Saw it on catchup. IMHO Heather would have won that and will win matches like that very soon - I think the residual tiredness from her mono is still there and she is going to have to be patient and be prepared to play well at times in matches but still lose them until she is back to her real self. But some of her shot making against a higher ranking player is a good omen for the future.

But... let's allow her the time she needs and no especial pressure during Wimbledon.

I hope Heather has good experiences from now until the end of the year. I just saw a new WTA tour ad/video and Laura was on both. She clearly is on the map. With Heather's illness and change of coach, a lot of hard work to recover and get back to the top fifty (any maybe down before up i the recovery from illness) and Laura already on another level in terms of profile and likely seeding at slams, she may find it tough going and I just hope she is lucky in health, on court and in her life!

What is interesting is how Heather had basically repeated some of Nick's comments in a previous BBC article - which is not necessarily positive.

Heather on court now. Has lost first set 4-6 to Alize Cornet. (The single break point in the match so far).
Looking at the stats of the first set Heather won 7 points receiving to 11 by Alize in five services each.
Unfortunately she lost 4-6 4-6 just three BPs in the whole match, all to Cornet and she took two of them Cornet.
Pity she lost but both players seemed to serve very well and a very close match of small margins so positives to take from it.

And now her doubles should be on court as the other matches on that court have finished! (After suitable rest....)

Doubles started. Townsend by far the youngest (17) and looking a bit frail at the moment 1-1 and she is serving. Would be good to try and get an early break.

I fell asleep at 1-4 in the 3rd set but I agree with your last paragraph. Heather is clearly not back to the fitness, or rather level of stamina, that she had before mono struck and that's a shame because she really went for it in the first set, had a top 30 player on the run and was clearly after a 2 sets win if possible.

I suspect she'll need until the start of 2014 to back to her best in terms of matchplay and fitness but that means almost a year not reaching the potential she was showing earlier this year and that hurts her rankings.

I love watching her play so I hope she does regain her mojo in 2014 - and she's still only 21 so loads of time to get to the top!

Just to update. Heather in Korea and lost her first round match against the eternal K. Date-Krumm (now 42) 3-6 6-3 6-4. Another close one.
In doubles, playing with Dominguez Lino and won first round against Olaru and Savchuk 7/5 5/7 10-5. Now playing the number 3 seeds Aoyama and Moulton-Levy (Ranked 35 and 53 in doubles).
Currently 4-4 in the first.

The part of the match I saw there were something like 4 consecutive breaks of serve. If only she could get one more free point per game when serving. It always seems to be a struggle to hold against the bigger players and although she is good at breaking serve, that only works up to a point.

I'm same as u, I think we only have the 2 channels, their red button only ever seems to be videos. Mostly they have been showing the match I want (lol it's only day 2) but is a bit frustrating when the match we want isn't on either channel. It's like the BbC Wimbledon in the days before red button and online. Think Eurosport is standard with all levels of virgin as I always have it even though I don't always have sky sports.

Just finished watching a recording of the deciding set. Amazing set for 6-0, so close, so many games went to deuces. Heather fought well to hold serve in the opening game and the 4th game was massive, amazing, difficult to describe, Stosur had 5 game points which would have made it 3-1 and who knows with Heather what would have happened then. There was also a wrong line call and the point was replayed when Heather thought she should have been awarded it because Stosur played a missing shot she thought before the out call but it was tight on the tv replay. Well done Heather a fantastic fighting performance in that final set and wow..a couple of great topspin lobs as well

Certainly great Heather got the win over Sam, she really kept in together in the decider and even though games close kept Stosur under :clap::clap::clap:pressure. Couldn't say I was really expecting too much , though Sam can be vulnerable in Melbourne.

Great win for Heather! Watched some of it, mostly second set. Liked what I saw even though Hev was a break down! Could hardly believe the final set score (which I didn't see.)...a bagel!! So pleased for her!
