reach the fourth round. He's definitely got a lot of good potential in his game so it'll be interesting to see how he does this year.

JAMES4578
22-01-2012, 11:24
Certainly hope Del Potro can take it to Fed, the Tomic encounter was a bit disappointing though not totally unexpected. Indeed neither Fed or Rafa wee tested too much today and looking like a Fedal semi will take place! In the women's event a good win for Kim Clijsters as she beat Li Na 6-4 in the 3rd, having saved 4 mps in the 2nd set breaker. She had a nasty tumble early in the match but was ok.

Once again my enjoyment of the Tomic match was spoilt by the sycophantic slobbering of the commentators over Federer and then one of them at the beginning of the Jankovic match had the nerve to say "we are supposed to be neutral" Please let us have some decent commentators for Andy's next match

I kind of hope so.

Only just got around to watching the Tomic/Dolly incident as well and Tomic so was challenging and then so did deny it. He may only be young but it doesn't bode well for things to come. Just hope that what goes around comes around for both Tomic and Berdy.

Just watched his booing-in-the-background interview. I think he was quite shook-up by that. Don't think he will every do that again.
Miscalculation in his part which could haunt him for ever. Great comment on Youtube btw saying how in one match Sharapova really whacked Serena but they shook hands at the end of the match.... and if you have to look to Serena for oncourt behaviour, you should seriously reconsider what you have done....

No way would the ball hitting him on the arm knock him off his feet like that. He should be a footballer with those diving skills.

Yeah, it wayyyyy over the top. Footballer players will be proud of him for that dive!

RoastLamb

Wow! Still can't believe Berdbrain's reaction to Nico's shot. All the ESPN commies were on Nico's side saying it's not like he was standing at the net about to smash the ball at him - he was running for crying out loud. The crowd's reaction was pretty awesome. I guess come tomorrow night we all know whose side the crowd will be on when Rafa and Berdy come out. Won't be pretty. Still, he should be used to it by now.

What a match between Li Na and Kimmie. I really thought Kim was going to lose but she fought back despite being slightly injured in her ankle and down 4 match points. She is a true champion that one! But I feel so bad for Li Na.

And I'm glad Federer gave Tomic a tennis clinic. The droppers were inspired. But now I'd like him to lose to Potty. ;)

And I'm glad Federer gave Tomic a tennis clinic. The droppers were inspired. But now I'd like him to lose to Potty. ;)Bit of me would like that, but the other 99% wants Fed to get to the final so he can be beaten by Andy after dispatching the world no 1 on the way and shut his smug gobness up once and for all!

RoastLamb
22-01-2012, 20:17
I hear you, Rondun, but I don't want Fed anywhere near the final but I did FTM him to get there. And I have a horrible feeling Berdbrain will beat Rafa.

rondun
22-01-2012, 20:30
Hedge betting - I'm sure you'll be happy to forego the FTM points!

I just couldn't cope when, in a few year's time Roger has retired and is commentating for the BBC at Wimbledon (or Sky or channel 5 or whoever will have bought the rights when the BBC lose it) and they ask him what they think about Andy winning the title and he says, "you know, he's very good but he never beat me in a Grand Slam final". (I'm already saving my loose change in a piggy bank to replace the TV which I will inevitably put my foot through when that happens.)

Certainly don't want Berdy to beat Rafa, but Rafa hasn't really been looking himself this week

Hmmm...was planning to catch an hour or two sleep before Andy's match, but having just looked at the schedule again, and realised the match before will be Ivanovic v Kvitova, I've decided to stay up - given that Kvitova has had one or two dodgy moments and Ivanovich seems to be coming back into form, that could be quite an interesting match. Not sure who I would want to win, as I like both, but could be worth watching...
