The day has started sunny so the washing is out to dry 'cos it's so windy it should be done in about 30mins if it hasn't blown away by then!

Hope everyone in Scotland has their waterproofs at the ready?
From the BBC (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-19905357)this morning:

Drivers warned of torrential rain
Drivers are being warned to take extra care with torrential downpours forecast on Thursday and Friday. The Met Office has issued an 'amber' (Be Prepared) warning for Friday in the north east of Scotland, including Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray.

There is the potential for almost a month's average rainfall in these areas over a 24 to 48-hour period, with about 8cm (3in) possible locally. The rain will affect most of the country on Thursday.

It is likely to be heaviest across Dumfries & Galloway, Argyll & Bute, Stirling, Perthshire and the southern Highlands, with the potential for localised flooding and travel disruption. A 'yellow' alert is also currently in place for Friday for Orkney, east Highlands, Tayside, Fife, Strathclyde, Edinburgh and parts of the Lothians.

"Persistent and heavy rain will move slowly eastwards across Scotland during Thursday becoming slow-moving across north east Scotland on Friday. This rain may then persist in the north east for a good part of Saturday." He added: "At the moment the Met office have indicated that the heaviest rainfall will be across Aberdeenshire however other neighbouring areas including Moray, Caithness and Sutherland, Dundee and Angus and parts of Easter Ross could also be at an increased risk of flooding. "Therefore we are currently expecting the worst of any flooding impact to be focused in the Aberdeenshire area later on Friday and into Saturday.

Yes, we had sheet ice everywhere this morning here where we are in Leeds/Bradford. My daughter stepped onto our back steps at 8 a.m and went flying, landing on her back! We abandoned the idea of her going for the school bus (she'd have missed it anyway) and I decided to go and get some grit for our steps and slope in the drive. Even though I was very careful, I went down with a bang and badly bashed my knee then I couldn't get up and had to crawl to the back door. How embarrassing :shamed:. Husband managed to get the grit without falling and I was able to drive my daughter to school eventually. It's raining heavily now.

It's virtually stopped snowing now - I expect it will soon all be gone. Dantie finally ventured outside (she wouldn't go out earlier, in fact she wouldn't even go near the door, but after the man came to deliver the wardrobe doors she obviously realised that it's quite safe to go out in), hopped all around the back garden and brought a load of snow back in with her.

I just walked to the local Post Office, half mile round trip, and the A40 (a main road that sometimes has to take M40 traffic if there are accidents) isn't gritted. It's mostly slush on the road but icy underneath so cars are sliding a bit when they brake. Those that don't leave enough room to brake have skidded into the back of others. On a side road (thankfully a wide junction) and I saw one guy take a right turn too fast and his car rotated 180degrees to face back the way he'd come!!!

It was clear here when I first woke at 6.30 but, after a couple more hours kip, by 8.30 there was very fine snow falling which was sticking nicely on the frozen ground. It's been snowing steadily ever since - about an inch has fallen so far. Might venture out later but it's probably safer indoors 'cos it isn't going away in a hurry!

BBC Weather said snow flurries were expected for much of the UK throughout Sunday.

Up to 8cm (3in) is forecast for south-east and eastern England spreading to parts of north-eastern England later.

Today has been interesting to say the least. Stephen ploughed the road in front of me to get me off to work this morning but it snowed off and on till mid afternoon. I picked up my neighbour who works with me and took her to work, brought her home again and Stephen took me to job 2 cos their wee car was parked at the top of the drive (which is up a steep slope) and there was no space for me to park. He picked me up again and our road is still a bonny mess .... but the car gets up and down ok. However, it's been snowing off an on all evening - Stephen's already been out once to clear the dish so he could keep watching the tv .... I'm not getting up to watch Andy cos if there's no tv picture I'm not going out in the dark in my pjs to try and sweep the dish!

There's a belt of snow moving up the SouthWest of England and Wales - we're on the top edge of it and just getting some wet snow. I think they thought rain would be likely further S/East which is where you are. Everything is clearing off the roads and pavements but side roads are still very thick with compacted snow.

A slow thaw starting here, temp up to 1C and will be rising more at the weekend. Shook all the frozen snow of my car cover this morning. i have bought a portable garage to put up on my block paving when the snow clears. Probably be unpopular with the neighbours but can't cope with my car out in the open, have had a garage for too long. It has ben custom made so that it doesn't take up too much room.

