Bright sunny day after overnight rain.....but the wind, she is a-blowing!!!
We had very strong winds here yesterday - almost as strong as last Thursday. An elderly lady in the village went to the bank with £300 in her hand to pay a bill and - horror or horrors - the wind blew it out of her hand. Thankfully, the wind was blowing off the sea so it didn't land in the water - we managed to salvage some of it but, sadly, not nearly all. Our hope is that if villagers find banknotes in their gardens they will know where it came from!

Sadly the council don't grit the farm road ... which is where the ice is ... they barely bother to grit the other roads but don't get me started on that
It has been very very very cold here today :cold: :cold: minus 7 this morning .... has risen to the dizzy heights of zero which allowed a dusting of snow to fall  but it's just the icing sugar covering so nothing to worry about meantime. Of course we're going to pick our Christmas tree tomorrow so that'll be an open invitation for the snow to start - last 2 years we've picked it in a blizzard :rolling:

Definitely getting a taxi to the bus station tomorrow. I haven't got any Christmas decorations this year. Very mild, to the point that no coat is needed if it were not for the occasional rain.
Nightmare - youngest two kids got here without any bother for Christmas but were due to go back today - unfortunately, gale force winds so no ferries and no planes. Power cut for 3 hours tonight. All ferries on amber alert for tomorrow - youngest daughter due to be moving house in Cambridge on Friday so she's not a happy bunny - please pray for calm to be restored tomorrow so that she gets off the island - I don't think my blood pressure could stand it if she doesn't!!!!!!! Son is not so bothered - he either gets back to work or he doesn't - much the preferred attitude!

Alis - hope the winds die down so that your family get off the island. High winds and rain again today but slept through most of it!! Quietened down somewhat now.
We've just had our power supply restored after four dark, cold days - thanks to the very hard working engineers draughted in from Northern Ireland. They've been using a helicopter to see where the power lines were down - so we put the flags out when we saw it circling over our house this afternoon! Thankfully, after 97 mph winds, we are some of the few on the island with no structural damage. Roofs have been blown off (including our village hall roof that had been there for 200 years), windows blown in, sheds and trampolines blown through windows, cars damaged by falling slates and masonry and Bruichladdich and Bowmore distilleries lost their famous pagoda roofs. Nobody injured though which is a great relief! Our neighbours on Jura are still without power - fingers crossed they manage to connect them tomorrow. Looking forward to peace for a couple of days before the next front moves in!

now at least she is where she needs to be if when the ferry runs
How come the ferry isn't running? Wind? Snow?

I LOVE THIS COMMENT FROM THE ONLINE SUN.
"So we can't complain because it gets colder in other countries???.
For instance, Estonians/Russian/Canadians go to the Sahara region on a 40c day and say it's too hot.
How would they react if a desert dweller told them to stop complaining as it normally reaches temps of up to 60c?
Doesn't matter who we are or where we come from, If we aren't used to something, we aren't used to it AND we are entitled to say so!!"

What's really weird right now is that it's like daylight outside.
Our external lights have gone off but the amount of light from the street lamps is being reflected by the snow into the cloudy night and it's lighting everything up.
Oh, and my Freesat has gone off so no TV for me!!!
Well, OK I can watch on TVcatchup I guess.

Well, to be fair I did know about light and snow and I think it makes it all look even more magical ...
Noticed it most in Switzerland - I remember watching snowploughs working at night.
They looked like ants against the huge white mountain slopes.
I like snowy weather.

Wow - I didn't realise Sally was 119 :big grin:
Of course we knew that - duh! For some reason, though, seems even more so tonight - two streetlights are out, no moon, and hardly any lights on in houses round about - ok, snow reflects light, but what light?!
I guess the magic means nothing to some people ;)
maybe your magical lights came about as the pixie flakes fell late on a Saturday, and the evil grime monster had very little time to cover the pixie flakes with its pollution blanket ;)

Snow overnight and very icy conditions this morning. School run was interesting.
Last night's little bit of snow soon turned to rain, so no snow here. But I had to go to Crawley for a meeting this morning, and most places seem to have had some. Around Handcross there was about 3" of snow on the ground.