What a nightmare of a day I've had .... set off to the end of the road this morning to take Minnie to the school bus only to get completely stuck in a snowdrift - Mr HFW came to rescue me but didn't bring the tow rope () so longer wait ensued, before I was pulled out. Meanwhile, Minnie had walked to the end of the road only to see her bus taking off up the road without her ..... she had to come back up again to get shelter. Fortunately our neighbours appeared as we were heading to the end of the road again (successfully this time) and as they work in Huntly they took her to school!!!

Lots of drifts to contend with on the roads - getting home at lunchtime was interesting to say the least - the side road was also badly affected by drifts so when I set off to take bunny to his weekend lodgings I used the neighbour's road which was clear but slippery. Picked Minnie up and headed home, thought I'd come the back way as it was bound to be ok .... oh ok then, A96 was white in places and when I got to my turnoff, the side road wasn't just white, it was several inches deep  .... right, rethink, ok, head onwards then. Had to take the side road again but was managing fine till the last wee bit when round the corner I come to find Mr HFW rescuing our neighbour, who's wife landed in ARI last night after suffering a heart attack! She was in the car too. I then got stuck where he was stuck, but was able to reverse back down and have a better run at it and made it through .... to find a Tesco van sitting at the top of the road - apparently Mr HFW pulled it out first to find the neighbour had gone back down to the next house down so he went and rang the bell to find them there, and helped them to get home - he had to pull them all the way up to their house though!

We're meant to be heading to Perth tonight as Minnie is playing in the Scottish Concert Bands festival there tomorrow ..... I just hope we and the rest of the band make it!

Am completely fed up of this horrible weather :grrr:

There is no mains gas on the island but thankfully we have a gas hob that runs off bottled gas so we do have a means of cooking. Our friends on the Mull of Kintyre have just had their power restored after eight days - eight days is a long time to be without light and heat and a means of cooking. Surely now it's time for the energy companies to invest in putting the power lines underground - I won't hold my breath though!

Although, unbelievably, a local reservoir ran out of water in the past week and a whole load of homes had no water!

It's :snowing: .... :faint:

I thought it had turned a bit chilly today, despite being a lovely sunny day, but I've just read that they've had snow in the West Country!

First day to getting sitting in the garden in shorts! Now just in from a walk, temperature has dropped, sea breeze (hah) is back and had to wear a fleece and a bodywarmer! Haven't warmed up yet.

I'm not keen on the heat in this country at night with no air con, I have a bad shoulder and had to take some string pain meds the other day and that combined with the heat made me faint at work which was quite embarrassing

Muggy here again today. No idea what's happened to the rain they've been promising. Wouldn't mind some now, especially as it's generally been forecast for overnight which would a) not spoil the day and b) bring the temperature down and enable some much needed sleep!

I'm rather hoping it won't rain, as I bought a huge pot of preservative stuff at the weekend and am intending to start treating my fences & shed tomorrow (it will be nice if it's not too hot though).

A few spots of rain this morning and evidence of probably some rain overnight although I didn't hear it even with the windows open.

Big thunderstorm here yesterday morning which cooled things down ever so slightly for a while but it's back to hot, hot, hot today. I love the sunshine but it's been too hot for me. Early 20's would be better but mustn't complain, it's better than all the rain last year! Being pale skinned I can't look at the sun without burning so have avoided being out in it too much.

No rain today (between London and Oxford) but there's quite a breeze and the cloud cover has meant it's been 2 or 3 degrees cooler which is most welcome.

SG - if only I were retired, that's how I'd be dressed every day too.

Early this morning we had a little "mizzle" and it was cooler, but by this afternoon it was back to sunny and too hot.

Blissfully cool here this evening. Has anyone noticed how ungrateful plants are? You water them lovingly and they survive but give them a rain shower and they look like they've had a million dollars - no appreciation for all our hard work at all :grrr:

I've noticed that in my garden and also over the park, there are loads of flies hovering around the grass. Is this caused by the hot weather? I've just googled the problem to see if there are any answers and was bemused by this one:

Every time i buy a kilo of grass them white flies are there ,I think it's the dealers ripping us off man.
